Have I ruined my pristine fractal relic?

That’s pretty weak. There was no confirmation dialogue or anything indicating I was just about to ruin a unique currency and there was no way of going back.

Fractals were pretty fun and I don’t mind running them again, but still…

Start reading tooltips:

Double-click to convert to 15 Fractal Relics.

And why click “use” if you want to deposit it?

Seriously. This ^^

Any currency that is able to be deposited automatically goes into your wallet already, so why are you trying to double click it? I feel like this is a good example of why anet felt they needed to create the NPE. No one reads anything or understands simple game mechanics like account wallets.

Got to love today’s entitlement society…

While I do agree with this general sentiment, I don’t think it applies here necessarily.

Almost any store will give you the difference in price paid if there is a sale within “x” amount of days of purchasing an item. Not saying anet should do that, but it’s not unheard of.

why do we have to wait days to charge quartz?

in Crafting

Posted by: cranked.3812

cranked.3812

Because they dumped millions and millions of quartz all at once during a festival.

If you old charge quartz easily, with crafting, then many people would have crafted tons of exotic weapons with them. At 24 copper each, quartz is by far the cheapest T6 mat.

This would have tanked the markets for t6 mats, exotic weapons, and precursors.

And the cheap quartz would have been burned quickly too, making it very expensive to craft celestial after a few months.

The way it is now, only people who want celestial craft celestial, so celestial is obtainable and the markets for everything else aren’t affected.

This isn’t 2013 anymore, so stop using that tired excuse to defend the time gating on quartz. Take away the time gating and get rid of the account bound status of charged quartz so it can be sold. If the market is the super-most-awesomest-market-ever-created like all the people around here claim it to be, it will spike and settle in a couple days. Problem solved. Your welcome anet.

Soulbound on Acquire

What items that are currently soalbound on acquire would you like changed to account bound.

Every item that does that.

The only items that should ever be soulbound are items that you equipped at one point. Other than that, the soulbind mechanic is silly and should be changed across the board. I see the point in having account bound stuff, but soulbinding is just awful.

Stop whining and let people farm for crying out loud. The rewards in this game are already nerfed to the ground. Is it so bad to let people farm the two spots in the game that are farmable? The two people who actually want to complete the event could just as easily move to another server instance rather than troll the farmers.

Also, what Joe said ^^. Where is the toxicity in this case other than a couple people yelling to stop attacking?

It is bad enough that players sell the final dungeon and ANet won’t do anything about it. It is like they are encouraging it.

Stop whining about dungeon selling and worry about what you are doing rather than what others are doing. You know you can make a group and complete any dungeon that you want with 4 random strangers or friends right? Don’t whine because the people who are good at the game and can solo paths won’t carry you through dungeon runs.

Metrics are only good when the right things are measured and the right conclusions drawn. Otherwise they just paint the wrong picture.

Word on the street is that Anet management are overly obsessed with their graphite dashboards and the continued misreading of same is why the game continues its march into mediocrity.

If you can do any better, give it a try. Make a game and see how many people you can get to play it. See if you can put enough financing into it to make it financially viable for one year, let-alone the two that GW2 has already existed for. Go ahead. Try it. I’ll wait.

This is the worst argument I ever see to threads like this. You don’t have to be able to poor hundreds of thousands of dollars into a game and/or be able to design one to see how bad or good a game is. All you have to do is play it. Stop acting like people have to be able to create a better game in order to critique the one they are playing.

How good or bad a game is, that’s your opinion as a player. But you bet your sweet kitten there are objective measures of a game’s success as a business that most of us have not the foggiest clue about. Your denial of that fact makes it no less true. So my challenge stands. If you think you and your buddies can design a better game and make a go of it financially, go right ahead.

I’m not arguing against you or for the OP. However, what I said stands. Telling someone to go spend a million dollars and make a better game is a tired and played out old retort that is silly.

On a side note, you are right that I don’t have access to metrics or the ability to decipher them (at least I have never tried), but as a gamer that has been playing for north of 25 years, I know how to evaluate the quality of a game, whether some of the evaluation would be personal opinion or just facts.

Ohoni has a point to some degree. Anet could very easily adjust some drop rates or use other methods as mentioned to curb drastic market shocks like for example the spike in iron ore that occurred during the end of the last LS. I think you are over exaggerating a bit Wanze when you act like they would need to “employ dozens of data analysts” to do this type of work. I would be happy with a 24 hour median transaction price and volume. But for traders the skill comes from divining information where none is given.

While 24 hour volume and transaction price may calm the inflation/no drop rate crowd a bit, it would give the traders a lot more information to find those markets that aren’t being targeted for flipping a heck of a lot easier. And once those markets collapse to under a 15% gap all that will be left is speculation for traders.

I don’t see anything particularly wrong with that. If anything, that would be a good thing as it would normalize prices and then we would stop getting all those “TP is OP” threads every 15 minutes.

This does not bode well for the general health of our society when people can’t even figure out what to do in a video game.

I think you’re looking at it wrong. It doesn’t speak well for the video game if it doesn’t do a good job showing you what to do. Especially when it’s trying to do something different than most of the other video games of the same “type”. It may mean that the difference is too odd, or poorly introduced. It doesn’t have to mean that people are idiots.

