I don’t think you can actually gift gems. You can gift items from the store.

What you could do if you want to send someone gems is buy a gem card and just give them the code.

again with the really hurtful titles. You know calling someone’s entire fightingstyle “useless” kind of clashes with your attempts to be a gentlemen.
and curtoky…no one cares about what the staff is by direct comparison, focus on the staff alone. there are plenty of reasons to go staff, would you write a 20 minute freewrite in alphabetic order? You don’t get to call an entire weapon ‘useless’ no weapon is useless from what I have seen, its just more specialized. As much as we bash Anet, they got a lot of stuff right, balancing is one of them. It’s not perfect but then what is?)

Ok, up until this point I didn’t think you were a troll. “No one cares what the staff is by direct comparison” was the give away. Well played up to that point though, you got me spending a lot of time on this thread thinking that you were genuine.

I thought that was a much better give away.

Well ok gyler, try this.
Roll a single die to define your race, and class, then sue the same die to define where you go at each level ‘range’(going to more than one area if you need to train crafting or something.) And just…play the game again. who says you need something new? I’ve played tales of symphonia 8 times, and I have a million times more in me.

and for god sake people STOP USING THE WORD EFFICIENT. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous, none of you seem to know what this word means. By throwing you attack to ‘kill something in 10 minutes with no attrition’, you are WASTING potential, it only depends on what you see is spent. Berserker(yes I will start spelling that correctly!) gear and builds are great for time, not in terms of life, risk, or stress.
Finally, not everything is in terms of results, if you think the duelist style(high armor/crit for single strike fighting) is the same as berserker based on results, you are out of your mind.

Read it.

What if zerk was really nerfed in PvE?

That is all good, but is no excuse to insult others given that a)speedrun players are playing how THEY want (hypocrisy) and b)some perhaps “pseudo” speedrun players actually take for granted that all Dungeon runs “must” be speedruns, and also do not read the LFG ads and join non-speedrun groups to later belittle other players in the group and complain. Some people feel “superior” by sharing the mentality of the speedclear meta, without necessarily meeting the skill level, and they feel it justifies insulting other players as “bads” (clearly, they are just bullies/jerks/insecure).

Welcome to the interwebz. Some people are just jerks whether they are full zerk speed runners or full cleric’s play how you want players. That being said, most of the threads created on the forums are the resultant of people joining the wrong groups because they don’t want to read or do the small amount of work it requires to play with like minded individuals. Just to be clear though, I don’t think it’s right that people treat each other poorly, but I can understand how people get mad and do it when trying to start a group with “zerk only”, just to have 40 people join who didn’t spend 2 seconds reading a lfg description.

Why I feel it’s bad for the game to keep fostering the idea that Berserker’s is the one and only “ideal gear” for PvE is simply because it fosters the attitude of “enlightened players” (those who play GW2 “right”) vs “the bads” (people that don’t necessarily embrace all aspects of meta play for whatever reason-and often, it isn’t just “lack of skill”.) By having one “right” way to play, you are also saying the others are wrong by not playing how you want, and many people do believe that other players are actually “bad” just because they refuse to use whatever would be considered the most optimal gear at the time. Thus, while it’s OK that Berserker’s remains the most powerful direct damage gear, it isn’t good that all other choices are so trounced upon in comparison (which is never to say that Cleric’s should be as powerful as Berserker’s, which is a preposterous idea but one that I have heard before used as a bad strawman argument-“so you are saying that Cleric’s should clear a Dungeon as fast as a Berserker’s!”… no one ever said that.) Edited to add… such argument was just stated after my post.

Someone else addressed this post above, but what I will say is: If we all know zerker is the best for efficiency, why hinder yourself with gear that isn’t as good if you are, in fact, truly capable of dodging well? It only hinders the group when you have the same skills/utilities available to you but are pumping out far less damage.

