They uh back tracked on their Manifesto and all the things they said for the past 5 years so what makes you think they won’t back track again? Whatever things they say now can be changed at a whim later on. They already did it once; so what’s to stop them from doing it again and again?
How did they go back on their manifesto? They are NOT adding a gear grind… they are adding a new tier nothing more…. whats more is that you can only get that new gear from that new dungeon…. Also what if the game had launched with Ascended Gear? would they still “be going against their manifesto” as you say? No they would not be… your only complaining because they are adding it post launch. So your argument is invalid.
No. They are going back on their manifesto. I have full exotics (other than the backpiece) on 3 of my characters. Now I have to grind to get full ascended.
And yes. I would be still be complaining if the game was launced with rares being the top tier and they added exotics. Why? Simply because they are forcing me to grind to keep up.
You don’t know if you have to grind for it or not. I’m fairly certain the ring and back piece will be given to everyone attending the event this weekend.
It’s very likely you’ll get the full set of ascended gear just by playing the game. No grinding needed. Not that you needed to grind to get full exotics in the first place.
The vocal minority are the ones who got them to back out on their philosophy in the first place by ADDING a treadmill, sooo..yeah Anet please don’t cave to them. If you read the merged thread, there’s literally about 8000 people are angry about this vs 100 who are in support of ascended.
So that 8100 people represent every single person in the game then?
Seriously people? The amount of people posting on the forum, even that 8000 post thread if every single post was unique, which they aren’t, don’t even represent 10% of the people playing this game right now.
Get over yourself.
They said they won’t add a new tier every 3 months. But hey, 4 months is totes fine!
In this case, I actually believe they won’t release another tier. I think they’re hoping the ascended and legendary gear will hold people over until their expansion. Then they’ll raise the level cap and add level new appropriate gear within the existing tiers and go “see! we didn’t add any more tiers (but your level 80 stuff are going to be obsolete anyway).”
They’ve said they wouldn’t add more levels to the game. I don’t have an exact quote on where/when they said it, to show you though.
The content locusts finished the content in less then 1 month. GW2 lacks content. It has less content than prophecies alone.
Adding more content can be done without adding things that alienate a sizable portion of your players. Those people cannot be appeased, they will have every new item before the next week ends and ask for another helping.
Sizeable according to who? You’ve managed to poll every single player in the game and ask them how they feel about these changes?
Forum posters probably account for less than 5% of the people playing the game. Even in the 3000 post thread, if every post was from a unique visitor that’s still only a fraction of the people playing the game.

Never-ending vertical progression (especially through gear) as a way to keep players engaged is a spectacularly terrible design paradigm, and it needs to die. Sorry OP, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Having said that, if they can manage to make this a one-time thing and we don’t end up at level 100 doing 600,000 damage per hit with our Exalted Greatswords with +700 Power in the next 1-2 years, it won’t dissuade me from enjoying the game.
They said they would not be adding new tiers of armor after this from what I’ve read. They said they added it to take advantage of new mechanics for dungeons in Lost Shores and future content updates.

You’re reading to much into it. Fear makes people see the worst in a situation. Try not to be so negative.
Its not fear, you are not reading enough into it. This is how people do PR spins. You read it on the surface level and they assure you everything is fine and dandy. Then when the time comes and they need to make a complete 180 they have those PR statements to fall back on to cover their behinds. At which point you as the consumer can’t say kitten to because that’s just you misinterpreting.
Sure. If you want to think the worst of everyone. Even now Anet has done nothing to shake my trust with the decisions they’ve made in their games. From the first weeks of GW1 when they started nerfing farming spots, through all the changes they made with that game up until now. And there was a lot of controversial changes made to that game that had equally big reactions from the playerbase.
At this point people are just over reacting based on fears and assumptions when we don’t even know what the big picture is. Wait until later to have a big reaction if/when they ever add new tiers of armor.

Could they have adjusted exotic armors? Maybe? But then ever since release people have been complaining that exotic armors were too easy to get and that they wanted legendary armor. This is going to bridge that gap.
As of right now, there is no stat gap between exotic and legendary.
