I was going to congratulate this player for besting some of my Maguuman comrades, however the trash talking and combat log-out completely destroyed any respect I had for this guy.

Edit: Can’t seem to edit out that giant space in the quote

No offense to you but until we were matched against Maguuma I never experienced anyone combat log before. That doesn’t make it okay, of course. But you can’t get on that guys case for doing it when people on your own server do it too.

How Much Crit % is Needed?

in Warrior

Posted by: fellyn.5083

fellyn.5083

Not much. Unlike GW1, where critical hits were more important for the use of individual skills, in GW2 criticals are more of just a DPS increase mechanic rather than a spiking mechanic. As a result, having a high critical rate usually means you’re sacrificing a massive amount of either resilience or base damage power. Criticals trigger almost all the time, and most of the useful sigils use only criticals as their triggers.

Most Warrior builds trigger Fury all the time, since it’s loaded all across skills. Actually having it up is an afterthought. You may as well just assume a Warrior has an innate critical chance of around 25%. Which honestly triggers pretty often, and certainly enough to get your sigils working (especially considering their own internal cooldowns).

You probably would like to have at least a +10% or so chance with almost every build, so you’re critting about 30-40% of the time. In contrast I think once you crest 60% you’re probably wasting a lot of utility and build synergy just so you can have a bigger number than everyone else.

Uhm what… that math does not add up. How does a 10% chance to crit equal critting 30-40% of the time?

Incidentlly, Mesmer is one of the worst classes for attacking battlements and entrench positions for this same reason (serious lack of indirect fire)

No I’m pretty sure if they reduced the effectiveness of portals greatly it would help with the other issues quite a bit.

An entire zerg of 50+ people appearing out of nowhere is just stupid. It highlights both the rendering and culling issues. I’ve been on both ends of it and it doesn’t change how I feel.

It allows far to many people to be far to mobile negating the entire purpose of sieges on both the offensive and defensive.

I would also like to add that in it’s current state there is little to no tactics invovled in it’s use. It’s just port zerg and mash aoe buttons to victory. Reducing the amount of people who can go through a portal would greatly increase the need for you know..actual tactics.

100% World Map in Expansions?!

Hi.

I’m really wondering about this. Since this month there will be a new Area to explore, what is going to happen with the 100% world map completion and it’s rewards?

Are thoose new areas that will come not counted in the world map achiv? Will the Achiv “Reset” and we must do it again? Will it stay at 100% even with new maps, points, vistas, etc..?

Sorry my English.
:)

Just like with GW1 any new areas they add to the game will have their own exploration achievements.

Or it could be that they have a new way they are going to do dungeons from here on out as advertised.

Personal I think the Island we’ll be going to in the update will be the Battle Isles/Isle of the Nameless from gw1.

Nothing to base that theory on but wouldn’t it be interesting?

Why do you guys complain all the time? Our server has the least population and coverage on maps. Most of the time we’re outnumbered 3-1 but whenever we have any chance at equal numbers, we wipe both Darkhaven and Dragonbrand together and all we see are complaints on the forums. Btw we saw your hackers that flashes into the 3rd floor. Jumped down to his own death, screen shot taken and reported.

Maguuma still playing the outnumbered card. How surprising.

fellyn.5083

I think a good way to go about changing the precursor drop rate is to make it so the achievement points you get for doing things increase the chances of getting a precursor. Like every 100 achievement points get you 1% more likely for a precursor to drop from an enemy or from the forge. That way it stays RNG to a point but from doing other things in the game you are more likely to get one.

The problem is there are people out there who have 5000 up to even 10000 achievement points.

And as we get more content that will inevitably bring with it more achievements, too.

You should learn how to dodge then. I’m “full ’zerkers” and rarely go down all the while melting faces. But then I rarely do dungeons with full pug groups.

