It’s interesting that you say I think only my opinion matters but you completely discount my opinion and don’t address the things I actually said.
And for every person you know who says they don’t like it I know a person who says they think it’s just fine. Since we’re talking about things that can’t be proven.
So who is right and who is wrong?
Champion bags are going to get nerfed in some way, it’s only a matter of time. Zerging champions one after another and purposely failing to farm them can’t be what they want. It can also be just as profitable as farming Deadeye was if you didn’t have a private arena, so the nerf should be expected. Looking at the Tequatl changes, those champions don’t drop anything, so something will happen.
Watch them go the gauntlet route again by taking the silver out of the bags and making champion loot awarded through the UI chest. The ascended item won’t be put into the old bags of course, only the new UI chest.
Unlike Deadeye though, nerfing champion bags would affect the majority, since for the last 2 weeks, they’ve basically told everyone to go out and zerg. Furthermore, they’ve given a reason to not open these bags right now. They’ll probably go with a daily champion chest through the UI and not change the old bags.
Even if they did make those changes (which I doubt they will) it’ll still be better than how it was before, which was basically champions not being worth the time it takes to kill them.
its even a worse issue in fractal
Where 10 AR at 48 its the difference between 2shots and oneshot….
That difference is HUGE.
I was lucky to get a twilight rather than a bolt at least….so i should be able to have 55 AR for most parts of shaman/cliffside etc
How is that a “worse issue”? When weapons are being used in the one place that they’re actually designed to be used in?
What are you gonna complain about after the ascended armor is out? When it will be even easier to get high levels of AR?
(edited by fellyn.5083)
So you’re using wvw as a basis for your complaint, yet you don’t wvw that much? Fair enough, I guess.
But the thing is, it won’t affect wvw that much if at all because wvw is designed to not be fair.
You worry about a weapon that does 10% more damage. Okay. But what about the level 15 in blues that you just instagibed? Was that fair to him?
As for the rest..no…just no.
I don’t know about crafting materials. I’m saving my champ boxes for all the greens and blues to salvage.
If I do gets some crafting materials from them then that’s a complete bonus.
Q) Will your exotic weapons disappear when the patch hits on tuesday?
A) Nope.
Q) Do you need ascended weapons for any sort of content to complete said content?
A) Again, nope.
It doesn’t force anyone to do anything and it certainly doesn’t “kill” anything. If people would stop thinking they need to have their ascended weapons all done at once and instead picture it as long term thing much like legendaries then they’d be way better off and stress themselves out less over them.
The only concern I have about ascended weapons it that they will cause unwarranted elitism.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
My prediction is that they will make the world events giant failure fests as they have done elsewhere in the game where they have tried to make the game more “interesting”. To Anet challenge is simply instagibs from the particle blur. This will largely empty the world events just as it has Orr and we can then focus on whatever temporary LS content they have cooked up. The greater living world will become more and more lifeless and localized temporary content will be standing room only. I’m looking at you SAB. Have fun guys.
A big complaint from quite a few people that we’ve seen over and over on these forums is that events can’t fail. Literally impossible once numbers reach a certain point. Just zerg it with numbers.
What anet has done is created an event where yeah, numbers matter to an extent, but the event can still fail if the numbers aren’t coordinated.
I think it’s great.
Watch what happens. I’ve been watching since march/april and what will happen is that people will begin abandoning the events as they have events in the Cursed Shore. It’s just one more part of the game that will become a ghost town. We can’t really afford more ghost towns at this point—it really needs to turn around. Humans are not built for continuous failure; it’s not what we are about. However, it is what Anet is about and the results are already coming in.
People stopped doing Cursed Shore events because they stopped being worth the time it took to do them.
We don’t know at this point if the new Tequalty will be worth it or not so what you’re saying is just speculation and not fact.
With the Ascended carrot, however rare, people will still do it religiously.
So we’re back to engame = camping the same worldbosses over and over, watching the dragon timer websites, and moving between the same handful of waypoints.
For a game that hates farmers, this game sure is geared towards farming.
I’m sure some servers will muster the people to do this religiously. Some won’t, though.
Assuming the ascended weapons have the chance to show up in the daily chest and the regular chest.
I hope it’s both.
I’m confused how the number of people is a problem. Right now easily more than 50-60-70 people will show up for claw of jormag and the new Tequatl will be much more rewarding (in theory).
Where did you pull the number 80 from? I watched the live stream footage from yesterday and I’m pretty sure they said they only had 60 people.
And no one goes to the tequatl fight right now because it’s not really worth the effort to get there. After the revamp that might change? Who knows.
Complaining for the sake of complaining is what this thread comes down to.
Since when have they ever confirmed that we’d be getting a new area, crystal desert or otherwise any time soon or that it’s even being worked on?
I’m fairly certain they haven’t.

