They can’t pick off people as you are invulnerable inside your spawn… All they can do is kill a few NPCs and get killed by either invulnerable players or Legendary Defenders.
Good point, still kind of annoying though.

2v1 doesn’t even the odds (which I think is what the devs wanted to happen). It shifts to odds in the opposite direction. It would only even the odds if population caps were altered somehow to compensate.
Exactly, HoD will never attack the harder target, they (smartly) target tier 1 objectives. If it’s anything more than T1 they will avoid it like the plague.
Well this is old news. Their are a few skilled wvw guilds in every tier. The large militia zergs that are around during the low periods that determine alot of the lower tier match-ups.
Higher WvW population = more WvW guilds = more skilled guilds.
Probably pretty long. You have to buy a chinese based copy in order to be on the chinese version of the game.
As such the chances of having a lot of people from other time zones will be very little.
AKA they will really have fun in WvW!

I wouldn’t say that the Devs don’t care, they just can’t really do anything right now until the season is over. They tried a different type of scoring and it didn’t work like they intended. I’m fairly certain they will try, yet another, scoring system for season 3.
Just give us a new scoring system based on population and give us a score DECAY. The longer you hold something the less points you get.
I think ANET had a strong interest in the PvE CDI. There were a lot of good responses and dialogue there.
The WvW one seemed forced. I think the ANET WvW lead was forced to do it and so he spent the minimal time possible on it.
More like: Anet made more effort to pretend they were listening in the PvE CDIs, whereas they didn’t even bother to do that for the WvW one.
They actually did implement some of the PvE stuff especially around horizontal progression. You are correct about WvW though.
I would love, LOVE to see the tract system in WvW. It would be amazing! I hardly do anything but WvW and I have nothing to show for it other than frustration and a few great battle stories at launch.
I wonder how long it will take Chinese players to realize WvW is coverage based.
Yeah. Like HOD and Yaks teamed against second server last week and now have teamed against third server SBI?
Hopefully Yaks end up where EBay did last year.
I don’t think HoD and YAK are teaming up on SBI, I just think HoD refuses to attacking anything that’s upgraded, thus ignoring YAKS.
They have the numbers to flip all of Yaks BL or FA BL but they never do. They focus the weaker server every match up, faster points and quicker.
There is already a solution to combat population imbalances: 2v1.

Except it doesn’t work well at all. Unless you’re in gold tier and have a dedicated, consistent player base to repeatedly enforce the alliance.
SBI has their own website and their own TS server. Getting people on is a problem though most of the time. :P

Thanks for mentioning DaoC. I think the 1 v 1 v 1 was more clearly defined there because of the lores of Albion v Hibernia v Midgard. Each side had a unique culture, but in this game all the races are mixed together and servers can be populated with any of the races. Makes you wonder what might happen if they separated out the races in WvW (Human v Charr v Sylvari v Norn v Asura).

Server identity was a really big thing when GW2 first came out, but now it’s pretty much a joke with megaservers and how often people jump ship for the next great WvW server.
What they need to do is designate all the servers into three factions, for example:
10 servers into the “Phoenix”
10 servers into the “Turtle”
10 servers into the “Rabbit”
Maguuma has been fighting the same servers repeatedly in gold tier. We finally got a fight VS. Blackgate due to BG getting double-teams and a bunch of hard core groups jumping ship on BG. Only to have BG steamrolling both DB and Mag simply because BG has double the pop we do.

That kind of optimism is nice but it’s not realistic. I doubt the amount of new players is keeping pace with the amount of people leaving this game. MMOs lose players over time, GW2 is no exception and WvWvW is plagued with obvious design flaws. What I think it happening is guild rosters are drying up and remaining players are seeking refuge under new tags.
I’m so close to leaving WvW all together myself. I agree a 100%.

Honestly they should have a seigerazor event for the whole map at this point.
I’ve probably lost around 100 gold leaving bags behind while fighting a losing battle, running to an objective or fighting in a golem….
As general as they are, it’s awesome to see that the community asked for dev responses to reassure us that they’re listening and now, one day later they’re doing it.

If my keep has scouts, upgrades, def siege, a port, 1.700 suppy and a zerg on the map that arrives within a minute to defend, and your keep has none of that, which keep will be attacked by the third server?

So I partially agree: Defense is very important, but one should carefully choose which objects are worth do be defended.
What about servers that only have 15 people defending throughout the day? Should we punish players for choosing a server with a low WvW population? Should we charge a player to transfer to servers with better population because of poor game mechanics?