Yes, Cleric’s/Soldier’s/Rabid’s/etc. are effective in what they do, but in the end, they are not that much highly desirable even for players that love and still use the gear. I use all sorts of gear on my characters, from Berserker’s to Dire (before I am belittled, I know how to dodge, thank you very much) and see the advantages and cons of each-ultimately direct damage is so favored in the game that one uses non-“zerk” gear despite its cons because of its limited advantages (or perhaps for RP reasons), not because we know that it’s the “best” gear for that character.

The whole point of the argument against nerfing berserker is it won’t change anything. The next “best” gear will just be what does the most damage. The people asking for a zerk nerf simply don’t understand the game. If they did, they would realize what many of the people in this thread are trying to say.

I will point out that they are doing something similar to what you want:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-March-18-2014/first#post3845281:
“Trading
Rumors tell of a merchant interested in items from major events in Tyria’s recent history, including Blade Shards. Players are encouraged to hold on to these items if they are interested in trading with her when she appears.”
I would guess it buys other account-bound things as well, such as Fortune Scraps or Gauntlet Tickets? Maybe code fragments and heirlooms? Basically any LS non-standard currency.

^This is for just the stuff for when that crazy Sylvari was around, I meaning stuff you could not put in guild banks, could not sell to BLTC or sell the regular way, but just wipe the Soul/Account-bound stat for just a short bit, maybe just have it as a limited salvage kit that works on anything that can be broken down…including Soul/Account-bound stuff…

Its still a terrible idea because it would bring alot of markets out of equilibrium.

John Smith claimed many months ago that we would have market disequlibrium and the resultant was ascended crafting that through many markets out of whack for long periods of time. So, what’s your point here?

To be clear, I don’t agree with the OP. Delete your garbage items rather than recoding the TP, but your argument about equilibrium doesn’t work here.

If you ask me, do play how you want, but do not join-or belittle-those who don’t wish you to play how you want. Same goes for the other guys-play your speedclear runs, but don’t be mad at people or call them “bads” for choosing to play whatever they like-it’s their gaming experience, not yours, so just don’t play with them (no need for silly epithets like “playhowyouwants”, etc.)

People get called bads and playhowyouwants because they constantly join zerk groups without zerk gear and try to alter the gaming experiences of others who want to do full zerk runs (yes, that is a generalization, but it’s often true). This is the biggest problem with the game and NOT the zerk meta. These threads or threads like it pop up all the time because people don’t group up with people with the same mindset. People don’t read lfg descriptions and end up in parties that they don’t fit the requirements. My solution to the zerk “problem”: improve reading comprehension and group with like minded individuals. It’s really that SIMPLE.

Other people have said it many times in this thread (especially Bread), but all classes/gear have the ability to control, support and damage. Most people just don’t understand how to use it and/or when to use it so they claim we don’t have it. Control maybe not as much because of the poorly implemented and lazyily designed mechanic that is Defiant, but control is still there if used properly.

This game has it’s obvious flaws and balance issues, but it always seems to me that people who complain about zerkers or wanting their builds to be more viable is they just want to be accepted into any run at any time. Instead of worrying about “being more viable”, when all builds are viable in PVE already, you should spend more time finding people who run the same builds and want to play how you want to play. I suppose that would require work on your end, but why do that when you can beg Anet to change the game to fit your ideals of how it should be?

Honestly, if someone can’t or refuses to follow simple directions in the LFG, then I question the competency of that person. I don’t care for whole “zerker only”, “heavies only”, “6k+ AP” stuff either, but if I don’t fit the requirements I don’t join.

That is why about 99% of the threads created here are started. People either don’t read for what ever reason or they do and don’t care about the lfg description. If you are too stupid/lazy to decide if the party description is something that fits you, you are likely too stupid to understand why you were kicked in the first place. (By “you”, I don’t mean you, I mean people in general)

tl;dr: 99% of these threads would go away if people read the lfg description and/or had the common courtesy to not join groups that they don’t meet the requirements for.

It’s funny that you were “so mad that you didn’t think clearly”, but yet you had the foresight and patience to wait until the the boss was at 5% health. Your excuse is worse than your behavior and you should be banned. Doesn’t matter if the guy was running cleric’s and you asked for zerk. Either gear check in the beginning and kick or don’t do it at all. YOU are the problem.