The appeal for legendary is purely cosmetic and yet people are pursuing it.
Now they are putting a stat gap between exotic and legendary with no gap between the new tier and legendary.
This doesn’t fix a progression leap, it creates one!
The gap I spoke of was in difficulty to obtain, not stats.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
You guys don’t even know if it is easier to get all they said is it’s a new way, so just wait and see, Jesus all assume the worst could be just as hard as getting t6 mats if u farm them all there trying to do is take away the high gold factor for an item , could take months to savage it , point is you don’t know !!!
Actually in 2 separate posts they said first: they would be adjusting how hard it is to get precursors in the upcoming build, and in the future they would be making new ways to get them. For the first part I’m assuming that means drop rates and mystic forge proc chances.
And in the second: they would be adding some sort of scavenger hunt. This is what the first post alluded to.

What’s wrong with this kind of tactic? Tactic is tactic, easy deal. QQ more
What’s wrong with it is that a group standing in one place is used as a hard counter for 75% of the skills in the game.
Why does it make sense that if your group stands in one place it negates skills that are designed to actively punish that behavior? Why do they have dodge if this mechanic tactic was intended?
I don’t have problems with people standing in one place. That’s fine. What I have issue with is the fact that aoe skills are worthless against the tactic. If they want the tactic to “stay” in the game they need to uncap how many targets aoe skills can hit, or at least increase the cap. Now aoe shouldn’t be able to hit all 40 people in a clumped group but it should be able to hit more than 3 to 5.
It just doesn’t make any sense. All it is is taking advantage of flaws (that can be fixed) in the games design, I would hardly consider it a real tactic.

I recently switched to axe/mace. It trumps axe/axe in just about every way.
Frontal cone aoe knockdown/interupt coupled with unlimited vulnerability debuffs especially if you throw “On my mark!” in the mix. Both axe #2 and mace #4 give 4 stacks of vulnerability and if a fight drags on it’s pretty easy to get a full 25 stacks on your target.
That being said axe/axe is still good for farming Orr/plinx.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
While condition damage isn’t affected by armor it’s also not affected by power. It’s vertical damage scaling is actually quite bad.
Aside from that what is the point of having more precision if you have no precision damage to increase it’s effectiveness?
OP is vocal minority.
Stick to what you said for years in blog posts, AMAs, manifesto videos, interviews, at the gamescoms.
Gear grind is lazy bad game design and it ruins fun.
Where did they ever say exotic was intended to be the final tier of armor? You seem in the know so I figure you’re a good person to ask this question.
Perspective?
I bought a product that was supposed to have horizontal progression in it and absolutely no vertical progression.
but after I paid, suddenly I’m being server stuff with vertical progression.
So it’s okay because the price was lower than other games?
What exactly am I supposed to put in perspective?
I made an informed purchase, I’ve consulted all available sources to make sure I’ll get horizontal progression and no vertical progression!I’m glad you like vertical progression better than horizontal progression, but while you might feel like a lottery winner when you got your favourite type of game while paying for something that was to be completely different (why didn’t you read product description I don’t know), the vertical progression is something I want nothing to do with whatsoever.
There is absolutely nothing to put into perspective here.
Well then you should have stopped when you realized there was more than 1 tier of gear in the first 15 levels.
She can create her characters on a different server and move when it’s not full. The status changes almost by the other. Try later at night.
It’s a strong utility yes, but what part of it exactly is overpowered?
Portals are strong vs bad/unorganised servers. There are only a limited number of places a mesmer can hide in a tower, stick your face in those and you’re golden.
If it’s a fight in the open ground, move away from the shiny pink disc, and aoe it.
If your keep/tower/SM gets taken due to a mesmer portal, thats all on you
Every part of it. No other single skill in the game can have as big of an impact on a siege on both the offensive and defensive.
I couldn’t care less. I have all the materials I need
And this is why GW2 is going to hurt itself. Apathy
Annoy a small fraction or previously contented players with each patch so they end up leaving, in order to please a whiny minority who are unappeasable anyway (At first it was dungeons were too hard, now legends are too rare, next the is porridge too hot and the bed too soft), but since the majority doesn’t get crapped on with each patch that’s ok right?
