These weren’t suggestions silvermember. I’m making fun of the notion brought up time and time again that raking in money on the TP is somehow unfair to those that “play the game”.

The countless threads wanting more ways to filter the not LEET from joining your party. The threads complaining that you can’t sell your loot on the TP fast enough to get back to your next speedrun/boss train stop. The threads that insist that the most desirable items should only be dropped from the hardest content so only those “worthy” can get them. The threads asking for super tough content. The threads asking for mounts to show off on. The threads on how the new wardrobe devalues legendary weapons allowing them to be skinned onto lesser weapons over and over again. The threads complaining how expensive it is now to get free gems to buy exclusive skins.

They all dovetail together into a picture of a player who is upset that the game is unfair to the talented player, by allowing the untalented (in their eyes) to succeed. A player who values their appearance as a way to establish their skill who gets upset because others can achieve it without the same dedication.

Maybe this goes back to WoW style repetitive raiding until you “put in your dues” and get a full set of BIS for your character, thereby establishing this notion between BIS gear and ability level. If people can buy BIS gear, or the look of BIS gear, that destroys this notion. This leads to wanting to see AP, gear stats, trait picks, etc of other players because you can’t simply look at and judge. It leads to threads where players are upset that other players are earning more doing activities that they see as not core gameplay, ie bopping things on the head.

And some of these notions have popped up in this thread as well. That wealth is “unfairly” distributed across the player base. That it’s the wealthy’s fault that prices go up and that gems cost so much now. And how did they get so wealthy? Well it must be because they are filthy flippers who control the market and ratchet prices up just to see if they can. “Burn him, he’s a flipper!” hysteria.

I’m neither LEET or a flipper. I simply enjoy playing an hour or two and I feel that I earn enough for what I want. I’m patient. I place bids if I want something or price my own sell orders to sell off the night’s haul. 99.9% of everything sells in 24 hours and I’m earning 10-20% on top of those who sell to highest bidder. These are observations from reading this and the GW2 Discussion board.

I’m not suggesting fixes because I don’t see a problem. If the price spikes the first thing I check is it’s chart to see what supply and demand did. I don’t call every bubble inflation. Is there inflation? Yes. But it’s not what’s happening 9 out of 10 times someone drops that word.

+10 to that.

I’m so sick and tired of the people here that seem to want another EQ-Style game here where only 0,5% of the player can get the currently best items so that they can show up how leet they are .. and of course (even if they always say they are not interested in non-raid content) can farm all lower content waaaaay much better.

I’m somebody who really play a lot, but since i simply hate raiding i was always somebody who simply “hasn’t earned it” to get the better stuff.

I came to GW2 exactly for the reason that i can get here best armor and most skins without beeing forced to do raids in any way. And i really wish all these elitist kinds of players would leave and go to Wildstar or whatever instead of bringing the devs to give us things like ascended and Teq 2.0

These 2 hit it on the head, and Anet has included fight specific rewards like the Teq Weapons or specific minis. So go get your leet gear and rewards.

average player for a long time, no matter how skilled they are, or how good they are at anything in the game aside from gold making activities.

Once the average player is skilled at something, he will make more gold than the average player.

I also think the highest aim in a game is fun, not gold.

Rare and expensive drops also benefit the average player because once they get one, they ARE rich.

There are players that run dungeons way faster then me and make much more gold from them than I do. They are much better at it than I am. People also have learned to farm black lion keys and I have no idea, or interest in how to do that quickly. These are examples of people who have gotten proficient at these tasks and make more money than I do at them.

Wanze is better at playing the TP than I am, so it would stand to reason he has more skill than I do at that task just like the examples above show others who are better at other tasks or aspects of the game.

Wow. Just wow. After reading this entire thread I’m just amazed. This is probably the worst thread that I has seen that has so many uninformed responses trying to pose as informed, so many responses committing logical fallacies such as distorting someone’s responses or diverting attention to some nonsensical point, responses from people grasping at real life scenarios and distorting them to fit their viewpoint and this game (meaningful snip)

I like the “do you have an understanding of economy attitude”.

If you have an understanding of society and mmorpg. We whine and complain about grind and unevenly wealth distribution. “just like in real life too”

well the pool people complain, the rich people just laugh at them. The government keep telling people they are doing a great job. And they do what best for the economy, which really just mean people in power trying to get rich so they don’t care about poor people and wealth distribution.