Pretty obvious, fellyn. Getting ascended gear is even more of a grind now and since Teq will drop ascended related crafting item it can be thrown into that “grind” part.
Even more of a grind than what? Since they don’t exist right now you have no basis for comparison.
You’re also forgetting that people in general will have more magic find which means more rares which means more ectos.
So again, I’m not sure what he meant by the second part.
All I see is + 100.000.000.000 added to him and a few dungeon mechanics in the process. I already told myself ‘nope, this is not for me, i hate spamming dps, and have the feeling it won’t finish for the first hours’. Then they show ‘finish it or you don’t get 100 achievements’. Lame, very lame. Anet.
Did you watch the live stream? There is now more to the fight than just “spamming dps” and it’s entirely possible we will fail it. A lot.
Which is exactly the kind of thing the game needs. I’m looking forward to it.
While this is true and many, including myself if I were still playing, would welcome it… but with the increase in necessity of a ectos and resources for ascended gear.. they propped up one portion of the game and made another even more of a grind.
So why do you care? You just said you aren’t playing anymore so it has no effect on you one way or another?
And I’m not sure what you mean by the second part.
You are mistaken, when you wrote that, it was already the 1st of september. The server time is GMT and it always has been.
I didn’t know the entire world was in GMT. Thanks for clearing that up.
West Coast US the daily/monthly reset at 5pm. Kind of right at the start of prime time. You know? The time when most people would log on and expect to work on such things?

Moral of the story – be the one to open dungeon instances.
It resets at the same time the daily timer resets. That being said, maybe it should reset the first of the month, not the last day of the month.
I might have to try it again. I’ve done that fight maybe twice. And not within the last 10 months.
Thoughts – why should magic find give Person A an advantage of Person B? You seem to imply that you deserve more than other players.
As for the rest? It’s beyond our control so why worry about it? They’re going to change stuff (like drop rates) at a whim and unless they tell us we’ll never know. We might suspect, but we’ll never know.
It’s because they don’t want you to run in this tonic all the time. The fact that you can fight in it for 5 minutes is a tremendous bonus and is enough of a benefit to offset the cooldown timer.
After this event is over people won’t even bother complaining about this minor issue.
How, exactly, is that a benefit? Does it make my character stronger? Do I get more loot? Not at all, no benefit whatsoever.
It allows you to transform completely and fight in it for 5 minutes? Isn’t that benefit enough? That you can transform and be unique?
No.
I was pumped when I got this – finally something I’d use EVERY DAY from a big event! I was just about to go and create a new character that I’d use the tonic on constantly,…
…then I read about the 5 min. duration and 30 min. cooldown.
Now, like most of the other cra… erm, STUFF, I’ve gotten in events like this, it’s gathering dust in the bank. A-net, please fix so the tonic stays on until double-clicked, even if that’s 6 hours later. If you have to remove the effect on zoning/map traveling/instancing I understand (there’s probably a global effect that removes stuff like this based on what I’ve seen with speed boosts and the like), but at least let me “get back in character” immediately.
Thanks!
On the flip side boosters and food/support items stay on when you waypoint out of a zone so there is a mechanic for that too.
What it comes down to is pure laziness and anet has demonstrated that quite a bit, sadly.
Run Dungeons. Get gear for free. Alternatively if you have to spend gold then go for it.
I don’t think you gain much by making gear right now that you don’t necessarily need or want after magic find is retired.
The point is that you craft/buy magic find gear now (as it’s cheaper to make/buy than other gear), keep it in storage, and when MF is retired, you get to transmogrify it into the kind of gear that you really want (e.g. Zerkers).
In the end, you’d be getting Zerkers gear (for example) at Explorers prices.
Edit: I’d probably do this with armor, not weapons as I’m expecting a glut of Exotic weapons on the TP once everyone starts starts to level their crafting to 500.
I understand what is being asked. What I said is you can get both and actually make money while doing it instead of spending money. Then there is the wvw armor, too. But that actually costs a bit of gold.
If you don’t like to run dungeons and don’t want to save money for making ascended weapons or whatever else then that’s a different story.
It just seems like an awfully round about way to get armor with stats you want on it.

