Can we re-evaluate the stability change?

in WvW

The changes to stability have made it harder to fight a group that outnumbers you. This may seem like how it should be to some people but what it really means is that game mechanics have nerfed skill and group coordination.

In the past an organized, skilled group of 25 could fight an unorganized group almost double their numbers to a standstill or victory. This is not the case now because the CC will overwhelm them. I dont mind that stability is a stacking mechanic but the rates for group stability is geared towards small scale fighting. fighting numbers that large means a frontline has to burn all of its cooldowns to just push into the enemy.

I remember back when people would sit in a ball and share boons and buffs while ranging the other group before the dps and boon aoe cap. That was not fun dynamic combat and neither is this,

Forcing a minimum increment to the bids would just make it easier to manipulate the market.

This was explained years ago in the old black lion trading forums here.

Thanks Wanze, this is why you have 100’s of thousands of gold and i only have 10’s, laziness :P

For anyone offering suggestions to this please please read that thead and see if your idea has been offered already and the reasons why it wont work. Bring an educated opinion to the discussion.

Charged Lodestone Price balancing

Here is a quite from JS the game economist about price inequality of mats of the same tiers:

You don’t micromanage markets to maintain equilibrium. Not only is it an incredible amount of work you can never be wrong in, it’s not physically possible inside a live game environment.

You assume that absolute parity is required inside of tiers, I don’t necessarily agree.

I’m not here to play mini wall street. I am here to have fun and build cool skins. Why does every game these days try to run their economy like real life and force all of the wealth the one small portion of the population. It is ridiculous and disturbing. Even in games we can’t escape the rich getting richer by ripping off everybody else.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. You are yelling about the in game wealth gap but charged lodestone price is a simple result of high demand. People dont complain about the cost of the other lodestones, not because they are priced “correctly”, but because they have less of a demand.

As to the rich getting richer comment, once a player has gotten 1k gold and a good stock of mats and a few sets of ascended to swap around, what more do you really need? And how does someone who has basically removed 10’s of thousands worth of currency from the economy hurt you? Answer on that last one, they dont. they actually help you by keeping inflation in check.

To waypoint or not to WP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

eithinan.9841

Well I dunno how it works… But I usually WP on bosses if I die.

But I was thinking, this game is alot about teamwork without having to be in groups. When it is better to WP out than to be rezzed and getting in to the fray again I think the mechanic is broken. We (In my opinion) are supposed to be helping eachother and rez players who are down SO I just now have been thinking about a few chamges to the rezzing to encurrage Rezzing the dead.

So first of all, these two ideas requires that the fights DO NOT scale down when a players maps out to a near WP, only if they log out or WP to another map.

1. You know there are food you can eat that gives a buff to the rezzer and the rezzed, what if there is a buff that you always get for rezzing a dead. A buff that improves the rezzers and the rezzed with a small %. This will make people rez more. Though this can be exploited but maby it is an idea to start with.

2. Rezzing dead players will give the rezzers “medic points” that you can use later on to trade in for loot (Like the reward track in PvP). Dunno if it will work but that would encurage players to rezz dead players. Also something that can get exploited but I just thought of these two so their aint much planning behind it.

Anyway, in my opinion people should rez dead players even if it costs alot of DPS becouse this game is about teamplay and it has such a good community. Comming from a guy who rarely rezzes dead players in boss fights.

No. to all of this. It is a nice sentiment you have here but the game mechanics and math strongly disagree.

Rezzing the dead is a waste of DPS when with timed fights and scaling you need it. you dont break even with the DPS loss unless the person who was rezzed from fully dead survives and maintains constant DPS for the next 30-40 seconds because the people who rezzed spent time doing nothing.

[Suggestion] Damage Cap skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: eithinan.9841

eithinan.9841

Only damage cap now in effect is Weakness.

Weakness denies crits and fumbles 50% from all hits having them do 50% dmg. Unrestricted.

Using weakness on enemies woould be usefull for obvious reasons, though (World) bosses are less vulnerable

Dealing 50% less damage isn’t the same as not being able to deal more than 10% of the target’kitten points. The first one can be ignored with high enough damage, same as healing or protection. The second one cannot be ignored at all, and requires either the removal of that “buff”, or adopting a completely different build, one that is not based on burst damage.

To waypoint or not to WP

The issue that was addressed above is the only issue here that matters between a good or bad run.

Whether the dead scale the boss or not the people rezzing certainly count towards scaling and are not doing their share of the DPS. I believe that the dead don’t count towards scaling based on…

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_event#Event_scaling

“Events can detect that players have not performed any actions relating to the event within a period of time and will scale down the event accordingly.”