The moral of story, is people complain. You think there is something wrong with people complaining?

well, there is probably nothing wrong with the economy, but there sure is nothing wrong with people complaining. Because you know… every single labor force complain about their minimum wages. Even people in Sweden complain about it.

Ill leave this edit here.

snip terrible idea

that would make huge NA queues for the lower population servers and still result in the t1 server dominating because of off NA coverage.

I don’t think it would have larger queues than we see now if it were implemented properly.

EOTM has far larger groups than what I am proposing.

Adding a map to the mix would help immensely as well.

Terrible idea? What’s yours?

Stop negating another’s idea without at least presenting one that at least adds to the possibility of a better WvW.

hmm….

It would cause queues during NA on all servers.

EOTM has overflows and is cross-server so it cannot have queues…

yes, terrible idea because it would cause queues for NA on all servers but the PPT win for the week is decided by off NA hours like I said. The only servers with competitive off NA WvW population is T1. That means coverage for the 16 hours of the day not 5P-1A server time. This person doesn’t get it either.

2. Servers literally join together to only the top 6 and all the players abandon anything below rank 6 alltogether. For example, all of SF transfers to SOS, or whichever of the top 6 has least NA coverage, etkittenerally. Just abandon all lower servers.

Again, doing this would create T1 queues for NA but the matches would still be decided by OFF-NA COVERAGE which is currently located on BG,SOS,TC and they all still have huge coverage gaps during the day. The truth is, if a server is being spawn camped you need to drive the enemy forces back. The dev’s, the forums, noone can do this for you or your server. If your server cannot get the coordination together or the population together to do that their is a flaw in your server and you either accept it as a flaw and work to change it or you transfer.

People here seem to have an issue differentiating between inflation in an economy and the natural effects of supply/demand on specific items.

doesnt really matter what the word for it is, The point is, items people want keep rising at a higher rate than thier earnings. If it was real inflation, only people who mostly save would be upset.

I mean it helps to be using the same terms in a discussion, but the heart of communication is figuring out what the person intends to say, or feels.

How can one properly communicate if the words don’t matter? I have no responsibility in trying to decipher what someone else is trying to say when they wont even put forth the effort to say it correctly.

I would argue that the “heart of communication” is properly phrasing your statements so all can understand what you are saying. If one does not have the knowledge or background on the subject material then they should refrain from sharing their uneducated opinions on said subject.

Communication is a two way street, they may be wrong for using the wrong words, but you arent helping by not looking for what they are trying to say. So while its valid to correct them, its not productive to stop your desire to understand at that moment. How in the world would any one communicate in such a rigid system? Word use and ideas differ from subculture to subculture, proffession to profession, language to language. worlds also evolve and change with time, and with changes in the field of study.
This is why people tend to use more than just a few words to communicate an idea, because it makes it less likely that using one word the party doesnt understand, or misunderstands, does obscure the meaning completely.

Lastly, its a false premise that somene who doesnt share the same vocabulary as you knows less or has less understanding of an issue than you, or cant make valid observations. Its a classic mistake for academics to think this way.

So, Im going to address the claim that I am an Acedemic with a hearty BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

In response to “you arent helping by not looking for what they are trying to say.” I will leave my first post here.

People here seem to have an issue differentiating between inflation in an economy and the natural effects of supply/demand on specific items.

I think that post was much more helpful than you telling everyone that

doesnt really matter what the word for it is

You see I was trying to educate people who kept making WRONG statements over and over again. I never stopped trying to understand what was being said. I can sum up my opinion on what people are saying in this thread with the following,

if there is an issue to be addressed with the price of certain items on the TP then they will be addressed by Anet with loot table adjustment or some farm event. But no matter what, high demand/ low supply items will always be expensive. This is what I keep reading people complaining about. But it is not INFLATION. It never has been and never will be. ever.

Inflation: a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money.

There has been and will be inflation in GW2. Always and forever because there is always going to be players playing the game and infusing new gold(rewards) into the economy. To this end the hoarders who have the 50k stockpiles of gold in their banks and such are actually responsible for slowing down the rate of inflation in GW2 by removing that active capital from the economy.

There’s really nothing wrong with 1c undercutting and I’m always FAR more irritated by people undercutting by large amounts than I am by small amounts.
Anyone trying to decide between undercutting me by 1c or 20s, please choose 1c, for the love of god.

in high velocity markets a large price drop like that will usually mean a corresponding spike in price is coming and your listing will be bought up

Yeah, I’m not saying it won’t be bought up, the issue is the price instability that this causes and the negative impact it has on inexperienced buyers. It happens to me multiple times a day every day and you either just wait it out or relist and take a bit of a hit for the sake of liquidity, but people doing this sort of undercutting for any reason besides genuine error have a very poor understanding of what effect it has.

