Just crafted I think the first ascended greatsword
Congratulations on buying your ascended weapon. Well deserved “first”.
OP is spot on. Sarcasm aside. I thought about making a similar thread.
There are people at every event you go to practically. It’s crazy. And not just 5 or 6 people. But 50 or more.
Best update since release.
magic find is a hoax
25 stacks magic find didnt change anything….
No it’s not. I’m only at 59 or maybe 60% MF now and I’ve gotten more rares and exotics in the last 2 days than I have in months. This is especially true for exotics as I’ve gotten at least 3 that I can remember.
Before Tuesday the last time I got an exotic as a drop was… ??? I don’t remember because it so rarely happened.
Increased MF will not help with precursor drops.
Trust me, with a very high MF before the patch, exotics and rares were not raining from the sky. Just an increase in blue/greens and higher level crafting materials (T5 instead of T4 for example).
Besides, most of the player base whined about MF and about how useless it was. That is why they removed it in the first place. Not sure how rewarding them with an extra free 20% MF made sense, but who really cares.
Don’t over estimate the value of MF.
This is partialy true but mostly wrong.
People complained about others going into dungeon groups with full magic find sets to leech off others only for their own benefit.
It was (and still is) a selfish stat and shouldn’t have been on gear from the start. In that sense magic find was “useless”. It didn’t help anyone but the person who had it on their armor lowering the overall effectiveness of a party.
Anet even said the above scenario I described was the main reason why we now this new fantastic magic find system.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
So, hear me out. Everyone is talking about time gating this and that, but it’s not been 24 hours since the new content changes. Before you had a handful of people with high magic find with the old model. Before long, you’re going to have a very large part of the community with 100+% magic find. Guess what, this is going to affect precursor and other T6 and T7 mats drop rates. Arenanet, contrary to people who like to poop on everything will say, pays attention to their game, and the players concerns. If you can’t see that they do, maybe you’ve not played other games lately. If you look at where this game is from when it came out, they have made tons of well thought out changes.
My point of all of this is, lets see how increased magic find across the board affects these things before freaking out. I have a feeling the precursor market is going to get better because of the across the board magic find increase. Before it was the rich getting richer, with a handful of the most geared characters getting more loot. This increase to magic find across the board should, to put it simply, increase the middle class in GW2.
The precursor market is going to be non-existant in 3 to 4 months because Anet is going to let people make their own precursors.
I’d say that’s one of the things anet did right from the start.
If the champions and other mobs that spawn by the truck load had good drops with recent trends Claw of Jormag would never finish.
It’s been that way for as long as I can remember and that’s how it should be. Reward completion not failure.
Actually that didn’t change until about ….maybe 3-4 months ago. Originally, (before the guaranteed rares and champ bags) the mobs, and champs did drop loot. I think it may have been the June 25th patch that changed that.
The problem was, people would not attack claw when his shield went down. And keep him in phase 1 as long as possible and just farm the champs (remember no champ bags though).
So it was changed to have champs drop no loot (I think the vets still do, but I can’t remember).
Whatever the case (I didn’t kill him all that often) it’s good. Stalling events so some dudebros can farm to their hearts content is bad.
Why do people keep saying celestial?
And for the naysayers, I BOUGHT the trinkets specifically to improve my magic find. My whole set of gear was designed around MF. So, losing that from two of the items without compensation hurts.
Plus, who said it was only 8%? I’ve dropped more than 100% just from that one character’s gear. I haven’t even checked the rest of them. SOME of it will get replaced by, IMO, inferior stats. But certainly not all.
To get the 300% somebody mentioned, one has to do a LOT of work. Work I had already done in 6 months of dailies and monthlies. I’m dropping from 100+ on each of four characters to 4% account wide. That’s hardly compensation.
However, I am interested in knowing about this 20% we supposedly get for free. I received no such bonus of which I’m aware.
You are the reason the magic find changes took place. Thank yourself for that.
And you were compensated. You were given 20% account wide magic find, for free. For losing, what…8% magic find? If that?
If you didn’t receive the 5 purple luck items in the mail then that is an entirely different issue and you should contact support about that.

