300 gold, been playing since release, all I do is WvW.
Anet is basically charging the community for a feature the community wanted put into the game to help large groups and events organize. They’ve taken a highly requested idea and spun it around as a gold sink.
Charging gold for a colored tag designed to help promote oragization, split large groups (zergs) and promote tactics (something WvW is severely lacking) is an outrage. It can be compared to charging players gold to use map chat, a tool used to organize groups and for tactics, much like the commander tag.
I beg that the decision to charge gold to access colored tags be reconsidered.
Just read the comments of over 400 players over at reddit:

300 gold for a new color is a joke, you might as well start charging players gold to unlock the use of map chat.
Might as well buy a precursor if you plan on having an account tag and a color, you’ll be half way there.
What a joke.
Anet is slowly becoming just as bad as Comcast.
Charging the WvW community for the new commander tag colors is the biggest mistake Anet can make. Not only did it take a year to implement a feature that should have been easy to add, you’re charging the very community that came up with the idea in the first place.
Hardcore WvW players don’t have massives amount of gold, commanders regularly spend gold on upgrades and seige and miss out on quite a lot of PvE content.
I for one have never had more than 300 gold at anytime and I’m still nowhere near buying my precursor. This game needs gold sinks, but not for items that will benefit the longevity of a game.
Charging the community for a utility that’s designed to help with communications and tactics is like charging players with a gold fee to unlock team and map chat.
I ask that you please reconsider charging the community to access the commander colors, because you’re making a huge mistake. The forums are evidence enough on how the community feels.
If you read this post, please take a moment to support this topic with a reply.

I always thought powerful banners was kitten, I mean it can crit for around 2k, but it’s not worth it.
Maybe if they applied confusion in a small area around the target?
I am going to jump in here answer these as honestly as I am able.
- We can’t talk about that right now. Once the in-development features reach a state where we, as a company, are comfortable talking about them, we will.
- Some player requests are under development. What those are and when they will be completed, I can’t say at this time for reasons mentioned above.
- Devon is very busy with his job duties and only has limited time to devote to reading the forums. If he spent the time demanded of him responding to threads on the forums, his work would suffer. My job duties have me reading and reporting on the forums regularly to ensure that Devon and the rest of the team are aware of active concerns within the WvW community. I do this for other parts of the forum as well. As has been mentioned a multitude of times previously, our developers read the forums as much as they are able, but time prevents them from responding to everything they read.
Mark, first of all thanks a lot for posting.
Your first and second points are clear; if the company can’t talk about upcoming features until they have reached a certain state I can accept that as your policy.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t communicate with us more than you have been. We know the team reads the forums but communication is a two way thing and I think there is scope for increased communication without breaking your company policy. A couple of examples of things that would help:
1. Can we get an indication when you communicate popular concerns to the team? This gives us confirmation that concerns have been heard and allows us as a community to manage and focus our discussion knowing that you are aware of a particular issue. Without something like this it is hard to know whether we should keep raising an issue to try and highlight its importance.
2. Is it possible for the team to let you know when an idea or suggestion made on the forums really stands out to them, so you can respond with a quick post to let us know the team liked it? Again this gives the suggestion some focus and players can rally around such ideas and have more meaningful discussion around it. Maybe the team could even feed questions back to the players? I have seen Evan do this on the PvP forums.
Is the above possible? Fine, you can’t tell you what features you are working on and when they are coming, I understand that. But I don’t think the current level of communication is sufficient and on balance there is greater communication on the PvE and PvP sub-forums. Would you agree with that?
Very well said!
Thanks for the response Mark, I feel better knowing that things are at least being worked on.
I realize the bumping old posts can be quite annoying but I believe the reason it’s done is because the lack of responses and content WvW has received lately.
If you look at half of the bumped threads they are all promises of content that we’ve not seen.
Bumping old threads is a reminder to the developers that false promises do not fall on deaf ears.

Awesome ideas, but I don’t think there is anyone actively developing World vs World right now.
WvW is a joke, it’s in such a sad state. It’s all karma trians and jumping from one map to the next because most servers can’t field the numbers to have more than one map defended.
So if you see numbers on the map, you flip to a map without them and fight NPC’s. BORING, BORING, BORING.
Fix you’re kittening game Anet.
The only solution is to not play WvW at all. I spent 4 hours upgrading my borderlands today only to have it flipped in 30 minutes.
4 hours of wasted time. WvW is a waste of time, it’s nothing but flipping undefended objectives 80% of the time.
Good discussion here guys. We’ve got our own list of potential future tricks and traps, and while I can’t go into detail on what’s in the works, I can give you guys insight into some of the guidelines we try and follow when creating these.
