I am betting it is a rather small part of their income. Their 1% whales would have bought most of theirs by now, and new players were scared off by the horrible NPE. Their weekly sales and new flavours are what make them their money.
Yeah, except for the fact that the vast majority of the people shouting about the “horrible NPE” are veteran players that knew how the system was before, thus had something to compare to.
Based on actual in-game experience however I see plenty of new people running around. And yes, their weekly sales do indeed make them money. But it is also rather silly to claim that they make no money off bank and bag slots.
You also still refuse to come up with what they should add to the store instead in order to replace the loss of income from removing the gem cost of bank and bag slots.
Who is saying they make no money from selling space? Why did you falsely create that, and then bring it up multiple times?
I do not have to come up with a substitute. They can do that if they want. Saying someone has to have a solution to bring up a problem is absolutely ridiculous.
Nope. The price will go up at the slightest mention of a new use for damask. Also, Silverwastes is getting less and less populated as times goes on.
Claiming that it would not impact business is quite silly.
Removing a rather large part of their income (and yes, I would say that it is rather likely that bank and bag-space is a rather large part of their gem store sales) WILL impact the income. There is no company in their right mind that would remove one source of income without replacing it with another source that gives as much or more income.
No one said it would not impact their business, so no idea why you said that…
I am betting it is a rather small part of their income. Their 1% whales would have bought most of theirs by now, and new players were scared off by the horrible NPE. Their weekly sales and new flavours are what make them their money.
Sometimes I think ANet shouldn’t have put in the gold to gems option. It seems to make some people feel entitled to free stuff.
Are there even any non subscription based MMOs that give away free bank and inventory slots? If there are MMOs that give away free bank slots, I would bet the people are paying a monthly subscription fee. It’s the subscription fee that allows those MMOs to give away stuff. It’s not reasonable to expect a game without a subscription fee to have the same features. One way or another, they have to have income.
Oh I am sorry. I did not know wanting space to cost a static amount of gold meant free. Next time I will check with you on whether gold is a real currency in the game or not, before I post.
The reason why bank and extra bag is behind gem store.
Gold is so much easier to gain nowadays than launch, but cost for gold convert to gem (that means getting gem store item for free) is increased a lot as well. Therefore, the longer the game life, the more expensive gold to gem cost, on the other hand, it is so much easier to pay cash to buy gem than getting it for free.
If bag and bank space become fixed gold cost, the longer a player stays, the easier they get the item for free. This is the reason why Astral said people are asking for free stuff.
Well he is completely wrong. Also, how much gold can you gain now, compared to 1 year ago? It is probably less.
Might look up what completely wrong means. When I started one gold was a good amount for an hour (personally). Now ten gold is fairly common in an hour.
Ok? That has absolutely no relevance to what I said. But nice one!
Shakes head walks away.
Thank you for your random input. Next time follow the stuff you are quoting. Here:
- Astral believes anything that costs gold is ‘free’.
- Astral is completely wrong.gold is free, anyone play the game gain gold…
unless, you pay credit card for gold, beware what you’ve revealed….
any item with fixed in game gold is more or less free, because anyone play the game with their own pace, can gather enough gold sooner or later without spending a real world penny. That equal to free in a longer term.
As for gem, the more player convert gold to gem, the less player buy gem for gold, it is the reason why gem is expensive to buy with gold. If the Item cost gem, means the later you buy it, the more gold it cost you. (This is the reason of this thread) This make either players with a lot of free time (able to play a lot for a lot of gold: play to win) or players able to pay with credit card (pay for time). This is a well balanced system imo.
Using your time does NOT mean free. Do you work for free?
I doubt it is possible to calculate the impact. People might just spend the gems elsewhere, more people might stick around, crazy trading post elitists might quit in protest at ‘free’ space, etc.
If they can somehow show that their business will be severely impacted, they could always drastically reduce the gem cost. They would then sell a lot more.
Oh I forgot about crab toss. That is worse.