That being said, it will usually take longer for someone (or a couple of people) in combat to rez a dead person than it would for that dead person to waypoint and run back.

this was the second post in this thread.

you are in the way when you dont WP when dead. But thats it.

People seem to be missing the fact that “playing how you want” does not automatically include “to the benefit of others.”

Selfish builds exist, but they do not help in dungeons. The whole problem that this “zerker meta waaah” stems from is backlash against players that have not realized the above disconnect between “playing how you want” and “playing to the benefit of others”, join an instance where the latter is top priority, get kicked for not adhering to it, then somehow reason that they should not have been kicked because the game allows them to “play how they want.”

It’s kind of painfully simple when you look at it objectively. All of the threads, the posts, the complaints…. If you are playing a game and someone elses time is invested, do what is beneficial to both of you instead of just thinking about yourself.

This is an eloquent way of saying selfish builds are bad.

The vocal PHIW crowd is the most selfish because they seem to want to nerf the team based, unselfish builds so they are as inefficient as their selfish builds. Or they just don’t care about the lack of synergy they bring to a team, again selfish.

I also find it amusing that people who want the trinity are so vocal about build diversity when every mmo I have played with a hard trinity had 1 build for each classes job and the gear required for it.

2. What I am talking about is since zerk is the most efficient then why do we have 23 choices?

about point 2, it is for build diversity. just because something is efficient doesn’t meant everyone wants a homogenized game experience.

IMO not everyone wants to/can run a speed run setup. I know that scholar runes are the most dps, but I use strength runes because it is much easier for me to have the 5% bonus from might than keep my health above 90%. I also only pug dungeons so I rarely have a perfect guardian for their aegis/reflects.

All the rest of it is traits and upgrade components.

What I have noticed about Guild War’s 2 is ALL the Gold coming into the game comes from the Gem store.

This is 100% false. The majority of gold in game comes from either Dungeon rewards (majority) or selling items to the vendor(all those grey items). Teq gives 2 gold minimum each time it is completed per person. I am sure the 3 headed Worm does a similar amount and other world events give a handful of silver. That is just raw currency rewards right off the top of my head.

BTW, I stopped reading at this point because when someone is SOOOOO wrong in the first couple sentences there is no reason to read the rest of a wall of text like that. IF there are any salient points made they will be repeated later on on a lesser wall.

Yes you are wrong about the 70 AR thing. Weapons have 2 slots for infusions. With them and a couple infused trinkets/backpack you can pull 70 AR without any ascended armor.

Someone did the math and it was substantially cheaper to make a couple +7-9 infusions than a full set of ascended armor.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

i think the expense is sort of fine, i mean it is bis gear.

What’s bad about ascended crafting is the time gate on mats, the requirement to max out all crafts, and the fact that you need ascended for fractals. Ascended crafting is an extremely annoying grind that is not only gated, but also gates end game content. A lot of people say you dont need it so who cares that its a expensive and to most pretty annoying. Thats not really a good reason to not try and improve ascended crafting.

Atm i have crafted two sets of armor, have not yet made weapons but it is my new goal. The problem im having is deciding whether to craft weapons which will cost the most in leveling crafting or to craft my warrior gear so i can finally play a heavy class in fractals….

You should do the weapons. TBH you should have done the weapons first. One weapon set has a larger impact on your characters overall performance than full armor.

My argument it was one person was based on a previous post that one person did it on an alt account. I was questioning why one person would do this. I was aware that it was gold transferred before the change, my post commented on it. The cost, I didn’t calculate myself, it was based on a post by Wanze who said 100k gold.

Anyway, I’m done with this, the last 2 posts show that either people aren’t reading my previous posts or they don’t understand my question which was, why would someone behave in this manner.

I was simply responding to your bad/wrong analogy. The fact is most wealthy people I know in RL have money that is “tied up” and “inaccessible” because it is the best way to get a ROI.

I would think in game that having a substantial amount or most of ones funds on an alt account dedicated to trading would be preferable. Remember that this 500 gold limit is very new.

This is about a specific situation where the gold is locked away and impossible or very difficult to access (as in years to transfer over by sending gold alone).

Umm no. I was responding to your post making assumptions about how wealthy people handle their money. We dont BTW, that stuff is dirty, that’s what the little people are for, let them get their grubby hands dirtier.(joking)

But maybe there are wealthy people out there who live in poor conditions because they deliberately lock all their income away from personal use, except a minimum amount and they carry this behavior over to the game. It’s just that this isn’t usual behavior. People who make money are normally aware that money isn’t just to be tied up and inaccessible but for use when needed.

