Wanze is right. YOU have a ridiculous stockpile of mats. Most players do not. Why should anet add or change anything because a few players refuse to just delete the overabundance of mats that they have?

Charged Lodestone Nightmare

The fact that charged lodestones are needed for so many recipes and the fact that they have a ridiculously low droprate is really not okay… I agree that it is a nightmare but Anet seems to be okay with ridiculous RNG in this game so I don’t think things will get any better in the near future.

It’s working as intended, or so they say. But, it’s a great gold sink for the game. So, it’s not likely to change anytime soon.

Slight Rant about Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

cranked.3812

So I decided id like to try out the sinister armor but Anet in all their glory decided to make it only obtainble by crafting it which is just really poorly thought out, it feels lazy as if the over a million karma i have sitting collecting dust should just continue to do so why not add in karma vendors with the new armor rather than forcing someone to blow all of their money to craft to 400 then buy the recipes then aquire the mats which drum roll requires even more money.

Your accusing anet of being lazy because they make you craft it? Adding something to a vendor is far more lazy than creating new recipes, new mats and new areas to obtain all this stuff so you can craft it.

Sounds like you are the lazy one here. You just want to be able to log in and use currency you already have so you can get the shiny new items right away with little to no effort.

Before you go on a ridiculous rant next time, maybe you should think about it before posting.

I think Vayne is right and summed it up pretty nicely. (Did I just write that?)

None of your complaints are really anything to complain about. I mean you complain about grinding to level up crafting? Leveling up crafting is nowhere near what anyone would consider grinding. It sounds like you don’t have a lot of time to play and when you do, you aren’t spending that time efficiently to get what you want so it seems to you like you are grinding. I’d hate to hear what your thoughts on making ascended equipment are.

I don’t understand the complaints… Anet is not made up of 24/7 robots with no lives.

If you were an Anet employee, would you want to be working over the holidays just to push out an extra bit of content? I doubt it.

I mean, those of you who would be bored during the break… why aren’t you thinking about spending time with your friends and families? There is life beyond a single video game. :/

I don’t know where you all are from, but here in America we don’t get tons of time off from work. It’s not like we are all sitting around for 2 weeks spending time with friends and family. I don’t understand this “working over the holidays” argument. It’s not like anyone is asking anet to release content on Christmas day. You release the patch on the 16th, work out the bugs we all know will be there and then enjoy Christmas. Sounds pretty straight forward to me.

Yeah, I don’t want this at all. It defies the very purpose of a dynamic event, which is supposed to be something awesome that you stumble into, making the world feel more alive. Having them advertised over the whole map by the game itself takes away from that.

Well that depends on your perspective. That sounds great for someone who hasn’t played the game much, but for people who have done the same events 10-100+ times it isn’t “something awesome you stumble into” anymore.

Gems/achievements

You don’t get gold for doing achievements now, so why would they make it so you get gems? Sounds like you just want free gems.

You aren’t suppose to do achievements to gain currency. You play the game to do that, get gold and convert to gems.

You should just be happy you can get gems for “free” by using gold.

Deprioritizing Monetization

cranked.3812

I completely agree. One thing that makes me quite uncomfortable is the feeling that everywhere I look I’m being asked for gems, gems and more gems. If you don’t have skill you need money, if you don’t have time you need money, if you want to get a certain skin, you need money. The current approach is excessive and disappointing (In my person opinion) considering the usual MMO approach is: go on an adventure, face a challenge and get rewarded, which is basically being bypassed by anyone with a fat wallet.

I’m not getting your point here. If you don’t have skill or time and you want something, the answer in any other facet of life is to have money.

What it basically boils down to is you either put in the time to grind for what you want or you spend money on it. That is, and always will be, the trade off. Everything in game can be obtained either way. This is not something anet has invented.

They used a token system in dungeons because there are 8 of them or 28 explorable paths. There’s one fractals.