^My feelings exactly. It seems hardly fair for someone to put in the work only to be kicked at the end.

I disagree. From the moment he decided to join the group without fitting the required criteria, he was in for a kick. The only reason that keeps people like that in a group is that they often don’t get spotted right away.
I don’t kick people when we’re far into a run, but that’s because I’m too nice.
I don’t like it when they get away with it, however.

My point was, he gear checked him half way through the run. The kick should have occurred then and there. Plus what I quoted as his reason didn’t make any sense.
Waiting till the end to kick after a mid-dungeon gear check is just as much of a kitten thing to do as is joining a group that you don’t meet the requirements for.

I am not excusing the cleric’s behavior because that type of player is the root problem of many of the arguments the zerk vs. non-zerk groups often argue about, but two wrongs don’t make a right.

What they should do is make the Vision Crystals tradeable on the TP just like all the other refined ascended mats. Yes, I know why it isn’t, because they want you to explore other areas of the game.

But, the reality is, people don’t want to do that (and shouldn’t have to). The game is billed as a play how you want game and some people play the game for only one aspect of it(wvw, pvp). Why force people to do things they don’t want to obtain certain gear? It will only serve to burn people out on the game having to farm in areas they dislike and that will only result in people logging in less.

Making them tradable on the TP is a terrible idea. I don’t see people’s obsession with this idea. They would literally sell for a few copper each. Is that really any better than just deleting them?

People just need to experiment now. Stop going and using the same cookie cutter builds posted on the internet.

If you feel you have a build which is better than the current meta build for whatever content you are doing, feel free to post evidence outlining exactly why.

Perhaps you have, after all metas do evolve, but forgive me if I’m not instantly convinced.

Btw, not everyone using a meta build is blindly following them without a shred of understanding as to why said build is optimal and why they should use it.

Already thinking outside the box!!

Well perhaps not really, the mention of “healing the zerg” somewhat points to wvw zerging or at the very least open world pve zerging and not instanced pve, i.e. somewhere that a) zerk is already not the meta and b) clerics is hardly unknown.

I’m gonna have to agree with Fenrir here. You claim to be a scientist who is married to a mathematician. Shouldn’t be too hard, between the two of you, to theorycraft your build against full zerk to show all of us how great it is.

What you are showing has nothing to do with the game but everything to do with the mentality of the players. You can’t change that.

People asking for zerker won’t change with the patch. Might as well resolve that in your head now.

@OP: Not sure what you are even talking about here. That screen shot means nothing. No one there was asking for a warrior. It just happened to be that the groups had lots of warriors in them. You never mentioned what class you actually play, but if it’s engi, ranger or necro, you are probably never going to break through the stigma of those classes being bad. Sure, the people who know how to play the classes and the top level guilds will always want them because they are good classes when played well, but the reality is most PUG’s don’t play them well and people don’t want to deal with that every day.

Its mind boggling that people think UIDs will keep or recuperate their value they have now.

Of course the value will drop, but if a player gets 100 UID’s that were duplicates of dyes that were under 5 silver lets say that player is going to get 100 UID’s that will sell for far more than 5 silver. Unless UID’s drop that much, but I don’t see that being the case. Will be interesting to see where the price levels out considering all the changes.

New Release Schedule?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cranked.3812

cranked.3812

The release pattern for the finale of Living Story: Season One’s went like this:

  • 6 weeks off to prepare for 4 updates.
  • 4 updates occurring every two weeks for an 8 week period.
  • One “filler” update with some story but not much gameplay.
  • 4 weeks off to prepare for a “feature only” patch.

Together these updates lasted 16 weeks or 4 months. Obviously ArenaNet is taking some time off to ensure their updates are of a higher quality.
My observation is this: if ArenaNet releases 1 story arch and a batch of updated features every 4 months, how is that different from a standard MMO release schedule where one new patch releases every 4 months (except that GW2’s patches come in pieces and GW2 doesn’t have expansions)?

