Guys instead of saying “/signed” just upvote the post. You’re “signed” is just going to get deleted and it takes up space people have to scroll through.
From the blog post. Read this part closely:
“We have always worked hard to create a sense of satisfying progression rather than gear grind and this new item progression initiative is no exception. By adding challenging new combat mechanics to end-game content and ways to mitigate those mechanics through gear progression for high-end players, we can add personal progression without making the game feel like an endless treadmill of gear that is just out of your reach.
People feel that the bolded statements are contradictory.
(edited by gwawer.9805)
I scratch my head wondering: They must have seen this backlash coming there is just no way they are that naive. But if they did, why didn’t they communicate more to prevent it? Was it because they wanted the attention?
Although I’m a SPVPer, it’s Quite exciting to see gamers so passionate about their game that they would do this. Only true GW2 fans!
But I think this patch you can do all the content without the new gear. It is only possible future content that you are worried about yes? The is key is that the content is good. If the content is good, so what if there is gear progression with it?
The only bad thing is gear progression + boring content, which is aka a “gear grind”
I hope Anet finds a way to make the best for their most dedicated crowd, but also not alienate new players
(edited by gwawer.9805)
Gear grind is a bad idea because of the grinding part implying the content needed to get the gear is boring and repetitive. But if Anet introduces content that is innovative and has replayability, then I don’t see the problem of adding gear progression along with that content.
People who want fun content gets it. People who want gear progression get it. Everybodys happy.
1. she also says the infusion is only for ascended FOR NOW…they may allow infusion on exotics in the future.
2. she says ascended gear will roll out with future patches. no mention of additional tiers. ascended may be the only and last tier they add.
3. after seeing this backlash on forums, there is no way they aren’t going to rethink their plans
i just hope PVPer’s don’t get forced into doing PVE.
(edited by gwawer.9805)
Agreed. Hope they add in some good looking ninja-like costumes or Metal-gear-solid power suits. Look at the WoW rogue armor sets, no trenchcoats there. Way too many trench coats now.
If instead of +dmg, would be nice to be shortened cooldown (i kno already a trait for 2sec).
Maybe we can get 6sec CD now with burst abilities
OR
Shortened CC durations (ie less frozen/cripple time)
(edited by gwawer.9805)
I’d take mobility over high damage anyday. I’d rather have a smooth fight movement-wise than be kited around until my head hurts, while my only chance of winning is getting off some high burst crit (frenzy HB…). That gets old fast.
2h Shield like Captain America. Yes please.
You don’t want a knock-back on bull’s rush. You want your opponent pinned in one spot as a melee. That’s why I hate Kick. Keep the stun.
Too many stand-still abilities (HB, sword burst, hammer stuff, etc).
Move the 3rd tier trait to reduce physical utility CD to 2nd tier.
And Moa the mesmer?
I agree, a 2H shield would be amazing. Captain America style.
auto attack: Bash, Mash, Stagger (cripple for 2sec)
2 – Shield Throw: throw your shield like a frisbee, slicing and bleeding emenies
3 – Shield Launch: Uppercut and launch foe in to air
Burst – ???
But do we have to have MELEE abilities be stand-still? Argh.
It’s like they promoted the game as innovatively casting on the move, but now it’s melee can’t move lol.
Just plain awkward to use IMO. I’d rather see the said abilities toned down in damage but with ability to be used while moving. HB, 1h swrd burst, hammer cripple.
I know, strategic element, L2P, adapt, etc. That’s not my point. I just think they aren’t fun to use.
Changing the mace 5 ability last patch was awesome.
Ah yes, swapping 1h sword burst with sword 4 would make 1h sword main hand so much more fun.
Switch HB with Arcing Slice that would be so amazing. I would be playing greatsword all the time.
I hate the HB stand in one place mechanic it is so awkward but I feel kittened if I don’t use it. A swapping with arcing slice would mean I can trait for adrenaline and not have to use HB so much.
How about this:
1. As you level up in PVP, you earn tokens that can convert PVE gear to be useable in PVP. (aesthetics only). But you must have already earned the PVE gear thro PVE.
2. You can also earn tokens to allow PVP items to be worn outside of Mists.
I’d rather not have these be glory/rank rewards though because that just encourages hotjoin grinding. These should be tourny rewards.
Oh and rank 100 should be T-bagger
(edited by gwawer.9805)
Signet of Rage (Elite) interferes with certain abilities.
Example: I press 4 and then 0 very quickly within half a second. Despite pressing 4 first, signet of rage is activated and also INTERRUPTS horn 4 ability putting it on a interrupt cooldown. It also interrupts sword 3.
(edited by gwawer.9805)
I can’t find the previous post with this suggestion. But here are some ability ideas:
1. Can’t equip two shields, only main or off.
2. Shield launch – uppercut your enemies knocking them back
Shield throw – Throw your shield like a frisbee, slicing enemies in your path and bleeding them
3. Shield autoattack: Bash, > Mash, > Stagger (cripples for 2 sec)
Was just reading the Oct blog post again, this quote struck me:
Guild Wars 2 competitive PvP is taking its first steps, teams are starting to organize, and some key features are about to start showing up. But are we done working on it?
Hell no.
The way we see it, Guild Wars 2 sPvP may be shipped, but it’s far from finished.
END QUOTE
So admittedly GW2 is not ready yet for esports, we all know that. Core features are missing. It’s good to see the dev’s admit that.
My speculation is publisher pressured Arenanet to release GW2 a before MoP. It was a good move on the PVE side. The game got great reviews, but those were for PVE and WvW.
But this backlash on the PVP forums is pretty big as well. Fortunately most of the posts are constructive and great ideas. People post here because they care.
Since some see the Nov 15th patch as “make or break,” I just thought to post this to shed some long term perspective on our current situation with the PVP in this game.
In that case the issue would still be teams spiking/focus firing a single player to down one guy first and take him out of the fight. Without healers to prevent this I can see how it would be a huge annoyance in gw2 pvp without downstate or hopefully in the future a better implementation of it.
Maybe if there was some sort of auto-mitigation that comes in whenever you are attacked by more than one player?
I’m a freaking warrior. I don’t run away, especially not from a nasty little thief. It’s either fight or die trying.
Just frustrating as hell when it seems like I stand such little chance. I even have horn condition -> boon trait. Right now against many of these powerful builds/classes, I make a game out of seeing how well I can fight until they beat me. Makes me rage quit sometimes tho.
and to add salt to the wound, the times i do get them close to down, they just run away. no despite outplaying my opponent, i dont even get the satisfaction of beating
them
“don’t stand in the spot again or move out of caltrops doesn’t work” because he just moves (more like teleports lol) in the opposite direction and force you to run over to him (over caltrops again)…and kites you with his little toy bow.
i got a sword/horn axe/shield, so yes no ranged makes me especially weak against these guys.
(edited by gwawer.9805)
It’s not that downstate has no strategy. Yes there are lots of ways to stomp and prevent it. But the point is the reasons why it detracts from fun. Not everyone’s opinion of course because some find downstate fun.
A game needs to be not only strategic and balanced, but also fun.
There are fun things about downstate like watching someone and going “ohhh is he going to get the stomp? noo interrupted, revived!” and this back and forth can have some excitement.
But many complain about thieves porting around. Mesmers being too powerful, etc sayign they are unbalanced but also not fun to play against (and I wonder, do thieves get fun out of using their little teleport dissappear ability? personally i don’t find using stealth mechanics it very fun.)
Lots of strategy in downstate yes, but unbalanced and contains not-so-fun elements.
I think perhaps we shouldn’t have the ability to do damage in downstate. That way it prevents 1v1 situations where you end up in a downstate rock flinging contest for 15 seconds.
Your comment about the thief bursting down mage to fight warrior in DaoC doesn’t sound very fun to me. If it’s another burst class that makes fights frustrating for everyone else then that’s not the direction to go. Fun for thief, but ruins PVP overall, just like certain builds are atm in gw2.
You should be able to win a 2v1 but not through OMG I PWNED HIM IN 2sec LAWL but rather through excellently timed mitigation and interrupts. That makes an audience say dammmn this dude is amazing he just 2v1’ed those guys. Rather than…wow that thief does so much damage he can own 2 people.
It’s also not fun to watch. Who wants to see some dude standing around doing nothing at a node? Who wants to see a roamer seeing a bunker and ignoring him?
No, I want to watch constant fights. If a player comes across an enemy, that means a 1v1 is always a viable option. Not “oh, a guardian” he’s too tanky or “oh a thief/mesmer” they are too stealthy/bursty and I’d loose anyway so might as well run off somewhere else.
How about this: instead of some 300k grand prize, ArenaNet can organize some monthly tournaments and give out smaller prizes liek NVIDIA gfx cards or 27" monitors? Or simply just like $300 for top spot every month.
Smaller prizes and more frequency of giveaways allows a more steady growth of the pvp scene, rather than accidentally hosting a 300K give-away for an unexpectatedly small player pool. Plus the smaller rewards will entice more casuals to join in on the fun, rather than only the super-24/7-pro hardcore players.
I support gaming peripheral prizes more becaue that would catch the attention of sponsorships and help boost the esports scene.