I guess the worst part of this is that it is largely certain members of the community that have brought these changes about. GW1 could afford to be different, because it was relatively a niche game compared to certain other juggernauts. When Anet decided they wanted to be “bigtime” it basically ruined their chances of sticking to their manifesto because it attracted players that are too used to status quo and requested to have these things we are getting in the game. Sad day, sad day.
Certain members? Really? Because I’m pretty sure before it was announced no one knew ascended stuff was coming.
Pretty much at the same time they said we’d be getting ascended weapons and armor, too.
So please explain how “certain members” are responsible for this?
And I find these doom and gloom predictions for GW2 interesting because all the numbers we’ve heard in the last year indicate that GW2 is still growing. And that’s not even taking into consideration the chinese release.
People just need something to complain about or they can’t be happy.
My Thief has 8 weapons. So that’s 4 months for just 1 character.
I can’t wait to see the flames on the forums.
You poor little thing.
My warrior has around 14 that I switch between regularly.
My Guardian has at least 12 that I switch between regularly.
My care factor is 0.
(Had to repost because my old posting was removed here, because I speculated about the state of mind of the person responsible for ascended gear, which a moderator didn’t approve of.)
What in the world could make someone add gear that is 11%+ better than exotics, giving you a permanent feel of “this sucks, I cannot fairly compete, because I can’t invest insane amounts of time into this new vertical gear grind —that Arenanet originally promised they’d never add— so I will always have inferior items from now on”?
I’m speechless about this in my opinion bad game design. But anyway, I stopped playing way back when the whole Ascended nonsense was released and I only just got back cause a friend asked me to help him out. You won’t ever see a dime from me until you restore your promise and actual product features you announced when GW2 came out, the reason why I bought it and invested countless hours in it: No gear progression/grind. I invested a lot of time into the game based on that statement of you about what your product would definitely 100% be like, so how about paying me back for that false statement actually? The increase over exotics should be 3% to 5%, with 5% being the obvious absolute maximum.
As people stated in the usual youtube videos containing criticism on ascended items, it should of course really be 0% -> it is gear you can grind for if you like that fractal dungeon grind -- leave everyone else alone with that kitten instead of forcing them to do things they don’t want to do and play the way they don’t want to play.Where did they promise they wouldn’t ever add near gear tiers?
It was one of the selling points before launch.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. If it was it should be pretty easy for you to find proof of that claim though.
I’ll bet a dollar you won’t be able to find a quote anywhere that says something along the lines of “we will never add a new gear tier to Guild Wars 2”.
In any case why are people acting like this is new? We’ve known Ascended weapons and armor were coming for the better part of a year and that they would be better than exotics.