I’m just curious what other people’s opinions are about this. Does anyone else think this will be the new release schedule? /discuss

It isn’t their new release schedule. It’s just how it worked out at the end of season 1. I don’t see them doing season 2 any different than updates every two weeks even though it is a schedule they obviously have a hard time doing properly.

Also, I LOL’d pretty hard at the part in bold. Your a funny person.

In fairness to him, people do the arah event all the time and everyone can guest any time, so it shouldn’t be hard to get these traits. It’s not like LS events where if you don’t get there the first week and the zerg is gone, you won’t be able to do the events.

In UW quite often if you want to have something done, you’ll have to do it yourself. Quite often now I end up doing Melandru with 2 other people. Shatterer and Jormag sometimes now fails. And I don’t think that guesting should be a way to correct the problem.

I get what you are saying, but that is the drawback of low pop servers. Guesting is easy and will get you what you want if your server fails. You should just be thankful there is a solution.

Unlocking Traits

Not really a barrier. Still acquirable by money but just expensive enough that people will actually want to do content for them. Never said PvE or PvP notice I said content. There can be a PvP unlock and PvE unlock for each book. My point is just it was a form of progression in GW1 that kept people busy for years it may be something that can provide the same level of interest here as well if done right.

tl:dr 3 ways to unlock ,cash should be the hardest to encourage playing the game (PvP/PvE)

The barrier of price shouldn’t be high. Either that or you should be able to do all the trait unlocks solo. As it is right now some of them are for example “do the Arah unlock event”, well for about 2 weeks all servers will be doing everything. Smaller servers will fail. After a certain period of time drop off will happen (because older players won’t need to unlock those traits again anymore) and people (especially in low pop servers) will be stuck traitless.

In fairness to him, people do the arah event all the time and everyone can guest any time, so it shouldn’t be hard to get these traits. It’s not like LS events where if you don’t get there the first week and the zerg is gone, you won’t be able to do the events.

And dueling is one of those important things. Which a large majority want.

Really? So, your telling me a majority of the player base wants dueling? Please enlighten me with your evidence.

I can’t say one way or the other because I have no evidence as well, but my suspicions are that the majority would rather see QoL, TP, wvw, pvp, dungeon updates long before dueling.

The playerbase wants dueling because there is a large number of threads about them and there are multiple videos about dueling.

Combined? maybe.

Separate- Each and everyone of those would lose. Unless competing against mounts, perhap.

It’s funny your accusing me of not having any evidence and that I am right because I say so, but the reality is neither one of us really knows how many people want or would benefit from dueling being added to the game.

I think you really want dueling so bad that you are blinded by what goes on and is requested day to day in the forums.

Please don’t listen to this man. All of us have subjective opinions. I personally love dueling and I find it a much needed feature. And no, custom arenas do not work unless you’re able to waste lots of cash monthly to keep it open.
It is of course not for me to decide where the time should be put, but I find statements such as “don’t waste your time” to be insulting, because the person is using this just because he/she personally dislikes that particular feature.

You are absolutely right. I wouldn’t use the feature, but that’s not the reason I say to not waste time on it right now.

This game is riddled with bugs still, there are 100’s of QoL things that could be added and dungeons haven’t been really touched in a year. That’s a few reasons why this shouldn’t be added before any of that stuff. I know some people will want this feature, I get that, but the other stuff I mentioned will be used by a FAR greater percentage of the player base.

A far greater percentage of the player base will use Dueling than small QoL that no one cares. Who cares about stack warriors dungeon 2? A small minority does maybe.

Well, if we go by the forums, I would say a large majority of people would use QoL stuff as that’s what 90% of the threads that are created are about.

Not sure what you mean by “stack warrior dungeon 2”.

Never turn karma into gold. Since the nerf it’s a heck of a lot harder to come by. I know it isn’t a currency that everyone needs or uses, but there are much better ways to get linen than to use karma. You never know when/if you will need it and you will be very sad when you have to farm for it and it takes forever.

