Why not change “Compounding Celerity” to read:
Increase movement speed by 25%
1 illusion: Increase movement speed by 2% (27%)
2 illusions: Increase movement speed by 3% (30%)
3 illusions: Increase movement speed by 3% (33%)
I like this but would use it in very few of my builds.
I would rather see “Manipulations grant swiftness” attached with Far-Reaching Manipulations.
I main all 8 classes. Rune of Strength, especially coupled with Battle Sigil, and then a special case when coupled with Celestial Amulet, IMO is too strong.
I used to run a power p/d d/p set and it was a lot of fun and it did work. I wouldn’t run it as my main damage set though.
I’ve reported this bugged skin about 5 times starting shortly after the game release.
Still not fixed.. This skin really bugs me!
This is the “seer mask” on a giant fat norn, and it looks ridiculous.
Interesting, I’ve been running a build similar to this but focusing more on phantasms that shatters… so you think shatters is more effective? I’m pretty new to pvp, and I seem to run into other mesmers pretty often, not sure I’d be able to effectively pick the right targets for the shatters. Might waste all of them on a clone…
Well shatter is very effective yes. And you should not be shattering willy nilly all over the place to. For example you don’t wanna be blowing your whole wad on someone with protection(if you run boonstrip you have leeway here but you get the picture).. So a mesmer really is a good person to practice against anyways as it will help you learn to shatter more purposefully.
I don’t even care all that much about the glass panels everywhere – good positioning and paying attention can for the most part negate this.
What I do have a major issue with however, is that bloody ridiculous skyhammer. Unblockable, undodgeable, high damage in an area several times bigger than the actual capture points. That ridiculous hammer needs toning down and everyone but Anet seems to be aware of this.
My issue is more with the falls then the hammer. I think the hammer is fine, its just another objective to control like the treb and can contribute significantly to the map fight. It’s a unique dynamic to this map compared with the others in GW2, even moresoe then the treb.
The reason I hate all the kitten falls is because when I join skyhammer game.. My team is all switched to thieves who spend the whole time trying to troll. Nobody bothers trying to play the map.. It bores me and wastes my time.
I have had good games on the map when I random luck ended up with a team who tried.
How will I be able to play with my friends in hotjoin in this new system?
The same way I do, ‘hey guys server 27 is 3/10’ and we all join server 27.
How will I get my friend to be in the same team as me?
Join teamQ if you are deadset on being on the same team like you are meant to.
I mean tho 1 or 2 friends wouldn’t be hard to get on the same team.. You would just both queue to it..
If you are just spectating, why don’t you just wait for people to try to stack and force switched and leave when someone leaves to force balance? Be dat anti-troll.
I actually do this sometimes, but it rarely helps.. As soon as I make the teams even, they just swap around again.
It’s hotjoin, who cares?
It’s just soloQ, who cares? It’s just teamQ, who cares? It’s just living story, who cares? It’s just wvw, who cares?
Obviously its the people who play those modes who care!
Halp I play d/p teef and I can’t beat mm. Also how do i beat d/d ele? Much thanks.
MM: Pull out your shortbow and range him. If he tries to attack you press #3.
DD Ele- Play ele for a couple months. Lol as you avoid every thing he has. Interrupt ether renewal. Save burst and cc for after he LEAVES water attune.
Well lately I haven’t been feeling well so I’ve been spending quite a bit of time spectating in hotjoin rather then actually queing and playing. I like to see how other people play different classes and things like that.
The major issue I’ve noticed is how so many game I see people trying to stack a team.
As I spectate I see people doing things like:
- Swapping teams after the game starts.
- Leaving the losing team to Spectator to wait for an opportunity to join the winning team once someone else leaves or joins.
- And the most cancerous of all: Those who will not join the outnumbered/losing team and sit there in Spectator spamming the join button of the other.
To make it more clear I’ll illustrate an example of the last bullet point. The match is about to begin with 10+ in spectator, couple people join in the game making it 2(blue)v3(red). using colors just to simplify the example For whatever reason, now none of the others will join. Match starts and goes on 2v3 for quite some time… Someone else enters the server and just clicks join random or w/e. 3v3 right? nope. The spectators were spamming join on the team who had 3 in the 2v3 so now its 4v3 still advantage red.
The process will repeat and then it will be 5v4.. Usually bullet points 1 and/or 2 will also happen during all of this just making it worse and possibly end up in 5v3’s(pretty common). By the time the server becomes 5v5 IF it even does, there is a 100-200+ point gap between the teams.
I always thought it was rage-quitters mostly causing these scenarios, but that hasn’t been the case from my recent experiences watching these matches.
