Right now the only people who can see your rank are enemy players. There are no unique items or titles other than some abilities that really distinguish someone as a veteran players.

Even the PvP players have a way of showing off rank with finishers now, but WvW players have no way of showing off how much time they have committed other than rank abilities.

It would be pretty neat if players could display their rank title in PvE, and even cooler if every 10 levels a player would be rewards a unique token that they could spend on some awesome looking armor and weapons.

Maybe just add an NPC in an enemy garrison, or tower that you have to speak to, something as simple as that would bring a lot of people into WvW.

Or you could just add some unique armor skins based on rank…

I happen to play on a server that is majorly PvE focused. It’s always difficult to get players onto maps after the weekend, and the Living World updates really put a large dent in our WvW populations.

Is it possible to start adding some achievements for the living world stuff in WvW? I’ve missed out on a lot of PvE because I focus on WvW, and it would be fun for both groups if they could get some achievements while helping the server.

On smaller servers with people not as interested in WvW you can really see the effects of these weekly updates. My server is suffering from the usual number of players in WvW because players are busy racing for achievement points, something you can’t really get in WvW…

It’s bad enough that WvW has started to feel like a completely separated from the rest of the game, but now players are so busy trying to get achievements that can only be obtained in PvE that they hardly focus on WvW.

The correct answer should not be to transfer to a server with a WvW focus, that’s a kittenty answer for flawed mechanics.

The correct answer should be giving players some unique incentives to come into WvW every day to obtain some exclusive rewards and achievements.

7/19 SBI-Kaineng-DH Part II

Anyone for fight club this week? I will keep asking until someone shows up since I think we are still waiting on Reikou to fight torrid….I need to experience this SBI & Kaineng skill first hand b/c I sure haven’t seen it on the battlefield. Well, except for the great fight at the NE tower last night in SBI borderlands, however, we were slightly (/sarcasm) outnumbered. All this talk of skill and I’ve only seen one creative thing from you guys once. That’s hardly grounds to consider yourself better than DH.

The only way we [PD] can get a half way decent fight is to take your structures and then defend them. Otherwise you all tend to run away from us at first sight unless the numbers are grossly in your favor. However, it’s funny how far each of your servers’ zergs will chase one person around the map. Taking a structure doesn’t always seen to work either. For instance, last night after we were pushed out of the NE tower we relocated to the south east….you guys made one decent size push (walls were down and we were getting trebbed) and got slaughtered. After 15 to 20 minutes waiting on you to come back we got bored and most of us logged out. Seems like unless there is a crazy zerg (mad skills) for you guys that outnumber us 2 to 1 we [PD] tend to be able to do what we want.

How’s my grade for this post?

I see these kinds of post every week, from every server including my own. It’s very easy to judge a server when you’re on the other end doing the killing.

Everyone is pretty opinionated about their server being the best and the others being garbage.

Hello Anvil Rock! I know your pain…

If you’ve been playing since launch you should remember that Stormbluff Isle was designed from the ground up to be an organized server full of alliances and such.

We were the top tier in WvW for about 4 months when we lost our Oceanic timezone guild War Machine, the same guild that helped Kaineng rise before they left and quit all together.

After they left SBI a lot of other guilds followed, one person jumps ships the rats will follow!

If you’re looking for a great community with many dedicated players I suggest checking out Stormbluff Isle, we’ve really been working hard to get back into WvW and run training sessions every week for new players.

What’s worse is low levels are basically a free rally for the enemy team.

You should only be able to rally off of someone who is lvl 70+

There are some really big flaws with the design of WvW and I’ve yet to see any news on these mechanics being fixed or even discussed by development.

There are a lot of servers dieing because guilds are transferring to servers that can contend with better coverage. If transferring is the only way to find a fair match up then that speaks pretty loudly about how flawed WvW is in terms of game design.

There’s a lack of “progress” within WvW in that each day feels the same, you upgrade a keep, go to bed and log on the next day to do the same thing. Over and over again. Every week is the same, you upgrade keeps then lose them overnight or vice versa.

There’s no way to progress up the server ranks without massively campaigning for guilds to come to your server, or offering to pay guilds their transfer fee.

You bust your butt in WvW all week and have nothing to show for it but a title, there are no unique items or armor, you get a tittle that only enemies can see.

Lower levels are actually a hindrance in WvW because they offer the enemy easy chances to rally, so a lot of “hardcore” players ultimately end up shunning them away.

And finally, short of map completion there is very little offered to get people interested in WvW, you either like it or hate it and the game is divided between WvW and PvW.

This is a blatant example of why the mechanics of WvW are flawed, if you don’t have the coverage spend gold/real money and pay for a guild to come to your server.

The mechanics of a game should never be allowed to be altered by outside forces, if a game allows such things to happen the game design is flawed.

I made a post about how WvW was destroying servers, it’s not surprising. They need to fix the mechanics or the competitive type will move on of find a server that can compete till there’s nothing left for the other servers.

I think the scoring mechanic should work based on how many enemies are in a map. So if you have no enemies and are holding a whole zone you’re not ticking freely.

If the correct answer is to transfer to a server, doesn’t that point out the huge flaw in the way WvW is designed?

You’re arguments are only valid if you have the required population and coverage in WvW. Not every server has a guild to cover time slots, and it’s silly that it’s become a requirement to compete in WvW.

