Just an idea to start some discussion. There would fionitely be ppl wanting to “coach.” Just like there are shoutcasters.

But I look back and think coaching is a bad idea because the level of instant feedback is too much and makes it to necessary to have a coach. It’s not like in basketball the players have headset and coach can give them instant instructions lol.

And yeah Anet needs to watch out for abusive Spectators who inform the other team and act as spies.

I wonder how the design decision came about.

I guess it makes sense with an axe you are hacking your opponent to death. The button mashing feels like you are hacking away mindlessly, which is a pretty cool feeling. “DIE DIE DIE!!!!”

1. Trolls. Wanting to see how big of threads they can create and how much attention they can get.

2. Kids and teenagers getting their first taste of the excitement that comes with protesting a large company. At this point they are selfishly victimizing Anet for their own entertainment.

3. People who gain pleasure from making demands from Anet, because in real life, these people have nobody they can demand from. They may be poor, meek, and bullied in real life, and they are venting through the forums taking their anger out on Anet.

Yeah the point is though I don’t want to practice getting out using the box because I feel it isn’t a worthy element and might as well just be changed into a beach. You can say that to anything that is annoying in the game and say “just practice or learn to play.” Just Like raid of capricorn sharks are annoying (much better now).

Nothing against you or anything, I’m just explaining.

MORE FEEDBACK:
There are areas with heavy snow/ice and these areas have crevices in the group that you get stuck in and must jump to continue moving. I’d rather not have to do this and just be able to run smoothly.

I also took some screens of these guys that got on top of some areas of the map you shouldn’t be able to reach. I sent to exploits@anet hope u get them.

What if in a tpvp match you have 5 members plus a coach? The coach has access to map mode and spectator view, and is able to call shots and direct the team just like a football, basketball, or baseball coach.

Like “Jordan go treb now. Split to mine and henge 1-2. Double team their bunker!” Lol, you get the idea.

It would add another member and a deeper element to the pvp scene.

I don’t know, but custom servers will solve alot of problems too. Since we got no ladders, other people can host their own tournaments while Anet works on features. Elite teams can set up skirmishes/tournies without worrying about paid queues.

i think the issue is when you are busy fighting other people, when a 3rd dude pops his frenzy and globals you, leaving you thinking “WTF RAGE” …that’s not fun PVP

Atleast frenzy should have some bigger indicator like a light flash or character turns color so that everyone can see even if they don’t have them targetted.

gwawer.9805

Right now the free T ques are still too long because so many players are playing hotjoin. There should be a much higher reward for playing tournies so we can draw more players away from hotjoin.

Looking at all the full 16/16 servers, imagine if those people were funneled into the tourny system, then we would have instant-queues.

Flaws of the new 5v5 Hotjoin.

in PvP

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

Yeah its annoying to have a server of 5v5, then the map rotates and you are left with 2v3…

I think 7v7 or 6v6 plaer limit is the sweet spot for hotjoin, so maybe they can change 8v8 to 7v7 or 6v6.

8v8 is eating up all the players that could be in 5v5 servers.

The thing is that people don’t care about winning in hotjoin, they just want to zerg, even if its a 5v5. Maybe give more glory for the winning team and for spreading out for map control.

Suggestion - Reduced Damage if Focus Fired

in PvP

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

Since this game has no healers, 2v2 or larger proceed with one guy dying very quickly from being focus fired. I propose a system where a focused player will gain greater protection.

Example: 2v2 fight. Instead of a team focus firing one guy as fast as possible, the strategy becomes “I’ll take the thief and you take the ranger.” Now the fight lasts longer, is less zergy/cheesy, and we get to watch 1v1 skills.

Then it becomes more like, say, basketball where one man guards the other. Yes you can double team, but it leaves one guy free.
Similarly, under my system, if you focus one guy, the guy you are not focus firing gets to dish out all his damage without needing to worry about CC, dodging, etc, since nobody is “on him.” At the same time, you are not getting “as much bang for your buck” because your focus fire damage is being diminished by the system.

Now imagine a 3v3 or 5v5 situation in a PVP esports stream with these inner 1v1 fights occuring. A bunch of players duking it out fighting for one node, but still doing 1v1 for the most part. That would be cool to watch.

Stealth

in PvP

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

I think stealth can be toned down, but not removed completely. Think of it more like an Elite ability with a long cool down. But a big powerful stealth ability based around stealth wouldn’t be much fun either. It shouldn’t be part of a character’s 1-5 and be usable every 9 seconds for example.