My solution:
- Add a team join queue. Pretty simple.. U click join red and if its already 2v2 then you just get put into a queue. When someone queues into blue, then you both enter the game making it 3v3. * You need to make this queue visible so people can see whats going on.
- If you join into a team you cannot join the opposite team until the match is over.
- If someone leaves an already even match (4v4 for example) and makes it a 4v3 and there are no spectators to replace with. Then I don’t know maybe someone has an idea.
- “Play now” should prioritize finding 2v3 3v4 etc , and automatically assigning that person to the specific team to make the match even.
I had some more ideas that I now forgot once I started typing.. Hopefully you guys have more ideas or counter points to my suggestions.
edit- Adding bullet points as I remember my other ideas lol.
- Reduce the number of servers, there are too many.

You can easily hit 15 stacks of might with bombs or grenades and with some effort even 20-25 stacks. What is again the point? FT still sucks.
The point being that it’s a game, and as such, not everyone is in to running the OMGWTFBBQ SUPER UBER BUILD that people say is best. People can run whatever they want. (Sorry, I wouldn’t have quoted you specifically, but for every FT thread, there is someone like you who makes a completely irrelevant post like this) Some people (like myself) enjoy running the flamethrower. Also, I am lead to assume that you did not look at his posted build because he IS running the Bomb Kit.
Now, to the OP. Looks decent. I would suggest running Rifle. The Rifle 5 skill, Jump Shot, is wonderful in conjunction with the two fire fields you will be running. It can give you the Fire Shield off the Leap Finisher, which burns enemies and grants you might when struck. Pistol/Shield is solid, but if might stacking is your aim, go all out and give the Rifle a shot. If you happen to run a Sigil of Battle in your Rifle, you will gain 3 stacks from swapping from FT to Rifle, then the fire shield, and whatever other finishers those around you may provide. Might everywhere!
Best of luck, OP. Nice to see other FT engis out there making this awesome weapon feasible.
I know right because a weapon that has fire fields, a toolbelt skill that does very nice burn, an aoe low cd blind-though a small radius, and an instant cast cleave knockback on a very low cd is so terrible. Not to mention it does good damage on dps builds.
How many build use Soldier’s. Besides the broken builds everyone calls cancer.
Or your other option is to remove Int sigil’s from the game.
Look I’m not saying it will fix all the problem’s we are having, but it sure would fix big problem with new rune/sigil change’s where some classes can abuse.
I suggest you nerf hambow (or whatever warrior build is annoying you) if it is actually too strong. Strength runes are also a massive suspect, considering you get massive free might uptime +% damage just by having might, completely outclassing every other power rune. But instead you want to nerf literally the LEAST broken part of the problem, and the one that will affect the most non-abusive builds.
I think everyone know’s Str runes are strong atm, but say they nerf the 7% everyone will just change to different might stacking rune, it won’t effect the might stack’s some classes are getting.
I already prefer Hoelbrak over Strength.
Dodge, turn around, press 5 and zoom away, run in circles till it wears off, kitten on the noob mesmer who obviously sucks or he wouldn’t have to moa you.
The only time I ever died due to being moa’d is when I got chain cc’d and bursted by 3 or more ppl at once. In all cases I probably would have died without the moa anyways.
In fact several times, getting moa’d has actually HELPED me escape certain death because of that #5 skill.
Sure let’s Nerf active defenses and keep the passive skillful non-random stuff like healing signet , diamond skin, protection injection, spirits, turrets.
Ever play a kit engi with 30 in tools + energy sigil + vigor trait? Not exactly “active defense”. More like “spam defense”. Or a thief with 15 acro+ perm vigor + energy sigil??
do magic find boosters effect the loot you get opening chests?
i had quite afew MF boosters so i used one and tried and seem to get more yellows than usual but i might have just been lucky.if they do work then we definitely have a reason to hoard chests so we can pop every source of MF we can get before opening them.
Yes as of last patch MF work on chests.
What makes your poll more important then the opinions already expressed in the mega-merged-thread.. This one will suffer the same fate, if not get closed.
I don’t think it is a build problem, the profession feels week and very little (viable) options.
I am rank 52 atm and consider myself to be fairly skilled.
Well, have you tried watching streamers who play with your same/similar build?
there arent many steamers but yeah i watch them but they, like myself are not being very successful with this profession and often switch not other professions wile streaming.
actually that was the “trigger” to make me whant to have a “new main” for sPvP
Necro? It’s the only one I can think of people complaining about not being effective..
edit- I did some snooping to find out you play thief.. Thief is an effective class.. But I wouldn’t run p/d or d/p save those for wvw.
I see you posting a lot in thief forum, especially defending your thief p/d power build.. Now I am not surprised to see this topic.. It’s not the class.