My experience -
All dungeon paths – 20 empyreal fragments per path – repeatable
Jumping puzzles that I’ve done – 3-5 empyreal fragments
World events -
Mega destroyer – 0 dragonite | 0 empyreal
Mega bosses
Tequatl – 17 to 21 dragonite
Shatterer – 17 to 21 dragonite
Claw of Jormag – 17 to 21 dragonite
Golem Mark II – 17 to 21 dragonite
Maw – 3 to 5 dragonite
Worm – 3 to 5 dragonite
Shadow Behemoth – 3 to 5 dragonite
Fire Elemental – 3 to 5 dragonite
All temples – 30 dragonite
As far as dragonite goes, I find it odd that it will be the thing holding most people back from getting their ascended weapons done quickly. I assume they intended people to do all the mega bosses and then jump into wvw daily?
Either way being able to get their chests only once a day is frustrating. Lets us at least get dragonites from them more than once a day.
I don’t get why they are so rare when the other materials are really pretty common. And coupled with the fact that most people are still waiting 5 to 10 days for their daily craft timers..
(edited by fellyn.5083)
The worst part of it is getting crafting from 400 to 500.
After that actually making a weapon is kind of easy. The 2 week time frame they gave during the live stream last week is pretty close for some one who can play but maybe not 5+ hours a day.
Colin did say that they want Ascended to be the last tier- thank the six!
Housing! YaY!Last tier that has better stats. Legendary armor will the last “tier”.
They are the same stats, just for the heads up.
I’m aware of that. Hence why I said what I said and put tier in quotes.
Invasions happen about every 3 hours.
You get a message on your screen saying there is an invasion in a specific zone.
You can get ascended weapons with almost no effort absolutely anywhere.
That’s not true. The chance of getting an ascended drop AND with stats you can use doesn’t make that a viable option.
When you get an ascended drop, you can choose which stats to put on it. Yes, it is a viable option.
He’s right. Over time, you’ll collect ascended materials and find that you’ll have enough to craft an ascended weapon eventually. I’m already more than halfway to crafting an ascended dagger.
False. Anet lied. You do not get to pick the stats.
I think when they mentioned being able to pick your ascended weapon stats it was specifically from the Tequatl ascended weapons that will be coming in a few weeks.
We need other ways to get ascended weapons, we need this because crafting is not fun for anyone, and those of us like myself who don’t have much crafts at 400 are not willing to spend the time it takes to get to 500 crafting. So what other ways should We be able to get ascended weapons through? My first instinct is to use the Mystic Fountain, to do a similar type of crafting but with combining ascended crafting materials. Eventually like ledgendaries and their gifts you could make an ascended with strong enough ascended crafting materials.. I believe in this option because it would stop the materials from endlessly piling up in your bank. This method would be fair because crafting materials are acquired by playing the game and having fun. Also this same type of process is done for ascended back pieces.
(Don’t make this a complaint page it’s for suggestions. Also thank you to Anet because You guys get more complaints than You do compliments but you do truly great work. I’ve been in GW2 since beta and you do allot of hard work for us to enjoy the game the way we want to play it.)
Complete ascended weapons have a chance to drop anywhere that the materials used to make them drop.
So basically anywhere in the game but ironically, excluding fractals.
Well, the exact quote from the patch notes is:
“Ascended weapons can now drop anywhere ascended materials or other ascended items can be found.”
Other ascended items can be found in fractals (both from mobs and end chest), so I’d say there’s a chance you’ll get ascended weapons in fractals too. Of course the chance will be absolutely tiny, so it barely matters either way.
Fair point.
not sure how reddit calculated it but. It is not a static number. you start out only with a 10 luck increase after each percent, then it was a 20 luck increase each percent.
Im only at 66% and its now at a 50 luck increase.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1lny52/salvaged_2000_masterwork_armorsweapons_for/
Prepare 150 – 200g or you have no chance to get to 500. And ofcource you will probably need at least 2 professions so you will need another 150 – 200g for second profession. And ofcourse that will only get you to 500 you still need to farm tons of materials to get you weapons :-)
This is worst update Anet ever did. Game is now only about farming and nothing else.
This is simply not true. I didn’t spent a single copper crafting from 400-500 weapon smithing.
But I gathered all the materials myself and not everyone will have done that.
Also with a crafting booster I got most of the way to 425 just refining orichalcum ingots.
Reddit figures it’s in the neighborhood of 4.2 million.
It was needed because after a certain point karma because worthless.
I’ve got 2 million karma and nothing to do with it. I guess I could buy a bunch of orr jewel boxes and build an army of mini Risen Priests???
Can anyone confirm whether or not you can do the same dungeon over and over for 20 empyreal fragments?