And dungeons are fast enough to run for profit…fractals not so much. People FARM dungeons. Most people don’t farm fractals.

1. I am unofficially vetoing your argument here. I have seen you argue in other threads (threads about lack of content added to the game) that fractals is more than one dungeon because it’s broken into different paths. Now in this case, it’s “only one”? Your argument is therefore invalid.

2. Your second point again tells me the rewards are broken in the game and rather than solve that problem they lather on more RNG.

cranked.3812

If FoTM skins were attainable through a token system, a lot of people would get their skins and never do fractals again. I really believe this is true.

The opposite is also true. With RNG that could take years of daily attempts, I’m simply not going to bother in the first place. There are plenty of other ways ArenaNet could encourage people to play. Forced RNG only leads to burnout.

Then the question becomes which is more effective.

So, what’s your point here Vayne?

You think game designers should create content locked behind RNG that causes player burnout rather than creating content that is rewarded properly so that players want to play it more? Every other dungeon in the game allows you to buy skins with tokens, why not fractals?

I don’t see how burning players out of any aspect of the game is a good idea.

My point is there are no easy answers. That’s my point. Everything seems good on paper. Make champions more rewarding, gave birth to the Queen’s deal champ train, which caused quite a few people problems.

Every change that seems easy and reasonable may very well have other consequences. That’s my point. People who program for a living probably know better, which is why so many “good” suggestions aren’t leapt upon.

I see your point and agree to some extent. Players are often unreasonable and don’t think their suggestions through and, often times, don’t understand when others point out flaws in their suggestions. That is usually when threads devolve into “hater/fanboy” posts.

OTOH, their have been many well thought out and thoroughly discussed suggestions that could easily be implemented like fractal weapon skins. If you offer skins in other dungeons for tokens, but not in fractals, that tells me anet knows the rewards are pathetic and refuse to address the real problem.

Same with champ trains. Instead of allowing the champ trains to run rampant for 6 months, they should have made them killable only once per day per account like world bosses, or something of the sort. I’m sure at the time people had some good suggestions, but instead they just nerfed champ bags and your right back where you started.

I believe the RNG in things like fractal weapon skins, Teq/Wurm and TA AP to be in response to two things.

  1. Posters waxing nostalgic about GW elite instances which contained extremely rare RNG drops, and which they ran ad infinitum to try to get those drops.
  2. The reaction to GW2 dungeon tokens. Within a week or so of launch, some posters complained that it took too long to garner the tokens for a dungeon look. ANet increased the total number of tokens for a run. They also at same point back-loaded the tokens to the end of the dungeon and put in token DR because players were farming the first bosses over and over. Then, within a month or so of launch, there were quite a few people posting that they had gotten their dungeon looks, and had nothing to do.

1. I never played the original GW so I can’t really comment here. All I would say to that is RNG in any game, especially in fractals where it’s been proven that it broke at least one time in the past, is a bad idea. Even if we forget the token idea, they should at least have skin boxes so you can choose the one you want or some way to keep people from getting 10 of the same one.

2. To this I would say, shame on anet for overreacting to a “problem” too quickly. There will always be a small percentage of people who burn through content fast. There is no getting around that, so why change the game for that minority?

And just for the record I have no stake in fractal skins. I’m only using it as one example that another poster brought up.

But a skin is something you would actually get use from considering GW2 endgame is basically dress up wars 2. The harvesting tools and salvage tools are great convenience items.

The node packs, OTOH, are a waste of time and money. Going to the TP and buying 200 scraps at once rather than 5 minutes a day for 2 months to get the same thing is silly. I don’t care if you buy them, but my original point is it’s a fair comparison to make with the amount of gold/gems they cost.

Why do people still keep thinking about these kinds of things as earning/saving money?
They were never supposed to be that. They are simply there for convenience. I for one love having a easy daily gatherer in one (small) place.

I agree for things like the salvage-o-matic because that is a convenience item that keeps bag space clear.

