This could well be true.

But, there’s not really any argument over what is true, or not.

Truth just is.

The argument is over whether it should be true, or not.

In other words, should it be the case that meleeing is better than ranged, for example?

…and yes, I get why it was made that way – as a lazy attempt to make it worthwhile to melee, by giving it more damage.

But, that doesn’t mean it’s right (from a good design/fulfilling gameplay POV) that you can’t use ranged weaps, if you prefer; unless you make/join a special “do what you like” type group.

What are you talking about? You should really re-read what you write before you post.

The advantages/disadvantages to melee vs ranged are very well balanced in this game. Do you really think you should be able to stand at 1500 range and pew pew things to death with the same amount of damage as a player standing at an enemies feet? How is that balanced or even fun for that matter?

So the truth comes out in your last sentence. You basically want to play with any build you want and still join any group that you want? Sounds pretty kitten selfish to me. The real problem in this game is players such as your self who just utterly refuse to group with like-minded people. There are plenty of people who want to play in cleric’s and range the enemies. Play with those people and everyone will be happy.

why no ranged auto attack chains?

There is already a very good reason to stay ranged: To avoid the big hits. Probably the reason so many people already do it. There has to be some trade off between ranging and when in melee and this is one of those things.

The problem is the same you would have with fractals. A rare drop from dungeons wouldn’t be considered anything prestigious. It would just be another RNG drop item that has an infinitesimally small drop rate that people would just complain about getting. Maha is right, more new content is needed.

Why do we need this? Bad players will just stand there, get downed immediately and afk while dead the rest of the fight. Pretty sure we have enough of that already. I get you want more challenge but this isn’t a great solution to achieve that.

Top questionable decision Anet have made.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cranked.3812

cranked.3812

I would say their top questionable decision was moving away from the trinity. Not that I am for or against the trinity just it was a fairly large change, that has noticeably changed the main fundamentals of playing the game.

Since there is no real way to determine if it was truly successful or not, because this game is neither the impossible second coming of WoW nor a complete failure.

You are for a trinity, just admit it. If you weren’t, then you wouldn’t even bring it up.

The lack of trinity is very successful. The problem is some players do not understand how to play without a trinity so they whine and complain about zerker gear when they don’t even fully understand the game or the fact that there is no problem.

Because they are not being given to you as a currency. Think about them like tokens to purchase armor. You either use them for there intended purpose or you delete them. Also, as has been mentioned, there are some sinks to use them.

People really need to get over just deleting this stuff. Either use it for it’s intended purpose or scrap it. It really is that simple.

BLC manipulation cont.

Is there anything stopping Anet from buying items on the BMT to artificially make the item more rare and expensive?

Not sure about BLC’s, but there are plenty of other areas where it would benefit their bank account to do such things. There is no law against it, and they’ve never told the user base they wouldn’t do it, so.. yeah.

I am pretty sure that JS stated that Anet, as a company, doesnt participate in the trading market.

Well, I guess if John said so, it must be true, because no employee of a company has ever lied on the forums.

(Not saying he is lying, but his statement does not necessarily make it true)

@everyone else about the stupid QD champ train: There is a huge difference between someone killing a champ out of order on a map where the same champs spawn 5 minutes later and will be killed 100’s of times than there is when killing a champ that is basically part of the FE process and has been since the dawn of the game and won’t respawn until long after everyone is gone from the map. Stop making that silly comparison.

The comparison was made about the entitlement, not the kinds of champs or respawn rates. Besides, I’d actually argue that if a champ was killed in the QD train, it was more annoying because it would often upset the whole train. People ended up splitting up and the train would fall apart.

But either way, people are totally allowed to kill whatever creature they want to, with or without a zerg behind them. It all goes pretty well until bickering arises and A-net has to nerf things to improve the sense of community and the contents of map chat…

OK i see what you are saying about the entitled aspect of it. But, this is exactly why unwritten rules are created in society. Everyone knows it, everyone follows it and everyone is happy.

But it’s not really a part of FE, just something on the way out that one can do if someone has a key, and it’s not on cooldown.

Technically it’s not, but finding the key and only being able to charge it by killing FE kind of makes it part of FE, hence the unwritten rule being created, more than likely, long before any of these guys started playing the game.

@Unwritten rule
In other words, as with all “unwritten rules”, absolutely nobody is beholden to abide, as there is no force to bind them and they are in the right no matter what.

I don’t think you get what unwritten rule really means. I know you understand, but you don’t “get it”.

