Since the release of the extractor there have been a bunch of threads on this topic with no response. Since you changed transmutation stones into charges there have been even more threads with no response because the issue is even higher priority with the loss of the transmutation stones.
There is some misinformation that has been passed along that changing the wvw and karma gear to be salvageable would ruin the economy. This is false. Only a handful of items would even be affected by this change. Karma and wvw gear should be unrestricted.
TL;DR – When can we expect to have the restricted gear unrestricted or some other option to get upgrades out of substandard gear?
All Items should be salvageable that you buy with the MANY currencies we have in this game. Dungeon tokens are unrestricted so karma and wvw gear should be unrestricted. “play the game how you want” is not possible if there are different rules based on the currencies you receive.

I dont care about how often you die. Look at the numbers on the gear.
Exotic gear is still suitable for many classes. Esp in zerg warfare. If we start talking about 1v1 and roaming then the tides turn and the OP is spot on.
It doesnt matter whether it is still suitable. All Acended gear gives better stats. I dont care that a full ascended rabid only makes my bleeds tick for 2 more points per tick. But with the changes to transmutations and such there are still multiple sets of substandard gear in my inventory that should be salvagable.
The arguments about the TP being sent into convulsions with all the new material being injected into the market would simply expedite the forced deflation of the tp economy that Anet is maneuvering towards and it wouldn’t have that big of an effect except on a few specific markets.
I take it there was a way before the patch to extract the superior sigil/rune from karma and dungeon items that isn’t possible anymore with the changes done for the wardrobe.
There is a faction on the forums crying for more rewards that are specifically tied to certain activities so the wealthy just can’t buy those rewards. That’s why dungeon token and karma bought items have those limitations. That’s also why ascended items are account or character bound. Possession should indicate participation.

None of this quibbling over how well people can play changes the FACT that exotic gear is substandard now. Upgrades are also locked into any exotics bought from a karma or WvW vendor unless you are willing to spend 2-5 times as much gold for one of those stupid overpriced extractors as you would on a new rune.
I have 2 sets of divinity runes and 2 sets of melandru runes and 3 sets of soldier/trooper runes sitting in substandard gear. Thats roughly 250 gold in runes that would cost me about 675 gold to recover with the only option available. Simply put the upgrade extractor argument stands on quicksand.
good suggestion here. i like it especially since Q.V. is in the power line. I think this would make some solid synergy.
I really like that idea. some mystic forge way of geting ascended gear that is directly tied to the gift of battle that works on WvW gear. Maybe tie in 50 ectos like the ascended laurel trinkets.
Gear = all equipment(ARMOR, WEAPON, TRINKETS). The point is none of the badge gear is salvageable.
I also like how the mods moved this post from the BLT forums to the WvW forums so it can be promptly ignored…
With the introduction of ascended armor and weapons and even trinkets way back when, WvW badge gear is pointless to have. Back when GW2 was released and there was no upward gear progression having an alternate set of “WvW gear” with a different set of runes was fine. Now with ascended gear being the BiS having a alt set of exotic wvw gear makes you under powered.
With this being the case, all those sigils and runes in exotic wvw gear are wasted simply because we cannot salvage them. Fix this please. I know how long this has been an issue but fix this problem. I dont have 30-60 gold to simply replace 1 set of runes on 1 set of armor on 1 character when I have 8 characters to gear up each with this problem.
Yep, that has been happening on our server, too. Blue and red working against green together.
theoretically this is how it should work. the 2 lower ranked/weaker servers focusing on the stronger one more to balance the 3 way match.
I also agree fully with you that flipping shouldnt offer any rewards. Personally, i played the TP for thousands of hours and i never got a single copper or anything else as a reward, so i dont know what you complain about. I made plenty of profit though.

It isn’t about being “good” at playing the TP. It is about doing research and geting expirienced with it. I barely made it out of high school math with a passing grade but I can still turn a little profit of playing it from reading and learning about the TP. All this I did on my own by making the decision I would learn about it. It takes basic math to succeed. All you need to do is learn to multiply by .85.
There’s more to it than that, and congratulations that you have the talent to make it work for you, but accept as a basic premise that not everyone does.
And this sums up what you want. You want the same rewards from working the TP as someone who has put in the PERSONAL EFFORT to research prices on the TP. You are also asking the Dev’s to somehow predict the future FOR YOU through their TP interface.
Yes, that is what I said. The TP should not be an effective money engine, it should only exist to level out the RNG curve of drops, by allowing adventurers a place to find items that RNG did not provide them, and to offload items RNG provided that they do not want. The only money being made off the TP should be going to players who found the items in the first place.
You also dont understand how much work is needed to make the amount of gold you are jelly of off the TP.
Ok, then I’ll ask you two basic questions. 1. Do you spend more than two hours per day actively working on the TP? 2. Do you average more than 5g earned per day? If so, we have a problem, because I spend more than two hours per day playing the actual game, and I tend to average well less than 5g per day in doing so. I’m not saying that the TP is easy or effortless, I’m saying that it rewards unequally for the effort put in, that the other ingame activities do not reward nearly as much for equal amounts of time and effort.
The answer to your first question is no, that would be boring. The answer to your second question is a little more complex. I can flip items and make more than 5 gold for 2 hours investment, but I would rather speed run AC p1-3 for an equal amount of gold but less time invested. Working the TP involves patience and the willingness to suspend your desire for instant gratification. For example, I sold out of my cheap elonian leathers when the spinal blades came out because the price spiked. I then rebought the amount I needed a while later at a much cheaper price.
The Problem you have is that you keep saying you can’t do something. I am saying that playing the TP is like everything else in life. If you apply yourself you can figure out how to make gold off it. But you may not be as good as the next person, such is life. Learn it now and you may be a little more prepared for real life.
You should also consider that your lack of knowledge on this subject may preclude you from making suggestions anyone will take seriously.