For some reason I just can’t get into the HB/frenzy combo I never play that build. And the fact that HB forces your character to stand still is such a turn off. Same with sword burst.
I play a balanced sword/horn axe/shield build and yeah those OP build mesmers and thieves are annoying as kitten. Even stealth engineers are lame.
My reactions have really improved over time tho. When I find my self shield blocking a frenzy thief spam 100% of it (not out of luck either) I am pretty proud. But these times are far and few when you have so many of them running around and they do so much damage. and I hope PVP gets better…NOV 15…fingers crossed

Sword 3 Hamstring: Very hard to land in PVP. I suggest making it autoface the enemy target, just like the way eviscerate or axe throw does. Or give it a wider angle.
(edited by gwawer.9805)
Annoyance: Mace 2 and Sword 5 block abilities have me accidentally hitting key twice and I cancel the block. Just remove the cancel effect please. I can hit 1 and Have autoattack cancel and gain adrenaline if I wish. Furthermore this seems like a really awkard strategy to build up adrenaline pre-fight.
Horn: Ability 5 seems to sometimes have less than 1200 range in SPVP. The guy seems well within range, but I see no weakness condition applied.
U know if you uncheck the voice options, you can turn off the announcer voice
and hide the chat box completely as well

WHy does Jon talk about these changes in game on a single server rather than simply post them on the forums?
I’ve been meaning to report this bug but keep forgetting. Happens like every 1out of 4 free tournies….usually i just alt-f4 and quit for like an hour. one time i got this error, but waited like 3 minutes and re-connected and got into the match again.
Wat are other methods to make money from PVP?
I know they talked about the custom finishers like a “moo moo cow finisher” which is great, but maybe we can give them more ideas…
My suggestions for buyable items:
-More custom PVP armor.
-Tokens to trasmute PVE armor into PVP (no stats, just aesthetics)
-Tokens to trasnmute PVP into PVE and wearable outside Mists
-Custom stomp particle effects (like purple, neon, instead of the default yellow)
-Custom weapon dyes
-Custom taunts (don’t t-bag me bro!)
-Team/guild logo finishers

Hahaha, this is going to be a looong week.
You two should arrange another meeting on the 15th, talk things over, and maybe rekindle the relationship.
Death blossom, caltrops, stealth —--> bleeds me to death
Evasion so I can’t even hit him. Teleports around with shortbow or pistol to kite me, all while I’m crippled.
So anyone who can beat this 1v1 bleed thieves wanna share ur strats? And don’t lie…we know noone can beat them.
BTW Stealth mechanics have ruined the pvp in this game.
Since the arenaNet devs are all probably playing on $2000 computers, I wanted say that with a lesser computer there are certain times when frame rates are low (15-20) in pvp maps.
Smooth gameplay is especially important in PVP, so when even though the artists may be really excited to make a beautiful map, it is more important to have steady frame rates in PVP.
To attract many PVP players, the PVP maps must be able to perform smoothly with the average computer.

What I am afraid of is that if dueling was implemented, queue times would increase dramatically because people would just be dueling their friends rather than playing the tournies.
Wait up a second guys. I tihnk we are letting the argumentative side get the best of us:
Instead of clamoring for OMG REMOVE 8V8 for 5v5, why don’t we just have some 8v8, some 5v5 servers? That way people have their options.
No not 5v5 custom servers that you have to pay for, but 5v5 hotjoin along with 8v8. Everybody’s happy.

The key thing is to face MIRROR pug compositions, which many of you have already pointed out.
PUG groups be matched with other mirror PUG groups (ie 3+2 vs 3+2 or 4+1 vs 4+1)
(edited by gwawer.9805)
THe warrior grunts AFTER finishing the shield 4 rush and bull’s rush. Shouldn’t he grunt before/instantly when he begins the ability?
Think about it. And I’m serious.
To eliminate long queue times, we wipe out the current hotjoin system and simply merge the PUG pool into free tourneys.
Now Lets say there are groups of 1, 2 ,3 ,4, and 5 palyers queueing
Teams will be matched accordingly
five solo vs five solo
2 1 1 1 vs mirror
2 2 1 vs mirror
3 1 1 vs mirror
3 2 vs mirror
4 1 vs mirror
and 5v5 of course
You could even drop the 5 solo team que (too hard to communicate with 5 strangers), and only have solo PUGer’s be added to complete the 2, 3, and 4 team queues.
This system + a good rating matchmaking would make everybody happy