Specifically there are a few WvW traps abilities that we try to avoid:
- Traps that can instantly kill players. We don’t want you to be able to passively wipe a group by stacking three invisible explosive traps on top of each-other. That said, we are more open to these types of traps as long as there is some counterplay available (like the trap has a visible land mine effect, or gives the group warning to dodge away quickly before it explodes.)
- Traps that summon additional combatants (guards, creatures, golems, etc.) This is more for server performance concerns (skill lag.) While we have exception to this in WvW already, the idea is to avoid making the problem worse.
- Traps that are functionally extremely similar to an existing profession skill. Ranger Spike Trap, Thief Needle Trap, etc. Similarly we probably wouldn’t do a trap that just applies a standard condition to an area (Cripple, Poison, Burning, etc.)
Please, please, please no to the first one. It will be highly abused and destroy open-field combat.
Two. I could see this working but the roamers won’t be happy. You could lay one down and easily bait a person back to the trap if you get low. It would really hurt the roamers that we have left.
Three. This is the best one here as long as they all deal about the same damage with varying conditions/boons.
Her post was stating the things they avoid when thinking of new trap ideas, no things they’re thinking of so you don’t have to worry.
I’m happy we got a reply, don’t shoot the messenger.
That’s about 10 gold down the drain, had about 10 Omega Golems ready to go on the enemy borderland, when we came back after the patch they were all gone.
Is there something we can do in the future to prevent this from happening?
We need to see how FA does in T2. I’d like to see how they compete.
FA has been to T2 before. The majority of the population isn’t going to be intimidated by SoS or Mag, not when they fought them often before season 2. I’m not saying FA is going to win the PPT battle, but they won’t balk at fights. I can promise that.
Mag is home of some pretty good guild groups, FA is going to learn a lot and when they come out bruised and bloody they will learn and only then will I fear them as an SBI player
Hey you avid WvW players. I think we could use another trap in WvW! Let’s come up with some cool ideas for some new traps to help with game play!
I’ll go first!
Inspired by the Aetherblade path in Twilight Arbor, I noticed a boss throwing down some blade saws!
How cool would it be to have a trap that would trigger these little bad boys? Now for balance sake we would have to make these traps pretty expensive, maybe even require guild tokens be used to purchase them, but I think it would add some tactics to WvW.
Do you send in a scout first to trigger the traps? Do you try to avoid zerg balling into a structure and perhaps take an alternative route to the keep lords circle?
Another trap idea I’ve thought about is the anit-zerg trap. This trap would do an AoE damage in a small area, but the damage would multiply based on the number of targets within the area. Think of a chain lightning that would continue to chain as long as targets remained in the area.
This would prevent huge-ball zergs and force zergs to play with a bit more tactics.
Yea, it would be sweet to have a defensive trait line that when completely filled gave the player a defensive tag!
Brings back some good memories. It’s interesting to read some of the answers Mike Ferguson gives us.
http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/live-coverage-wvw-designers-mike-fergusons-reddit-iama/
At one point thieves might have had the ability to go through enemy gates!
Whatever happened to Mike Ferguson anyway?
I’ve watched quite a few GvG fights in OS when ive been dueling there and tbh it just looks like 2 hammer trains surging backwards and forth. The only interesting stuff occurs on the periphery of the fight where the thieves/dps are operating trying to pick off anyone that drifts too far from the melee ball. And then getting countered by enemy thieves/dps.
Im sure in the main hammer train groups there is a condi battle waging but it all seems a bit meh to me.
Definitely arguable if those 20 man GvG blobs smashing into each other is the epitome of skilled gameplay.
Is PPT flawed, yes, but a metric is required as not everyone wants to GvG. Having said that im not sure why an arena instance wasnt built into the game so people could take their 20v20 GvG’s there and slug it out.
That’s because the game is designed around 5 man teams, I admit that GvG tactics really don’t differ from guild to guild, and the game really doesn’t promote GvG to well.
Even Warhammer had a better system :C
They could easily give a rewards for defeating 10 players during a defensive event. This would prevent people who were afk from getting the achievements.
I’ve heard this is the result of transfers, but it’s still not very fun.
If I can only play certain times of the day why should I be punished?
Isn’t the whole ideology behind not fixing the WvW population problem based on not wanting to punish players who play certain times?
What’s the difference?
I give all credit in the world to FA for their success, but it’s currently not even remotely fun given the current mechanics of WvW.
It’s not like that just on your server.
Oh, I’m aware. If you look at all the current match-ups in NA currently there’s only one match where each server is within 15k of each-other. Every other match up has one server ahead by miles.
Apparently the worker was queued it’s just a display bug…but still, this bug has been around for a year now.
So, tonight I was trying to upgrade our garrison, when I noticed several prompt messages about the door being reinforced and the guard level being raised.