The current mechanics of WvW have created schisms within the community , and in my opinion are ruining some servers.

Let’s begin with the core concept of WvW. You capture objectives, and as long as you hold those objectives at the end of a 15 minute countdown you’re rewarded with points. It’s my belief that this is a major flaw within the system, because it relies on proper WvW population to work correctly.

If you’re lacking a proper population you end with situations like this (See attachment). You have a server holding 95% of a map for hours without any kind of opposition, essentially offering free points to a group because the other server fails to show up, or just does not have enough people interested in WvW.

Which brings me to my main point; this massive separation between people who want to WvW and those who don’t care for WvW has caused much strive within servers. I’m starting to notice this happening on my own server, as we have recently had a number of individuals and guilds begin to leave.

If you’re faced with a low WvW population you have a few options, all of them are pretty ridiculous in terms of game mechanics and design:

  • Transfer to another server that has proper WvW population and coverage. If you’re a competitive person this is a valid option, but the fact that it will cost you gold/money to transfer because of a flaw within the mechanics is an absolute joke.
  • Try and recruit guilds from other servers. The fact that you almost need to create a a semi political campaign to get new players on your servers is ludicrous. It takes a lot of time, effort and people to successfully campaign for a server. Players are forced to find ways to fix the broken population mechanics.
  • Try and get more people interested in WvW. This is pretty difficult. It’s hard enough to get players interested when there is an overall feeling that their efforts make no difference. You spend several hours upgrading and defending a keep only to log off and lose everything. Why bother with WvW when I can spend just as much time in PvE and feel like my time matters. You either like WvW or you don’t and the massive separation between the two is pretty evident on some servers.

So what it comes down to is the big elephant in the room. The one people have been screaming about since launch many months back; WvW population and the divide between those who care about WvW and those that don’t.

At times it feels like there is such a massive divide between WvW and the rest of the game that I sometimes wish WvW was only offered on a few select servers. It’s frustrating for competitive players to know that the PvE world is full of people, but none of them find any interest or reason for WvW. And with the new (awesome) content coming out every 2-3 weeks it’s even more difficult to get peoples interested.

So what ultimately happens is players are forced to make a decision, deal with the flaws of WvW mechanics, or move to another server were those flaws can hopefully be overcome, leaving many servers feeling a bit empty.

Another Thief. If you want two different classes then a Mesmer or D/D Ele would be good choices as well.

There’s never a problem filling up EB, because it’s fun, there’s lots of action and you can get loads of karma and bags!

This is a problem on some servers with a lower WvW population because the majority of the server tends to gravitate towards what’s fun (and I don’t blame them).

The fun factor on EB is about 10x that of a borderland, especially if you are defending. So I think some added content wouldn’t really hurt it.

The borderlands should be redesigned to offer more unique rewards, perhaps even a chest event in the basement of your homelands garrison if you upgrade it to tier 3, or after defending it for over an hour. After all, EB does have the giant grub and such.

Turn the Skritt and Centaur camps into mercenary camps, offering more options to attack and defend towers and supply camps.

There are a lot of cool things that could be done!

Here is all the proof in the universe that WvW population mechanics are broken to the core.

Obviously these servers have the population to contend, but because PvE population is separated from WvW population you end up with failed game mechanics punishing those who want to WvW.

To be honest, the problem I think is not that the population is unbalanced, but as some ppl already said, this is mainly a server coverage problem. If your opponents outnumber you at times, you should always be able to fend em off. Communication is only thing u need. Ask some friends to help defend and your done. Also the server match-ups are usually always quite balanced if it comes to numbers, so its not that your total wvw population is 10 at some point and the other server has queu. This can not and will probably never happen with the match up system.

That’s bullkitten, you obviously haven’t played on other servers. Asking for help on a server consisting of people who don’t care about WvW is impossible. Communication can only go so far and last for so long.

WvW is broken because it does not take into account the people who do not want to WvW. The mechanics are based around the idea that everyone on a server wants to WvW and that you can get more people by just asking and rallying people in, but you really can’t.

They need to combined server populations into factions, and changed WvW to faction vs faction.

What’s going to happen is everyone will eventually transfer to the top tiers because its the only way to get a balanced fight.

I’ve had enough trying to defend a map against a server with 40+ extra people, and so I’m taking a hiatus from the game, much like I did 4 months ago.

The separation between PvE and WvWvW is killing a lot of servers. You have new PvE content coming out roughly every 3-4 weeks, causing many players to focus more on PvE then WvWvW.

This leaves servers with an already low WvW population with even less people and I’ve been experiencing this a lot lately on my server.

Every week more people transfer to the top tiered servers because they are tired of having no population in World vs. World, and that’s a pretty big deal breaker for me.

It’s really a sham there is a such a division between PvE and WvW on some servers, as the population imbalance within WvW is still the biggest issue with WvW in GW2.

I have 1,200 healing power and it now tick for about 500-550 ish. I can’t remember the exact number but it’s better now.

Add that to healing signet, and a banner spec warrior for permanent regen!

Good fights all around, capping BL Gari at late prime time might not have had any strategic importance but it felt nice to grab it as an underdog.

This match up is loads of fun when each sever has the numbers to properly compete!

They hadn’t attacked the tower for 30 hours, it was tier 3, so we took it to reset all the defenses in hopes AR would grab it later.