Well… no.
Because the players who were on-board with the GW2 manifesto aren’t the ones whining, they’re also the core you want to keep, because appeasing whining just leads to more whining as it proves to the player base they can manipulate the devs into doing things they want that may not be good for the game’s integrity overall (ie. making the best armour only available in dungeons)
It’s hard to get orichalcum ore or ancient timber? It’s hard to get powerful bloods and other t6 mats? No it’s not. If anything they need to be more expensive.
No crafting required:
“Players will be able to acquire Ascended Rings in the Fractals of the Mists dungeon, and Ascended items worn on the back can be acquired through special Mystic Forge recipes.”
source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
Doesn’t mean there won’t be crafting options for ascended items. If they don’t want crafting professions to become obsolete they have to have crafted ascended options. Simple as that.
If I remember correctly in that same post they also said there would be new crafting materials in the dungeon. So, yeah…
I can see you read the part about my guilds opinion and skipped straight to my comments on the vocal “minority” and completely ignored my concerns for the economy which is my personal concern and standpoint on all this.
I don’t give a rats kitten about how common the skins are, more common the better in fact from my standpoint as a trader. More people to sell to
The economy is already pretty shaken up, lot of traders getting fed up and pissed off with their markets being constantly crushed and having to find new business opportunities (Which are getting slimmer with each shake-up). Killing the precursor market WILL have a profound impact on the game economy and that’ll end in another big economic shake-up.
Do you enjoy economic instability and skyrocketting prices of essential items?
I couldn’t care less. I have all the materials I need, for the most part. The only concern I will have after this is lodestones. But I think Anet will be doing something about those, as well.
Whining majority? You do realize the people posting on the forums don’t represent even 5% of the population of the game right?
Who cares if they are rare? All that matters is if you like the skin or not.
Exactly. People worry to much about what others have. Play for what you like and that’s it.
hell no
btw ANet: false advertising is in many countries illegal. that teh game do NOT have a gear treadmill was one of the biggest sell-points. gonna check this up asap.
Also a kitten in the face to those insane lies in that blog-post: do not even think about mixing GW1 into this.
What did they falsely advertise? No where on the product you purchased does it say GW2 does not and will not ever have “stat progression”.
I know what you’re trying to get it but quit being overly dramatic.
The poll isn’t very expressive of how I feel. I have no problem with them adding a tier of gear higher then exotic to give some progression between exotic and legendary items.
I do have a problem with artificially gating content with the agony stat. This game was supposed to be about skill, and now that is completely out the window.
It’s not a content gate though. If I’m understanding it right you’ll be able to do experience 100% of the new dungeon without the gear. It’s just that the more you play it the harder it gets which requires defense against Agony.
In my opinion, I think legendary weapons are pitched at the right level, they are not supposed to be easy to get, otherwise everybody would have one. I dont think that you are supposed to go onto the TP and buy loads of weapons from it just to throw into the forge, i think the idea is to farm (karma for example)and when exotics drop, you then throw them in (no money being spent here) i have had a look at the Precursors needed to obtain the Twighlight and i have to say that, yes its going to take a while to get all the items together to be able to craft twiglight, however, in time and without spending a great deal of money, i should be able to get one. All the Precursors required can be obtained by a little hard work. Again it is only my opinion.
In your opinion. Anet disagrees.
Just how does ANet Disagree
Because they are making precursors easier to get, starting in the next build/patch.
Interesting you say that. 450 hours on my warrior. I’ve tried each of the other classes at least to level 16 and got bored and deleted them.

The simple fact people are upset tells you that this is a big deal and trying to belittle that tells me the kind of people some are. Frankly when the state of the game is at stake let people have their say right or wrong let them be heard. That is what this is about.
Yes but people haven’t even tried it. The simple fact is no one besides Anet knows how it’s going to work exactly, at this point. People only have very inaccurate assumption to base their complaints on right now.
If they started off as a tier above what was/is currently available in the game that would give people the impression that the game is all about vertical gear progression.