I’m not trying to insult you either.. Maybe thief isn’t just for you.. I would now recommend Warrior since it is a drastic difference from playing a thief.
(edited by dank.3680)
As an ex-WvW only player, my Guardian has always been my least played class by far (out of 6 80’s).. In sPvP I can’t help but play it constantly.
Dank,
Your comp is a bit better then my laptop =p, yeah fraps takes its toll and I usually loose like 20fps+ while using it and you can’t really change the settings. Does your 550ti have NVidia shadowplay support? from what I have heard, there is little to no lag/fps drop using that.
Yam,
Psh, killing kinda-afk mesmers is serious business you know~
I don’t mind litany, it really isn’t that bad, I’d use it most of the time if there was no cast time LIKE EVERY OTHER MEDITATION Hint Hint Anet but I really dislike the tome so I doubt that ones going happen, haha.
And what are u using for editing?
Hmm, what’s your computers specs? with everything around low-ish, how many FPS do you get while running around in WvW? have you tried recording before?
Well I would be running in sPvP since I don’t really wvw anymore.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 3400Mhz
Nvidia GeForce 550 TI, I do have 2 on SLI but as far as I’m aware GW2 doesn’t take advantage of SLI so it’s usually off.
8gb ram
Well with fraps open not running I get around 50 fps. Jumps around though 50-90ish.
Just not sure what recording program and settings would make the best quality with least performance impact. I do already deal with some net lag too so low FPS just amplified it. Though I just recorded a match on half-size/30fps settings on fraps it wasn’t too bad.. Would like to do something a bit better tho.
Also, has anyone else felt that, in the last week or so, the guardian forum has slowly dwindled down to only a few active peoples and barely any new videos or posts? I’d love to see some new people around and making videos, I think that would be super~
If you give me some tips on how to record on a terrible pc I can try to make some.
Beaches Get [WET]
We were a WvW/GvG guild then ANET decided to change our name to Geese Batch [Bird] lol…Also…
Legends Never [DIE] <3
I bet the Dev who made that change was laughing their kitten off.
Try to get a few even and/or outnumbered fights against not so slow in the head zerglings that got lost.
Last video:
EotM kills…. yeah
Next fight, 2v1, 5 signet rifle warrior, Wat! (The only legit fight in the video though.)
Fight at lake tower, you bursting a 30% health player who had no endurance or even saw you coming, then fade out.
Next, 3v5. You were on the 5 side.
EotM 2v2.
Uplevels.EotM kills might as well be recordings of you champ farming in queensdale. I know you can’t dictate the fights you get, but you can dictate what you show us. 1 or 2 fights where impressive/entertaining out of 2 videos. Impress me. Don’t press 3 buttons then port to someone for the burst. You might as well have use slow motion, used dubstep and zoomed on the crits.
I thought the last vid was decent (didnt watch others). But I did lol @ “the first fight is me bursting down a mesmer before they can react”.. Uh bro that Mesmer was afk, it took you 5 seconds to down him and he never made any move, he was clearly afk.
AT is very finicky with terrain much like sword mains iLeap skill. When I use AT I always like to do it at very close range to ensure success, usually a good idea to use from stealth.
It’s already been mentioned that Mesmer has many alternate choices for condi removal if you can’t work with AT.
You don’t want unbalanced matches – but hotjoin -is- severely unbalanced. You said Anet promises but deliver the opposite – and you then say they do give a kitten. That was why I was asking – I wasn’t sure what your intended meanings were.
I understand your desire to remove the reward cap – but I am of the opinion that it will never happen with the direction Anet is taking. Thus, I have tried to convince you that going with what they had in mind would be more fun – and rewarding – in the long run. However, I can’t change opinion in an argument without convincing, scientific evidence that proves me right, and I’ve been foolish in riling you up. If I’ve upset you, I apologise. You did give me your time in replies after all.
Maybe you have more positivity than I do. I guess one can dream; and one can then succeed.
It’s not that I don’t want unbalanced matches. I recognize those happen in every aspect of sPvP it’s just how it is. It’s not even that I want to leave every match that is unbalanced. 400/100 where my team is just being idiotic, yes sometimes when I’m playing I want that option available.
I did not say Anet promises and does not deliver. I am of the opinion that Anet neglected many players throughout several systems in the game for a long time. It is quite obvious they now realize that mistake and have made massive efforts to reverse things. I agree with a lot of decisions they made with this new patch and frankly love it to death. This one decision I happen to feel is a foolish enough step backwards that I want to loudly voice my opinion on it.
I did already mention that I do enjoy soloQ to a certain extent. I actually enjoy it quite a lot. But the thing is, when I click that Q button, it’s serious mode. I always try my best to not let my team down and to help organize a win in any way I can. For me being in a competitive match(even just a solo Q) is a high adrenaline somewhat stressful experience.