I’m pretty sure you can but I’m also pretty sure they’ll be subject to the same DR that all the other final dungeon rewards are as well.
please tell what it says i can t see vids :/
It’s an interview with Colin Johanson and he confirms that precursor building is coming in 2013.
According to him it will likely be via crafting. (As a side, I hope they upgrade all precursor weapons to ascended tier)
Also, an entire new type of legendary. Probably an accessory. Woo. Just when you thought you were done with ascended trinkets..
Do we continue to get ‘Essence of Luck’ from daily/monthly instead of karma? Once Luck is maxed do we just continue to get another useless item that can’t be traded or forged or sold or anything else useful?
There should be an option on the daily and monthly, to either accept karma or magic find as the reward.
No mine is not maxed, that would be insane. I’m on 103%. Just thinking about the future…
No one is going to be maxing their luck any time soon.
If the thread on reddit is right it will take in the neighborhood of 4.2 million luck to reach 300% mf.
Roughly, with current prices on various things ranging from ectos to greens that’ll cost around 12000g.
That should give you some idea for how long it’s gonna take to max your magic find.

Not only that but a new type of legendary, probably a trinket. In 2013.
Oooh, it says published Sept 3 on the video, is this new? If this is new it makes me very happy. I thought the newest info was Linsey’s. Thanks very much for the link and the time-code on it so I could find the info quick.
As far as I know that’s from PAX which was this last weekend.
So contrary to what they initially claimed (that Ascended was planned all along), Colin specifically states in that interview that Exotic WAS supposed to be final tier and Ascended was added because they underestimated how quickly people would get Exotic.
Ignoring the fact that people like being able to get max stat gear quickly so they then only have to worry about aesthetics, here we have proven that ArenaNet did outright LIE back in November, and that Ascended WASN’T planned prior to release.
They said that back when they first announced ascended stuff. Old news is old.
Colin did say that they want Ascended to be the last tier- thank the six!

I’m at 53% and it takes 720 luck to raise it more.
If it keeps going at that rate it will probably be well over 3000 luck to level in the 200% range. I imagine getting to 300% mf will take quite a while.
haha, you’re dreaming. im at 88% and it takes 3000 already. It starts to ramp up very fast
The current formula we have: http://i.imgur.com/6vSDelC.png
Credit to supermatt314It’ll take 18500 to level from 200-201%
also 44,500 for 299-300 if anyone was wondering.
Wow that’s crazy.

You get 20 emypreal things from dungeons. And I’m pretty sure you can get it for repeating paths too.
Imo it’ll be far more time consuming to get dragonite.
Here’s my experience with collecting Dragonite
Maw – 4
Worm – 3
SB – 5
Shatterer – 21
Golem Mark II – 19-20
Claw of Jormag – 21
Temple of Melandru – 30
Seems like if you’re going for dragonite the lower level world bosses aren’t worth the time. Although they are quick.
Also both the empyreal star and dragonite ingot do not require a cool down of any sort. It seems like the only 2 materials that require the 24 hour wait are the Glob of Elder Spirit Residue and the Lump of Mithrillium.
I also like that the timers on those 2 particular items reset at the same time as the daily instead of 24 hours since you last made one. That’s very nice.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
I made 20g crafting from 400-500. lol
Of course I used 20g worth of orichalcum and acient logs so I guess I probably broke even. Even though I collected it all myself.
I’m fairly sure at least legendaries will level along, either automatically or by a simple MF recipe.
They said Legendaries are currently best in slot. They said nothing about it being best in slot for level 90.
Actually they have said legendaries would always be BiS even with a level cap increase. Which isn’t likely to happen for the better part of the next year.
This is the post I was refering to:
Not everyone gets to play this everyday and not everyone gets to play as long to get their dailies done. I know I’d never get the PvE daily done unless I solely focus on them, but what’s the fun in that? People don’t want to feel that they HAVE to log in every single day to make sure they get their daily so they don’t feel like they’re being left behind.
And I said that you don’t. Given what we know about the process to make the weapons. You only need to do a daily 2-3 times a week if that to get a print for a specific weapon.
If people want different kinds of weapons then obviously that’s going to require more effort, right? Unless you think you should just be given ascended weapons for little to no effort?
And once again you can have the same crafting profession on multiple characters if you absolutely need to speed up the process. Since some of the materials are account bound and some can even be sold/bought on the market.
The worst part and by far more tedious will be gathering materials from world bosses, jumping puzzles, and dungeons. Next to that doing your daily and getting laurels is a non issue.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
Charr has the best animations for hammer, hands down, looks very feral and cool.