I think they know exactly what they are doing. They are saying to you “get out of my market” and they hope the effect is you find another.

If you are lazy and have terrible memory, i wouldnt advice you to play the TP.

This was useful. You will only lose gold if you try to play the tp with those qualities of laziness and forgetfulness.

edit: Playing the tp effectively requires hours of research when you are getting started. I have 40-50 markets I play around with based on the cost of mats and what I have stocked up on. But making the right decisions are based off experience and knowing the trends that have already happened through research.

For example: I was crafting lemongrass for a while. I followed the price of mats on spidy and would buy low in bulk and then craft when the pots were priced high. I got lucky at one point though. When i was checking all the different materials I noticed that rosemary was really cheap(66c) and I had remembered that it had been really high during season 1. I bought a metric kittenton and quadrupled my investment. But I would never have caught that without my memory or if I was lazy and didnt check the websites available.

2. The only person who inst an under-cutter is the person who posted the highest price. This person usually bought up all the stock to put it at that high price point. So you are saying you would rather give gold to a market manipulator then to other players.

thick leather sections

Figures, I go and refine allllll my leather in squares, and most of that into Ascended items, and then this happens. Maybe if I delete all my bloodstone and bloodstone sink will show up

This is actually a smart thing to do, if you want to speculate on prices of t2-5 leather to rise in price (unless you sell them right away).

If low tier leather rises in price, so will Elonian Leather, which will use way less storage space.
If you consider that you need 250 various leather sections to craft 1 EL Square, you can basically store 62500 leather sections within your collectible tab for ELS.
Thats pretty neat.

And if you started crafting your daily Spool of Thick Elonian Cord with your huntsman since asc weaponcrafting went live, you will actually have 250 of those right about now.

No, you would have about half that because you sold most of them off when the spinal backpieces spiked the price.

Modified Swiss system to fix WvW tournaments

in WvW

Posted by: eithinan.9841

Jeebus. The swiss system is built upon the premise that it sorts the unseeded participants throughout the duration of the tournament based on performance. The idea that there is already an established rating structure shows how bad the swiss system is for a short(9 rounds) 3 way competition between 6-9 servers. The swiss system would be perfect for seeding and placing all NA or EU servers and running the duration. but then there would be a huge outcry over horrible match-ups(JQ/MAGS/HOD) and everyone from rank 4 and lower would be outraged because WvW = coverage.

He is working under the assumption that PvE players would not want this. I don’t quite think the correlation between PvE players DO NOT want wvw gear to be salvaged because dungeon gear can be salvaged really works. WvW a measure of server pop not overall skill

in WvW

Posted by: eithinan.9841

eithinan.9841

There is already a solution to combat population imbalances: 2v1.

I heard it works quite well.

The 2v1 only works to shut down a stronger server if the 2 servers can reasonably match coverage as well, both primetime and off hours. The real issue with the t1 2v1 is that map population caps prevent the focused server from having the numbers to compete against what is being lined up against them.

160>80 (or whatever the map pop cap is)

Two t2 servers may be able to 2v1 a t1 server on home bl with full map blobs but the t2 servers lack of coverage would leave their home bl defenseless against the t1 blob there. T1 can queue all maps throughout primetime, T2 cannot.

When can we expect to have the restricted gear unrestricted (with regards to salvaging) or some other option to get upgrades out of substandard gear?

If this is your core question, your topic title is misleading.

The topic title is the conclusion drawn by myself and many others who can do math with regards to Gold-Gem conversion. The main body of the post is positioning statement. The core question addresses a viable solution to that problem and gives the devs an opportunity to simply say “never” and allow many in the community to dispose of the substandard gear and move on, in what ever way they choose.

lol, Wanze quibbling about my topic name :/ You have to have more behind your position than this. Why dont you share what effect the changes would have on the TP in your view. I find a lot of your insight to be of value if not always spot on.

You dont need to open a new thread on a topic that already has a dedicated feedback thread that is monitored by Anet. Its obsolete because Anet already has plenty ways to inform us, if they have anything to say on this subject.
Personally, i dont oppose what you are suggesting, i have an exotic temple set with melandru runes myself, that i would like to use on my next ascended set. I would love to hear some news but i simply think that this topic will not provide it.

If you want to read my opinion on how salvageable karma gear would affect the economy, go ahead and open a new topic about it. I wont post it in a thread that is named “extractor overpriced” and demands answers from devs.

