Why not? I mean, if you are going to comment against a suggestion, at least provide insight as to why.

One easy answer, as others have stated, is because everything can be acquired for free with gold traded for gems, allowing players to play absolutely free (minus the purchase of the original disc) if they so chose. While your way demands they pay at least a monthly fee.

Honestly, in my experience, nothing was easier then thief (I have had all professions to 80 since last New Years). But it is honestly a matter of opinion as to what is easy and what is not.

I personally feel that in equivalent gear, there is a build that puts all professions on par damage wise.

Having never played anything other then thief though, you will find the mechanics of other professions tough to adapt to at first, because thief is so different.

The other point to keep in mind, is remember as you are leveling a profession, it will always feel weak, because you are used to playing an 80 with 70 trait points and ful exotic/ascended gear. When you are playing a low level with limited trait points and gear, it is that reason and generally nothing to do with the professions, that gives the awkward feel.

No one said they didn"t. I was suggesting someone was leaving that out in thier mentioning of how it should work.

And personnaly, I find the F5 a bad idea.

Care to explain why? I have trouble fathoming any logical reason why a button that would lock turrets onto a target when it is in range, while attack the closest target when the marked one is out of range and no new in range target has been marked, as a bad idea.

An elite kit just wouldn’t make sense.

Works a the Charr racial elite and is a good skill, so I have to disagree with you. As well, in essence it works as an elementalist elite, because that is all that Conjure Fiery Greatsword actually is.

As well, when it comes to functionality, that is all the morter is. It changes all of your skills as a kit does, except that its skills suck and it immobilizes you.

A) I liked the skills in beta, and fell in love with the giant powder keg that is “Big Ole Bomb”.

B) The combination of a pistol and a shield

C) The fact that it seemed so ignored by the other beta testers made me want to come out and kick there tail with the profession they ignored or demed under powered.

D) At the time I chose the profession, I looooooooved gadgets, particularly slick shoes and person battering ram (not withstanding the ridiculously long CD they had back then.)

E) The tool kit. when I entered the water and saw box of nails turned into “Box of Piranha’s” and thought to myself, "now thats a cool name for a skill, and a cool skill effect.

Forceful Explosives Worth It?

Personally I love shrapnel in bomb builds. It gives condition damage value to bomb auto attack. And if it gets cleansed, I will apply another one very soon . A profession can have all 3 utilities with a cleanse on them, and I will still get 500-700 damage between cool downs for them to remove it, and that is under optimal condition removal situations for them.

I am arguing from a different perspective though. Mine is not a choice of either/or, as I run a 30/30/0/0/10 build. Using forceful explosives, shrapnel, and short fuse for my bombs.

The problem with using EG to remove conditions is that it will only ever remove one from you every 20s, and that is very limited self condition removal.

Always been that way. It simply depends on the nature of the CC.

For example, if a necro fears an enemy player or mob toward an engineer, and the engineer uses personal battering ram to launch the player/mob, then of course the fear becomes irrelevant at that point.

similarly if a necro fears a player/mob then a warrior uses the shout “fear me”, then to the best of my knowledge the fears stack in duration.

I am suggesting your missing something. If there is not player you have damage in the range of the turret, no player you have targeted in range, shall we just use general proximity next?

Necro, you do realize that the wiki is player fed. There for it is riddled with inaccuracies, and that a dev has confirmed more then once that that exact wiki page is completely inaccurate. As well, they verified that the aggro formula varies from mob to mob.

In another thread I suggested that they add a function to F5 so that it would allow us to use as a “set turret target” similar to how F1 works for rangers. Seem reasonable?

As a back up to that, I would suggest that turrets use proximity if the player you set them too goes out of range. given general AI issues, I think its best to keep it simple as possible.

My idea for this was using the aggro generation commonly utilized by enemies and simply applying it to turrets.

Do we know that this wasn’t what they were using before that everyone disliked? I do not recall ever seeing a dev explain how turrets targeted before, so I don’t know.