A lot of new players come to try out PVP and leave because they do not like playing against stealth classes. It’s compounded by the large number of pets on screen and mesmer clones. Stealth lets you get away with too much right now.

I don’t think the answer is to tell them to “learn to play” because it’s not a matter of them not being able to or wanting better their PVP skills. It’s simply that they feel stealth is just not fun to play against, even if they learned how to play against it.

Balance makes sPvP unfun :(

in PvP

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

I think the stealth mechanic needs to be minimized in PVP and devs need to find other ways to compensate those classes (thieves and mesmers).

Even if a stealth class is balanced with other classes, the high frequency of stealth abilities detracts from fun in PVP. I mean if it was a long CD stealth like 3 sec per 60sec then that is one thing, but when people are stealthing every 9 seconds it really makes for a annoying PVP experience.

It may be challenging to play against, but not very fun. I am not referring it to being OP, I am just saying stealth is not a fun mechanic in itself.

Implementing this would be great. Like allow the mouse cursor to HIGHLIGHT the in game text, and then I can press the 3rd party program’s hotkey to read alout.

Or instead of highlighting, just have a button by the text box to copy text to clipboard. Then the saavy user can do sorts of things with it.

Hilarious moments during the event?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

After the event was over, somebody was dead in the lava but asking for a res. Some charr decided to jump in, but died in the process. However, he downstated close enough to the edge that I could barely rez him. He couldn’t jump back up cuz the edge was too high, but I just barely rezed him again.

Now he is flailing about trying to find a low enough edge. A few more people come to see what’s happening. Now the dying charr gets fast rezzed by a bunch of people everytime he fails to jump back up. Finally after a few tries he actually climbs out.

Also when the giant crab rolled over a bunch of people, we would say: RICK-ROLLED!!

Absolutely. Exciting colors schemes are a must. Exciting locations as well.

Also the indoor temple cap point was done well. The camera didn’t have problems on the bottom floor. However, the second floor scaffolding should be removed because range can camp up there, and if a melee gets up to fight them, the camera becomes very uncomfortable.

Don’t add little things that may obstruct players or have you easily get stuck. By this I mean unecessary on the floor that you need to jump over or turn to circumvent. It’s just annoying.

For example, the starting cage of Legacy, some times you run a bit to the side of the teleport door, but get caught by the two side panels. Then you need to back up, turn, and run toward the door again.

I love how in Temple of Storm, characters start out facing the teleporter and there are no obstructions in the way. You can just hit auto-run and you will port down to the map.

Another thing is Temple appears very crisp visually. The snow effect was done just right without obscructing vision. There was no fog either, unlike in Forest. The thing with fog: it makes things look blurry (especially with post-processing turned on), which then makes PVP Stream videos harder to watch.

I think if you guys are gonna focus on conquest mode, then you def need to keep pushing out great maps both visually and gameplay. I think maybe we can take conquest to a new creative level with future maps.

Argh the older maps are really visually bland IMO because of their rather bleak, depressing color schemes especially seen in Forest and Legend. I think the artists could go back in and repaint certain areas to give them more of a happy visual “pop.”

Temple of the Storm feels much “happier” than the other maps.

Many popular MOBA maps have a “happy” feel to them, which I think adds alot to enjoyability for both player and viewer. After all, we play games to feel good.

TLDR: No more depressing color schemes!

Casual PVPer's: Custom servers features?

in PvP

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

I understand custom servers will benefit 3rd party tournaments and some high end teams. But how can the more casual player benefit? Can we use this thread to generate some ideas?

If it’s like 5 bucks a month to rent a hotjoin server then that’d be cool.

1. Allow Custom hotjoin servers that player can rent and open to the public. Then Joe PVPer can make a server named “JOE’S CUSTOM HOTJOIN: NO THIEVES OR MESMERS,” where Joe can admin /kick them.

2. Player can rent and set up a server that only accepts certain ranks. “Jamie’s custom PVP Rank 30+ Only”

3. User-created maps and custom servers

With the coming of custom servers, I am thinking what if users could use their custom made maps? Like I could rent a hotjoin server for 5 bucks/month and have it play a custom user made map?

So yeah give tools for user to compile their own maps too.

