The real WvW tourney strategy

WvW is dead unless you’re on a server that has the population to compete. My server as attempted to be better for a solid year and it’s just not possible without people transferring over periodically.

It’s pretty terrible that the mechanics of the game are forcing communities to split.

WvW is broken. That’s it.

It started with the remove of the queue by EotM as the only balancing factor that ever existed, got heated by season 2 rewards and is now gone.
If 4 ranks difference is a blow out there is nothing left to play.

I agree, I’m done getting upset about this game over and over and over again. It’s not fun, it’s punishing and I’m sick of it.

WvW tournament a failure

You can’t match up a rank 9 server and a rank 15 server and expect the match up to be fun.

If you look at the discrepancies between the ranked servers playing this week it should easily point how how terrible this tournament system is. The tournament should be fun and competitive, but this week is completely the opposite due to the idiotic match up system.

HoD here. Wtf. My server hasn’t came in first since Tourny S2(silver). Fast forward; this week we are matched up against Dragonbrand and IoJ. I don’t claim to know all the aspects of matching, but this is kitty kat! Dragonbrand (x-gold 1 of five full servers) against us, Henger of Denravi (a PvE shell of a silver warmachine that hasn’t placed first in 5 months). One of their guilds is close to our entire server population that play in WvW consistently. I know… lets lower the achievement requirements per week this tournament to 1hr’s worth of playtime, that way more people will leave sooner.
If your goal was to loose long term players holding out for the tournament in servers barley keeping their numbers in WvW, congrats. So Disappointed.

100% agree. You keep pushing this kittenty system into our faces. It dose not work, it’s not fun being outnumber all week long. And it’s not fun playing a server 6 ranks higher.

This weeks match ups are a joke...

in WvW

Posted by: grifflyman.8102

grifflyman.8102

Most of the match ups so completely one sided, you’ve got disparities between the top ranked and bottom ranked servers.

A rank 14 server is playing a rank 8 server, a 15 is playing a rank 9.

WvW does not work if one side is completed taken out of the equation. The maps are designed around each side having a presence; otherwise it turns into whoever has the most numbers to take advantage of the weakest server.

The system has utterly destroyed the season.

Sharpening Stone Station not worth it

I would like to suggest that the duration on the Sharpening Stone Station be increased from 5 minutes to an hour duration.

The amount of materials to craft the item, and the fact that all the materials used must be made by one character and not a guild or a group of players makes the item very selfless, however the cost of materials is just too great for it to only last on the ground for 5 minutes.

I’ve yet to see anyone use the item because of this.

Spirit Form is pretty bad after they nerfed the movement speed of dash. You took a fun ability and made it terrible. What’s worse is we can’t even attack while moving, making you a sitting duck in WvW.

This game is supposed to be dynamic with movement, but we can’t even auto attack in spirit form without being rooted to the ground.

CDI- Guilds- Logistics and QOL

in CDI

Posted by: grifflyman.8102

grifflyman.8102

Chris, I am not 100% sure if this can be filed under QoL, I believe this is an enhancement to the current guild logo and armour functionality. If this proposal is not relevant here, I would be happy to re-post in a subsequent CDI.

Proposal Overview:
A guild outfit that can be created/changed by a ranked guild member, and then toggled on/off by all members representing the guild.

Goal of Proposal:
The game currently includes guild chest amour, back items and weapons. However guild members rarely use these during guild events, missions or WvW raids. The look of your character is a very personal thing and the cost of acquiring and regularly changing between your personal look and a guild uniform is too high in terms of gold, transmutation charges and time. This system will enable guild members to easy toggle between their personal look and a guild outfit at no personal cost.

Proposal Functionality:
A guild upgrade option to unlock the ability to create a complete guild outfit, the outfit can then be created by a guild member with sufficient rank by visiting the guild armour NPC. Guild members can then select this outfit via the outfits tabs in their hero panel.

