Not sure why you’re talking about hardcore SAB players with infusions because I never said anything about hardcore.
It’s obvious SAB is more popular than raids (by player count) because
1. raids require HoT
2. raids require ‘decent’ gear
3. raids require mastery
4. raids require high time investment compared to SAB
In terms of sheer numbers, SAB will win compared to raids to a high degree of extreme obviousness.
It is indeed obvious if you even stop to consider for one moment what restrictions are in place for players to access SAB compared to raids (hint: none).
I also said nothing about wintersday either so stop making irrelevant stuff up to detract from the point that SAB is played by way more players than raids.
(edited by fishball.7204)
SAB is an event that probably has a larger following than raids mainly since raids are still new.
Probably not. SAB has a very passionate and dedicated following; that doesn’t mean that it’s a lot more people.
I love raids way more than SAB but come on there’s no way raids have a larger following than SAB in GW2. You don’t even need to look at numbers for this, it’s just obvious.
Multiple big PvX guilds have over half their rosters in SAB. Big guilds like EVOS/SSC/TTS cancel their wurm/teqs etc because their guild members are in SAB. This never happens with a new raid wing.
Pretty obvious SAB has a larger playerbase than a random activity like Basket Brawl, suggesting otherwise is lolworthy.
I get that you love SAB, but it’s not a primary, nor even a secondary part of the game. It’s a festivallish minigame with no bearing to the game itself. As it stands, anet has shown that they struggle with the resources to keep up with the primary game and secondary components of the game. So I’m glad they won’t prioritize a tertiary part of the game for the sake of ‘fun’ if it would cost on the quality of the prior. Maybe the next expansion will generate a lot of revenue so they can afford to mess around with tertiary components of the game.
by primary I mean story: Orr, LS1, LS2, HoT, LS3
and by secondary I mean fractals and raids. (And maybe the current events)
Tertiary would be the minigames in LA, as well as SAB, halloween and wintersday.
Funny you say this because ANet just updated basket brawl despite a far less percentage of playerbase playing that compared to SAB.
No idea what ANet’s priorities are but they’re all over the place
Not much point in allowing ever-increasing top prices, as long as the game’s inflation is in check. The cap should be even lower.
Artificially limiting prices never work, in game or real life. People just do trades outside of the market (black market) which already happens for high value items like Chak Egg Sac.
People regularly trade them for 12-14k gold in items outside of the game.
Because people are willing to buy it for over 10k and people are willing to sell it for over 10k.
d/f gives you 2 on demand CC’s (comet + the air 5) as well as invuln/condi removal/short reflect on earth.
There’s also a lot of projectile destruction which is pretty good.
If you don’t like /f you can try warhorn too that’s sorta ok even though it’s not the best but dagger offhand is seriously lacking
Not really sure what role this build is meant to fit. Like if you wanna be full support/pug carry then you could just take minstrels with herald runes for strong prot uptime + decent sustain without relying on pugs to heal you.
In organized groups, our chrono runs like 1005 toughness if he wants to tank and that’s all he needs (although he might run more for Xera/VG/Deimos just to make his life easier).
I just don’t really see a reason to make a third set where you’re trying to max your damage at the same time when you’re trying to pug where the damage isn’t gonna be max anyway and you’re just trying to clear it. 1400+ also might not be enough because pug druids run some clerics to mix and I’ve seen some run around 1.5k toughness. Just seems like a lot of effort to make a 3rd chrono set with very little benefit.

I do Ogre lane in TD every day with your guild pretty much and I’ve never seen anyone call out people specifically for low DPS.
I run the meter and I see people do low DPS, run bad builds etc but I never say anything and I know people in the squad who also run meters but say nothing either.
I have to wonder how prevalent it really is and whether or not you’re simply exaggerating your claims of DPS meters creating toxicity.
Quite often I’ve seen (pre DPS meters) people talking about trash DPS because for example, ogre took 3 burns in a pug. That’s pretty common but I’ve never seen a specific “necro you did 1k damage on gerent wat are u doing”, like ever.
It’s always been the case in open world, 20% of the people do like 60% of the dps. Getting confrontational over that does nothing.
(edited by fishball.7204)
2 revs is a bad pick anyway doesn’t matter what you’re fighting
It’s by design so you can’t duo and get your friend to ‘disconnect’ every time you look like you might lose.
ANet has already said overlays are fine and DPS meters that don’t do specific things such as gear checking are also fine.
Just because ANet said something in 2012 doesn’t mean it applies in 2017.
MVP awards suck. Most players don’t even know when they’re being carried because their skill level is so low. I saw people raging at Toker last season for pushing far and winning 1v3s because “stop pushing far” etc mentality.