Stating the obvious fact that it’s not a real enforceable rule by some law creating and maintaining entity means nothing. Unwritten rules are rules created by the majority to benefit the majority and to make it so everyone knows what’s going on. It’s a societal agreement that maintains order when there is no governing body.

What they’re doing is hardly griefing. They’re playing the game as it was intended. Hell, OP would be well within their rights to just open it for the guild, do the event and move on. They’re not beholden to the unwashed masses that abuse them for doing the event. When I’m doing exploration and come across champs, I announce to the map that any lowbie interested in getting the help of a lvl 80 char in taking down a champ should come to my tag. I considerately tag up and wait 5min.

I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think they are “playing the game as intended.” The key is meant to be found during pre-events, charged up and then add the final charge by killing FE to gain access to the steam ogre. Logically, I believe anet intended for players to do things in that order. Of course, they didn’t lock it so that it can’t be done “out of order”, but it wouldn’t be the first time a game programmer overlooked players doing something out of turn. Would also explain why all other keys in players inventories are deleted upon entering the steam ogre area.

As far as the OP’s actions: He doesn’t deserve verbal abuse for something as stupid as a video game, but he knows what he is doing and knows it bothers other players because for the lifespan of the game (2.5+ years) it has always been done one way. No person with any shred of common sense should be surprised that he is getting angry messages when doing something you know is going to get said response.

On a side note, because it relates here. Most of the problems that people argue about in all facets of society would be solved if people would simply do whats best for the group rather than what’s best for themselves. It’s our biggest societal problem that apparently doesn’t change when people go to the make believe worlds of video games.

While this sounds like a great suggestion, it is not.

You are asking anet to start charging you to play a game mode that was previously completely free to access. I know the OP has continue coins laying around and wants to use them, but getting SAB back for free is the way to do it.

Kind of surprised they don’t bring it back out during lulls in LS. Maybe they were finding people actually liked it more than the actual game and swept it under the rug.

Why do I get the feeling that the naysayers still have not even bothered to read and respond to what the OP actually said?

Do you guys even realize what the OP is suggesting?

The lfg posts of players wanting to gear check will not even be visible to those players that are not willing to succumb to gear checks. Which means anyone who wants to play with any gear can still do say and their game will not even change or look any different than before. After the proposed change, ONLY those players wishing to troll will be kicked from groups.

Seriously people, READ the OP before going on long nonsensical rant posts with the word elitism sprinkled in every 15 words that don’t even address what the OP suggested.

Ironically, this is exactly why some people want this tool added to the game because people simply cannot or will not read or respect what other players requests are.

So they took a chess game out….big deal. Many quests were improved. Overall I feel the NPE is a huge improvement. Not everyone agrees with that but the gate does in fact swing both ways. I have leveled 2 characters to level 80 since that patch and have another to level 45. Its really just not as big a deal as some say

many of the hearts have been massively simplified, in my personal opinion, that’s not an improvement.

Interacting with objects to do things was “too complex”, now we dance with cows instead of feed them and we rub corn better instead of water it.

Might just be me, but if metrics say this is the way to go, then MMO players are getting stupider and stupider

It’s not MMO players per say that are getting stupider, it’s the general population. MMO’s are just catering to that ever growing group of people. It sounds bad, but is there an easier person to get money from than someone who is stupid? No surprise gaming companies are realizing that and reacting appropriately.

They change the daily reward structure so all you have to do is log in and you get the same rewards that you used to have to work at least a little for. Literally, all you have to do is click a few things and you get the same reward as before. You don’t even have to play the game to get the reward anymore. It really is that easy. But, that’s not enough now? What’s the next progression here? Should we get 50 gold each day from just logging in?

We all know it doesn’t matter what you put into the description, people don’t read and join anyway and now with the lack of a party leader system there is no real way to kick people who don’t fit the description.

Make it enforceable by the game and people who run zerk will play with people who run zerk. People who run cleric’s will run with people who play cleric’s and so on. Most complaining about zerk elitist should go away.

will other stats in pve ever rival berserker?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cranked.3812

cranked.3812

We don’t need to fix the zerk meta, we need anet to fix/modify the lfg tool so it forces people to party with the people they actually want to party with. Isn’t that the real problem here? The “elitism” that everyone complains about all the time coupled with the people who lie about wearing zerk to get into zerk parties?

I’m not saying it’s as simple as this, but how about we start with something simple like players can start a lfg and check a box with the gear that people are allowed to join with. And if anyone changes to a gear set that isn’t what was checked at any time there is an announcement in party chat and a vote is called to kick that player.

Then everyone can happily play with ONLY the people who are wearing the gear they enjoy playing with. Problem solved!