The Charr hundred blades looks hilariously stupid though… Lol
Most charr animations are pretty bad. Which is par for the course as far as charr are concerned.
Well Anet HQ is located in Washington on the West Coast US. So it’ll likely be between 8am and 6pm pst.
Usually they let them out the door pretty early in the morning though.
Actually in the live stream the other day they said the salvage kit does in fact matter.
The better the kit the better your chances of getting a light of luck and/or more of them per salvage.
Now I don’t know if that is actually true but that is what was said during the live stream.
So if that’s true I’m really thanking anet for the free 150 or so mystic stones they’ve given me in the last month from ap chests.
P.S. Anyone else get flashbacks to Aion when they hear “light of luck”?
(edited by fellyn.5083)
I like my T2 heavy, looks and works really well. However the ascended armor looks on Charr, I’ll just say I have no plans to re-fit my Charr.
Same here. When ascended armor is out this year I’m prepared to be fully disappointed with how it will look on my charr.
My guess is that I’ll be investing in some transmutation stones in the not to distant future. I’ve only got 1 left.
I like the game too…and I’ve been playing since the first beta. It’s taken some unexpected twists in how they present the game, which some people haven’t liked, but it suits me perfectly.
My biggest advice to you is don’t let the forums get you down. The game is way fun for me…the forums…not so much. lol
Basically this. I might not like a lot of the choices anet has made with the game, specifically the gem store and rng boxes of super fun time, or just rng in general (I’m lookin at you mystic forge). But at the end of the day I’m still playing and having fun, for the most part.
Yeah…people keep pulling all kinds of numbers out of nowhere. Some people claim they are 11% better, others claim they are 8% better, while still more people say it’s only a 3% difference.
I wish GW2 was balanced so well that a 3% difference in stats would make a difference. But it’s not and never will be.
You don’t have to do your daily every single day to get enough laurels to make a weapon. You can do it 2 or 3 times a week and still have the proper amount by the time you’ve pulled together all the other materials.
The premise of the thread was multiples. If players were only going for one weapon on one character, there really wouldn’t be an issue. The thread is referring to multiple weapons on multiple characters, thus the issue.
edit: I assumed the multiple character bit as it is the exact same premise
And? Is it not fair that if you want a lot of rewards then you need to put in a lot of effort?
You’re basically saying you want to put forth minimal effort to get maximum rewards.
What does time gating have to do with effort?
People in this very thread said they didn’t want to do their dailies yet they want multiple ascended weapons.
Doing daily = effort.

You’re basically saying you want to put forth minimal effort to get maximum rewards. That’s what this entire argument comes down to.
If you want to make a bunch of different ascended weapons I’m sorry but you’re gonna have to suck it up and do your dailys. If you buckle down and do it then it doesn’t take more than half an hour. If you’re not willing to put in that much effort a day then I don’t know what to tell you.
Besides that, laurels are the last part I’d be worrying about. They’re easy to get. We know how to get those and what is involved to get them. What we don’t know is how horrible the drop rates are for everything else. Complaining about the one part of the process that doesn’t invovle rng, sheesh.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
I’m confused. Not taking ap chests into consideration you can get a potential 485 laurels a year.
That’s enough for 97 ascended weapons plans, assuming 5 laurels per plan which can be used more than once, or 16 ascended amulets. What are you doing with your laurels that that’s not enough? Are you saying you have 16 alts or that you need 4 different infinite cat tonics?
I don’t include rings, trinkets, and back items in the list because those are more easily gotten elsewhere.
Also all the crafting items are account bound. Some can be even sold on the market. The weapons themselves are account bound until equipped.
If you felt so inclined you could have several characters with weapon smithing to speed up the process.
The worst part is going to be gathering the materials that drop from world bosses and so on. That part is what is going to determine how long it takes to make your weapons.
The system really isn’t as bad as most people are thinking it’s going to be.
I concede the part about the looks and transmutation crystals though. Not everyone will care for the looks of the ascended weapons and I’m on the fence about that myself. I liked the look of the rifle and great sword we’ve seen so far, but what of the other weapons?

The only part you need laurels for is to buy the weapon plan itself. And if I understood right is the last part in the process. And it’s only 5. Unless there is something they didn’t show in the live stream from the other day.
You don’t have to do your daily every single day to get enough laurels to make a weapon. You can do it 2 or 3 times a week and still have the proper amount by the time you’ve pulled together all the other materials.
Q) Will your exotic weapons disappear when the patch hits on tuesday?