Enough is enough, the player base has brought this to the attention of the developers thousands of times. It was hotly discussed in the collaborative development thread (which hasn’t gone anywhere) and it continues to be discussed, yet nothing’s been done, or even experimented with.
The current core mechanics in WvW repeatedly punish servers for lacking coverage.
It’s been said thousands of times. When can we expect some news? Some ideas? Some change?
I love playing servers that have 1000% more coverage then my server, it’s so fun throwing siege down and then losing a keep an hour later because we only have 15 defending.
I can’t wait for HoD to fall apart when they get into tier 1. They will fall apart so quickly.

Make guild siege have a 2 hour decay time.
All I do is WvW, I have so much of this stuff I’ve ended up deleting full stacks. :\

I feel your pain man, I really do. I love WvW, but I hate it more for how flawed it can be.
They will have to make the new Lion’s Arch server side only, that way we can rally troops, host server events, and happily talk in /m chat about things going on in the server.

yeah, the karma/badges rewards in EOTM are pretty ridiculous for almost no effort. I’m not convinced EOTM was ever a good idea – it’s rare to have all 4 WVW maps fully queued these days, even in T1.
I feel like EOTM was yet another poorly thought through waste of resources, just like e.g. custom arenas (that aren’t customisable), tournament tickets, environment weapons, amongst others.
But I like environment weapons :\
I used to motivate my server into joining me in WvW and to follow my tag. I would reward random player with loot for following me around at the end of the night.
I can’t do this anymore because I’ve no idea who I’m talking to when I try to rally support for WvW.
On rest night LA used to be filled with people shouting to join them for WvW. People would be trying to motivate people to get ready for a great night of fighting but that’s all gone now.
they dont want to fix the coverage issue (wvw collaborative development) because the way it is everyone is trying to get more people in wvw all day because of coverage and manpower issues and thats obv good for their game. about making wvw better i dont expect nothing from them in general, about the only thing i trust they get done for wvw at some point are fixing the lag issues.. even if it is only with making so many players quit the maps arent full anymore.
I can tell you I’m tired of campaigning for my server, it’s a kittening game, not a political race.
At first I thought that the swiss system would be cool and lead to a lot of interesting results, but now it’s clear that it’s just a way to highlight the immense failure of the free transfer and pre-tournament transfers in general. The swiss system would probably have been a lot more interesting if the various servers could move between leagues during the 9 weeks. But then when you encourage server stacking via transfers, you end up with what we have, very little competition between the ranks… Even in the middle of NA servers, because HoD and FA are always going to be 1 and 2, the middle servers competing for 3 are all going to get knocked down in the rankings the week they play HoD and FA. Just like BS my server, at this point, we can stop playing entirely and take 8th place, OR we can put in a huge effort and take 8th place because we can’t compete with the Oceanic population of the servers above us. And it’s Week 5… another month of meaningless PPT… Spoon
Pretty well said, I think after this season I’ll be pretty much done with WvW.
Bottom line is WvW is in such a sad state, it’s the worst I’ve seen.
Blockhead Magee is right, many of us don’t pop our ArenaNet tags when playing. When we do play with it on, it tends to act as a beacon that draws the enemy in like moths to a light bulb.
We are out there, even if you don’t know it.
I really hope this is true because at the moment most of my experience in WvW are not very fun!
Seriously, it’s been 1 and half years since release, and this “buff” is still an absolute joke.
The community has made numerous threads about it, and it could easily be something that helps balance WvW for lower populated servers.
With the recent removal of repair costs, the most beneficial bonus from the outmanned buff has been removed. Everything ells is pretty useless in terms of evening the playing field, and it’s been stated a hundred times by the community!!!
I believe the counter to making this a better buff has been, “We don’t want to encourage servers to purposely play with less numbers.”

If a server has the organization to deliberately keep a map under 20 players so they receive a buff to gain a competitive advantage over superior numbers they probably deserve to win.

Yep, they stated it was going to be a way to test new systems for WvW, but it’s just taken away people from WvW.
5 months ago GW2 started Collaborative Development in all content areas of the game. I think it’s safe to say PvE is doing great, and with the new PvP patch that area of the game is receiving a lot of new faces, but what’s happened with WvW?
Well, I think it’s safe to say not a whole lot.
At the time Collaborative Development began, the Edge of the Mists was in the end stages of beta, since then it’s not really received much attention as a “playground for testing new ideas.”
They’ve added some content, but they’ve not focused on any of the concerns brought up by the community.
The main topics covered in the Collaborative Development thread were WvW population and scoring. A lot of great ideas were thrown around, but we’ve yet to see any response to these in game.
Can we expect to see anything?
What are your expectations for WvW?

Zerging is human nature. It is how wars are won, how battle are won, how fights are won. The more people you have the better. The game emulates life in that regard.