LoL. I dont demand an answer. I cant control anyone and certainly have no leverage to force someone, specifically the dev’s, to do anything. I feel I am giving the devs an opportunity to simply clear up some confusion as to what people should do with outdated gear that is not cost effective to use an extractor on.

I am sad that you keep going back to the “this is the same topic as elsewhere” I think I proved my case on that subject earlier. This topic is specifically related to the BLTC, not wardrobe.

Besides this, the topic itself is something that would be discussed internally at Anet and not publicly on the forums. [snip]

I hope there has been discussion on this topic as well as the other threads peripherally related to this one.

It’s a wardrobe/transmutation issue and belongs in a thread set up by the devs for that subject.

You can throw a kitten about it if you want, but it won’t change anything. Numerous threads have been closed with a moderator note to the effect of “post your comments in the appropriate feedback thread.” No one but other players are going to respond here, and the devs responsible for collecting feedback about the issue probably won’t even visit this forum.

If you want to get snippy [snip]

I disagree, It is an extractor/upgrade/economy issue not related to wardrobe/transmutations(charges, no more stones)/outfits which with the new update is entirely cosmetic and has nothing to do with the functionality of the actual gear or upgrades added to it.

I honestly dont feel I am throwing a “kitten”, which probably offends me more than whatever the filter censored. I am playfully responding to the bad troll attempts and wanze to pass time. I also feel like I’m riding the proverbial bull here trying to keep this thread from veering off course from the original question which is,

When can we expect to have the restricted gear unrestricted (with regards to salvaging) or some other option to get upgrades out of substandard gear?

Nothing about the cosmetics of the gear, nothing about the wardrobe, nothing about transmutation charges, and nothing about carebear outfits. The implications of what I ask would have an effect on the economy which is why I posted this specific question to this section(BLTC) of the forums.

Instead of trying to veer this topic off course why don’t we discuss what type of effect this could have on the tp if they decided to make karma and wvw gear unrestricted. I already mentioned the ectos and melandru runes, I doubt any other t6 mat market would be touched significantly. If the gear gave soldier/rabid/whatever noncraftable insignias and inscriptions would it really touch those markets or would people still be able to pull nice little flips off those over the course of a week? Basically would the extra supply close those price gaps and steady the market with a constant stream of materials? I doubt it. That market is already flooded with dungeon token salvages that it wouldn’t really affect anything.

Link to “dedicated feedback thread” please. I cant seem to find it. Is there a topic open where the dev’s state one way or the other something is going to be done about this for us to give feedback on? If you are referring to the wardrobe feedback thread then I do not believe this applies to wardrobe as much as it does to economy(based on some of the things you have said wanze) and WVW.

I already had one thread on this topic moved from here to the WvW forums to never be seen again because it mentioned wvw in the title, so I figured I would try this forum again but with a direct question hoping against hope for an answer. Even a simple “never” would free me up to dispose of the different gear and be annoyed and move on.

1 Calling out a specific employee is against the rules – calling out the Anet devs in general almost never gets a response. [snip] 2 People in such a state are not usually offering constructive criticism or interested in polite discussion. [snip]

3 Also, you cannot control who posts on the forums. [snip]

4 They already have a thread dedicated to collecting feedback about this issue.

1 no specific employee is mentioned nor am I “calling out” anyone.

2 I have no interest in responding whatsoever. What I am interested in is Anet taking a position on the issue.

3 Please dont put words in my mouth. At no point am I asking anyone not to post here. The only response to this post that matters though is the one that gives this little thread a new icon to the side.

4 link it and show me where anet specifically addresses if/when these items will be salvagable and/or the extractor will have its price lowered.

OP, you couldn’t add your voice to one of the existing threads on the subject, you had to create your very own? Or the official wardrobe feedback on the discussion board?

I’ll grant you that wardrobe feedback thread is overly broad. They should have made more feedback threads than lumping several major changes into one.

I asked a simple direct question unmuddied by other discussion for the dev’s to answer. This was the point of this thread.

Something should be done to allow the runes to be salvaged, but allowing karma and WvW gear to be salvaged in the same manor as equivalent non-karma/WvW gear would allow a large quantity of Ectoplasm (and other items) to be introduced.

Yes, Ecto’s are one of the very few markets that would be affected. they would lower in price. Runes of Melandru as well as a few others. But the people who are against the mats being recovered are simply invested in the markets and dont want to lose their potential profits.