Next you’re gonna complain world boss timer overlays cause toxicity lmao
But it was a close and even game kappa
From BGDM’s website:
- [1.7.0.1] 2017-02-08 23:30
FIRST ANET COMPLIANT RELEASE: removed gear-check moduleThe only versions of the app I can find to download are after this.
Where can I find a version that allows me to gear check someone who didn’t already download the app themselves?
You already have it. You just add in a an INI key that’s posted on EG’s forums and you’re good to go.
So the INI that I downloaded can’t inspect other people’s gear. I have to do something non-standard to view other people’s gear?
Then in answer to the original question:
There is no compliant version of the DPS meter that allows you to inspect people’s gear without them also downloading the same meter. People looking at your gear are not using the complaint version of the app.
The ini file is literally just a config/text file which tells the meter to turn on gear check or not. Since the code isn’t open source, there’s no telling if the gear check module is disabled by default or simply just hidden away from showing. So the worst case scenario is, you download the “legit copy”, thinking it’s ok but it has the gear check running in the background anyway without letting you know.
However I don’t use BGDM so I can’t confirm that this is the case, this is just what I am seeing on reddit/here. There might in fact be actually 2 versions of BGDM (not just ini tweaks) but idk.
What Arc does is have 2 versions, one that is totally compliant and one that isn’t (use at your own risk) type of thing. So I use the compliant one.
Matchmaking: not much to be said here, we all know it’s not good especially if you’re in plat/high gold and get to face top 10 duos with nobody good on your team. Or alternatively, you’re forced to carry potatoes because nobody in your MMR range plays the game at that exact time and you get punished for losing.
It should be obvious that MMR isn’t linear but ANet tries to average the teams MMR. What I mean by this is, a 1800 MMR player is a LOT better than a 1500 MMR player whereas a 1300 MMR player is only slightly better than a 1000 MMR player comparatively. This just leads to trash matchmaking when you have silver players in the same game as top 10 duos despite the MMR being sorta numerically equal.
Balance: Not much choice in what to play, most players run the same builds because they are effective. Seen some guys try different stuff in S5 but they always got shut down by players running meta. Very few viable niche builds so it makes the game kinda boring.
Rewards: Well rewards aren’t my sole motivation in playing but this season they nerfed everything so hard the rewards are basically 0 to me as a PvE player.
The titles are also the same as last season and basically they’re going to be worth less every season as more people get them so I don’t care anymore and not gonna bother.
There isn’t even a Call of the Mists buff in Season 6. Feelsbad.
Repetitiveness: There’s like the same old maps over and over again with very little variety. They even made Khylo boring af so it’s like meh. This is further multiplied by the ‘stale’ meta where it’s always the same builds, same maps etc.
Solo Q/Duo Q: The mixed queues kinda annoys me since I don’t have the ability to have a reliable duo partner. Last season I made a few friends and duo’d some games but had to solo at the end since they started to have school/college. It’s just so much of an advantage to duo especially with the wonky matchmaking and it feels unfair to me so I don’t bother.
Ratings: It sucks losing -20 and gaining only 13 for beating top tier players because they get padded with silver players who drag the average down despite it being a super hard game. I guess it also sucks for them since they have to win 10 games to cover 1 loss. Basically sucks for all involved.
Only way ANet will listen: Not playing is pretty much the only way of complaining I have left about PvP. We’ve all posted what we think is bad and so on within these forums there’s not much else to do but not playing puts some real numbers in context of how bad PvP is doing due to these poor choices. If you have like a 50% player # drop from S5 then they’re kinda forced to do something about it whereas complaining on the forums does nothing.
(edited by fishball.7204)
-700 rating decay…. That might be it.
Pretty sure you can use Decay to boost your rating but it’s also a gamble.
I thought they fixed that to not give any bonus rating boost because Evan said it made no sense to do so during a season.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Why-is-my-MMR-change-so-high/6468259
Regardless, I can see why you might think that way but nah I am not doing this to ‘cheat’ the system lmao, I just don’t care to play after I realized the first 10 games it was gonna be another same season of pointlessness.
I had like 500+ games last season, top 250, didn’t abuse decay or anything of the sort and I’m not even a “real PvPer”.
What are you even talking about dude
how is that in T3 gold you are top 100
RIP
Screenshots please. Or I won’t believe you.
We should be able to kill cats for leather tbh :^)
Just put the rating at the end like other competitive games, it’s already possible by adding everyone in the game so why not just do it for research purposes?
In the case of toxicity, there’s already toxic people that call you out for being trash which might actually be a fair point, if they weren’t -300 rating away from you. It is not their fault that the matchmaker put them there but you wouldn’t know because there’s nothing telling you.
tl;dr Toxic will be toxic regardless, might as well give people more information to work on improving matchmaking
+1 Feanor. There’s just very little payoff playing harder classes like Ele or even the non hammer guardian build. Even power builds in general now if you think about how there’s effort involved in maintaining scholar buff + seaweed buff don’t really feel worth it.