4. I decided early on not to bother grinding out a Legendary. I didn’t wnt to farm the whole thing out. I chose not to do the backend work involved in Crafting a Legendary. I do not have a Legendary.
5. I chose to find some niche crafting markets where I could make a little gold. I chose to learn the TP and how it worked by reading articles online and watching videos.(just like I did when I wanted to learn how to speed run a few dugeons)
You also dont understand how much work is needed to make the amount of gold you are jelly of off the TP. You keep saying you want to play how you want and that is fine for you but dont think you know how much effort is being put into something you, self admittedly, know little to nothing about. Are you jelly of 400 gold? 1k? Is it coins you are jelly of or investments too? I mean the 50 minis all have a cost value assigned to them but dont count towards anyones wallet.
And there is at least 1 auto-outbidding bot that is frequently on that “cheap exotic with worthy salvageable rune/insignia/sigil/inscription” market and it usually buys in quantity of 2.

With the chest rewards I have been getting from season 2 for the various different achievements involved(Capture X# sentries, Kill X# players, etc) I was thinking that WvW is finally rewarding me almost on a balanced scale compared to PvE.
With that being said could you guys implement a similar system within the WvW achievements section that reset on completion similar to the master of entropy achievement that resets every time you salvage x# things.
The rewards and tasks would have to be worked out but I think you have a pretty good template in the Season 2 achievement panel.
EOTM is a great place for scrub PvE players to get all the wxp rewards without having to come in contact with a live enemy.

Then make karma/badge return no crafting material.
But with the advent of ascended gear, alt sets of exotic gear, that were perfectly fine being 100% unchanging in the past, are superfluous now.

1. I dont care about the mats. At this point these pieces of equipment are simply taking up space but have limited value upgrades.
2. the mystic forge would waste all those upgrades that are sitting in(in my case and I’m sure many others) outdated gear.
3. The upgrade extractor is priced properly in gem prices for exactly 1 upgrade in this game the superior sigil of generosity. All other upgrade components would end up being a loss in gold value to use that as opposed to replacing.
I would like to salvage these please. I want my runes and sigils out of them and do not need the armor/weapons anymore. Specifically my exotic bloodlust sigil stacking weapons and exotic soldier armor for WvW with runes of the soldier that are from WvW and temples. These exotics literally have no point to exist. The same goes for any exotic trinkets I got from wvw and temples.
I like my new engineer. Too bad i wont play him this season.

You’re example is one of my main concerns though and why I brought this up. If a stronger server gets ahold of SM, it can snowball in terms of how dominate the stronger server is. It makes weaker servers or servers that don’t have as much population (1) compared to the the one with SM a lot harder to do stuff in the game. I know what you’re going to say, its the stronger server so them winning more is reasonable. However, this isn’t exactly something thats good. You want as close to a fair match as possible(2) in these never ending battles. I mean countless times I’ve seen huge WvW guilds leaver servers because of something minimal, or WvW guilds on already bad servers leave it which then makes their WvW coverage even worse and these guilds leaver because of small poor design decisions. The pugs aren’t “smart enough”, not enough nightcoverage, server can’t take SM enough, these are all reasons I’ve seen given from a WvW guild that leaves their server. (3)
(1) This is redundant. weaker servers = less coverage. note: population =/= coverage
(2) fair match = stronger server winning. Anything else is counter intuitive. When it comes to the WvW game mode coverage beats population and skill. note: Tyria and the mists are not Sparta. WvW is not the place you can pull off being the 300 because every other real person in zone want to also and most of them will be better at pvp than you.
(3)You contradict your self here. which is it? Did the WvW guilds leave because of the reasons you list(bad pugs, night coverage, etc) or did they leave because of “small poor design decisions”?
SM is a trinket. if a more populous server takes it and decides to hold it you can only mitigate the damage it does to the surrounding towers until you THINK of a way to retake it. note:you don’t need 90% of your force to take SM for the whole siege. A few dedicated groups can handle taking down the outer easy, they can probably make multiple openings in a short time. Heck a commander with a zerg can drop 4-5 catas on a wall wp, resupply and focus on inner since the walls will be down by the time he comes back.

it took me 48 ranks to finally get an Ascended Weapon chest. Please fix.

I am thinking I have seen this in T1 almost every time one server tries to break a T3 keep. The 2 attacking servers usually fight over the new paper keep and karma train a little.