Associated Risks:
I am unsure which skins and colours should be made available via the guild outfit creator, should this be based on the skins available to the individual creating the outfit, or from a set of standard skins and colours? Could additional skins or colours be ‘unlocked for guild’ rather than unlocked for your personal character?

Is the outfit tab the right place to be able to select the guild outfit? Would it be better to have the toggle option via the guild window instead?

Would a separate outfit have to be created for light/medium/heavy professions?

Yes! Please this! City of Heroes (RIP) did this very well! They had a team outfit you could toggle on at any time to wear your team colors and armor. I think Guild Wars could go a long way with this feature and guilds could even unlock certain items through guild missions!

Is this an early April fools joke?

Dunno why it’s surprising they spent a whole month talking about it. I thought at first this was going to be another one of those “there’s not enough content” threads but I do actually agree with you on the alts thing, however, I’m surprised that more people weren’t talking about it last feature patch when they did what they did to traits. All you guys are late to the game really when it comes to alts. The rest of us were telling you Alts were being punished last time where is everyone? Oh right they were polishing their Oath videos.

I’m sick of these changes to leveling up. I’ve never seen an MMO spend more time on “new players” then GW2. I understand you have to tailor to new players, and they bring new revenue into the game, but you’ve been alienating your player base over the last year.

Players on these forums have repeatedly asked for content, such as a way to craft precursors, or new ways to balance WvW. Instead, we we’ve had two MAJOR changes to the dynamics of leveling up a character.

First, traits were removed, forcing players into content they might not have any interest in completing just to unlock the versatility of their chosen class. I was not fortunate enough to make more characters at launch, but now that I want to I feel like I’ve been punished because I have to either spend gold (which I don’t have enough of because I’m trying buy a precursor that seems to go up in price every week) or be forced to play content that I’ve already played through, or have no interest in playing.

Now I’m forced to sit through a tediously, boring process just to unlock skills and map icons? No thank you sir.

If you have a level 80 let us level however we want, give us all our traits and just work on making new content for low levels and high levels alike.

Stop wasting time trying to create a new formula. Guild Wars 2 got it right the first time, you have great reviews, and people praised it at release, no on said it was overly complicated, people were not complaining about being “overwhelmed.”

Instead you’ve alienated a player base that already felt alienated. This is how MMO’s die. And I don’t want Guild War 2 to die, I want to be excited about the future of this game, not worried about where it’s going.

I have one level 80, I’ve never completed the map, and I mostly WvW. I have had many people tell me I should level more characters, but unfortunately I was late to the party in terms of the traits.

I can’t get passed the idea of leveling to 80 with out access to traits. Like I said before, I mostly WvW, so leveling up in EotM is what all my frirnds do, but I constantly hear them complain about not having all thier traits unlocked, and knowing how I’ve yet to even do map completion on my main I feel like I’ll never get around to unlocking traits on an alternative account.

Spending gold to unlock them is really not a great alternative, I feel like I’m being forced to complete content I have no interest in just so I can unlock the full abilities of my character.

Colored commander tag - please don't do it...

4 months ago I made a prediction.

Prediction:
*Chorus of yeses on the forum
*ANet puts in their updates “Good news! Commander tags now account bound!”
*People post complaints about wasting hundred of gold buying multiple commander tags.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Account-Bound-Commander-Tags/first#post3876583
The price hike is an unfortunate consequence of becoming account bound.

People are not complaining about the price for an account bound tag. It’s the price of the additional colors that’s got people angry.

I would spend 500 gold on a tag, but the colors should be included since they are an organization feature.

They’re trying to keep the tag relevant as a gold sink but the way they’re implementing it really sucks.

I’m concerned that this tactic will become more widespread. Community makes a request for some feature which should have been there all along, feature is added but A-net takes the opportunity to jack prices up to “modern day levels”.