If you’re gonna complain about what random strangers use (which they are entitled to use whatever they want) then as I said earlier. There is already solution for that problem, and it’s not to create a thread on the forums complaining about one particular build.

Because at the end of the day, there is always going to be a build people think is inferior to one they have in mind as being “the best”. After 5 signets it will be duel axes, and then greatswords and so on.

Focus on fixing bugs, even at sacrifice of content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fellyn.5083

fellyn.5083

I have a lot of patience. I didn’t complain about bugs for the first month. I mostly remained quiet the second month. My thinking was that these are complicated issues, so they require time to fix.

But it’s been more than two months now. On Darkhaven, the Balthazar, Melandru, Grenth, and Arah chains are all bugged. For the Balthazar and Melandru chains, the escort NPCs just stopped moving. For Grenth, the NPC that’s supposed to build the cannon just disappeared. For Arah, the chain just won’t start; it hasn’t started all day.

Plinx also bugged Thursday. Plinx just fell to the floor and never moved again. Only a lucky server reset the day after fixed it. I can’t imagine what would have happened if there was no server reset and the other events bugged as well. Cursed Shore would have been practically useless.

None of these are new bugs. They’ve been around since day one. These important chains have constantly broken.

So when will these be fixed? I appreciate all the content that came with Halloween and might come in Nov. 15, but if I have to chose between those additions and these old events finally working, I’m leaning on the latter.

You do realize that the people who would be fixing the bugs in the game would be an entirely different group of people than those that would work on the actual game content right?

They can in fact, do both at the same time.

Put a limit on the amount of people that can use the portal at a time. 5 per portal. Problem solved.

I don’t understand why there is no upper limit on how many people can use any given portal. Doesn’t make sense to me. Even if they put a usage counter on it portals will still be extremely useful.

Personally I would like to see these prices cut to the price of faction armor. For one the cultural armor of most races look like garbage. Charr got some good pieces so do the Norn, but look at humans, our heavy armor look like over sized arms. chest. legs with tiny shoulders and Shredder’s (TMNT).

http://www.thetechnodrome.com/images/albums/Old_Images/Shredder/shredder.jpg

To the people who say this is part of the end game. Is the end game so lacking that I need to put time and effort into buying some ugly armor? kitten

I been 80 since about 3 days after pre sale release. I done most of the game content, explored the whole world, done loads of wvw and elite events. Nothing really gives you a viable way to obtain this not even buying gems. To obtain 119g on gems alone you need to spend about 250$.

Now people say watch the market. Only worthy things in the market are things that you really can’t come by with normal or semi hard core effort, such as pre legendary weapons. Now who would trade a pre legendary weapon for a set of armor with horrible stats?

Over all cultural armor should be an incentive to choosing one race over another and personal taste, not some kind of end gave achievement. Specially since many people don’t give a S….T about achievements.

You said the armor is ugly. Why do you care how much if costs if it’s not appealing to you to use?

That, to me, makes no sense. And I’ve also got enough for my full t3 set and I play the game regularly. I don’t play the market and I haven’t bought gold.

In the future I recommend not making statements as fact when they are the furthest thing from that.

Playing the game is a huge time sink. Saying something takes to much time in a video game is completely ironic – because that’s the entire point of a video game. To be a time sink.

And once again, you guys realize it’s purely optional right?

I thought the point was to have fun? Silly me. And Anet has now realized players are not into time sink dungeons because there is no real reward – drops are trash, token loot is no better than crafted. So – they decide to force us into them to get the monthly … Anet realizes 80s are getting bored and time sinks are the hope of keeping players in-game buying gems and such, but this is a fail decision.

Improve loot and players will come. Don’t force it on us with a change no one wants.

Good job on missing the point completely. Just like playing the game all, if you don’t want to do it you don’t have to. It really is that simple.

And even if people do spend real money on gold to do it (legally, via gem store), we should be thanking those people for supporting Anet for us.