How can downstate be improved in PVP? How can we remove the annoying/boring elements of downstate, while still reaping from its benefits?
First it is taking up a large portion of my PVP time that could be spent playing my character not a 4 button mini-game in which I can’t even move.
On the opposite side, having to stomp people is not fun either. Interrupt, OK stomp again. Vanished, ok walk over to stomp again. Come on, I want to play my skill bar in a toe-to-toe battle, not spend time chasing around a downed player.
1. Is it fun for the esport audience to see some dude laying on the ground flining rocks? We have the most skilled player but all we get to see him do is fling rocks at people.
1v1 downstate fights last forever. You down someone with barely any hp left. They throw rocks at you and now you’re down. You fling rocks at each other for 15 seconds.
3. One less area where the dev’s have to worry about balance if it’s the same across all classes. Have more time to focus on balancing the actual game, not a mini-game.
4. Teams/players are using downstate to grief people “strategically.” They don’t stomp you, they just let you sit in a constant low hp in downstate and you must bleed it out. Not a very exciting strategy to watch as an esport.
5. Yes downstate/reviving has strategic decisions to them, but just because something is strategic or even balanced does not mean it’s FUN.
The uber-competitive player will use any strategy to win and not complain about it being fun, as long as it’s “balanced.” However, the majority of playerbase is attracted to a balanced, strategic, and FUN game. The toe-to-toe combat in this game is amazing! But downstate, ugh…
Please let’s discuss how to improve downstate shall we?

OK, a light-hearted post:
1. You all know those giant Norn Frenzy HB Warriors. Looks like they are having a seizure for 2 seconds. Well this one guy bulls rushed me hits his insta-gib combo but forgets to use endure pain. My entire team somehow focus fires him and it ends up looking like he has a giant seizure and drops dead.
2. Elementalist with low hp does rides the lightning but dies instantly the moment at the end of the ability, making it look like he exploded to death.
3. Thief basilik venoms me in mid-air during my eviserate, makign it look like a scene out of the matrix. He even stopped for a moment wondering did that just happen.
4. Noob 100b warrior accidentally moves and cancels his 100b and sits there doing nothing for 2 seconds wondering “huh?”
5. Beating up on a female Silvari and hearing the squeals…
6. In the heat of battle, when you are dead, but a fellow player still tries to rez you for some reason and just keeps trying to slowwwly rez you while he is getting destroyed by the enemy, and then he dies….
7. Seeing a new player wastes his dodge rolls in the beginning of the fight for nothing without even thinking about what he is dodging. It’s like dude, we havent even started and you’ve already used up all ur dodge.
8. In hotjoin, a player trying out bunker build elementalist for the first time after seeing some uber-skilled youtube video. He thinks he is invincible and rides the lightning into a zerg thinking he is going to capture the point, but eveeryone just gibs him in 2 seconds…
(edited by gwawer.9805)
This is my idea. To eliminate long queue times, we wipe out the current hotjoin system and simply merge the PUG pool into free tourneys.
Now Lets say there are groups of 1, 2 ,3 and 4 palyers queueing
Teams will be matched accordingly
five solo vs five solo
2 1 1 1 vs mirror
2 2 1 vs mirror
3 1 1 vs mirror
3 2 vs mirror
4 1 vs mirror
(edited by gwawer.9805)
They should call it “Flubber Dagger”
“Your dagger transforms from metal into flubber and bounces infinitely across foes as their scream in frustration”
I’d rather have them remove downstate and give us higher HP pools.
Who wants to spend half their time throwing rocks at other players and staring at their crotches as their pile up on top of you for stomps and rez?
And removing downstate means one less element to balance.
Lets say there are groups of 1, 2 ,3 and 4 palyers queueing
Teams will be matched accordingly (ignore the underlines, it’s a forum formating glitch):
five solo vs five solo
2 1 1 1 vs mirror
2 2 1 vs mirror
3 1 1 vs mirror
3 2 vs mirror
4 1 vs mirror
To eliminate long queue times, we wipe out the current hotjoin system and and free tourneys simply merge the PUG pool.
(edited by gwawer.9805)
Defender points = bots in spvp?
8v8 too zergy, agreed
merge free tournies and hotjoin somehow, and have a good matchmaking system for pugs vs groups of 2, 3, 4 and 5
maybe change the PUG tournament setup: at the end of each match ask each player if they wish to keep playing, if any pug players select no, then find new player to put on team and continue the next match
or maybe punish player by making them LOSE glory for abandoning team
(edited by gwawer.9805)
Agreed. Also add an option for “head bob” so that players can have more realism when in 1rst person, while those filming videos can have a steady cam option