Didn’t ANet admit long ago that charging gold for commander tags was a mistake in the first place? The community pointed out that a commander tag should be earned in some way that shows the commander has at least some familiarity with WvW, rather than just deep pockets. I seem to remember an ANet dev coming out and agreeing.

And yet, here they are, for sale again, with bright, shiny new colors.

Or is this memory just a fantasy of mine?

I think your right actually, which is pretty funny. They could have easily charged badges of honor, thus increasing the amount of players in WvW.

Thank you,

Wow…

For 300g I think ill just stay blue and have people deal with it when I’m commanding.

Here I thought this feature was to make things easier on commanders and organizing players.. not burden them with a gold sink to even make use of the feature.

Totally defeats the purpose if 3 commanders that own the same color are commanding at the same time and are locked into the same color. Does nobody at Anet actually play the game or think things through?

Really what is the point of the feature if commanders cant switch colors easily to fit the current situation?

I know they play the game. I see Anet tags up on SBI all the time in WvW. I think the problem comes from greedy management telling them to make it 300 gold so players will be forced to trade in gems.

It’s okay for certain things, but not for items designed to help organized a system that really needs better tools.

Why doesn't Anet tell us their plans

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I believe someone in the higher tiers of management put in a company policy to not discuss future plans.

This might have a lot to due with the Chinese release of GW2, since content in China is usually very different and the marketing scheme is very different than the GW2 we play.

Anet’s silence began a month before the Chinese release of GW2, before that they were posting plans, replying to forums topics, letting the community know they were listening, but ever since the China release we’ve been treated with silence and answers like, “It’s currently difficulty to implement this, we don’t have plans at the moment but maybe someday.”

Anet, I’m really dissapointed about the fact that buying multiple Commander Tags will cost at a minimum 600g. I think the proposed system is too restrictive because of the amount of gold required and therefore won’t provide a way for Commanders to sufficiently organise themselves. For example, if there are two Commanders who have paid 300g each for the same coloured tag, they are no better off than the current system. What if the community decides that the blue tag will be used for the main group and the red tag should be used for havocing, but both Commanders on the map only have a blue tag?

You said in your presentation that you are waiting to see how the community organises themselves around usage of the different colours, but in the above scenario the community will still not be able to do that. I really feel that being able to switch colours on the fly is integral to the feature, so much so that I even feel that a cost higher than 300g could be justified if it included the ability to switch colours as standard and provide more squad management tools, but 600-1,200g is too far removed from acceptable pricing for such a limited feature.

It’s great to finally have tags as account bound and we are really grateful for that, but having to wait so long for an improvement to Commander Tags that is priced so unfairly and doesn’t sufficiently meet our requirements feels very bitersweet. I won’t be buying a tag because I just don’t think it is good value for money.

Very well said!

It’s really sad that they are doing this with no additional functions to the tag. I could probably justify the additional cost if it was more than a colored Dorito.

What’s worse is they are taking a suggestion and a request from the community, turning it around and charging for it.

There’s no item in the game you can currently purchase that’s 300 gold that’s not on the Trade Post. No armor, no super cool looking weapon, no really cool guild banner. Just some kitten collored tag.

It’s just the old 100g.

Stop PvEing and play WvW for an entire week, at the end if the week tell me how much gold you make compared to your regular play style.

There are many people who command and WvW exclusively who don’t have 300 gold. I’ve never had more than 360 gold myself and all I do is WvW, I’ve not even done any of the new living story content.

Charging players for a tool designed to make organization easier is a joke too.

I guess you don’t sell your crafting mats?

You mean the crappy tier materials you find in the Boderlands? And let me stop commanding/responding to an attack to mine every node on the way.

Commanders don’t have the luxury of stopping 20 people to mine every resource node on the map when moving to A to B.

A lot of you are missing the point. The WvW community asked for colored tags 8 months ago so players could be organized better.

WvW suffers from massive zerging right now, it’s a constant problem in the higher tiers.