I am sorry, I was under the impression this was a thread discussing turret targeting, was I mistaken? If you dislike my post, feel free to report them to a moderator, otherwise, if I wish to ask someone their solution to the topic of a thread, then I will. If you dislike that, cry me a river.

Now as I was saying, as far as your suggestion, what about when players routinely do not target anyone because they are using grenade AoE reticules, AoE circles for elixirs, have no target because they are using bombs?

1a) Letting party members control another players utility skills is an all around bad idea.
1b) heading in the right direction with this one, but what do the turrets do when scrolling targets with “tab” or when targeting someone out of a turrets range so that they are not sitting idle?

That seems to me like a very logical manner to handle the targeting AI, and was what was “demanded” since release. So I do not see the issue with it, as it is what so many asked for.

the most massive improvement ist not using the flamethrower and/or turrets in pve.
and yeah, it might be used for sd, but sd isn’t actually the top of the food chain, either.

If your not capable of discussing a build with in the specific perimeters the OP blatantly requested, then please go make a FT damage comparison thread elsewhere and stop trying to highjack others threads please.

2k is the damage that autoattack on granades or bombs does (without any cooldown). but it seems that you are not looking for the “absolute numerical maximum” possible, so i think that build is “fine” except for healing tower, which is just too good not to use.

And your realize that a players can drop 2 to 3 bombs in the channel duration of one Flame jet??

He ask for comments and improvements for his build, not an elitist rant about damage. As well your way off base on your turret comment, as rifle turret is known as a staple of a SD build, you your tangent bashing turrets is irrelevant.

As far as the build goes, I am not a fan of SD with FT because of the TB skill and the issues with SD when your TB skill has no actual target. Otherwise, it is certainly a playable build if you ask me.

Its been documented and replied to in the “bug” section of the forums that there is an issue with the system not registering then you have hit 25% of your health pool. It an all around bug that is effecting many traits and not just this one. They say they are working on a fix.

I do agree. With a condition duration build the bleeds stack very well, and the weakness negating a large portion of their damage, and they generally do not even realize it.

OMG. I did not know this…and I’ve played since release. Granted, in my defense, I’ve only played my ele sporadically and he’s just level 25, but still

/my powers of observation are amazing.

The same goes for the engineer. Even using just swapping to the med kit counts as using a heal skill. Its the sole reason all of the “on heal” bonuses from traits and sigils have ICD. but swapping in and out of kits for them counts as weapons swapping as well.

I suggest taking both professions to the mists and fight all of the different professions in the back quarter. Spend time fighting there for a while and use many different builds. Make a day of it if you need, but take your time and make, at least a, a partially informed decision.

If I remember correctly (and I might not), in the beta version of GW2 the elixir traits did actually affect the elixir gun skills, and they were all marked as elixirs.

Pretty obvious, its the Elixir Gun Tool belt skill, Healing Mist.

Actually, this would be the healing turret tool belt skill. They both make those water jets, but healing mist from the elixir gun doesn’t make the character take that pose, whereas regenerating mist from the healing turret does.

I run P/S and bombs with a 30/30/0/010 build. I feel anyone suggesting you do not use bombs in this case is giving very bad advice. 99% of the time, thieves are simply like flies or mosquito’s to me. they are as annoying as all get out, but don’t really hurt me. The standard d/p and bow or d/d and bow thief will never stay at range. they will always approach (nearly 100% of the time) stealth. then use steal to close. I very very rarely see a skilled thief that is not predictable.

You often can see them nearing. If you do, and you see them invise, simply count to two, then use shield 5. do a screen 180, as they are generally always behind you, intending to back stab. throw your shield. This combo doesn’t do much damage, but I love to do the triple stun action here just to troll the thief. They deserve it. Then I use static shock for a blind, poison dart volley, rocket kick, and then shield 4. By this point the thief has hit me maybe twice. While I have put 6s of confusion, 10s of burn, 20s of poison, and 5-8 stacks of bleeds. so your doing between 1500 to 2000 damage a sec, just in burns, bleeds, and poison. They tend to try to disengage by this point.