Please don’t waste the time on this devs. I know some people want this, but there are so many things in the game that actually need fixing/attention long before something else is added that, I believe, a small percentage of people want. We already have pvp areas that are great for fighting each other.

That’s a few reasons why this shouldn’t be added before any of that stuff. I know some people will want this feature, I get that, but the other stuff I mentioned will be used by a FAR greater percentage of the player base.

Do you have the numbers somewhere? Because when I last checked both WvW and Spvp players actually are quite upset that their parts of the game get updated far less.

Though I wouldn’t mind a new dungeon as well.

Do you even read what I wrote? I said those are SOME of the things that could be done before dueling is added.

And you are making my point for me by bringing that other stuff up anyway, so not sure what to make of your posts.

You basically want it to cost a lot so other people are forced into doing the content? I don’t understand your reasoning behind that. Let people obtain them any way they desire, not the way you think they should be acquired. Because any way you try to spin it, that is what you are asking for here.

If you want to do it through boss killing, no one is stopping you. I thought this was a “play how you want” game?

It is a “PLAY how you want” game, meaning play the game, your basically suggesting pay to win rather then do the content or PLAY which is what i’m suggesting.

Changing the cost structure isn’t going to make it any more or less pay to win.

I got a better idea.
Let’s make it so that the first fractal you get is always dredge.

Hey now, let’s not get carried away! :P

@OP: I get what you are saying, but if you want a certain fractal, take the 2 minutes it takes and roll for it. It’s not like you have to sit there for hours doing it.

I don’t know that I would do a TP CDI. IF you do, you will end up heavily moderating it because it will quickly devolve into arguments about inflation/manipulation type stuff.

Ahh, another one of these threads. Fun stuff.

The reason that anet decided to make these items acquirable in such different areas is so people go out and play other areas of the game that they aren’t necessarily comfortable doing. It would be nice to be able to trade one for the other, but right now it’s working as intended.

EDIT: And I now see this thread was slightly necro’d.

So if everything is a matter of catering to the majority, why are the people who have access to the game metrics making changes? Changes that add up to a fairly clear pattern of intent.

Their making changes to the DPS meta because of a minority of QQers who just refuse to make their own groups because they want to tag along with the zerkers.

That doesn’t equate to them creating some kind of trinity system. There might be a decent amount of players that want some form of trinity, but you better believe if they do change course now, the game will have a mass exodus.

The amazing thing is people can’t even stop from making 10 threads about the same thing while they are all on page one of the forums, but somehow threads like this get necro’d from months ago. I’ll never understand.

It’s an achievement. There should be kittenes and easy ones. This is a harder achievement. We can’t nerf everything in the game because a couple people can’t do something. Ask a guildie who plays mes to help you out or throw up a lfg asking for help in the main section.

Holy Trinity and Compromise

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Why not let the builds be trinity? Nobody wants trinity! Nobody wants to be waiting in LFG asking for a half spec healer type compromise build any more than they want to be waiting for a full trinity healer. That is not better than the status quo and never will be better than the status quo. If nobody needs a compromise healer, like now, then nobody will ask for one and the role is redundant anyway. You can go into the dungeon as a healer if you like right now. There’s nothing to stop you if you want to play with like minded people.

If a group needs more healing, CC, condition cures, finishers, mobility, etc then they can already change utilities and weapons to do that. Trinity is dead. RIP.

Really Stooper? No one wants it? I’d like something closer to the trinity. Why do you think there’s at least one pro-trinity post a week? It’s just incredibly naive and childish to think you speak for everyone. Lot’s of people like the trinity, not just a small percentage.

Then those “lot’s of people” should play another game designed around the trinity. GW was never advertised as that game and should never turn into that. Don’t come to this game and try to change the entire concept of it because a few people want the trinity. You have EVERY OTHER MMO to play if that’s what you want.

1. I don’t see how pvp in pve areas will make the game any better. We already have plenty of pvp areas for players to go and battle each other. What pve needs is more dungeons and better LS content.

2. Harder content would be nice and welcomed by some, including me. BUT, the reality is most players don’t want harder content. Look what happens on the forums when harder content is added.