I am not always in the mood to put myself in that situation, and certainly am rarely motivated to do it several times in a row. Generally on a long play day it goes something like – First a soloQ followed potentially several hours of hotjoining, another soloQ maybe 2 or 3, and more hotjoin hours.. etc.. Generally before I’ve spent half a day my progression is locked.
My biggest issue is the reason for this limit. Anet implemented it in their own words to combat botting in custom arenas, nothing about hotjoins. I find this to be quite a lazy and barely effective “set it and forget it” tactic.
Would it not be much easier and effective to eliminate these Custom Arenas which allow such things. Or at least fix it so there is a distinction from CA/HJ and eliminate this limit in HJ.
Lets face it, botting in hotjoin is not the issue. It’s nowhere near the same as these Custom Farms. For one, the team with the afk guy is going to LOSE – whats the point in that? For the botting to be effective you need a fully committed server that lets one side win quickly over and over.
It’s a bit contradictory because, yes 99% of me is playing just because I love player versus player and always have. But there is also that 1% that also craves unlocking new skins and dressing up all my toons and changing dyes around all the time.. This all takes gold and xmutes and all that junk.
I have endured enough neglect in this area being a WvW player.. I’m tired of it. Anet has made recently huge steps in the right direction, but this is wrong.
Also it takes more then a forum post to make me mad.
I did find value in many of your words.
Lately I’ve been using this for my tpvp matches, it’s a pretty common build I just changed the ammy and such. It’s extremely tanky, and still hits hard. It relies a lot on might stacks for your power, you average about 15 stacks of might by yourself. Even more if you op to use rune of strength, but I prefer speed.
Have you tried this with Celestial Amulet? I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I ran a build similar to this with one.
Make it slower to progress in hotjoins.
Anything, just remove this ridiculous lock so I can progress and earn the things I want (its still slow anyways) while playing the way I want.
BTW- You can ALREADY get WAY HIGHER rewards through MORE CASUAL play such as boss farming which just got way easier.. So much for that argument.
Oh btw when you are soloQ, you know solo. There are 4 other people who help determine that win/loss.. If you are with 4 people who wont work with you, you aren’t going to win.
Discerning what you want is amusing.
Then you are forcing non-fun on yourself by choosing to go with a game mode that doesn’t reward you as much. What is it you want? Do you want to PvP for the rewards or just PvP for fun? Or do you PvP for progress? So you want both and you’d even slow down progress on the track just so you can feel like you’re earning progress throughout the day?
I’d like to remind you that before this patch, the more you PvP you only get to PvP in prettier clothes. Did you find hotjoin amazing then? Or did the rewards make hotjoin amazing?
I guess you just want increased rewards for minimal effort invested. Fair enough… but I doubt that’s what Anet wants for their tiny PvP community. They made Solo queue and Team queue more rewarding for a reason. PvP is competitive by nature and if they want it to thrive or at least not die out, they will encourage people to dive into the deep end. Some new players are willing to learn and attend informal tutorial workshops and they read up on how to play conquest. They take the flak that the condescending veterans throw at them and keep going. More effort, more rewards. They are putting out that effort.
You seem to be nitpicking the definition that Anet provided for the reward capping. The reality remains that no matter who you are, Anet gives no flying kittens about what you want. People have suggested fixes, trait rework, skill revamps, map removals… and Anet always come up with their own ideas.
Some aspects of solo queue would play out the same as hotjoin – if you have players that won’t work with you, you won’t win either. What does hotjoin offer that Solo queue doesn’t? The ability to leave game and switch sides when the game’s not in your favour? You seem awfully adamant on staying away from other aspects of PvP. Higher up in Solo queue, people try and play to win and your concerns of leaving and afk’ing should be alleviated. Too much hotjoin can be bad for morale. Work your way up the ladder and the action gets better.
TL;DR You want more stuff for less. We’ve all been there. Deal with it.
What do I want? I already made that very clear 10 times now.. I’ll do it again for the fun of it.
I want to spend all day Saturday doing hotjoins if I feel like it by myself and not be punished for 2/3 of the day by not progressing toward the skin I would like to unlock.
No I don’t want “more for less”. In fact I could argue it could take MORE effort to secure wins in hotjoins.
Wow that sounds like such an unreasonable thing!!
You make a lot of stupid assumptions about my thoughts which completely contradict what I have posted in this topic.. So I wont respond to any of that junk.
Oh I want to mention that up until the recent patch since release I have been a completely WvW only player spending thousands of hours in WvW for little to no reward.