I can struggle and output my very best DPS on power engy OR I can just faceroll on a condi ranger and do more damage without trying as hard, that’s pretty poor balancing.
I mostly PvE (raid) and I just did 10 games and left it to decay after I realize nothing changed and I don’t care about the reward that much.
I can chop tree and make 5-10x more gold / day easily than do PvP so the rewards do not entice me at all.
I still do unranked cuz I can get stronghold and spirit watch achievements while I’m doing it but ranked is dead to me right now.
I also got top 250 last season so no real reason to try again especially when most good players aren’t even playing.
Most efficient way is to farm gold and buy it right now. None of the other farms are efficient.
Gear checks/build reading aren’t allowed in DPS meters you should report them for it.
Having said that, they can probably half guess what you’re running based on playing with you for 5 minutes. Most of us veterans can tell right off the bat what you’re running is “not meta” just by looking at any lack of or too many signets + weapon set.
Also, why are tier 2 Gold players on same team as top 20 players?
Cuz gold 2 is top 250 :^)
Yes, because Anet didn’t promise to obliterate class stacking right off the bat with no regards to the consequences, people took it as though it would never happen. Thus is the wonderful logic of this community.
I guess the community just looks at the glacial pace in which ANet does anything and just assumed the worst which is fair tbh. It took them the entire S5 to ban cheaters on the ladder and even then some still got off and S6 didn’t even offer anything new compared to S5 except reward nerfs.
Like if they brought out build templates, initial class stacking prevention etc THEN did the poll I’m pretty sure the results would be different.
meanwhile in NA if you hit tier 2 gold you get put in top 200 leaderboard LOL good job ANET. duoQ moarrrrr, crappy/same reward moarrrr
Yeah last season was cutthroat even on NA, this season is just a joke lmao nobody cares gg.
Meters that check DPS of players that aren’t in squad/party are against TOS. Joining a squad or party implies giving consent:
The current system allows for people to teach or run whatever raids they need on the weekends as the ‘hardcore’ rush the raids on Monday/Tuesday. There’s far more people on the weekend so even though it’s end of the week, it’s still possible to get clears.
If you move it to weekend resets then people rush to get their clears in (Sat/Sun) and it becomes substantially harder to form a 10 man group mid week since it’s both weekdays AND people already cleared.
I mean whenever the reset is doesn’t bother me at all, it’s just I see very little benefit moving the time and actually some downsides.
Also “Friday night” NA is basically WvW reset which again brings up the issue of clashing with WvW reset. I know not many people play both but there’s still some and it’d kinda suck to have to pick between reset raids in WvW or PvE.
Sad to hear this is the case in EU, sounds like it’s worse than NA right now
Both are fine now for PvE, there was a time when metabattle updated slow but they’re pretty good now.
I’d recommend qT’s site if you wanna watch videos with rotation in addition to the written guides.
Well last season i had the following. (I main ele)
I got placed in low silver after 6:4 in placement. Fighting up was a hard grind only maintaining about 55 to 60% on ele. I made it only to mid silver (got in hig but got a loosing streak …
Then i met someone from high gold to platin and he agreed to duo. We got playing in high gold. I didn´t loose a single match there ….
What does that tell ……
Ele is kinda bad in low tiers because you can’t outheal stupidity of your team mates but it’s very strong higher up because sustain is strong especially with a team that actually has the dodge key binded.
I had the same experience, couldn’t carry on an ele at all had to swap to stuff that could kill to climb ranks until I was high enough where Ele made an impact in team fights.
I mean the d/f meta ele btw, I guess you could do some marauder/zerk staff ele or fresh air and kill silver/bronze players but idk
They use 5-4-3 instead of the old “warscore” (PPT total) now so winners and losers don’t gain that much or lose that much glicko such as NA T1 has been lopsided but there is slowwwwww glicko change
Not even surprised they haven’t fixed this. Same as last season, duo q top players will be put into a game full of 1600s because no1 else is playing.
The guilds that move to FC probably did it for fights. Nobody wants to deal with T1 right now lmao. They’re probably perfectly happy to let JQ win the ppt war
I went 6-4 in my placements where 2 of the 4 losses were 4v5 games. I ended up at 1654 rating. Just a couple games later I’m sitting at 1758. Placements only count kitten much. Just keep playing and you’ll get to where you’re supposed to be.
I went 6-4 with 1 game as a rager/afk/leaver and was put Gold 1….
Reading your post and placement and comparing to my results, I’m not going to bother with this season…. This season is just luck again.
