I feel part of the issue must be bureaucracy, its hard to simply do things, even if the thing that needs doing is simple. Its hard to get things tested, its hard to get things approved.

They REALLY need to cut through the red tap. I took a 4 month break from this game so that I would be able to notice changes when I got back. Slow balance changes I get , slow major bug fixes I don’t. Spvp does feel like an oversight, which is a pity because most of us though that would be the focus of the game.

It’s funny to see what the devs get accused of. When I left spirit ranger was basically useless. Now people say its OP. And to accuse Dev’s of being behind this because they want pet rangers. LOL.

Whenever I think ‘how do people get these crazy conspirarcy theories’ about things in life, I need look no further than any video game forum where people post on the various shadow dev conspiracies. .

Im just back so take advice with grain of salt. But, when I used to play necros where somewhat vunerable to power dps. So maybe power , rather than condition spam is the way to go.

Cant say as I just returned today. The game was relatively balanced when I left, however it had so few viable specs.

A lot of play diversity +balance is near impossible.

Balance is less kitten the coding that new content. but more difficult in other ways. In part because sometimes buffing /nerfing one thing has unforeseen consequences. making something that was previously ok, now over powered or useless. Balance is incredibly difficult to achieve. IN fact, ITS NEVER perfect.

HEy returning from like 5 or 6 months gone because they brought in solo Q finally.

I pretty much only do SPVP , what is the current meta spec for engy in solo q? And what are the new things I need to watch out for (im reading on forums a lot of complaining about spirit rangers). Basically any advice you could give to someone about anything to do with the current state of spvp.

Part of this is the homogeneity of meta. Once people see top players using a spec effectively it tends to become fairly common spec. And at any particular time in the game certain specs are going to be more common (like having a lot of condition clear if condition meta is heavy).

Since my team quit didn’t really feel like putting up the effort to find another one and solo quing when premades/soloers both joined same tournies was brutal. So I’m just asking how is the solo Q? does it pop frequently, even late at night?

I play an engy-i presume solo Q meta is different, and I have been gone for months-whats a good current way to spec the engy.

Being aware of cooldowns is super important, EVEN More important because if you get good at fighting classes you can dodge key abilities. Every class has a handful of go to moves that if you dodge successfully your odds of winning vs them goes up an awful lot.

Necro is a good counter to engy so is thief, if your playing on a team.

Wall of reflection. also hgh engies have NO MELee so whatever that one bubble shield ability is that can only be broken down by melee is very useful against an engy specially in 1on1.

the recent changes to warrior in the last patch where a step in the right direction. but warriors are probably still the weakest class in spvp, another buff is needed.

1. A solo/duo Q with its own ladder.
2. More build diversity and balance
3. More game modes, perhaps introduced via custom arenas.

4. A bit of a cheat-rewards for pvp, in game gold/silver for example.

Forget Esports- Matchmaking is still awful.

Had a thief, did play it a little way back, more like 6 months since I log on it. never even logged on a ranger.

Lot’s of broken runes and sigils, fixing those would be major.

daydream — a lot of people bought the game with the expectation it might be a little like Guild Wars 1.

Pretty sure the Devs didn’t advertise that they would be starting over from scratch and taking no inspiration from Guild Wars 1.

Pretty sure they said AAA Esport, which GW1 was pretty close to being, if only team sizes were a bit smaller.

If they wanted to introduce a new kind of PvP for players like you, in addition to something that was the spiritual successor to GW1, that would have been fine. But instead they replaced it. That wasn’t cool. This … rivals Star Wars episodes 4, 5, and 6. Because even if I respect Star Wars more than I did Guild Wars, the failure was more pronounced.

Im not saying this game isn’t without problems , im just saying it needs to be its own thing. IF gw1 has some good suggestions or ideas, then that’s fine, but sometimes the gw1 players are almost cultlike in there commitment to how things used to be.

I think the viewer expectation was that you talk about the future of the game. If we’re watching the cast… we probably already understand the basics of PvP.

I appreciate that you answered a question about if new game types would be introduced, and talked about death match, so let me just spell this out.

You lied to your fanbase and a lot of us are upset. We wanted a game inspired by GW1 GvG or at least Hall of Heroes. I think it’s generous to call this inspired by GW1s 4v4 arenas — definatly not the more popular of your game modes.