The way they are doing it everything stays the same, except for now the best armor to get has pink letters instead or orange letters.
>snip<
I’m sorry but I don’t understand this.
How would it imply vertical progression?
How does this new tier not imply vertical progression?
If everything stays the same except for letter color, how many times can this action be repeated before everything doesn’t stay the same?
Because it would say legendaries are outright better than exotics. Yes ascended armor and legendaries will be better than exotics. But that doesn’t change how it is now.
The only thing anet needs to clarify (imo) is if this is going to be the final tier of armor or not. Until they do people are over reacting for no reason.
Dude, if you want to make a serious pool, make a serious pool!
Just make a pool with yes or no! why complicate with your passionate interpretion of things like “I am going to cry and leave”?
Just make a mature pool like this:
Do you agree with the ascended gear being introduced?
1- Yes
2- No
3- No opinionAnd that is all. This is the only way you can make an unbiased and valuable pool.
Good luck with itWhy would you vote if you had no opinion? and that poll give you 50% less data
(edit) Also 325+ votes and counting.
No one should have anything but a very basic opinion on it for the simple fact that we don’t know how it’s going to work yet.
All people are going on is fear and assumptions.
I think you’ve got the right perspective. No where did Anet ever say exotics were intended to be the final tier of equipment. Especially considering all of this has likely been in the works for months, if not before the game was even released.
Shouldn’t legendaries denote the final tier?
Legendaries will be made to match ascended when they give us access to ascended weapons.
I know that. You seem to have missed my point.
Legendaries have been shown to indicate a ‘final tier’. The fact that they were equal to exotics gives the impression that exotics are ‘final tier’.
(I think) You are correct in saying they never said it. However if this was planned for months then legendaries should have simply started off equal to ascended.
Since they started off as exotic quality it strongly gave the impression to most players that exotic was indeed the final tier.
Well, that and the fact that GW1 max armor stayed final tier ever since it’s launch and well they did promise they were keeping everything we loved about GW1.
If they started off as a tier above what was/is currently available in the game that would give people the impression that the game is all about vertical gear progression.
The way they are doing it everything stays the same, except for now the best armor to get has pink letters instead or orange letters.
It’s also extremely likely that we will be able to craft ascended tier armors because if we can’t that would make crafting professions completely pointless outside of using them for legendaries.
People are just completely blowing things out of proportion and over reacting when we only see one small piece of the puzzle.
(edited by fellyn.5083)

Yes to a new gear rarity level.
Yes to a new gear rarity level with better stats.
Yes to a new and final level of the power plateau, until such time that the level cap is raised by an expansion.
Definitely No to a power creep gear treadmill.

This image shows us everything we need to know to be concerned.
So? All that shows is a ring that is slightly better than an exotic. Perhaps you should go back and reread what I said.
Here are the facts: that ring is statistically superior to ANY ring in the game at the current time with that specific stat combination. It doesn’t matter by how much, what matters is that any ring you might have obtained in the last three months will not be as powerful as the rings from this new update.
What it means is that, anyone who walked away from the game before this update, for any reason, will return after the update to find that their gear is no longer the best. What concerns us as players is not this individual item, but the precedent it sets, where each update’s items are slightly more powerful. In the industry, this is called “power creep.” If you don’t keep playing, you’ll be left behind.
Many of us have played many MMOs, and we feel that we were lead here under the pretense that we would be given a game where we would not have to put up with this again. And for three months, we thought we were right – until tonight – hence why so many people are up in arms.
And? You don’t know how it’s actually going to work. You’re basing all this on a small article that leaves a lot to the imagination and speculation and people are completely over reacting at this point.
Wait until further explanation or for the actual update to see how it works before getting all worked up.
Also it’s likely we’ll be able to craft ascended tier items. Otherwise that would make crafting professions completely pointless outside of making legendaries.
Something I am just going to leave here from Mike O’Brien himself.
Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.
I would love to see what Mr O’Brien has to say for himself now.
He would probably say to you to stop over reacting and wait to see how it actually works before getting your panties in a twist. Only probably a little more nicely worded.