BUT, it’s just as convenient (if not more so) to spend that money on the TP and it costs considerably less so, in this case, I think it’s a pretty fair comparison.

There are plenty of other ways to do that (grow lamps, ascended gear, whatever). Gating one particular stat combo that isn’t even THAT popular was and still is silly.

He is arguing tax agencies are large because of complex rules that aren’t necessary in the first place.

I don’t know why you guys even bother with these “discussions” in the first place. They never come to a reasonable middle ground and everyone always resorts to extremes in their examples.

@Essence Snow: It would be far more complicated to implement what you are asking than I think you are understanding it would be. I also think you dislike TP trading so much you are basically trying to come up with a way to tax those people more without using the argument that we shouldn’t have TP trading. Your argument is basically one of a Democrat. “Tax the rich, give to the poor.” That logic is, was and always will be flawed. The best way for taxation in any facet (whether it’s video games or real life) is for EVERYONE to pay one flat tax percentage. Under that rule, people who make more will be taxed more and vice versa. If anything, the trading post taxation scheme is following that “best” practice.

@Wanze: I don’t know why you bother with these threads other than your love of being a TP trader and not wanting anything to interfere with that, ever. I actually think if someone came up with a great idea to get rid of the excessive amounts of money some players make on the TP, you would still argue against it. (That’s not to say you aren’t right in this topic)

What they should have done was not have buy orders in the first place. That way no one could ever buy and flip an item to make money. Prices would stabilize based on supply, demand and rarity of items just like they do now. You still get what you want, when you want it and no one but the original seller makes any money plus the gold sink is still present.

the only problem I see with the 1c undercut is that people see it as a problem. It’s not a problem; it solves far more problems than it creates. If you don’t want to bother with it, then offer fair prices for things, or better yet: buy them instantly.

Mystic, I agree with you to a point that it’s not a problem. However, people need to stop using this argument about offering a “fair” price for something. If I offer 100 gold and someone overcuts by 1 copper, the offer is still the same for all purposes. It doesn’t suddenly become a fair price. Not only that, but the vast majority of offers on the TP are people trying to flip for profit by constantly overcutting someone’s offer that may be trying to buy the item to actually use, so I can see the frustration from a buyer’s perspective.

The ability to overcut does bring and keep the market into equilibrium. However, the only thing 1 copper increments do is move you to the front of the line to get a buy order filled without actually spending any more money. Having bid increments would at least change things from that perspective.

There is no 1 copper problem. There is a problem of people being stingy. If others are were willing to pay more than you, you don’t deserve the item. Simple as that.

You want the item right now, you gotta offer more.

While I don’t agree with the OP necessarily, this is a terrible argument. Someone willing to pay more? 1 copper more? Most of the time people putting in orders for weapons/armor aren’t even people who want to use the item. If they were truly willing to pay more, they would buy at the lowest sell offer. What you mean to say is they want their item faster without really having to pay more.

I am well aware of the gem store or gem/gold ratio issue. I just don’t see how different it would be compare to keyfarming except it’s more “legit” without the need to delete toon. The only different you can argue keyfarming benefit Anet more because people have to buy a character slot……..If I am not aware of it, I wouldn’t have written a whole paragraph about keeping the time/effort same as current farming method.

You are not getting it, nor are you well aware of the situation.

Key farming was/is a byproduct of leveling your character. Anet never intended people to farm it, they just never took it away. So, arguing that they should balance it around other farming methods is ludicrous on face value.

What you fail to understand is, they would sell WAY less keys in the store if there was a legit way to get skins other than from BLC’s. As it stands right now with key farming, you still risk not getting anything, but if you implement your plan, it’s only a matter of time before you get the skin you want. That would cause less key sales and, therefore, less gem sales = BAD for anet. So, why would they ever do that? You are not offering an incentive for them to do so.

They aren’t even expensive on the TP. You could do one dungeon tour in like 3 hours and have enough for a skin. I don’t see the problem here.