Your game lacks depth of strategy. You talked about team composition, no talk of build types like VIMWAY, Blood Spike, Ele Spike, NS, Bonds, Healing Ball, Ranger Spike, Ranger Interupt, I’d even take IWAY.

The reality is that this game, Guild Wars 2, is not a sequel to GW1 in PvP. It is a new game, and that game, unlike GW1, does not have a deep or rich PvP. It has a PvP. Shallow, clunky, buggy, red headed, and from the man before you.

You have a large fanbase that doesn’t want death match, we want depth. You did not provide. We want you to now. We wanted a video talking about how you would expand the depth of your game — not another pitiful attempt to convince us it already has depth. We tried that. I honestly really tried that. I gave you an open minded honest go and I found your gameplay lacking, I offered thoughtful constructive criticism, and you responded to small details slowly.

Just announce development of a game mode with the same flavor of fun as Guild Wars 1. Don’t put it in an expansion, nobody trusts you enough to spend more money. You betrayed that trust.

I didn’t like gw1 even a little bit. So im glad its not like gw1. This game has a lot of problems though but its problem is NOT that its not gw1.

A lot of people have been asking for quitter penalties, thus far nadda.
Only thing on the horizon that might help is the development of a proper solo q.

The 5 stacks per player kill are only applying periodically. I seem to be inconsistently getting the stacks. Unless some update was made that I am not aware of its diffently not working like it used to.
Though id let people know.

Classes have had some very recent adjustments so its difficult to give 100% info on how they fall out in the new meta.

Strong classes include ele, engy(1 spec though), ranger and guardian.

But ALL classes are viable, it does somewhat depend on what roll you want to play. If your truly indifferent to what you play, or how it plays, I recommend ele. Its a strong class and very fun.
If you want to be in demand, learn bunker guardian.

Bad idea. While PvP is teamplay game, ataching any achivement to wining is a bad idea – like daily tournaments now. I need to do things I really don’t like – like hang out with some PvP guild (personal taste – I hate 100% of those I’ve been joined, not my kind of crowd), just because doing tournaments with pug is some kind of sick lottery. And after few days, when the charm fall off, weak daily runers will fall off, wich leaves me with choics – “join pvp guild” or “don’t do daily tournaments”.

1 win a day? not hard to achieve even solo quing.

I never got the guild vs guild thing. 5vs5 it makes no difference in terms of play experience or content if they are all in the same guild or not.

A guild is just a bunch of players, so is a team.

There is a player who has been in the top 10 of the leaderboards Na, since its launch, his wins/losses not having changed once.

So, up there for over a month without playing a game, that’s too slow of a decay.

They recently nerfed thief stealth and burst.

I didn’t have any unique trouble with thiefs prior to those nerfs. not to say I didn’t die to them, but I gave as good as I got. I found the mechanic fun to fight against. You have to think and anticipate.

To early to call , however, I think rangers currently are not as strong as ele’s were. So if its an issue, its less of an issue. My concern is spirit watch and bm rangers though, havnt had that on tourney rotation so too soon to call.

Except that its not. Ask anybody in the top 50 of the leaderboards and they will tell you 100% mesmers are not the strongest class. In fact im not even rated that highly and I know that.

I disagree with the 4 unique player thing, trolls would have a field day.

I’d have the first d/q 30 min, the 2nd 45 mins, the 3rd 60 mins, on any given day.
Basically a small penalty that gets more steep if you do it more often.
I also would hope that a solo Q would encourage people to stay, not pull out the we vs a premade im outta here excuse. But a quitter penaltly is , imo, needed. its frustrating to watch someone quit your match, basically ending it and knowing that they don’t pay any penalty for it .

Id just have decay start if you don’t play 10 games in a week. And have decay be small, but pick up momentum each week you don’t play.

Let it be for a bit, see how the meta plays itself out. this is the first patch that might actually shake things up, and its way to early to call on what adjustments need to be made. Eles have been on top for 5+ months. And are probably still not the weakest class, so…you get to be the rest of us for a bit till we see how things shake out.

Very solid first go of things. I think he needs a co-caster, and of course to slow down a tad as its being watched, not a radio broadcast.