Anet is finally getting on track fixing some of the systems in this game that shaft certain players.. This decision though is a mistake in my opinion. And I will continue to speak out against it whether you think anyone else cares or not.
*As a side note. The recent patch contained MANY things in it spurred by players like me speaking out against things they found lacking. So I’m pretty sure Anet does “give a kitten” about me and others.
(edited by dank.3680)
I’d say it takes communication before the match. Never assume your team knows what they’re doing. A lot of guys have skill but not knowledge on how to use it in pvp. (Many have come from WvW and so can duel the heck out of anyone, but don’t understand point capping strategies.) Generally I try and “force” my team to figure out what they’re going to do before we even start the match. Now, don’t be all bossy about it, but let people know it takes good strategy to win. I’ve generally found good success with this. I’m not sure what my recent ratio is but it feels as if I win about 2/3 of the games I play so if that’s true, it’s worth a shot right?
I start every match with “Hi”. Then some random comment such as “we going to kick kitten right”.. Followed by my personal opinion of the map strategy. (such as pay attention to that orb or assessing if we will be able to control laser and suggesting counter play if not) etc..
Throughout the match I’ll just say things like “orb orb orb” or “pls don’t fight off point pass them up”.. Being polite and not accusatory.. It has seemed to have very positive effects more often then not.
I have yet to see any afk people in solo queue solely just for rewards, you are being a bit overdramatic of the situation. And even if people did AFK (which they do not) their ranking would reduce to the point where anyone who is in that bracket is really bad at PvP.
Fair enough, I suppose I embellished that particular point. (Even though it’s not exactly the topic of this thread).
I have however seen several soloQ matches ruined due to afkers.
But another thing comes to mind which makes it hard to even read any opinion you may have. Why is it that you feel players who may not be so good in pvp don’t count and it doesn’t matter if they are having a bad experience due to afk’ers or whatnot?
95% of the playerbase who participate in tournaments would not be affected if people just afk’ed every single match and forced a loss. That is how the rating system works, you will keep losing and you will face against other who also keep losing.
A person who AFK because they are losing is much different than a person who just afk’s because of rewards. The whole reason for capping rewards in hotjoins in the first place was to prevent bots who AFK for rewards.
If you notice someone consistently afking in solo queue, you can report them for botting (as no sane player would just play the game to sit in the base every match) and they will be banned.
Well first of all, you seem to ignore the other 4 people in a match who lose due to 1 person afking and ruining the game. They also don’t move up.
Also the bottom of the ladder is where new players arrive. Should it not matter if this is a toxic environment? Of course it does..
Please realize you are no more important then me or joe schmoe or the guy who keyboard turns and takes 5 seconds to click a skill.
As to your last point, it is of my opinion that the reporting system should work for all parts of the games and all players.. Not just those who think they are more important then others. So why couldn’t we report in hotjoin too?
Aside from that, afk botters in hotjoin was not even the stated reason for this. In fact HOTJOIN wasn’t even mentioned in the post.
As some of you have noticed, reward tracks are capped at TWO TIERS a day if you are playing in custom arenas. This is intended to prevent botting in custom arenas. There is NO LIMIT to how much progress you can make on reward tracks if you are playing in solo or team arena. Just wanted to clear this up!
How hard would it be for there to be a reporting system for reporting farm arenas? Again a low budget game called Neverwinter easily solved this same issue with their “Foundry”(a tool which allowed people to build their own levels and upload them into the main game).
Oh btw when you are soloQ, you know solo. There are 4 other people who help determine that win/loss.. If you are with 4 people who wont work with you, you aren’t going to win. Your win/loss or ranking in SoloQ means absolutely nothing.
(edited by dank.3680)
my post the other day made this topic unreadable?
“I can’t count how many times I jumped into an outnumbered fight timing shield of wrath explosion with JI and then Leap of faith and seen 2-3 enemies instantly downed , and if not definitely scattering like ants with low hp and long burns on them.. Which of course then prompts GS 5/2.”
Not sure what level of skill those opponents have or how glassy they were but versus the people I play, that is impossible. xD
If you’re jumping into a group already engaged in a fight, Shield of Wrath can do some massive AOE damage timed well with Judge’s Intervention. Even in 1v1 it’s pretty obvious that it’s coming but still quite effective. I usually get 4-5k damage with it.
Here’s something like I use.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAsdSnkIS1Q2NEmDB/QmIeQsOUrNVF46fBzB-TpBFwAMOCAy3fYwDAYxhAoaZAAnAAA
Completely focused on dps. Besides my burst combo, the sword AA does some serious sustained damage. Works great in team fights with the cleave and the survivability is decent considering how focused on dps I am. I’ve got a full condition cleanse with contemplation of purity that’s usually all I need in a 1v1 as the fight doesn’t last that long. I’ll use smite condition for damage more often and some fury, though it is handy to cleanse an imob on low CD.