I’m familiar with this old bug, however….
I upgraded canons to be built and notice we were sitting at 400/500 supply, once a Dolyak dropped off another supply we were capped at 500 so I triggered a second worker.
Garrison supply dropped 300 but a second work worker did not show up, the icon is still blocked out even though it drained 300 supply.
Tickets are fixed, now let’s get down to some discussion!
WvW was a “feature” checkbox for GW2 at launch. I don’t think they ever meant for it to be a significant part of the game and it shows. It is a decent implementation of medium scale PvP but it was never meant to be and has never been treated as a main force in the GW2 system. Because of this development has lagged and bugs have remained.
The next modern MMO release that offers RvR or WvW as a main course that isn’t a mess will empty this game of most of its WvW population.
Sad thing is I don’t see any game on the horizon that will offer this. A few games might have potential but I’m skeptical at this point in time.
I don’t mind being outnumbered in a fight, I don’t mind getting killed over and over and over again.
What I hate is losing simply because my server does not have numbers on during certain times of the day.
When FA shows up on our BL and says, “It’s time for us to flip your map” there’s not much we can do unless it’s our prime time; just like many servers in WvW.
Why not create a map that expands as more players join? For example, if there are only 15 defenders on a BL map, perhaps lock out Hills and Bay, losing the ticks entirely but also not allowing the enemy server to capture that. Thus forcing a fight at the towers or garrison.
All good discussions, I just wish we could get a bit more things the community has asked for implemented.
Great idea, I have one 18 slot bag filled with siege at all times, why should I be punished with less loot for being a commander? :C
According to Anet, that kind of thing would probably take a year to put into the game.
The point of this thread is that the majority of the time WvW is not fun. I like to call it a “perfect storm” when each server actually has a balanced match up and the score remains remotely close, WvW is incredibly fun, but it’s pretty kitten 80% of the time.
Sure the fights are fun at times, and many people enjoy the open field battles, but the system does not encourage this type of play, nor reward it so the end result is frustration from the player base.
There’s so many interesting things WvW could do.
I even remember them speaking about changing the scoring system from a week to week basis, for example, camps would be worth more points for a week; but of course we’ve yet to see them do that.
I guess they better get started on a new borderland map, because if they wait any longer there wont be a WvW community.
I just have everyone on TS report the player for verbal abuse and hope that 30 people reporting one person will get them a warning.
This is the result of transfers and it’s killing the game. Transfers are NOT the answer to kitten WvW mechanics.
People are allowed to do what they want to get the most fun out of the game. If it means transferring to a more desirable server, then who are we to say that what they are doing is wrong.
I mean, I’m 100% sure your server is trying to get transfers as well. Let’s not be hypocritical just because one server was more successful than others.
Also, why do you care about the score in the first place? What reason do you have to care for ppt? Just have fun and look for fights.
It’s silly that it’s the end solution to game balance.
How many games have you played before that say, “Oh the teams are uneven, looks like you have to run a campaign ad to get more players to play on your side, good luck spending real money and advertising outside of the game.”
I care about PPT because that’s what the game is designed around. Football, Soccer, Basketball, they are all fun but the ultimate goal is to win.
I fight for my server and my goal is to see my server get better, but when the matches are so uneven it’s no longer fun.
If the match is close, and you know you’ve done everything you can to win and you still lose that’s fine, but when you’ve done everything you can and don’t even come close it’s not really fun.

Howler is actually nice, because most ppl don’t even notice its a legendary. Out of countless groups I’ve been in over the months only like a few players actually notice that I have it. Most of these are also posed as a question:
person 1: is that the legendary warhorn?
person 2: lol
Yea, it needs a bit more notice factor :C
Thank you for your perspective zolton,
You’ve stumbledupon the frustration that all WvW regulars feel.
Welcome to the club
100% this, don’t expect much change, we haven’t seen any indication that it will be different in a year.
If Arenanet would say that they are working on something big they would start the well known process:
- people would ask for an ETA
- short time later people will start to demand an ETA
- people will start to create their own ETAs
- people will start to complain that devs failed to meet the imaginary ETAs
- people will start to blame Arenanet that promises were broken
It will be better when Arenanet works in silence.
For me it would let me know I can quit and come back later or just quit all together….
What’s really funny is that they said it’s currently really hard to change these achievements, which makes me think the coding is just such a tangled mess that we wont be seeing a change for a long, long time.
When is the next one so I can get my hopes up? :C
A LEGENDARY War Horn, should sound pretty freaking epic considering the best sounding horn in the game is the Adventure Box one.
:\
I’ve heard this is the result of transfers, but it’s still not very fun.

You want not fun?
Check out Henge of Denravi’s fall from the top – similar to FA’s last year – but FA learned their lesson and started buying guilds by the dozen.