But yeah, I’ve yet to see any proof that people are actually doing that in great enough numbers that it actually makes any difference what so ever. Just peoples made up theories.

Zeki I think you’ve missed the point entirely. No one wants it to be ‘easy’ – they just want it not to be a random occurance. This is the main issue.

If you don’t think people want it to be easy, you haven’t been reading.

This argument is flawed. Any player can put 4 items in the forge and get a precursor in 3 seconds.

This statement is flawed^ If it was that easy then this thread probably wouldn’t exist right? People do want it to be easy..they don’t want to have to earn the gold and then possibly fail on obtaining their precursor..they want a guarantee that they will get one.

I remain firm on my views regarding this topic. The only changes i would like to see regarding legendary weapons would be slightly better stats then a regular exotic..now that’s a topic worthy of discussion!

Reliable doesn’t mean easy. It could take 1000 hours to get just the precursor and a lot of people probably wouldn’t care as long as they could actually visually see that they are making progress towards their goal.

As was stated, I was under the impression the Cultural Armor’s prices were raised because it was being bought and sold for a higher profit. But it seems like the prices were just a huge typo that was skipped over during development.

If this was the case and this is how much ANet intended the prices to be, I’m fine with it. I’d repeat that I was under the impression the previous prices were the correct prices. And I’ll leave this thread now.

It wasn’t the cultural armor that people were exploiting. It was the faction armors that had their prices increased.

Cultural armors have been the same price since the betas, from what I remember.

The cultural armor set prices

I agree the prices are too much, they should indeed be expensive but not so much. Also there really is no middle ground for a player to strive for, either you hit Lv80 and quickly get everything you want or work non stop on getting your legendary/cultural tier 3 sets, there’s no middle ground for all players to strive for.

One thing’s for sure though, if they DO plan on lowering the cost – I would hope they either do that really soon or at least let us know there are plans to lower the cost for the set in the future. Because it would just be inhumane to make someone sweat blood working their way to getting 120 gold to just have the price on the set lowered soon after they buy it.

I think a fair price would be around some 60 gold total for the full set.

As far as prices go. I think the gold price is fine, currently. But then I think it would be awesome if they reduced the gold price by about 50 to 75% and tacked on an additional karma cost. So like the coat for example would go from 30g down to 15g, and cost an additional 50k karma.

I’m not sure what would be a good karma to gold ratio but I think no one would protest over that change.

All I can read is that people comment on “The cost does not live up to stats and therefore the price should be reduced a lot more so I can buy it.”

It exists for one reason, and that is appearance, it’s a vanity item for players who strives for it.

If the stats are bad, don’t buy it, buy another set of armour with better stats.

You have not been reading my entire post then, have you? Read the rest of it.

It does not exist only for appearance, else it would be a transmutation item like the Hall of Monuments rewards. It was designed to be used immediately, hence why it comes with stats carefully chosen to represent each race’s flavor of combat.

Do you really think it’s better to have to spend on the T3, transmutation stones, and another set of armor – just to get the skin? Justify your answer.

Actually it does exist purely for appearance. You cannot get those skins anywhere else in the game and they are for the specific race only. How can yo say they don’t exist purely for that?

And if you’ll notice. There is only 1 set of cultural armor. That is because Anet intended for you to transmute them onto an armor set of your choice that has stats you want.

Think beyond just “OMG EXPENSIVE” and you’ll realize there is a reason for the price.

P.S. I haven’t spent a cent on fine transmutation stones or keys. I got them purely through playing the game. Quit being dramatic.

Biggest lie in this thread, especially because you purposely ignore the reason for the thread and give your non-sense 2 cents that doesn’t help anything.

The cultural prices are way way too high. No one is ever going to spend that much on a full set, which is why after months of playing this game I’ve yet to see ONE player in a full-cultural suit. Not ONE.