My burst combo is: Shield of Wrath > Mighty Blow > Judge’s Intervention > Banish > Zealot’s Embrace > Flashing Blade > Smite Condition > Sword AA.
Combining Shield of Wrath with Mighty Blow on a Judge’s Intervention can do about 10k in damage. If you can pull off banish or zealot’s embrace it’s easy enough to AA them down with sword. With fury up the sword hits at 86% crit chance (51% base, 15% from Right Hand Strength and 20% from fury) and with the 30% damage multipliers and crit damage that’s a lot of damage.
Sigils and runes are generally left to preferences, but I really enjoy runes of the traveler. It really helps to stick to your target with sword AA. I also take berserker amulet for max dps. Anything less isn’t a dps guardian and more like a hybrid.
Scepter also works really well instead of hammer.
Funny I made this same build yesterday with only a couple trait swaps (same point allocation) and different sigils. I found it quite enjoyable and effective.. I did surprisingly find it harder to do as well in long sustained group fights then with my burst build. Strong offense seems to be a pretty good dmg mitigator. I found 1v1 very easy with it, though much longer.

But another thing comes to mind which makes it hard to even read any opinion you may have. Why is it that you feel players who may not be so good in pvp don’t count and it doesn’t matter if they are having a bad experience due to afk’ers or whatnot?
If the lock is removed the only thing this will do is encourage more people to afk autorun into wall after capping a point and wait for endgame reward.
You have any good suggestions to prevent this from happening?
Rewarded by playing the parts of the game they enjoy huh. You -are- rewarded. Just not to the extent that you want to.
Think it’s a bit different in an MMO. You can mod and cheat in single player offline games, but in an MMO achievements should come with effort. With effort -> achievement -> comparison with peers -> superiority -> enjoyment as your primary concern. Can’t skip straight to enjoyment for free. If I can just get the best stuff in game by casual play, then everyone will have everything and no one will be playing this. You can say what you want and call names and defend your claim. But I don’t think your demands will go anywhere. Have fun.
You do realize all this does is push those afk-autorunners into the SoloQ arenas right? Would you rather scrubs were in hotjoins where you are free to leave, or ruining SoloQ matches you are bound to remain in?
By the way Neverwinter managed to combat this very same problem without breaking pvp rewards, and in that game these afkers were a PLAGUE.
Getting rewarded for playing the parts of the game you like for a limited time for day is NOT being rewarded to ANY extent for the remainder of that play day, unless you UNWILLINGLY play another form of the game mode.
This is like saying, oh from now on you can only get rewarded for 1 keep cap in EOTM due to preventing organized guilds from farming pugs.. It’s RIDICULOUS!!
BTW- You can ALREADY get WAY HIGHER rewards through MORE CASUAL play such as boss farming which just got way easier.. So much for that argument.
Well Anet, you did finally drive me away from WvW for the most part.. And recently with the addition of reward tracks have gotten me a bit interested in Spvp.
I like working towards a track and being able to earn skins / xmutes and even some gold from PvP since I don’t enjoy the PVE aspect of the game.
Here’s the catch.. Once again, I find Anet feels the strange need to force me into things I don’t want to do.
I am -not- into tournaments. I dislike several maps, I HATE Skyhammer with a kittening passion.
I want to just play casually when I have time – not be committed to wasting my time remaining in severely unbalanced matches. Or being forced to play in a map I absolutely have 0 fun playing or force risk becoming locked out of pvp..
I was having AMAZING fun doing hotjoins and loving that I was able to earn the above mentioned things meanwhile. But that didn’t last long as my progress gets locked.. Forcing me to play the mode I don’t have fun in.
Make it slower to progress in hotjoins..
Ban botters if that’s the issue (your lack of in-game detailed report options in this day and age of online gaming is pathetic).
Make rules against farming arenas and close them down when you find them (hey another reason for a REAL reporting system / lazy and pathetic). – if that’s your reasoning..
Anything, just remove this ridiculous lock so I can progress and earn the things I want (its still slow anyways) while playing the way I want. You know, like you always have and continually promise but deliver the opposite.
I think the lock from the stickied thread says it is 2 tiers per day. If you aren’t farming the hotjoin w/ friends and you are just playing it should take a little while to hit that limit. Go back to wvw for the rest of the day.
Come back to hotjoins the next day. If you max out the 2 tiers per day w/ just hot joins then should only take you 4 days to complete a track.
I don’t think the benefits of removing the 2 tier/day limit would be worth the exploiting that would happen without it.