We have had guilds leave, people very discouraged and players non-existent on a server that won Silver not even two weeks ago.
It’s after the season ends that there are serious issues in WvW – this kind of inequity is not fun and will turn players to the real world and other gaming events.
I hate sPvP and I don’t like PvE.
I do not watch TV.
I do not go to movies.
I socialize through social media – but only intellectually.
I do have a life but it’s very limited to what I can do – I am disabled.
This is my social outlet, my fun, my “brainstorming” fun and my only outlet that has people in it – I have no family like you sitting there snickering about some of us “complaining”. Please imagine having no family to support you – ever.
Add to that the fact that I am filled with tumors and are in an enormous amount of pain 24/7 —- any outlet that gives one something constructive to do is a welcome relief.
I am sick, I am not stupid, this game is WvW, not PvP and the gaming world wants WvW and they are moving to other venues to find what Anet has but will not improve with or without our input, at all, -even after almost two years.
I’m sorry to hear that, and I feel your pain in being disgruntled with how WvW has become a transfer fair for servers to rise and fall.
It’s a kitten shame because they came pretty kitten close to a competitive scene but failed so hard to make the correct changed needed.
If they don’t make major changes in the next year I see the WvW community pretty much moving on to the next best thing.
This is the result of transfers and it’s killing the game. Transfers are NOT the answer to kitten WvW mechanics.
If they don’t make major changes to WvW in another year I can see most WvW players moving to another game….
What happend with the commander CDI of half year ago? And why another CDI if we havent seen anything of the last ones?
Bigger changes need time. We had to wait approx half a year for things like wardrobe or world bosses triggered by guilds. For more features around commander title I would also expect at least 6-8 month for the transfer into the game. Smaller proposals from the commander CDI are already implemented like invisibility of commander symbol for enemies or badges as costs for the commander title.
It is a pity that they had to postpone the CDI about the last tournament. I hope that we don’t have to wait too long for its launch.
Can we at least get a post saying they are working on big changes? I will give them 2 freaking years if they just come out and say, “We are working on something that will make WvW more enjoyable for high populated and low populated servers”
But we don’t get anything. NOTHING. ZERO. It’s frustrating.
I’ve heard this is the result of transfers, but it’s still not very fun.

Hello, I come to the general discussion thread in hopes that more people might participate in an open discussion regarding development focus as a whole in regards to Guild Wars 2.
This is an open discussion with the community, please try to keep all posts constructive.
Since it’s release about two years ago Guild Wars 2 has seen great success, even achieving a massively successful launch in China! The game was recently revisited by a gaming website and re-reviewed the game, giving it a 9/10 points. (http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/24/3728326/guild-wars-2-review-second-coming)
I have nothing but love for this game, but there’s one area in particular that I have always felt alienated in compared to the other parts of the game, and I’m referring to World vs. World vs. World.
The developers have divided Guild Wars 2 into three parts:
Player vs. Environment or PvE.
Player vs. Player or PvP.
World vs. World vs. World or WvW.
Now each area has seen content added in the last 2 years, but I think it’s an honest assessment to say that WvW has not seen nearly the amount of development that the other two areas of the game have received.
I understand and agree that PvE should be the focus of development, it’s what Guild Wars 2 was made for, and they are doing a great job with the recent content! The Developers listened to the community, and continue to do a great job adjusting to what players are suggesting.
PvP has recently received a lot of attention and received lot’s of love from the development team. They listened to the community, changed the wardrobe system and added a fun and unique way to gain gear and tokens through PvP alone. (I wish I could get dungeon tokens from doing WvW!)
Now let’s look at WvW, what was promised was a map were “new” things would be tested, were the development team could try out new ideas, and perhaps tweak the way current WvW is played.
What we ended up with is something that feels more like PvE mode in WvW. The map is fun, but it’s not WvW, I’ve yet to defend an objective or have a large open field fight and it has no merit on the rest of WvW. The community has sated their opinions, maybe not in the most respectful way, but they’ve stated them.
We had a Collaborated Development thread 6 months ago, players voiced issues and came up with some really great ideas to fix them but nothing ever came of it. Not one change suggested has been made to WvW that was suggested.
It’s been over a year since WvW received it’s “Collaborated Development” thread, and I still continued to feel alienated. The community wants content, we want change. We want the developers to tell us “It will be okay, we are working on changes.” But all we receive week in and week out is very little, and that really hurts.
Where do you think development should be focused next?
More PvE content? (excluding the living story content)
More PvP content? (More maps, more tournaments)
More WvW content? (Listen to the community)
(edited by grifflyman.8102)
Let’s get to the point. Make a date for the next one, create some topics to focus on and let’s get started.