Most re-engage after healing. Some of your skills will still be on CD. At this point once they come in and get that first hit, I like to go bomb #4 for pulsing blinds, bomb #5 for the now stacking mobilization, which does does 4 pulses of 2s immobilize to tack to 6s-8s + the same in cripple, then concussion bomb for the 10s confusion, then fir bomb for 4 pulses of 4s burn. the bombs all have a pulse on impact, then a pulse every second for 3 seconds.

Either of these two cycles will generally do the trick. I was in a border lands last night, working between keeping one of the south bloodlust nodes held and the south central supply camp. I had the same thief follow me and attack me 16 times in a row. I was in mumble laughing about it, because I was kicking his but, he would get to 25% health, cleanse, and run away. 60s later He would try to sneak up on me again. after the first 15, I decided by 16 that he was going to die this time. so I didn’t allow him to disengage the last time and killed him, he stopped coming back after that.

Personally, when I use my main bomb build, I like at minimum, a 50% condition duration.

I like this build because I can maintain 800-1200 constant bleed damage up, I have poisons damage and heal debuff up 100% of the time, burn up 100% of the time, 10 or so stacks of vulnerability up 100% of the time, confusion up 100% of the time, and can keep weakness up all the time.

With the traits “II” “Shrapnel” the bomb auto attack keeps several hundred points of bleeds damage up on top of the solid direct damage .

What are you talking about?

Thief is king mobility and deserved.
Warrior comes second if he builds for it.
Proper Ele player and ranger can keep up with warriors.
Roaming guardian is very mobile aswel.

So that leaves us with engineer, necro and mesmer.
-Engineer: can kite you for days, all the damage you put on him he’ll outheal. Give them more mobility and they’ll be OP.
-Necro: good one can face tank 2-3 players and often kill them aswel depending on their skill level. Dam panic button (F1)
-Mesmer: so many invulv, evades, stealth, clones and blinks. They are mobile as well, very mobile even. Just not in a straight line, only in fights.

So as far as I can see, the classes that ain’t mobile have their own strong assets. Not every class is the same, that is why there are different classes to play. Another thing, mesmer, engineer and necro all have pulls. This counters mobility a bit.

A a player who has had all professions to 80 for 8+ months now, I am truely interested as to how you draw some of these conclusions, because some of them make me thing you have never actually experienced some of the professions.

Ummm, no it absolutely does not. Hammer warrior in WvW are the current meta, but they are absolutely NOT the most efficient way to play. It has a lot more to do with what people are doing and feel is “IN” and not whats mathematically or factually more efficient.

When are Arenanet going to upgrade to better servers? When are Arenanet going to fix the skill lags in WvW?

When are you going to update your PC to fix skill lag? When are you going to update your internet to fix your skill lag? I ask, because Its just as reasonable for us to “assume” your using a second rate PC and second rate internet as it is for you to “assume” that about their servers. Also, your ISP is generally going to be 10X more likely to be your issue then server lag ever will be.

I think most of us transfers from gw1 resent the living story because we think “hey they could bypass this stuff and be working on an expansion” and though I do like most of the living story, none of it compares to visiting my old stomping grounds in Cantha or Elona. There is so much potential there it makes me salivate,

I just despise when posters presume to speak for me. I hardly doubt you know 1% of the players who came from GW1, much less do posters have the right to suggest what “most” of us want. I see this happening all over the forums, and its really starting to get old. I like the living story(well a lot of it anyway), and I feel all of this talk about expansions is foolish. They have already explained that I do not need to purchase an expansion disc for them to add a new race, class, or land mass.

Confusion with runes of perplexity

That doesn’t mean they won’t be worth using. simply because they stated “they will be looking at” those runes.

I would suggest Med kit, Elixir Gun, Bomb Kit, Tool Kit. BK and TK to maximize access to conditions. EG tool belt will give you the stun breaker. MK #4 and EG#5 will be your condition removal, although somewhat limited.

BoB, Magnet, Magnetic inversion, Throw Shield, and Supply Crate, will all stack confusion on interrupt, and Pry Bar, Concussion Bomb, and Static Shot, will be your direct appliers of confusion.

Since you mention survivability, I would certainly go with “Dire” gear.