I PvP ONLY by myself as my guild and friends are pure wvw players for the most part. I find it VERY easy to hit this lock solo in hotjoins when I have a day off or w/e. Obviously its not happening on nights where I play only a couple hours. But the days it does happen, are the ones I’m wishing to further my progressions the most.
“Go back to WvW”
Why? Why should I have to do that?
Can’t people bot better rewards already, easily, in PvE? This botter excuse is silly.
/TLDQ
I just want to clear up one thing you addressed in your post. I do not do PvP just for the reward tracks (some people do and that to me is perfectly acceptable).
I do also quite enjoy playing SoloQ matches several times a day. But only when I have time and motivation to fully dedicate myself to a team/match. When I don’t have to worry my home distractions hurting my team.
For me hotjoin is the filler between when I’m ready to go in a Queued match. Kind of like farming risen in an area around an event spot between events. It’s where I can play and enjoy some PvP when I might not be fully commited, or have high chances of distractions or w/e.
Should I not get drops from random risen in event zones because there might be botters? This is exactly the logic happening here.
I agree TeamQ should have higher rewards, SoloQ should have lower then team and higher then Hotjoin. But Hotjoin progression should NOT be limited to 2 tracks per 24 hours, it is simply ridiculous and unfair, not only that it doesn’t solve the problem it’s supposedly intended to solve.
If I feel like PvP’ing all day I end up feeling forced to go into SoloQ’s even though I might not particularly want to once I get locked out of progressing.
Sure I love PvP itself and play mostly for that. But lets face it, who doesn’t enjoy unlocking new skins and things of that sort while enjoying the game. It may not be the most important part of joining in a pvp game, but it is important nonetheless to many many players.
they are not forcing u pal,u want rewards u need to solo or team que,u cant zerg in hotjoin with ur pals and get rewards,u need to go solo que and win atleast one duel or node by urself without ur hotjoiners pal.Not every1 is meant to have those rewards, those rewards are for us pvp players so we dont get bored not some casual hotjoiner thank you
1v1 me bro..
Seriously though, that’s all I read in your silly paragraph there.
Every player in the game needs to be reward by playing the parts of the game they enjoy. Not only big ego’d, self-centric sçrubs like you.
Well you missed my point. Which was not that players are forced into sPvP. It’s that the players in sPvP are forced into queued matches(aka competitive ones that you are bound to once you enter).
Many of these players are casuals and really don’t want what queued matches offer in comparison to the carefree play of hotjoins. Many are there purely to advance reward tracks for skins, xmute charges, and w/e else they offer.
one can contrive “argument” out of anything. but then there is mmr to match soloQ newbies with newbies and pro’s with pro’s. then someone will say that mmr is poor. then someone will say that its not poor but no algorithm will work without dense base. then someone will say that base needs rewards and anet should place better rewards in various gamemodes.
some fixates with single aspect of choice and with that fixation make possibly bad setup worse. there is no argument here, move on ppl.
I don’t know what all this nonsense you posted here is but it has nothing to do with the point I made. Perhaps you are just dense, perhaps you are a troll.
In any case, anet just needs to remove the Reward Track Progression limit that currently exists on Hotjoin.
there are around maybe 10 dps builds that work fine in pvp for guardians.
Very much agree with this.
What weapons are you using? The effectiveness of a guard in duels is affected strongly by whether you’re using primarily 1H or 2H weapons, I’ve found. Sceptre/sword is a lot more resistant to kiting than hammer/greatsword. Dank’s build is an example of the former; it’s a great duelist build but it falls flat when there are more people around. I ran something like that for a while, but it is frustrating when there are 3 people around and you can only hit one of them, and you have to watch the others take your teammates down.
The build I’m running now is a hammer/gs build with 20k hp. I can duel, the hammer gives me some control, but it’s not too difficult to kite me. Where I excel is in team fights, where the two weapons put out massive AoE damage and I don’t really die that easily. That’s a niche of a DPS guardian I think.
So you basically have 2 options: duel centred build that falters in team fights, or team-fight centred build that falters in duels. I personally wouldn’t choose the former, as a thief/mesmer/warrior/engi can all do that very well. Guardians are always framed as team players rather than soloists, and it’s interesting how this characteristic has made its way into the way we do damage too.
I have to disagree on your assessment that my build falls short with multiple targets. If you’ve ran it and felt that way you did something way wrong.
I have been running it in soloq for days now and have excelled in many/many 1vx fights including vs X with healer/hybrid/other dps Guards. The build has the potential to near instantly down several low armor enemies with aoe such kittenter Mesmers and glass thieves.
I can’t count how many times I jumped into an outnumbered fight timing shield of wrath explosion with JI and then Leap of faith and seen 2-3 enemies instantly downed , and if not definitely scattering like ants with low hp and long burns on them.. Which of course then prompts GS 5/2.