Colored tags will promote less zergy tactics, help counter zergs and make the game more organized in the end.

So what happens if two or three commanders don’t have a colored tag? I guess someone has to be forced to “tag down” and we revert to zerging again.

Zergs provide little tactics. They make every encounter in the game a joke and it’s pretty boring.

Why charge players for a utility item that will help fix one of the largest issues in WvW and PvE right now?

Why charge a select few who try to organize groups? Not everyone commands, it’s not always easy and it takes dedication and time to get people to listen.

Colored tags would make life easier for commanders, It’s a quality of life change the game desperately needed but charging players for it is an absolute joke.

If you still don’t get it try WvWing for a week straight on a Bordetland map, don’t do anything ells for that entire week and tell me how fun the zergfest is. 20+ zerg groups flipping camps? That could have been avoided with a dedicated havoc tag.

Two schools of thought here:

PVE players, karma trainers and market traders who think nothing of 300g

WvW players (who actually need the function more than pve’rs) to whom 300g is more than they have ever had in their bank due to wvw rewards being so awful.

For pure wvw players, this just feels like a kick when their down.

I would argue that for your average player, they are totally unaffected by the change and dont care. But for people who derive enjoyment from the game by organizing Wurm or Tequatl or WvW raids, they are rightly (and i’d expect them to be) up in arms about this change. For the people that understand the level of effort required for this level of organisation, the people that understand how woefully under-developed the commander system is, they should be sharpening their pitchforks and lighting their torches.

You are also punishing players who take the time to organize these events. The commanders who take the time to get people on team speak, who remind players to stay on their tag and tag up everyday for events that help create a community.

These players should not be charged for a better way to organize groups, but instead they are getting charged for a feature they’ve been requesting for nearly a year.

I’m not too stubborn, I can’t afford to spend 300 gold on the item. I don’t PvE and I don’t grind dungeons for gold. All I do is WvW and the most gold I’ve ever had was 356. I know I’m a minority but many of the commanders I’ve spoken to are in the same boat.

A status symbol. Most WvW commanders I’ve talked to won’t bother to purchase a new color based on the fact they are being charged for a feature designed to help organize players in large groups, something this game has desperately needed since release.

The new colors will become a status symbol, and I fear players might even be mocked for purchasing them, much like the guy in town who revs his engine at the stop light in his super expensive car, or the guy who parks in the handicapped space in his brand new red Ferrari.

We get it. People dislike when stuff doesn’t happen exactly like they want it to happen. But the fact remains that ArenaNet sits on the numbers, they have a better understanding of the economy of the game and stuffs like that than anyone of us here on the forums.

Maybe they simply figured out that making the tags account-bound would remove such a high amount of gold removal even with the increased price that they had to add alternatives?

And please, don’t talk for the community as a whole, since you quite clearly don’t speak for everyone.

No, you’re wrong. Forums are the only place the community has to talk to the developers. The enormous amount of outcry over this topic warrants people creating new threads left and right. The community has spoken, if it didn’t bother you then go on your way, but please don’t complain about people using a forum for what it was designed for: communication.

Don’t mean to barge in but,

As a top PvP player on the top NA team, I want to give my opinion on what ANET should have done.

I personally dislike the fact that PvP players too can get PvE armor from PvP. But they did it because there weren’t any exclusive armors for PvP anyway, which was/is the true problem. They should’ve made it so you have to PvE for certain skins, WvW for certain skins, and PvP for certain skins, and make certain skins more appealing depending on difficulty. I do think winning big tournaments should have the utmost best design considering its good for a competitive scene. But they should have nice designs for the hardest content in PvE as well and WvW. I hate that everyone looks the same for doing different content.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree 10000% as someone who spends a majority of his time WvWing I’m still baffled WvW dose not have its own armor sets. I’m happy PvP gets one but I’m also sad at how much attention PvP has received compared to WvW.