I was responding to the bold text in particular. This whole paragraph you wrote is about real life money management, not gold in game.

WOW. You literally described me, and my RL finances. Only thing you don’t account for is it is pretty much impossible to lock your own wealth in its entirety away from yourself. One can put restrictions on the access to that money but if I wanted it there is nothing that can prevent me from cashing out, however unwise that decision would be.

People who make money are normally aware that money isn’t just to be tied up and inaccessible but for use when needed.

Money that is “tied up” and “inaccessible” is kinda how building a retirement fund works like a 401k or IRA and any tax penelties involved. I would argue most people who are wealthy have various investments outside of retirement that withdrawing it would be a financial setback because it didn’t mature fully.

I think it’s fair to say that this case is most likely not speculation. Speculation is buying items with the hope that things change due to an “outside” factor/s. Manipulation is the intention to influence change via deliberate action/s.

And what if someone speculates on someone elses manipulation?

You mean exactly how I play the TP?

I already explained what that was above. It’s a relatively risk free profit opportunity that required a massive amount of capital to pull off.

Kudos to whoever managed to do it, mostly because my speculation paid off!

I doubt that who ever bought those chests was successful in unloading enough of them to make a profit.

yet

What’s the point though of having all that gold on an alt account where your main can’t access it? It seems to me a very strange and ultimately futile way of gaining and holding gold, to pile it up in a way that it’s out of use for your main account.

If its an account meant to be a primary trading account I personally would have most of my wealth stashed on it to prevent myself from impulse buys and always have plenty of cash on hand. This whole 500 gold limit wouldn’t be that big an issue for me.

Yes to both.

Good for anyone looking to sell BLC or whoever bought up all the overstock.

Bad for anyone who doesn’t have a massive amount of chests from playing the game and may need one.

I dont’ know why people keep talking about demands.

It’s not like demands drive up the price of black lion chest or mystic coin. People arn’t even crafting legendaries now since they are waiting for the expansion.

Just look at dwayna’s recipe. It stays 20 gold for a whole year, and wintersday spike up more instead of dropping.

It’s not that the demand suddenly spiked. It’s just there are not much supplies entering the economy.

Flippers rule the worlds! Nothing you can do about it. Oh ya, quartz crystal will only go up. No one is doing dry top, and home instance only supply a few a day.

and I don’t know why people keep blaming flippers. If I told you the price of x item will sky rocket tomorrow, you’ll buy it too. Hack, most people complained about flippers probably flip or invest item before in GW2.

Yeah pretty much this. I am also not complaining about the flippers, just pointing this one out. Heck I admitted I played the flip game myself above on quartz above.

There is no manipulation, it’s just the grow lamp. I’m not the only one who try’s to create every day one charged crystal. For them I have to buy 25 quartz each day. Since January I bought 10 Stacks which is 2.500 crystals and that is just ONE player. I’m pretty sure that way more than 1000 player do the same each day.

There you see where millions of crystals went. If Anet won’t add a good farming point for crystals, they will probably raise way more and faster now. (because there are only ~1 million left and the drytop ones aren’t enough to even it)

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/43773

If you widen it out so that you can see mid august 2014, the release date of mawdry and by proxy the grow lamp you can see the balance it had naturally rising from 24c to 50c with a bit of supply shifts similar to what i did. Then that balance got out of whack when from about jan. 12 to feb 12 the supply dropped from 8 million to 5 million on the TP. that effectively removed any monster price walls for it to find a new stability and this also went to draw out hidden stock, but there wasnt that much there it appears reading the graphs from spidey and gw2tp. After that there is a swift increase in price because of the fast decline in price from may of 2014. when a item plummets in price and stays at a low price for a long time it accumulates a ton of “low hanging fruit” .

All it takes is enough gold to break the balance of supply on hand and demand. My guess is that in november 2014 or earlier, there were tp flippers who started buying up the over stock and relisting it higher. That is where the current supply of a little over 1 million sitting there is from mostly.

In conclusion, I am not saying that the price rise is 100% the efforts of some single player or group of players. But that initial catalyst was most definitely speculator driven.

I have talked to you wanze about a few things similar to this, but not nearly on the scale and volume of the transactions needed to pull off the initial 3 million buy out. I would need a lot more data than what is available with the graphs and charts. But even daily purchases/listings/unique buys/unique sells like John gave us for Twilight that one day would clear a few things up. If it was from late Janurary when the buyout happened and a late February when it was steady that would really be interesting I think.