2nd worst thing they have added, behind the NPE.
If you are power farmer it should only take you a couple of weeks to get the gold for an extra bag slot. If you are not a power farmer then the extra bag slot merely allows you to a bit lazier.
It should also be noted that the Silverwastes is very easy on bag space thanks to most of the loot being in containers, so the idea that this is some sort of cynical pay to win scheme is even more absurd.
Convenience items like this being in the gem store where a lot of players are encouraged to occasionally put in less than they would for a sub. fee is a much better system that the “lucky dip” boxes where they encourage a small percentage of “whales” with poor impulse control to buy an absurd number of gems.
Not against the gem store leeching money from people with more money than sense, but space should never have been a gemstore item. Even though it was fine when the game launched (when I bought everything), it is ridiculously cost prohibitive now and needs to be changed.
‘Hey new player! Save for a month and you can get a bag slot!’
Yeah, so awesome…
So. Stop at nearest NPC vendor. Sell Junk. Salvage all unwanted salvagable items. Send mats to collection. If you don’t want to salvage the sell those unwanted items on the TP, no need to even visit a TP location. Now it’s only a problem if you want to keep all those items, for some reason. Other than ascended mats which are account bound, what do you need to keep for a rainy day? Skins go into the wardrobe now. Maybe BLSKs and a handful of GS items you get from the login rewards. I ran over a year with the original 30 bank slots and none of my characters have added bag slots.
I guess I’m doing something wrong.
No, you’re doing it exactly right. Your problem is the assumption that if the advantage is small enough, it no longer exists, and also failing to admit that. That is also the problem of the guy who replied to you.
Man, you guys would have fun playing Destiny, where all the weapons’ kill times are balanced to within milliseconds of each other, well, except for the part where those milliseconds count. Same as in this game when it comes to making lots of gold and making lots of gold fast.
I never said it was a bad thing, so stop replying to me assuming that I’m being negative just because I called it pay-to-win. Try again, or don’t reply to me. Either way, whatever. you have yet to prove yourself right in any way.
1) Some pretty wild assumptions in your numbers.
2) The best looking skins cost no money to get. in fact they cannot be purchased with either gems or gold.
1. If it takes 10 minutes of hard event running to fill your inventory, it will take twice as long to fill an inventory twice that size. The actual length of time it takes to fully fill your inventory is irrelevant (so is the gold amount) and its sad that that’s what your clinging to. Even if it took 3 days to fill my inventory, the numbers show that the person with a larger inventory will still have a small advantage. No wild assumption there. Try again.
2. The best looking skins to YOU cost no money to get. For me, last I checked, a Mjolnir costs a hell of a lot to get. Try again.
It does not since it take afew seconds for you to salvage and be on your merry way, also there is heart vendors litteraly everywere except afew high level zones.
Literally everywhere would mean the game is nothing but heart vendors…
And yeah, the zones where all the money is made have none. EotM also has none.
As for salvaging, with the sheer amount of salvagable crap Anet throws at us these days, you need an infinite kit or your space is once again owned.
(edited by dietzero.3514)
This is not a NPE thing, it’s been in place since launch.
You can’t send more money than you have looted at a time. (Not TP, not vender, not dungeons, straight up looted a few copper at a time)
That is absolutely ridiculous.
It was fine before they decided greens/blues should rain from the sky and there should be 800 currencies that don’t go into the currency tab and every mob should have 18 different types of bags/boxes/satchels it could drop.
I feel sorry for anyone without maxed bank/bag slots.
Yeah. Silverwastes…
So these people who are ok with slaughtering millions of humanoids and creatures in game, are not ok with ‘dark’ themes.
…
…
k
did bag or gem price even raised?
Cash to gem cost remains the same since launch. New player do not have a lot of gold, will they convert hard earned gold to gem? Maybe not.
The system is there to ensure no matter how gem to gold cost, the cost to buy gem store item by cash remains .
For players that don’t have time to earn gold, this is the best way for them to keep up with the players that have a lot of time.
So borderline pay to win.
Thats play to win, players that have a lot of time to play can pay nothing to buy gem. On the other hand players that have a life to run need to buy gem with money. Both side do not gain any advantages over another group. Its a matter of money/free time. This is or isn’t pay to win, doesn’t matter.
It is the best business model to a lot of players.
That is pay to win.
This game is about collecting things. Space is vital. Also having to stop and sell/salvage less in trains/farming/whatever is a very large advantage.

1 gold at a time! Hahahaha! That must have sucked.
In short: PvP
How is this an NPE issue? That safe guard has been in since the beginning to help stop RMT. After he plays for a while he’ll be able to send the gold back.
He has been playing about a month he said.
Currently having to buy ~1000 gold worth of gems to max bank tabs and ONE character’s bag slots is ridiculous.
While that’s a high number, that’s also, in my estimation, an enormous amount of storage space. While I don’t doubt that some players will use (or want to use) that much, I wouldn’t expect that to be typical.
As alternatives to paying for expanded storage in gems, I’d recommend making a storage guild and, especially, filling out your alts with 18/20-slot bags.
I have filled out an entire storage guild. It is not hard. I wonder more how people who actually play the game get by without space.
How the heck many inventory slots do you need?!
You can make your own guild and store things in the guild bank for just a few gold (buy the influence). And use your other characters as banks too of course.
If you really really need more than that… well Anet made it a hefty cost for a reason. You are that reason.
Anet are throwing more and more little items at us, and space is getting more scarce. Also, you must only have a single set for a single character, to not need space.
It should start low and scale higher, the more you buy. Linking something as critical as space to gems is severely punishing to new players and people with multiple characters/accounts, and the problem is only going to get worse. A static gold cost is a far better option.
Currently having to buy ~1000 gold worth of gems to max bank tabs and ONE character’s bag slots is ridiculous.
Mordrem are much more difficult to fight as d/d. Staff is the way to go. They just smash melee and have A LOT of health.
Second worst thing they have added to GW2 (worst being NPE).
I have nothing to spend Laurels on, so making them farmable in unlimited quantities is a horrible idea. Even after spending them on the Mystery Cat Tonic, and Ascended stuff, I have a pile that just sits there.
I think the best choice you could have made is not quit playing. Just because you decided to return to the game, you’re not Entitled to catching up for all the lost time you chose to lose.
Why do you always capitalise entitled?
It goes back to the old BLTC forums and many, many discussions there. I would suggest looking at smooth penguin post history and those archived threads for some good reading.
Smooth has a good way of cutting to the heart of the matter in an entertaining manner, which in the BLTC forum usually revolved around people feeling Entitled to things that the rest of the players had to work for.
So he is a troll? Got it.
As a Sylvari Player… No. Are you out of your kittening mind? How about we leave the mature content out a game that’s accessable to children, we already have enough of them running around screaming about murdering people over their skin color and sexual preferences (ala COD and DayZ).
And it was a Gods kitten ed bad idea to give into the Sylvari are Dragonspawn Theory because now you’re just going to see more of this crap in chat about how “Sylvari are less than people.”
If this is the friendliest community in gaming, then it really paints a bad picture.
Wow…
It refers to Rytlock’s heart, after his love Logan was lost when the Pact fleet went down.

