Allowing us to bind buttons for speech would be amazing. LIke I could bind a key for game voice to say ‘incoming to home point’ or whatever. This way you could relay some basic information without having to type.
People who want voice chat can get on voip. in game voip is probably a bit much.
An assortment issue is that oceanic players tend to go to oceanic servers, like IOJ, db or sos, understandably. They want to be on a server with people on during the times they are on. The result however is that it creates mismatchs.
I think the whole system is flawed, I’ve never seen a game punish people for logging off, but, I cant think of what to do about it.
I craft, and I like to craft, but I don’t want to pve to farm nodes. So, keep them. OR make objectives give better resources.
Wvw is odd, as u can almost entirely predict beforehand who is going to do well, based on the current wvw rankings, factoring in recent trends, like SOR falling. And the transferring it causes is an issue.
Wont using torch kill your damage?
Or am I missing something?
Oops meant to post this in Mesmer forums, but seems I dropped it in wvwvw forums.
Anyways, what I want to know is are there any abilities or trait ways that you can spec that help with being shatter burst AND good at removing conditions/surviving. Traditionally I understood shatter was
20.20,0,0,30
but I might run 20 , 20,0,10,20 to get the cleanse on heal.
Ive even though of trying 20,0,0,30,30 to try and take advantage of some of the group buffs up inspiriation since I often run in a tight knit group.
anyone got suggestions for a shatter build that is complete squish.
It IS a problem, but this isn’t the solution.
In fact I have no idea what the solution is. I’m on BP atm and IOJ’s nightcrew/oceanic way, way outnumbers us, its annoying logging on to find your waypointed keeps where basically pvd ever day.

there are other ways to play engy, just not other POWER ways to play.
Sorta. you can do power flamethrower. but power grenade IS the best.
flamethrower is a power weapon, not a condi weapon imo. Trait and build accordingly.
in 1on1 , its a necro. its nearly IMPOSSIBLE for an engy to beat a necro in 1on1. If its either condi or power with cleanse.
Mesmers also give me trouble.
everything else I usually beat 1on1.
10 ppl jumped off a cliff beside me and landed with like 2 hp’s each, 2 aoes and I had downed all 10 of them on my engy.
If you are a condi pu Mesmer, people are going to run from you in 1on1, because they are NEARLY impossible to beat in a 1on1.
1. IF, its incredibly powerful and EASY to play, so that it makes even low skill players very deadly.
2. If it changes the meta so that you have to play to counter it, and yet despite best efforts to specifically counter it, its still not only viable but powerful.
3. If it becomes the ‘if your not running this spec on that class’ your an idiot build. In other words if it becomes a mandatory spec.
Some general good rule of thumbs.
Impossible, because individual min maxing is not the same as team min maxing. In team games people OFTEN build there characters to be specialists at doing a particular thing, and would lose to a more generally speced player in 1on1.
1on1 balance exists is NO pvp game with skill tree variety. It exists in games where people are clones of each other, like call of duty. But is league of legends, the most popular pvp game on the planet 1on1 balanced? NO.
Is world of warcraft 1on1 balanced? NO.
And even if all classes COULD be balanced 1on1, you would still have people specializing to do things in a team environment that would lead to more group power, but less individual power.
The in game arena ready button would be a great idea.
Want to learn to interrupt? duel. 1on1 fights in a controlled way will teach you like nobodies business.
Ya i just want to use Mesmer a bit because my guild doesn’t have one. And i really don’t know the class well, and people said PU is the current meta on it, so i want to learn that. Also i find them hard to fight against on my engy. Curiously warriors don’t give me much trouble on the engy and everyone complains about them -_-.
Hmm, i suppose i should learn about a support build as well, like using viel and portal for when im in a bigger group.
I see this regen on stealth, stealth cleanse build is popular, how does that go again?
Right but at least if I know the typical traits and abilities I can reason from there.
Right, I get that it wouldn’t be useful for spvp. More in terms of just going into dueling hotjoins and learning to 1on1 in it.
What is this PU build I see on mesmers so much lately with perplexity runes often.
What trait line , typical skills are used, and what type of gear. Id really like to understand this build. Might try it out in spvp to get a taste for how to fight with it and against it.
Traits depend on your weaponset and gear, and what you’re trying to accomplish.
A 0/30/30/0/10 build is fine if you just want to be a pain in the kitten while you are roaming around. You have damage, you have lots of stealth, and a little bit of Fury/init help from Trickery. That setup works well with D/P. Not much of a small group spec, though.
what is much of a small group spec?
currently im trying
25/30,0,0,15
But what about the trait lines.
somebody in game today suggested I go 0, 30,30,0,10
Anet DOES need to do something to help the lower tiers.
The first step is free downward transfers.
IF your on a t3 server and want to transfer to t6, it should be free. That way people can go down tiers, but not up tiers, for free, might create movement that way.
Wvwvw population is whats relevant, not pve population, and the best indicator of wvw population is tier.
This is somewhat of a problem because oceanic players, understandably want to play on servers where there are other oceanics. So the oceanic players, unlike Na players, tend to cluster on a few specific servers.
IOJ, Dragonbrand, sea of sorrows come to mind.
In a 1on1 , if your fast .5, even .25 can be interrupted, in group fights its much harder to interrupt because its a lot harder to keep track.
Currently my thief is 25,30,0,0,15, but I seem to rarely bump into thiefs running the same builds.
What are good wvw builds and what kinda gear should I be wearing, pure zerker? Or do I want some tough and vit.
Just because the WvW population is low doesn’t mean the PVE population is low.
right, that’s part of the issue, some servers look deceptively well populated but have nearly nobody who goes into wvw.
1) stay away from them, ie kite ,
2) have a front line with stability, ie warriors gaurdians.
3) aoe the biggest cluster of them with ur backline eles, engies etc.
4) be mobile, ull need to move and kite a lot.
5) collect loot bags.
What should I start getting in terms of gear, exotics and ascended.
weapons and armor, like stats I should be going for.