With all the blinds and blocks and invuln intelligently used, it also has the potential to come out the victor of longer sustain fights.
Anyways I went on too long now, and the build does have its counters and weaknesses, but you were incorrect in identifying them.

Well i hope you got that rage out your system
Not quite I need to post it in a few more topics. Or better yet, after every queued match I’m forced to play in order to get reward track progression. This way, I can annoy Anet as much as they do I.
yes, we were outplayed. the 500 team were mostly dragon players and have much more experience than our team. on our casual team we have a bear, a tiger, a wolf and 2 dollies.
I think your image easily proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Warrior is OP. And not only that, but that a Warrior can easily choose any teammate such as a Necromancer, and carry them into being a top scorer.
The ‘Outplayed’ comment was in reference to the forums, not the game.
I know there has probably been a thread about this. But honestly get tired of reading about all the QQ’ing. Would be nice to read about some good true lighthearted sportsmanship.
Like this one time fighting a thief, we ran circles around each other with neither one of us wanting to give. This went on for what seemed like ages (was probably really only a few minutes). Then finally we both just sat down and flew our kites and called it a stalemate. Not soon after that this thief’s zerg shows up and our short lived peaceful armistice was ended and I had to book it out of there. Like I just got caught sneaking into the girlfriends house and got caught by her parents. Would have been nice to at least caught the thiefs name.
And another time and another thief. I’m just casually roaming flying solo and spot them. of course you can’t pass up an opportunity for a fight. Win or lose, tap or not your always gonna get up learn something from it. But anyways I come up on them thinking I’ve got the jump on them (ha what was I thinking I’m a big kitten norn warrior). Nope I did not have an advantage. Not in any sort of way. Battle is very short lived and downs me, and I’m laying on my back throwing all I’ve got at him and he’s running away, he gets a good ways away turns around and bows and continues on his way. Whoever you were sir. I respect you. That is all.
Does anyone else have any good storied like this and wished they had at least caught the name of the person?
Just one question I always have to ask when I see the name Sanctus. Did you play a game way back called Knight Online?
-edit I guess I should put something on topic too.
Out roaming on my thief back when I first starting playing s/d. Running along near the old ruins area right after capping the sentry.. I see a Thief coming at me from behind, and just continue to run along like I didn’t see him..
As predicted he must have been spamming f1 to seal as soon as he got in range, which I evaded with sword 3 meanwhile watching him CND the air. I laugh thinking I now have a chance to turn and burst on him, well the exact scenario happens, in reverse.. (mind you this is in the span of just seconds).
So here we are, both have failed out steal, cnd’s and end up with some distance between us. At the same time we both sword 2 toward each other (slightly out of range we both used it), which ended up in the game being confused I think and some wierd tele glitching..
Having another failure, and both low on ini, nobody landing a hit yet we charge head on into each other. Both of us simultaneously using sword 3 to evade the perceived incoming CND. At which point, we proceeded to BOTH fail steal/cnd AGAIN. I refuged, so did he. I never saw him again.

“I got outplayed by much better players, warrior must not be strong”
exactly, and this is the reason why warriors are not overpowered.
because, if warriors are overpowered, we would overwhelmed the much better players. but this is not the case, so, warriors are not overpowered.
Or you could be so terrible that even the warrior class could not carry you.
Outplayed.
Those people are there because Anet forces them to be.
no one forces anyone anything. this is a game where each plays because they want so.
and yes, anet should be commended for trying to bring players to pvp. don’t blame developer if you cant get a team in a packed mists. honestly, players have all options, where you end up is your own doing.
The problem is Anet with their infinite “wisdom” has punished some players by limiting track progression in hotjoin and custom arenas.
What this does is forces all those players you hate so much, to have to play and therefore potentially ruin, queued matches.
Too many people come into tourney games and go afk or just leave if they get skyhammer or maps they don’t like nowsaday. There’s nothing anet is doing to ramp up punishments for such players.
Those people are there because Anet forces them to be. They really wanna be hotjoin players but Anet felt the need to force bads or people who plain don’t want to be in a competitive match, to ruin them for others by removing progression for casual players.
I do find it funny that you jump straight to dishing out punishment without assessing what is suddenly causing so much of this behavior.
I REALLY hate Skyhammer.. That is all.
I understand this and I agree with it…here in EU servers we have farm arenas where ppl go only to farm this rewards and thank god theres a cap otherwhise ppl would farm that 24/7…ohh and there should be a cap in rank points too…again cause of these farm arenas!
Or:
Make a rule against ‘farm arenas’ and close them down, you know – rather then punishing players who have nothing to do with these ‘farm arenas’.