And before you all go “we don’t need gear checks”. It’s not a gear check. It’s grouping people with like minded individuals. Isn’t that what everyone REALLY wants?

Charged Lodestone Nightmare

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cranked.3812

cranked.3812

But is that really okay in terms of designing a game that is fun and rewarding to play? Is it really okay to have a drop rate for exotics/lodestones that is minuscule to the point where opening things like champion bags isn’t even rewarding?

The game was never really about going out to farm for items that you need. It is, and always will be, about farming gold and buying what you want on the TP. I’m not saying I like that way to go about it, but it’s the world we live in. Not everything in the game can have a high drop rate. There will always be some things that are in high demand which cause the price to be high.

Call me crazy, but I have a sneaking suspicion that a large amount of the gem sales in GW2 end up being spent on gem to gold conversions in this game(legal gold buying). Thus Anet would have an incentive to make things much harder to get.

No need to call you crazy. Of course anet is setting it up so players are more inclined to spend money on gems to convert to gold. If you owned a business where you needed to pay employees and other costs monthly, would you set up a system where customers wanted to pay you money more often or would you make it so customers were not so inclined to open their wallets?

And if this is indeed the case, is it really okay to sacrifice game quality to make more money? Is it really okay to put profits over good gameplay systems?

Games will never be as good as they once were when gameplay trumped graphics by a mile. But, this is the new generation of gaming where everyone wants pretty graphics, gameplay is second fiddle, they want everything right now and they don’t want to spend time or money to get it. You might as well get used to it because this gaming world is here to stay.

Slight Rant about Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cranked.3812

cranked.3812

So I decided id like to try out the sinister armor but Anet in all their glory decided to make it only obtainble by crafting it which is just really poorly thought out, it feels lazy as if the over a million karma i have sitting collecting dust should just continue to do so why not add in karma vendors with the new armor rather than forcing someone to blow all of their money to craft to 400 then buy the recipes then aquire the mats which drum roll requires even more money.

Your accusing anet of being lazy because they make you craft it? Adding something to a vendor is far more lazy than creating new recipes, new mats and new areas to obtain all this stuff so you can craft it.

Sounds like you are the lazy one here. You just want to be able to log in and use currency you already have so you can get the shiny new items right away with little to no effort.

Before you go on a ridiculous rant next time, maybe you should think about it before posting.

Ever hear of the pot calling the kettle black maybe before you judge and insinuate something you should think logically. My idea of adding it to a vendor had thought behind it thanks it would require the player to accumulate said currency to purchase it similar to dungeon tokens or wvw currency. My stating about the lazy aspect was because it is only these new stats that are required to be crafted to be had. This is lazy as it goes against basically ask other forms of ascertaining gear in the game. So next time your decide you want to judge and accuse someone you should think first.

I don’t need to rethink what I said. Adding something to a vendor is not a well thought out idea. It’s just about as lazy as it gets. This game is already so heavily weighted to just gaining gold (currency) so you can buy whatever you want on the TP. What this game needs is more stuff that you have to go out and get and make yourself and that is what anet is doing with stat sets like this.

And to your other point, celestial can only be crafted as well. So, this isn’t the first stat set that you have to craft on your own.

Lack of content?

DeWolfe — I’m sorry you’re inconvenienced by this situation, but honestly, it’s the best overall. The restrictions aid greatly in account security, just as early chat restrictions reduce in-game advertising of money-selling sites. I sure understand your frustration, but the limits will lift in a relatively short time, and ultimately, the player experience is better for having them in place.

Thanks for understanding.

I don’t really see why it’s for the best.

We pay money to access the game in the first place, why should there be restrictions on what we can do just because the account is young?

Free trial accounts I can understand, but not full paid accounts

Everything in life is relative. You wouldn’t be saying this if YOUR account got hacked and had all the gold sent to the hacker.

It’s a great safety precaution to help prevent this kind of stuff. If you can’t wait a short period of time just to get some silly achievement; well, I don’t know what to say to that.

The fact that charged lodestones are needed for so many recipes and the fact that they have a ridiculously low droprate is really not okay… I agree that it is a nightmare but Anet seems to be okay with ridiculous RNG in this game so I don’t think things will get any better in the near future.

It’s working as intended, or so they say. But, it’s a great gold sink for the game. So, it’s not likely to change anytime soon.

I’m not sure this is a goldsink for the game.

Haha! Duh! You are right other than the 15% that leaves every time one sells which is a decent chunk of change considering the cost of them. I guess the scarcity of them is more of a way to create value among high level mats.