4. Can allow for 6v6, 7v7

PROS:

-Amazingly refreshing feel to it. Crisp sharpness that is lacking in other maps. It’s the white textures. It’s the lack of fog (unlike in forest of niff). Character models stand out from the ground texture. This makes it easy for esports audience to watch! Future maps should avoid complex, detailed ground textures that camoflauge characters

-Very good color scheme. Warm orange lights, blue shadows, very nice. The other maps are too brown/green/gray = ugly.

-Water is used very well here. You can do water combat, but it is not a hold point so you are not forced to. Water combat sucks for SPVP anyway.

-Very smooth performance on my older computer, unlike other maps (esp. khylo)

CONS:

-At the bottom level, to get out of the water, you must jump on a little box, and then jump again onto the bridge. Better to just have a beach/ramp to smoothly walk out of the water. PLEASE do not add jumping puzzles to SPVP.

-When introducing a new map, have it occur more frequently in the rotation, so we can play it more and give faster feedback.

-Don’t have high points that range can sit on and fire away at melee players who can’t do anything. Almost feels like an exploit.

Are you actually doing that? Are you actually going back to zones and re-experiencing the events and the world? Or is this just an ideal that you wish you could do, but never actually could get yourself to do?

Maybe this is why Anet is being flexible now with their original philosophy, because they see that despite their own ideals of having players go out into the world and just “having fun” people simply don’t do that anymore.

Jealous of the PVE Royal Treatment

Look at the work they put into the PVE lost shores event. Look at how quickly they react to fixing bugs. If SPVP got 1/4 of the attention PVE gets, I’d be a happy dude.

Come on man, these PVE players will just go from game to game and will abandon GW2 at the sight of a new MMO. But we PVP players are here to stay (if we were given better attention). Look at good PVP games like Counter-strike, Warcraft 3, etc. They are still going strong.

If Anet was smarter, they would invest much more in their SPVP loyal customer-base. Someone needs to /gloveslap management and tell them to allocate more programmers to SPVP.

In a perfect GW2, there is no stealth and no clones, and very little player NPC pets. But in reality all we get is this mess.

Reason custom servers are the best next step

in PvP

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

Perhaps not best for the casual player, but for the organized tPVPer, custom arenas allow them to organize their own matches and tournies. Otherwise they get stuck with paid tournies which have long queues and don’t allow them to choose which teams to face. Plus custom servers would give more power to the players, which buys Anet more time to implement more PVP features like ladder system.

Some argue that Anet is doing things backwards because you must build up the casuals first, then let casuals turn into hardcores, and then cater to the hardcores. But this game already has a groups of hardcores (i.e. Team Paradigm or Almost Famous) who are really dying for custom servers so they can make their own tournies and skirmishes. Not to mention there are shoutcasters who have dedicated themselves already to this game. Just look at the Youtube videos of beta tpvp events with shoutcasts and esport-hopefuls.

However I’m sure the patience of this pre-existing hardcore ESPORTS group is wearing thin more and more by the day.

Come on, where are the custom matches?

in PvP

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

I know people are frustrated and like to rant, but the answer is pretty obvious already.

Right now they just don’t have enough programmers (not designers) being allocated to SPVP to satisfy ALL your demands. Obvious custom matches have buggy and still being worked on by programmers. The designers are not dumb, as some would call them. It’s just that they don’t have the programming power under them to push out major patches that fix all issues in one month.

For the people frustrated, blame the PR/marketting department for letting you down. Or blame the management for not hiring more programmers in SPVP.

It’s just going to take more time…given the hype with ESPORTS, etc, they certainly made a mistake and it is backfiring on the forums. Don’t make hype you can’t keep.
But that is NOT the designer/developer’s fault. That the fault of the marketing PR department. Blame the publishers or something, but not the designers.

But still, keep pressuring them and complaining because I’d rather see that than an empty forum where everyone has abandoned the game.

You have to think long term now. How is the game going to be 3 months from now? 6 months? I believe it is going to be heading in a good direction because the changes these patches DO address are going in the right direction. But is it going to happen “overnight?” No way.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The reason ppl complain against gear treadmill is because the difficulty of getting said gear (think low drop rate raids) and repetitive content. As long as the journey toward gear progression is fun and engaging, I welcome gear progression. After all, the whole point of playing a game (or even living real life) is to achieve goals, long as said goals are engaging to reach.

Our minds are hard-wired this way, we seek fun to attain goals. Fun gear progression =/= gear treadmill. I hope Anet implements this well.