Your title is just wrong. You like a game, you are not coming out in the 90s.

Um, Rytlock would never cheat on Logan. That is an obvious lie.
What does Rule 34 mean?
Case in point.
He constantly trolled the horrible Black Lion forums, and was largely responsible for making them a useless cesspool.

Sorry, I got the abilities wrong. It has a 30 minute cooldown and a 1 hour one. The 30 minute one gives 1 second of a fire shield, while the 1 hour one kills all Engineers and Teragriffs on a map. Same for all attunements.
Tried it. Sucks. Does not even blast distant fields. Dropped it.
I’m a time traveller and I can confirm this is true.
Sad news although is that OP goes bald
Ahahahaha!
Odd choice of words.
It is an offhand only torch. 5 minute cooldown abilities.

Some might be? But not all I believe. At least for Necromancer.
Necromancer using Greatsword is an art that is currently developed at least by Marjory. So I am sure there will be lore background, but not all Maguuma-themed.
Don’t forget Trahern
Oh yeah. Had not thought of that.

I love that video. Always cracks me up.
I didn’t find her that obnoxious going to prevent Eir from being killed in Honor of the Waves. I found her incredibly obnoxious in Twilight Arbor, however. And incredibly gullible early in her life too, apparently.
I mean, seriously, look at how long it took before she had even a bit of problem with Faolain’s little “issue”. Gah. And people call Logan the fool cluelessly in love.
The Firstborn should be naive, though.
She still needs to pay.
That spoon collection has actually ruined a large portion of my experience. Im sick to death of it, I wish it was never put in.
The bone spoon is of exotic quality, therefore it dilutes the drop table for other exotics from Tequatl. Prior to the spoon’s release, I would get an exotic every 2-3 runs of Tequatl. Since the spoon released, I have not received an exotic, even a Rune of The Sunless.
The Siege Master’s spoon makes me rue every day of my life every time I go to my bank and see it, because it is bugged. I have the god-infernal spoon, but for some reason, it is not unlocking in the collection.
I believe the Teq spoon is an extra addition, and does not take any loot spot. At least, the nerds on here said so. You only get the spoon if no exotic dropped for you. It is a bonus.
Hopefully we’ll be moving on to forks with HoT. Nobody eats salad with a spoon, after all.
You need to meet my dad.

The new profession is Mists themed. So nope, no jungle there.
I want to kill Caithe
She at least needs to be held accountable for everything that has happened. Forcing us to divert from the Pact fight AND not telling Trahearne or us about the true nature of the Sylvari before the fight. She is responsible for everything.
Yes, I am annoyed that Caithe has been giving us the runaround, but if she hadn’t kept us distracted on this side mission (that is equally important to the Pact attack), we would’ve been on the airships that were destroyed. In a roundabout way, she saved us from that fate. Still not happy about it, but it’s something. And you can bet she will have a very good reason why she’s doing it.
Not really. Sylvari would not have gone on that mission if she had just told the pact commander and her brother what she knew. Send the Sylvari pact members to hold Jormag and crystalface back, while they work out how to stop Mordremoth from mindcontrolling them. They cannot be corrupted by the other dragons, so would be great at this.

I’m going to guess no. Being specialized, only in the Deep Jungle, wouldn’t make any sense as far as progression. If you can complete new masteries in the core game, you should also be able to progress specialization in the core game.
That’s like saying a priest is only a priest in the church, but at night he roams the streets as a superhero hooker.
While charming, it wouldn’t go over well either. And I sincerely hope specialization of any class isn’t restricted to the jungle.
That would be just stupid.
Themed, bro. Themed.
For those curious. Weapons are based on buy orders. Light armor jumped up 30 gold within the past week.
2-handers 40 gold cheaper than two 1-handers, and light armour 100 gold more than medium. Anet need to hire an economist.