A) Nope.
Q) Do you need ascended weapons for any sort of content to complete said content?
A) Again, nope.
It doesn’t force anyone to do anything and it certainly doesn’t “kill” anything. If people would stop thinking they need to have their ascended weapons all done at once and instead picture it as long term thing much like legendaries then they’d be way better off and stress themselves out less over them.
The only concern I have about ascended weapons it that they will cause unwarranted elitism.
Q) Can you theoretically kill most dungeon bosses naked?
A) Yes.
Q) Would I want to attempt it, especially with PUGs?
A) Good grief, no.
The difference between Exotic and Ascended is ~8%, around the same as if you had not worn pants to the dungeon.
So? Answer the question? Are your exotics going to disappear when the patch hits tomorrow? Are you going to be unable to play at all until you get ascended weapons?
I think your exotic weapons will still work just fine until they can be replaced with an ascended one in 2 weeks, three weeks, or maybe even 4.
And haven’t actually looked at the stats myself but people really need to come together and decide on a number. I’ve seen some people claim it’s only a 3% increase while others claim it’s an 11% increase. And you claim it’s an 8% increase. So which is it?
Luarels -
365 from dailies
120 from monthly
+ how many ever you can get from AP chestsAn anet rep has stated it will take on average 2 weeks to make an ascended weapon. That’s enough time to gather enough laurels just from your daily alone to make 2 weapons.
I think there are more than enough laurels that they shouldn’t be an issue to get.
Yeah, because everyone uses one character with one weapon and with one stat set up for one build.
All they had to do since weapons can’t be traded on the tp anyway is make all mats for ascended items account-bound. Remove the time-gate and everyone could make these items at their own pace.
But now, I have to consciously do dailies. I have to earn AP. I have to do Monthlies if I want even one of these items to be the best my character can be.Not to mention the cash grab involved here. I like the way my characters look. Once I get one of these items, going to have to buy Tranny crystals all over again.
In the end, I know I don’t have to be here and will leave once it stops being fun for me. Just don’t want to see this heading down a path to make me want to leave. We don’t know that another tier or even level cap expansion isn’t coming. The good thing about this game is no sub. So if I actually want a purposeful tread mill game I will head to the many of which I have subbed before that do it better.

I noticed that as well and was wondering if it’s actually working.
Maybe that part of the culling only works in wvw? Maybe there weren’t enough people there to trigger the down graded particle effects?
Unless I missed it anet hasn’t said what specifically it takes to trigger that particular feature so it would be nice to know.

A lot of the stuff that was listed came in the form of an expansion which you had to pay for.
As far as GW2 goes we haven’t had to pay a cent to keep playing after the initial sale.
I think that should be included in the list. Although that doesn’t change the fact that the list still feels lopsided.
And what Marnick said.
nothing is hard enough to kill that we need more weapon damage
ascended weapons aren’t needed right now
I think that’s a really funny point, actually, since I agree.
A lot of people are trying to defend them by saying “those stats don’t matter”. Well, they do. They aren’t catastrophic changes even in wvw though. So in a sense, yes, they do matter, just not in a catastrophic fashion— it’s effectively a strawman. 10% matters somewhat. What if Arrow Carts got 5% stronger? Would you all be fine if we buffed Hundred Blades by 10%? I honestly don’t think Death Shroud lasts long enough— 5% will do there. Nobody’s arguing that they’ll get one shot in every fight, but it’s still a real disadvantage.
So I’m going to come up with this: If the stats difference don’t matter, why bother having them at all? You don’t need them to complete the content we have no; there’s no harder content to have. So in that case, it should be fine if Ascended Weapons are only 1% stronger, or hell not even stronger at all.
At this point people will get mad and use the circular logic of “It’s coming anyways, and thus you are X”. Which might be true too, but hey I find it funny anyways.
I don’t even oppose vertical progression (just that it is frequently implemented problematically), but this should be fun if anyone can give a legitimate argument.
I think you missed the point of his comment. If I get what he’s saying right he is implying that people who think they need a full set of ascended weapons in 2 weeks are jumping the gun a little bit. There is no where in the game that needs ascended weapons to be competitive in.
And from what anet has said they’re going to give us more traits to work with by the end of 2013 so you might just get your 5% stronger death shroud or 10% stronger 100 blades.
I think that people are trying to create scenarios where they have to have a full set of ascended weapons as soon as they possible can and that their exotic weapons are going to be worthless which just isn’t the case.