No, I hate the new ascended items. I hate new Legendary with more stats too.
Which do not in fact exist at this point. You likely don’t even have a legendary anyways.
I don’t get how people can hate something when they don’t even know how it’s going to work.
I seriously wanna know what people are doing in pve right now? Your not running dungeons for gear? your not doing dungeons or orr for karma to get gear? C’mon you gotta be grinding something at this point.
nah, it is OK to farm 2 events over and over again on Orr just to get enough stuffs for Legendary skin, but it is not OK to grind the new dungeon to get a new tier of gear that provide you with minor stats boost…
get that?
actually No i dont get that. Your idea of fun is grinding orr? sorry but that is not fun to me. I have to get 42k or 43k " i forgot the exact number" karma for each piece just for looks. Look if you got the time to get a legendary then getting new gear should be a breeze. Fun to me is having a goal so if it requires gear that has new stats so I can do something fun with it then I’m all for it. Its better than just doing something for looks which has no goal behind it at all.
I think you missed his point entirely..
I don’t see how anyone can hate them when we don’t even know exactly how it’s going to work.

Bunch of drama queens in this thread. People complained because legendary weapons weren’t better than exotics. People complained that there wasn’t legendary armor and that full exotics were too easy to get.
Anet is giving everyone exactly what we’ve been asking for for the last 3 months. More end game. Something to do.
Besides that we don’t even know exactly how it’s going to work yet. I for one am excited for the up coming changes. More than I’ve been since the game was released. Bring it on.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
From the new blog post on ascended items…
We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently.
So is this coming Thursday or are we gonna have to wait longer for a precursor fix?
Well they said they would start making changes in the next upcoming build. But that scavenger hunt will probably be a ways off.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
If aoe skills are going to be capped at 5 targets hit then the portal needs to have a similar cap.
The portals added with the fact that standing in one spot as a tactic used to defeat most skills in the game is kind of mind boggling. Why have dodge/evade/block mechanics in the game when you can stand in one spot???
Compounded by the culling issues…makes pvp more frustrating than it needs to be.
Gonna go with no. It would break spvp for starters. And don’t expect a reply from Anet. Considering you asked directly for one.
i would like to hear an official statement concerning the pricing decision for tier 3 culturals. the human heavy armor is indeed a pretty set but as so many posters have already stated, the price does not reflect the quality of the item.
again, it would be nice to receive some type of official response explain why those choices were made.
The price reflects the rarity of the item. Transmute it onto some armor that has stats you like.
Mjolnir.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mjolnir
Outside of that Magmaton and the Icebreaker hammer from HoM look nice.
In GW1, different zones would drop different things. Take the Icy Dragon Sword as an example :
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Icy_Dragon_Sword
It only drops from a few mobs in a very specific area of the game. If you wanted an ICD, you either had to go there to farm it, or to buy it from someone who farmed the area.Since there were many skins that were restricted to certain mobs/areas, it in turn kept those areas valuable to the playerbase. If you knew for a fact that Dusk could drop from, say, Sparkfly Fen mobs, that would give you a reason to farm there instead of in Cursed Shore.
Basically, some of the zones should have something unique about them which serves as a reason to farm that zone.
Are you aware that that weapon did not exist when GW1 was first released?
I don’t know how much it does exactly but it is significant. Lay it down in front of a door during siege and see people clear out.
No… They WILL be adding Guild Wars. ANet just decided to sell us an unfinished product and will implement it later.
you do realize that this was never promised as being part of the game right?
stop being so mother kittening entitledI’m entitled to a game I payed full price for, that isn’t even finished.
What is not finished? Bugs don’t count. Even polished mmos like WoW have major bugs in them from time to time.
(edited by fellyn.5083)
Probably tomorrow. They need to do a server reset to get stuck events going if nothing else.