I disagree. I made it through the game just fine on my own with some small help from wiki/google and this is my first MMO I have ever played. It’s not that hard to just play the game and follow the green arrows every once in a while that direct you to the next personal story step. Sure, not everyone is me, but the problem does fall on to the players. Maybe it’s not necessarily being stupid, but it’s either that or lack of patience or willingness to take an extra step above and beyond not seeing giant neon lights waving you to the next part.

they never change anything retroactively unless it’s a problem. usually there is a small reason for it: if they change bolts of silk to require 3 scraps instead of 2, that unfairly gives advantage to someone who refined their material early. in the short-term, it causes a bit of havoc. pretty quickly you forget it even happened. IMO, temporary upsets like that are a small price to pay for a fair and sensible game. This is also why I disagree with all time-gated crafting in this game.

Pretty much this ^^ Although, there is a legitimate reason to time gate things in the short term for market stability, but long term it needs to go after “x” amount of time.

Basically it boils down to anet’s knack for making things random and wildly inconsistent across anything they do. It happens all the time and apparently will never change. Maybe they just have a coin they flip to determine these types of things. Would really be the only logical explanation.

A nice little side effect of time gating gap charged quartz is that grow lamps remain profitable to craft weeks after they were introduced because it is impossible to flood the market for them. I am all for little niches like this that allow crafters to make a profit even if they don’t spot it in the first couple of days.

like I said: “after the first ~month”. It depends on the item, but after it reaches equilibrium, there is no point to it. grow lamps; sure, that can be time-gated right now to cause minimal disruption to the economy. But a month or so from now when it’s price is down to 8g (the cost to make it), there is no longer a reason for it.
also, it’s hilarious for the 1 charged quartz per day AND 1 grow lamp per day. like, the “can only get enough materials to make a grow lamp once every 10 days” wasn’t enough, they had to make double sure their time gating stuck.
another also: it defeats half the purpose of time gating to make the thing you’re making be tradable. If you want 20 grow lamps, you can buy 20 grow lamps right now. it being time-gated doesn’t slow down how quickly you get them. The only thing time-gating slows down is how many materials are consumed to make them, ie: market disruption. so once the market is no longer disrupted, there is no reason for them.

Yes, it will probably get close to equilibrium after a couple of months, but in the interim those of us who are crafters and aren’t in a rush to have the newest thing right away get a nice little earner. You also are overlooking the fact that people may have been charging crystals in the interim.

As far as I’m concerned time gating charged quartz and glow lamps works well for crafters and making them tradeable is a concession to those who want to have it now.

However, I do agree that the situation for celestial gear is not entirely satisfactory. I would personally like to see insignias and inscriptions tradeable.

No one is arguing against glow lamps being time gated. There is a reason for that, as you said and I agree.

However, we are talking about quartz here. There was never a reason from day one to time gate making them. As Mystic pointed out, why not just time gate all armor then, like Zerk gear?

If they did away with the LS and focused more on feature updates (ones we actually need), bug fixes and repeatable content, I think they could still make money and keep the gem store.

That would be a cool story, but it doesn’t apply here because celestial stuff isn’t tradable. Maybe if anet would be more consistent instead of pulling things out of a hat to decide how to implement things, stuff like this wouldn’t happen or, at the very least, things would be the same.

I was talking about grow lamps, which is why I mentioned grow lamps and not celestial.

Yep, my bad, didn’t realize that.

My point still stands about celestial. It was time gated for no reason from the get go. They just happen to use it recently for the grow lamps when they could have used something completely different. So, saying it’s gated daily because of grow lamp crafting is disingenuous. It was gated long before that and for NO good reason. It doesn’t fit with the rest of crafting. And to address Wanze’s point of making it so people have to log in daily, I say that isn’t a good reason. Find GOOD ways to make people log in, not chores and inconsistent time gated crafting. They should stay focused on making things consistent, especially with their whole philosophy (especially as of late) to make things “less confusing”.

I mean, seriously, what if people are confused about time gating? /sarcasm

relevant, Colin:

I think that’s a totally fair question, as a veteran user I’d wonder that too – why does making the game better for new users benefit me when I want features that benefit me?

The simple answer is: by ensuring the game foundation is solid for new users, we’ll be in a place after the feature pack where we can do the kind of things that excite both veteran and new users simultaneously, and we’ll be able to retain a much larger percentage of the new or long returning users when they show up. Can’t say anything more than that yet – but that’s the thinking, you don’t need to agree with it, but it’s important to know why the decision was made!

and

Yeah we thought so too. After tens of thousands of usability testers and interviews with players who tried Gw2 and left leading up to China launch both in NA/EU and in China – we learned we were wrong.

Honestly, we were kind of shocked how many systems, downed included a surprising number of players just didn’t understand. For downed, we tried a downed tutorial, building downed into the level 1 tutorial, etc. We found after usability testing with numerous different groups, the best rate of people learning and understanding it came from having it be layered complexity and the solution we went with above. Intuitively that wouldn’t have been my guess either initially, but we found people understood it better this way than all other options we tried.

This same level of testing led to the other changes as well. At the end of the day the biggest take away I’d say is: all of us, especially people who go to a reddit to discuss a game, probably know games (and Gw2) really really well. We have millions of users, and a tiny % of them frequent game forums or reddit. Just because all of us, me included, learned those systems well and thought it was all really easy doesn’t mean we are the norm

I have no time at the moment to post the context/questions/statements, look for yourself: http://www.reddit.com/user/ArenaColin

This is a really interesting post which I think makes real sense.

the tl;dr version from colin: People are way too stupid to figure things out on their own. The only way a large percentage of people can play games is by having large neon signs that tell them or show them exactly what to do.

This does not bode well for the general health of our society when people can’t even figure out what to do in a video game.

The answer, once again, is either group with friends or open the instance yourself and start your own lfg post. Anet doesn’t even need to get involved, you can solve the problem on your own.

No rules or legislation or changing of the game to another kicking format is going to stop people from being kitten’s. This is the internet after all…..