Maybe fixed isn’t the correct word to use. Maybe it needs changed. I hope it gets changed.
Color me disappointed when I first used it and realized it only lasts for 5 minutes. Color me even more disappointed when I realized it had a 30 minute cool down.
What were they thinking with such a useless item?
My guess is it would be an average number from then to now.
LOL, you know what i find hilarious? The fact that ascended was first meant to be so you could handle doing higher levels fractal, but anet hasnt touched fractals since their release. In fact, they completely ignored them in their dungeon “revamp”.
I have a feeling ascended will be needed for more then fractals because they seem to not even care about fractals at this point.
They said they are doing a revamp of fractals in 2013. Probably happen about the same time the Thaumanova fractal is put into the game.
They’ve got 4 months to go for that.
Except for old players aren’t progressing. I just made a new character from 1 to 80 in full exotics and ascended trinkets in less than 2 weeks.
You cannot get full ascended trinkets in two weeks. It takes a mininum of 20 laurels to get just the amulet. You had to have used laurels/badges/commendations/pristine relics that you had previously acquired.
A new player cannot possibly have 5 ascended trinkets in two weeks.
That’s my point. The guy claimed old players are still progressing.
Where is the progression when I can take a character from 1 to 80 and kit them out with stat perfect gear in less than 2 weeks?
Fact is this game needs something that takes a bit longer to achieve than what we’ve got now.
You are only looking at the situation as it is this very moment, and only for the situation you are in with your characters.
Old players will be progressing in 7 days when timegated ascended weapons are added. Thankfully there was a pause between this and ascended earrings/accessories, and the weapons will hopefully not involve laurels in their crafting. This is the one thing that is helping negate new players falling behind, but it is very dependent on how limiting the timegating is and how frequent new pieces are released. The longer the game is out, and old players get more and more ascended gear, and more ascended gear/upgraded infusions get added, the worse this becomes for new players.
You’re also assuming the new players will focus on a single character, or few characters. There is no way I could possbibly have all of my characters equipped with ascended trinkets right now. I have no main, so unless I happen to want to play a character that does have those, I’m at a disadvantage to a single-character player…and I’ve been playing since pre-release. New players are even more pressured away from alts and into single character gameplay just to have any chance of maybe catching up if the release schedule and timegating allows it.
I am all for long term goals, things to achieve that take a lot of time or effort. But not when those things create an advantage for some players that others might not be able to catch up to, or put a significant disadvantage on certain playstyles. There are ways to add long term goals without creating these problems.
Hold up for a second. I make no assumptions about anything or anyone. I just don’t think it’s the doom and gloom you are making it out to be.
I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal and worrying about new players is just silly.
There is always going to be some one new. Why are you choosing to fight over ascended gear which will be in the game forever instead of the past year of live story events that are never coming back? The AP from those if you missed them is gone for ever and so are the rewards. Most of them in the horizontal progression that you say is so important.
There is no ascended gear in pvp so I’m still confused by what you mean.
this is the second time with just my responses that you blatantly disregarded the larger meaning of the post and picked a somewhat-related tangent to start off. you are trolling and I’m done replying.
i realize this very post is off topic & a possible trolling effort on my part and for that i apologize.
Well explain yourself better. You said “pvp in general”. There are only 2 areas where pvp can happen. Spvp and wvw. In one there is no ascended gear so there is no problem there. In the other it matters little because you’re part of a large group.
Maybe the problem is you having trouble getting your point across.
I don’t think they will add more content that requires ascended stuff and I hope they don’t. That aside, players can be kittens. That shouldn’t stop anet from adding new stuff to the game. They can’t balance for kittens.
And in wvw there is always going to be new players and old players mixed together with varying tiers of gear and skill. You can’t balance for that either. Unless you just remove all gear stats in wvw.
So the only valid complaint is that anet might in the future add harder content that requires ascended. Other than that it seems like your complaint is with the uplevel balancing and not ascended gear.
And a player in full exotics will beat a player in full ascended if they know their class better and are just generally better at the game pretty easily. Past that in small groups or zergs it doesn’t matter to much who has what.
disregarding the fact that high lvl fractals already requires ascended equipment…why would they not add additional content that requires ascended gear? players are being forced to spend considerably more time (in waiting) and resources to make something and it isnt even going to be of any use? after all the extra time and effort spent to get complete ascended, it is not that different in performance than full exotic? anet should limit their future content because of a limitation placed by a previous content release? does that even make sense?
a year old player in no armor at upscaled 80 could possibly beat a second old player with full legendary (whenever we get to that) but thats not the point. we arent talking about whats possible. only thing determining the winner in combat was supposed to be the skill of the user; balance did exist in the fact that max lvl gear was accessible in variety of ways. the ease of acquisition actually somewhat nullified the gearing problem of those with multiple characters/gear. for those that wanted to go the extra mile, there was legendary.
its quite remarkable how one update can bring about so many problemsWorld vs world was never meant to be balanced. See 1v1v1. Individual skill was never in the equation. Next complaint..
I don’t think you play WvW, or pay attention to the WvW forums. They do want it to be fairly balanced. So yeah, get your facts straight before trolling.
Is that why world vs world is by it’s design not balanced? I’m not saying aspects of it aren’t meant to balanced but the entire design of it from the ground up is not supposed to balanced otherwise it would be 1v1.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
World vs world was never meant to be balanced. See 1v1v1. Individual skill was never in the equation. Next complaint..
i was talking about pvp in general… not just WvWvW and that is definitely not the only method of pvp. regardless, a million x 0 is just a bigger 0. if the individual members of your zerg dont know how to play then you arent gonna get anything done.
There is no ascended gear in pvp so I’m still confused by what you mean.