A lot of the issues with darkhaven are the bots that were never fully gotten rid of. Also a lot of times we have people who stand around in the citadel on our BL map or stand around chilling in other BL’s spawns like its a social club to chat at. We cant exactly force the non wvw fighters to leave for not helping so its hurting us there( maybe add a mass voting option to force afk players off a map). This may be crazy to most ppl but its almost as if DH has a bug as far as how many players can be on each map, ive had ppl say they were in queue before while I was on the map they tried to get to, I desperately searched around to find where these magic few were hiding, so either its still botters roaming or we as a server are bugged for how many per queue we can have on each map hurting our ability to match forces. Because ive had occasions where there would be a queue and the numbers on the field werent any greater than when there wasnt a queue. Yet we still get outnumbered there. Back to the actual battle at hand though, im normally a fight to the last man kinda guy in wvw even when losing in points but this is kinda just beyond rediculous, stuff like this is why people afk from wvw for a week. The messed up deal is we’ll face another force like this again if we win next week when the third from the tier up drops one. WvWvW really needs a mega change in match balancing.
Well I know for a fact that the queue system is bugged. On Friday night I got on about 4:50, hoped in the EB queue and went through it in a bout 10 minutes. While some one in guild chat said they’d been in it for over an hour.
People are still going to come in here and tell us that the system is fine as is after Anet has said they are going to change it and have said that the system as it currently stands is in fact not fine?
Add pzyonix to the list off people who completely miss the point of what we’re after. For starters dear pzyonix it’s not about the gold. It’s about the RNG and a boring, unrewarding, and unfun system. The 100% total and complete opposite of what their stated design philosophies are behind making this game.

Yeah because a car really is legendary… So far this quest for a legendary seems to be a never ending farm fest of Cursed Shore or luck fest, TRUELY, LEGENDARY.
So working every day for 10-20-30 years is also trully legendary ?
You know, have the opportunity to gain earn money (2 mil euros) is also about luck, You need the contracts, promotions, benefits and you also need to work 10000000x harder than in any game out there. And yet there are still thousand of people doing 100x less work then you and they have 100x more money than you. The world we are living is NOT FAIR and the LUCK is kitten big factor.
We are not talking about they way of obtaining things, but about the actual things. Usually the ’’way’’ of obtaining really valuable things are full of obstructions and its pain, but when you get there, you have kitten good feeling of satisfaction.
You are like every other second person, you see what you want to see, and just ignore the other things.I still think that only 1% of player base should have legendary at max. If 10% have them, they loose the value and prestigue. (btw I dont have legendary)
By the way, if you want to argue with me, do that, I dont really care… I just feel sorry for you, for those who feel that its unfair how things are hard, about luck, etc.
I believe Areanet knows what to do and I hope they do the right thing for the game, for us and company. Whatever that might be.
I still don’t get the mentality that they need to be exclusive to a very small percentage of the player base. We all paid money for the game and we’re all entitled to experience everything it has to offer. If anet wants it’s game to die it will make content that only a very small amount of people get to see. If they want their game to grow they will make challenging yet fun content that a lot of people can see.
Please note I’m not saying Anet should make content geared towards the lowest skilled players. It still needs to be fun and challenging, but it can’t be exclusive to ~5% of the game population.
Besides that stop worrying about what other people have and are doing with their time in the game and start playing the game for yourself. For me, I want Twilight because I think it looks amazing. I would feel the same if it was given as reward for reaching level 2.
i bought a rifle and a shotgun, because i paid money for it, im also entitled to shoot whatever the hell i want to shoot with it, after all thats the logic of the argument it seems….
you pay money for ACCESS to their game and the right to play it for as many hours you see fit, however , it does NOT entitle you to 100 percent of the content it has, nor does it give you any say on what is or not accesible to everyone in the game
its a stupid argument, i too would like precursors to be more accesible but thats a stupid argument to make in favor of it
I said we’re entitled to have access to it. I didn’t say we’re entitled to get it without putting in any effort.
Seems Anet agrees with me though as they think more people should be getting their hands on precursors and that it’s better for the overall health of the game.
Maybe not such a stupid argument after all? Besides my comment was in reply to the guy saying only 1% of the game population deserve to have a legendary. When as often as not the only difference between some one who has one and some one who doesn’t is pure blind dumb luck.
I don’t think I need to repeat why that’s bad game design at this point.