I’ve almost got full charr t3 cultural, I just need a few more gold for the coat. Don’t say no one has it. I’m proud to say my warrior looks positively bad kitten

And oh yeah. I decided to get it after I’d already put at least 35 hours and a hundred runs or so into CoF to get a full CoF set.

You missed the point that people are not asking how to do dungeons, but why we have to.

Edit: Also once more about the WvW comparison. WvW can be soloed in under an hours time. I can queue for a battle right now with 0 kills, and have all 50 within 30 minutes to an hour. It is a very simple requirement.

You could argue Dungeons are just as easy, but you’d be wrong. In addition to traveling to said dungeon and clearing events to make it available, you have to find four competent players, and hope they stick around for the duration. And that’s just for 1 dungeon. Sure, you could probably repeat the same dungeon til you completed the monthly. Sounds fun right? Repeating the same content.

Nobody will convince me that dungeons are fun. That is my opinion. That is how I feel about the subject. You are entitled to disagree and form your own opinions, just know that mine will not change.

The solution is simple. Don’t do it this month. I mean, you realize it’s purely optional right?

That’s where we disagree.

I think 67 hours of investment (remember you also get gold and drops from dungeons, it is not a pure sink) is far, far too little, and is in line with making legendary weapons bland and common.

I feel the fair figure should be closer to ~150hr to be on par with the current roadblock, which is the time necessary to farm roughly ~300 gold.

My personal opinion is that the figure for any guaranteed method should be much higher, something like 500 hrs minimum. The 100% achievement suggestion, by my best guess, would take that much time or longer! (Jumping puzzles are probably one of the easiest categories. Might take you 3 hours for the whole category if you’re efficient + have the solutions ready. That can easily be eliminated if you feel that for some reason these are unfair…)

That’s 67 hours plus the hundreds of hours you’ll need to get everything else.

Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

I would say 67 hours is more than enough of a time investment time to get a precursor.

The issue I have with the achievement rout is that there are people out there who want a legendary weapon but simply do not have the capabilities to do all the achievements. Specifically the jumping puzzles. And I’m not talking about people who are lazy or just bad, but disabled gamers who can’t do them through no fault of their own.

I have spend more than 12 hours trying to finish it with no success .
90% of the time standing still wasting time and waiting for the progress bar to fill up – meanwhile eating up remaining time on my gem shop speed booster. Which did not help anyway.

It made me hate every player who is Norn or Charr .

Was this designed with hardcore masochists in mind ? Certainly not for holiday event fun.

So you hate norn and charr characters for something they had absolutely no control over? You do realize the sight blocking problem affects them as well, right? I should know I have one.

My first thoughts after about 10 failed attempts was that they need to make it a solo instance. But about half an hour later I had it finished and I didn’t blame anyone or anything for my failures because I saw that it is actually really pretty easy.

You should try to do the same.

When people make topics to complain about something that clearly is not and won’t ever be part of this game mechanics they are just complaining for the sake of it and things like that can lead to infractions. If you want to make a post about a suggestion you have, at least try to make a plausible one. Else you are just a troll and won’t ever be taken seriously by anyone, including the devs.

Because it’s completely unheard of for MMOs to add new skills with expansions.

This must be your first, I take it?

Adding new skills/weapons. Yes. Completely changing the core mechanic of the game. No.

Swappable skills would not be a core mechanic change. We can already do that with slot skills. Whats to stop them from doing that with weapon skills as well? Give me 20 pistol skills on my dual pistol engineer and let me pick 5 for the situation I need, swapping them out of combat like slot skills. That alone would alleviate 90% of my boredom with combat.

I probably play MMOs for way longer than you…

DBZ (the full name is censored? 0_o) World (a MUD) in 1997 and then finally got my own machine to play Ultima Online in 99.

The OP’s complaint was about having more skill bars, not more skills.