Wrong. There is a time gate for everyone. Not just new players. Are you suggesting anet should make their content with people in mind who aren’t even playing the game yet?
There is a timegate for everyone. But those that are already playing are forever ahead of those starting at any later date as long as new piece/upgrades/etc are being added. And they’ve already laid out their intentions of going beyond just the ascended gear itself. The new players are behind the old players, and can’t catch up because the old players are still progressing at the same timegated rate.
Let’s say we apply the same scenario to race cars. 2 identical cars with a speed governor capping them at 60 mph, on a course that will not require any slowing for corners. One driver starts 20 seconds after the other. He has no way to catch up. That driver will always be behind unless the other is slowed down/stopped.
And an resounding yes to Anet taking into consideration people that aren’t playing yet. Because I’m sure they want to continue getting sales. People are going to be less likely to buy the game when they find out that there is an ever-increasing gear ceiling that timegates will prevent them from catching up to.
Except for old players aren’t progressing. I just made a new character from 1 to 80 in full exotics and ascended trinkets in less than 2 weeks.
My first character that took the better part of two months.
Why do you insist new players need to be “caught up”? My point is there are always going to be new players. You can’t worry about them for ever.
Ascended gear is for players who are level 80. Until you get ascended stuff exotics still do exist in the game and are more than good enough for anyone who isn’t an elitist kitten. Exotics are still just as good and easy to obtain.
I might not agree with time gated content but I don’t see it as the doom and gloom scenario that you do.
Alas, I’m just trolling, though.
P.S. We saw all these same complaints when ascended items were first announced the better part of a year. Guess what? The game is still growing. So I guess the people who say they don’t like time gated ascended gear aren’t putting their money where their mouths are if the claims that most people don’t like it are right.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
fellyn’s trolling, ignore him.
Trolling because I disagree? Right.

Should new players start at level 80 with a full set of exotics and crafting professions at 500 fresh out of the character creator? I’m not sure what you’re saying.
We all started at level 1 with 0 crafting professions and gear. I’m not sure where the disadvantage comes into play.
When we started the game, the amount of time needed for levelling and gearing up was dependent only on the effort we were willing to put in the game. Now, there’s a time gate put between new players and us. That is something that cannot be overcome by anything.
Wrong. There is a time gate for everyone. Not just new players. Are you suggesting anet should make their content with people in mind who aren’t even playing the game yet?
A single char.
With a single build.
With a single weapon combination.
With a single armor and trinkets stat allocation.Yeah. Sounds (not) fun.
This. Plus, new players (i.e., new customers, Anet!) will be at a severe disadvantage.
How are they at a disadvantage and more importantly why should anet worry about that?

Currently, getting to fully Exotic gear is pretty easy, even for a new player — there are lots of avenues for getting geared up.
It looks very much like Ascended gear will be a huge grind, locked behind time gates. The point being that getting to Ascended gear will be far harder than getting to Exotic gear, causing a big stat separation between your main and your alts, between your primary build and other builds, and between old players and new.
You didn’t answer the question and your claim. How are new players disadvantaged.
I thought I did answer the question: currently, gearing up to best in gear is extremely
easy so that if you’re creating a new build, a new alt, or if you’re a new player, you’re at full capabilities really fast. With the Ascended time gating especially, it will take you far longer to have best-in-gear. You will be playing with sub-optimal gear for far longer than you do now. And the difference is not insignificant — projecting from current Ascended stats and Exotic stats, a fully Exotic toon will be equal to a fully Ascended one with (one piece of) broken armor. Do you run around with broken armor?Let me ask you this. When September third rolls around will all exotic items in the game disappear?
No? Well that’s a relief.
New content will be scaled towards Ascended gear so your Exotics will be to Ascended as Rares are to Exotics now. Do you play with Rare gear? (This is especially significant in WvW.)
Did anet say that? Or is it just your assumption?
That is my assumption. But do you think Anet would keep content at the same level, thus making their game easier in every way? I assume they have an idea of what level of difficulty this game should be. If players become more powerful, then to keep the desired level of difficulty, they have to increase content difficulty. Again, my assumption.
That’s PvE. For WvW, the impact is assured because other players will get Ascended gear, increasing your difficulty.
By the way, even if Anet doesn’t increase difficulty, at some point you will be prejudiced against if you’re not fully Ascended. You can do all content (pretty easily) in Rares now, but try not getting kicked in a dungeon group after telling your party you’re decked out in Rares.