Your placements depends slightly on where you are last season. Loop was plat+ and you were silver-gold so obviously you placed around where you’re supposed to be with a 6-4 score. Also yes there’s some luck involved in placements but placements are like… worthless in the overall scheme of things since you could place really high but be bad and just keep losing or place really low and climb really easily since you’re good (eg. helseth).
You don’t lose any rating in placements or real games if you have a DC > 2 min though.
But also, they’re scaling the leaderboards this season so the longer the season is, the more games needed to place on there. Pretty sure they said something like 100 games which totally makes your complaints a non issue as they’d both have to play that many games anyway.
Stop making excuses for them. True Disconnects shouldn’t count toward your rating. There is no reason for them too. 100 games is nothing. Two players playing 100 games could have widely different ratings based soley on disconnects losing ratings say at 12-15 a pop. If one player had even 5 more disconnects that like 75 rating difference that could cost you 50 spots in the rankings. It could be the difference between high gold and low platinum it may not matter to you but it matters to some people. Stop rationalizing everything away. Its a trait of a doormat that settles for anything quite frankly. They definitely changed something even someone diconnecting for half the match now costs you rating. Basically they need to reduce the luck factor wherever possible. Well this is luck some people benefitting from others mistortunes basically. It should even out but not over 100 games necessarily. It would be one thing if the threshold was 200-300 games but at 100 games some luck can easily come into play based on this stupid disconnect change.
Making up stuff doesn’t make it true. Ratings don’t go down if you have a DC that isn’t in your duo q.
Let me repeat, DISCONNECTS (>2 min) DON’T COUNT TOWARDS LOSSES IN RATING.
Prove me wrong or you’re just full of it and ranting because you’re salty
You don’t lose any rating in placements or real games if you have a DC > 2 min though.
But also, they’re scaling the leaderboards this season so the longer the season is, the more games needed to place on there. Pretty sure they said something like 100 games which totally makes your complaints a non issue as they’d both have to play that many games anyway.

I don’t think losing the placement with the DC counts towards your initial placement. So in a sense that’s sorta ok I guess. In the long run it’s just 10 games and you’re gonna need to play more anyway so placements aren’t that important.
How can you measure someone else’s DPS without gathering data from somewhere other than your own game client?
Clever DPS “meters” can estimate DPS for other members of the party by making reasonable assumptions, but it remains a “reasonable guess”.
Some DPS meters allow for others to aggregate data from participating players’ clients. That wouldn’t apply to the OP’s concern, which is someone measuring their DPS directly without their permission.
I thought it was in the thread but apparently not. Here’s the thing I found on arcdps’ website
http://www.deltaconnected.com/arcdps/squadparty.png
Chriscleary said it’s ok to have combat data collected if in same party/squad.
Besides which, ANet hasn’t allowed people to use a DPS meter to measure someone else’s DPS; they allowed people to use a personal DPS meter.
You’re allowed to ‘measure’ other people’s DPS if they’re in your party/squad but you can’t gear check/trait check etc.
It’s cuz there’s a lot less players playing in S6 which means you’ll get wide berth of MMR from your team mates. Like Sinderer on stream was playing with some realllly bad players like bottom of gold type of players and he’s top 5 or w/e.
The whole DPS meters cause toxicity thing is a fallacy. Meters are a tool and blaming the tool is not the answer. Well before DPS meters were a thing people still got insulted and/or kicked from groups for a perceived lack of skill, poor performance, unoptimized builds and a number of other reasons. Toxic players exist with or without DPS meters.
So you disagree that DPS meters could cause a player that others deem not “good” enough to be treated poorly/excluded etc?
While it’s true the mentality and attitude associated with toxic behavior is not created by DPS meters, the meter can be used as a tool to promote it.
Yes a DPS meter also has positive uses, I simply disagree that DPS meters are 100% innocent and do not cause or help create a toxic environment.
I mean they can do the same with AP or kill proof pings or etc to “prove” people aren’t good enough and kick them. At least with a DPS meter there is actual useful information instead of some poor random guy getting kicked cuz the commander didn’t like the way his armor looked or something.
Pretty sure most people only run DPS meters in raids which are the end game content that provides most challenge when it comes to PvE. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with demanding all 10 players be somewhat on point when it comes to DPS/Mechanics since you’d just waste 9 other peoples time by sucking.
In the end if you’re really being kicked for being low DPS in raids either you need to shape up and realize you’re not that great OR the commander is an idiot who kicked you for low DPS on Magi druid in which case, you got lucky because the group is probably trash.
They probably should’ve either added marks or reduce token gain, not both. Both just makes it terrible and basically not worth doing at all. Basically once you finish the track once to get the Llama box or w/e you want say league tickets there’s little incentive to continue since the reward is so poor.