Everything is small man on kain.
Sometimes I get tempted to xfer down, just to help out, they really should make t7,8 free to xfer to.
Ioj would have fun fighting db, IOj wouldn’t be completely dominated during oceanic like most of the other sub t2 servers are.
If your on maggume then you don’t want to transfer, that’s a good fight server in t2.
Yes BP has a good pop, unless ur oceanic, then u want something like IOJ.
T4 is good to avoid zergs, but if you play during north American primetime, you need to go all the way down to t5 to avoid the zerg, even borlis pass ques eternal most nights in primetime.
You need to say what server your on npac.
And it might help if you post that in the title by changing it. Unless your willing to xfer servers.
But most skill groups don’t take entirely anonymous invites. But if your on borlis pass I can point you to some people.
I’m going to go with what I think are non controversial ideas, ones that nearly everyone would accept.
1). Guild commander tags. -Non public commander tags. Right now a lot of guilds want to run guild only in world vs world, and therefore don’t want to have a commander tag up, this can be a tad tricky if you have more than than 10 people online. It would be helpful to have a non blue tag -gold maybe- that indicates a guild commander that only fellow guildies can see the tag for.
2). It would be really nice if wvwvw changed your spec , like heart of the mists does, I know heart is its own mini zone, but many individuals and classes have to CONSANTLY respect to switch between game modes, this hurts the wvw population.
3) Personal locker, have a set of gear waiting for you in a locker that u can just click and it all equips, so that it a) helps people who changes spec speed up gear change and b) its something you can put on the gem store, u can bet nearly EVERYONE who world vs worlds would buy this. And it provides no particular advantage except a character screen worth of slots that quick quick onto a player, much less actual space than buying an actual bank tab. But available in all borderlands and eternal background waypoint area.
4). I know you’ve said you will be doing this, but merging wvw ranks so alt players aren’t punished so hard, and allowing each different character to spend his own points accordingly. My warrior may want ram mastery, but my thief will not.
What does the community think of these ideas? I tried to post ones that are as universal as I could think, and would bother nearly nobody.
A lot of commanding does seem to be running something durable so you can stay up front and yell damage on my tag to focus where the aoe is going.
It would be nice if they could find a way to make skill more relevant in the open field. Not that good organized groups don’t trounce bad ones, but look at how much varience there is between a top 5on5 group and a merely good one, its huge.
whereas a good 20 man group will be 90% as strong as a great one. It becomes a lot more about specs and running the right balance of classes than skill.
I bet now with edge of the mists the lower tier servers are even more empty in the wvwvw lakes.
If you want to be good at 1on1, choose condi over power for the most part.
Engies are great in big fights, grenade kit , literally hitting 5 ppl non stop over and over.
and if you run hgh you can cleanse, and buff your group mates with elixirs also.
I used to play warhammer online, and one of the best changes they EVER made was to nerf aoe. See in a small group assiting targets determines who wins, but after a certain number of people, say about 10+ it becomes more about aoe coordination, which mind you still takes some skill, but much less. IF you nerf aoe the individual player skill of groups comes out MUCH more , who can assist etc.
In a nutshell, nerfing aoe results in skill being more expressed as a variable and will do more to separate the good groups from the bad. A lot of ‘skill’ groups are really just organized cooperative builds, that’s game knowledge, but its not skill.
obviously aoe shouldn’t be removed but could do with a change.
From reading this thread , it comes up that maybe removing the 5 cap limit would make a difference to helping break up zergs. I am not sure. If they removed the 5 cap limit they would have to massively reduce the damage that individual aoe’s do.
Might have to separate wvwvw from spvp ( ive played a lot of both) so that spvp isn’t too adversely affected.
Perhaps combo fields that do aoe damage should be introduced , raising the skill cap required for effective aoe bombing. But right now, its really frustrating watching the stack on tag and attack tactic that allows for nearly mindless zerging or hammer trains.

I know they said something about never closing servers, but man, they really have to do something to help the lower ones out.
Have you tried it out as a commander? I feel like if im up front being a commander im going to get a ton of focus fire.
Or has anyone actually field tested specs.
Also thanks isanemaniac ill have a look at this.
I’ve been running hgh power for a while now, I like it because its good for 1on1 and good in big fights with the grenades. BUT, I have found myself commanding a bit lately, and hgh engy is a bit squishy, so I am wondering if anyone has good engy commander builds, maybe using elixir gun or flamethrower, or the elixir x.
I’d also like some ideas on what stats to run, runes, sigils. Maybe there are other engie commadners who have some luck w this.
God I wish wvwvw had a separate pvp tab to pve for spec and abilities.
If u want small fights but no empty, t3 to t5.