I do, however, have a hope that in the future they add more weapon specific skills for us to unlock. Perhaps in mastery tiers for weapons. And also entire new weapon types. I see both of those as feasible and likely.

you’re not allowed to complain on gw2 forums because moderators will give you an infraction (thats what they do to me, i don’ even get explanation about these random infractions)

and yes, on a certain mmorpg on which you can fly and its name started with A – most classes had over 50 active shortcuts during pvp. Gw2 wont evr be like that because its too focused around casual players, who won’t be able to keep up with more skills and they’ll be bad at pvp and won’t get carried by their op mesmers/guardians

GW2 is like this because in GW1 you only ever had 8. Max. At any time. And it seemed to work just fine then.

The entire point of exploring is to take your time doing it. And considering how the map is “uncovered” you have no more reason to go exploring if mounts were added than you do now.

And then can you imagine the kittentorm it would cause for them to add mounts into the game and then immediately afterwords say they will be disabled in all aspects of pvp?

Considering monthlies now give 10 karma jugs, each worth 4,500 karma…….I think it’s fair.

And the fact that karma buffs work with the jugs. It’s about 70000+ karma.

I would like to have a mount

well by that logic we should also remove speed buffs. that’s all a mount is, a speedbuff. and frankly when my staff speed buff last 9s vs what other classes get i’d really like a mount.

and there’s like zero waypoints in wvwvw, which must make lots and lots of people totally frustrated when they die. i know it does to me.

anyway i have yet to see a good argument against mounts.

There are few waypoints in wvwvw by design. It adds a consequence to dieing.

Dual wield axes?

Dual wielding axes doesn’t really give you a whole lot more damage. Whirling axe is nice, yes, but the 4 is fairly useless, and axe skills don’t give very much utility. Main hand axe does some pretty heavy damage anyway, but you can pair it with an offhand mace for a ranged knockdown and vulnerability on the 4. I run main hand axe and offhand shield and I have a lot of fun with it, but if you just want big damage, mace may be a slightly better choice.

Yeah cuz getting fury and hitting everything in front of you twice in a 180 degree arc is bad. The #4 skill is also a great adrenaline builder, which is nice if you’re using eviscerate.

Aion had a decent solution to rendering huge amounts of players. It would basically turn off all player models and just show the name plate. To me that was a very acceptable solution and it worked well with fort sieges that involved hundreds of players.

@Snow

That is the company’s perogative. They are a company. They do need to take their profits somewhere. If someone is stupid enough to spend that much on a virtual item that offers cosmetics mostly, that’s their choice.

@Fellyn

Everything relies on RNG. Your damage rolls, are randomly generated. All drops are randomly generated.
That said, it would make more sense for it to be less reliant on luck. Still, I like the RNG for the fact that not everyone will get it.

You still miss the entire point completely. Go back and read the thread and then post again when you understand what we’re after.

Keep things the way they are. Loving it.

Ignore all the rage. Finally an end game that requires effort instead of an end game that’s dead and gone 1 month into a game. ( Diablo 3 anyone? )

Idc if it’s RNG. It’ll feel like more of an accomplishment when you get it.

Hate this “new generation” who expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter.

Do you really want to get this as a freebie and then be like.. "okay..so I have this. Now what? oh right. I have nothing left to accomplish.. Better quit the game anyway. “ARENANET.. Y U NO MOAR ENDGAME?”

Did you even bother with reading the thread? I’m gonna go with no, you didn’t.

Not one single person has asked to be handed a precursor on a silver platter like you’re claiming. For the thousandth time. We just want a way to get one that doesn’t rely on RNG. Why is that so hard to understand and what in that simple sentence says “we want it to be easy to get”?

Try reading the thread before you post thinking you have even the slightest clue what people are asking for or are talking about. Because if you had you’d realize we’re actually asking for more complex ways to get them that are actually fun and don’t involve lazy game mechanics like rng.

Besides that how on earth can you think getting anything through rng is an accomplishment when 1 person can get it first try and for another it takes 300? That doesn’t even begin to make sense.