Should new players start at level 80 with a full set of exotics and crafting professions at 500 fresh out of the character creator? I’m not sure what you’re saying.
We all started at level 1 with 0 crafting professions and gear. I’m not sure where the disadvantage comes into play.

Anet can’t take into consideration new players when adding new content. They can’t.
There will be a new person starting today. A new person starting tomorrow. And yet more new people starting the day after that. How are they going to constantly make all these new people are caught up? They can’t. It’s impossible.
That coupled with the fact that all these new people coming into the game will have different play schedules. Some can play 1 hour a day while others can play 12+ hours a day.
How do they make it fair to them all?
And the only time some one is going to complain you don’t have full ascended gear is when you’re doing high level fractals. That’s it…unless they’re just an elitist kitten . For literally everything else in the game exotics are still amazingly good.
After all, fractals are the only thing (still) in the game that are balanced around the idea that you’ll have ascended stuff on. And that’s only high level fractals. And for only agony resistance and not stats.

Have you ever noticed that uplevels get targeted in WvW. Do you know why? Because the upleveling doesn’t account for exotic gear. They are basically very squishy at hit like a we noodle. Take the same character and put them up against someone in ascended gear and squish. It won’t even be a fight.
An uplevel is not a level 80. An uplevel won’t be using exotics. They won’t even be using rares.
I’m not entirely sure I see your point. If your complaint is against how upleveling is balanced then I think I understand.

The timegating is the disadvantage. Someone getting GW2 a few months after all of the ascended gear pieces are added will be looking at months and months of drudging through timegated gear upgrading just to get themselves on even footing.
Someone playing right now, as the ascended gear is being released, can keep up (only with a single character, which is also a huge problem) and not be at a disadvantage to anyone else.
Yes, starting at level 1 is still a disadvantage, but it’s a minor one because leveling up and getting into exotic gear is a fairly quick process. The months it takes to get ascended gear is not, and it’s also locked behind timegates that ensure they will never catch up as long as new ascended tier gear is being released. And we know more is coming. We’ve already been told that armor is coming at some point, and that higher grade infusions are also planned.
The interesting thing is that because it’s time gated it takes the same amount of time for some one who has played the entire last year as some one who starts playing next week. Where is the disadvantage here?
In fact one could argue the new player might have the advantage here because they won’t have invested time and money into obtaining their exotic gear else where.
And also, are you saying that some one that starts playing next week should be put on the same level as some one who has spent the last year gathering all their gear? That doesn’t even make sense. We may as well give them free legendaries at level 1 right? Because we’re worrying about being fair to new players? People have legendaries so it’s only fair. Right? Right? That’s your argument.

What we could see happening is that dungeon tokens will be a way to purchase materials for ascended gear. So it won’t give ascended gear itself, but provide a path to it.
I’m not too worried. Ascended gear isn’t really required for anything.
Basically this. It’s all speculation at this point. The existence of ascended gear isn’t going to automatically invalidate all of your exotics. Just like with exotic vs ascended trinkets.
The difference is barely noticeable at best. It might be slightly more noticeable if you go from all rares to all ascended, but that’s about it.

Also remember, the only crafting that is getting boosted to 500 is Artificer, Weaponsmith and Huntsman. Armor will all still be exotic grade. I fully expect the Ascended weapons that we craft to just be the Pearl Weapon skins that we have already been making and we will just transmute them per usual.
No. The ascended rifle the page shows a picture of is not the same as the pearl rifle.
Looks like a similar color scheme but that’s about it.
I like it. Bring it on. Crafting needed something that was more involved to make it worthwhile.
I just don’t understand why it’s only 3. Why not jewel crafting too?