Even regular consumers usually buy in bulk, at least 1 stack, they dont buy 25 each day just because they only need 25 each day. Some propably buy the 2500 they need for a full set at once. Now i dont know how much listings you had at every value but they would have to be substancial, about 50k or so, in order for you to determine, if those 50k were bought out by a whale or just a bunch of consumers that bought multiples of 250 each.

Your listings at 40c disappeared back in november, your listings between 55c-60c disappeared in january. Any data on the last 3 months, where the bulk of the supply went?

I know i checked my sales on celestial gossamer insignias over the last 4 months (took me around 3 hours to count this afternoon) and i sold insignias worth over 2.5 million quartz each month, 86% of those sales were single recipes, which indicates that they were bought by consumers, not investors.

For me, thats a huge indicator that the demand for quartz is in fact substantially higher than the mere 7 million we lost over the last 4 months. We propably consumed hundreds of millions of quartz since the start of the year.

My investment in quartz/charged sheets of ambrite/celestial recipes is propably around 3-4k gold with an actual lowest listing value around 5 times that high now.

Might sound much to some people but in the end, its just enough to cover the global demand for a couple of hours.

I was using those specific price points as an example but that pattern is exactly how all my listings were sold. I had bought up bulk quartz when it was way low, around 20c way back when it was ultra cheap after LS s1. I then relisted a dozen stacks or so at each copper price point between 40c and 1.2c. 40c,41c,42c…..94c,95c,96c….1.18s,1.19s,1.20s

I only go back the last month for daily sales on my quartz history but
26 days ago 99c sold
23 days ago 1.0s sold out
18 days ago my listings went from 1.01s to 1.05s.
Then 15 days ago the rest of my 1.05s listing sold and it spiked up to 1.09s.
14 days ago all my 1.10s listing sold. (There were a LOT at 1.10s)
12 days ago the rest 1.10s to 1.14s sold out.
11 days ago the 1.15s sold. (and here too)
10 days ago the 1.16 to the 1.20 listings sold.
9 days ago 1.20s-1.28s (this is where I started only listing a few stacks here or there at random price points)
8 days ago my listing at 1.3-1.32 sold.
7 days ago 1.39s-1.48s sold
5 days ago 1 stack at 1.49s
4 days 1.5s sold

Those listings lower than 1.2c price points had way more than I had put there as well. To the tune of tens of thousands at some copper price points. As you point out the quartz isn’t in a bubble, it gets affected by many different market forces now. Those sheets of charged ambrite and its many uses are an example of things that have a strong effect. But just looking at my sold list tells me that this movement in the market was intentional. With an unregulated commodities market things like this happen.

Anyways, if you think general demand in the last couple of months came mostly from investors, you are foolish to buy quartz now. If you think demand came from consumers, you better stock up now.

I 100% agree.

disclaimer: no tin foil hat thing here. There is no secret TP cabal controlling quartz. Look at the buy orders. There are no HUGE buy walls keeping the price high but the upswing in the price is driven by a few smart people aggressively investing. The natural price balance between supply/demand hasn’t been reached yet I feel because drytop is a ghost town and that is where the farmable quartz is. At what price quartz becomes viable to farm is the question I have with this. I would also like to point out that I always knew that the quartz price was artificially low due to oversupply from long ago. I also had a feeling that the amount coming out of dry top wouldn’t sustain the 25-30c price point it was at for months.

I dont doubt that there are quite a few investors in quartz, I am one of them, but to believe a single player bought the majority of the 7 million quartz form the tp over the last 3 1/2 months, is simply ridiculous.

There have been many sinks added without a doubt. But to deny that even 30k gold is some insurmountable amount to invest for a few people is naive. A couple whales working together could get that easy. A single one could. Heck, you wanze could have moved this your self if you cashed out a bunch of other investments.

The thing that tells me it is an intentional movement of the market price as opposed to a natural upswing is the pace of the sales I got. Especially when it was moving from 40c(my lowest listings) to 1s it would go in spurts of a few copper at a time. Each one of those was a mass buy out not natural sales. If they were simple, normal usage i would have sold all of the ones at 55c one day and then a few days later the 56c listing would sell. I wouldn’t have been looking at my recently sold tab and seen listings sold for 55c, 56c, 57c, 58c all over a short amount of time. Not with the tens of thousands that were sitting at each price point.

To be clear I never said a single player, but a single player could do it. I know of a handful of people who have over 100k gold and I am not that well connected. Whether this would be a wise investment, for a single player, of that much gold is debatable but make no mistake about it a single player could easily pull it off.

Its not really a stock market as its more an unregulated commodities market. And yes the timing of the post is suspect considering it comes near the upper range in price not when it was slowly rising.
