Let’s not forget that half the time our cripple abilities, axe number three and sword number three., Will miss be obstructed or evade. Not to mention if our enemy decides to run through us since there is no body blocking in spvp.

Now add to the fact that many classes have swiftness or a 25% movement increase and warriors are basically fodder to kite until the cows come home.

Let’s not also forgets that without stability they will interrupt you when you do your tornado.

Text to Speech and Voice recognition in GW2

Does anyone want to see the ability to have the computer, using your own third party text to speech program and voice, to be able to read aloud the quest and npc dialogue? Text to speech has come a long way, and today there are some very good text to speech voices that sound very very natural. As for the third party program, maybe it’s better to have it be integrated into GW 2 and all you would need would be a text to speech voice pack.

Like text to speech in GW 2? First of the obvious reasons of some users having easy eye strain. I know there are times I really want to play some PVE, but it is a late at night and my eyes are pretty tired from work. My work has me in front of a computer for 8 hours a day.

Second reason is simply for the increased immersion factor of hearing the text read aloud. Like I said, voice has come a long way and there are some really great sounding voices today.

Okay now on to speech recognition in GW 2. Think of the program dragon naturally speaking or the integrated Microsoft windows speech recognition or Mac speech. Now speech recognition already works with many other programs such as fire fox where you can say the text you see on your screen and your mouse cursor will click that text if it is a hyperlink.

What I think would be best would be the ability to read into your microphone a dialog option and have the game select that option as if you click on it with your mouse.

I think this would be amazing when text to speech and speech recognition are paired together in npc interactive dialogue. Imagine having the NP C’s script read aloud to you as if they are speaking to, and then you use your own voice to reply by reading of one of the response options.

On the spvp side of things, people are still getting their hopes up for the upcoming mid December patch. Mid December patch, just like the mid November patch, has many people saying that it will either make or break the game in regards to spvp. Many say that the November patch went in the right direction but did not have enough changes to warrant them continuing to play. So expect a flood of returning players next Friday, and a lot of further changes perhaps even more changes then the previous patch.

There definitely won’t be matchmaking or custom servers coming because the developers have said those features will have to wait until 2013. However there should be plenty of balance fixes and bug fixes to all the classes. Many ranger bugs are being fixed and also engineer bugs as well. I don’t think there’s going to be a new spvp map, but we may see some changes to the current ones, especially the newest addition temple of the silence storm.

O and the heart of the mists is probably going to be covered with snow if you’re into that sort of thing.

As for world vs. world, there already is a post made by a developer talking about some drastic new implementations into a world of vs. world. On the forum today these got a very positive response, so they should be worthy two return to the game for. I expect the blog post tomorrow about the PVE changes, and the day after words something about world of vs. world. However I am hesitant to say that there will even be a blog post dedicated to spvp. I mean well would there be to say: " hey guys we balance the classes and fixed some bugs we hope you keep playing spvp OK thank you"

Wait how did you deduce that this could be a customizable UI? You mentioned rift customizable interface but it doesn’t remind me of that. What do these yellow and blue gradients mean? What do you guys think? How could this represents any sort of the customizable user interface? To me it seems more like some type of graphical glitch.

However, since we’re on the topic of customizable user interface., I would definitely appreciate ways to hide certain user interface elements such as my party members BOONS and conditions. The a little icons can get quite a long, and in a PVP match when you have all five or all eight members of your team nearby with many conditions stacked on them it can be quite a pain. It’s really clusters your screen and I don’t need to pay attention to their conditions because I don’t play the support role. I admits that there is still some advantage to paying attention to the conditions of my teammates, but I don’t think it outweighs a less cluttered screen.

In addition to being able to hide the condition icons for my teammates, I would like to have the option to hide their health bars as well. On other thing would be too have the option to auto hide the top menu (the one way of the icons for game options PVP trading post, etc.) Much in the same manner that you can auto hide the Microsoft Windows taskbar. Balancing for only the top 10% is just flat out wrong. It is a nail in this game’s coffin if developers ignore complaints and deem them insignificant simply because the top 10% of hardcore players say it’s fine. The top players will always find a way to play no matter what. Even if the game was imbalanced for the top 10%. They would still play.

A look at world of war craft currently. The hardcore arena players are still playing. They’re still devising strategies on how to counter things. They are still devising strategies on how to utilize a underpowered class. But instead is the casual player base that is disappearing from world war craft because the game has never been so imbalanced from the view of a casual player.

If you fix all the casual complaints in the spvp in this game, I can guarantee you that the top 10% of players will still be there playing until there are fat little fingers are sore. And now you have the benefit of also having a large healthy casual player base who are satisfied with the balance in the game. Now this casual player base can serve as the audience for the sport players, and there just like magic is your successful E sport!

Many complaints regarding spvp are made daily on the spvp forums, and many posts dating back two months ago are still valid today. I hope arena nets focuses more energy on spvp. Obviously the PVE is going great since it actually garnished game of the year awards and nominations. But I have seen nothing of the sort for PVP. No, not world PVP, but structured tournament PVP. There is a population of dedicated player base who devote themselves almost solely two playing the spvp.
Once again PVE and to some extent world of vs. world have won game of the year awards, but spvp continues to lack luster. I’m glad that they said they will do a patch in the future that focuses on spvp, but until I see that happening I’m not going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Prior to the games release as PVP was hyped to be so great, but I was shocked to see the lack of features when I stepped into the heart of the mists.

Up until now, the management at arena nets seems to be diverting much more resources to fixing PVE rather than spvp. I hope with the game of the year awards, these managers at arena net and take a breather and realize that their PVE is many times more of a finished product and the spvp. I also hope they realize that the spvp player base, although smaller than the PVE and world vs. world player base, is a highly devoted player base who will continue to be loyal customers if they’re needs are being met.

In the years to come, PVE contents is going to get old and people will abandon GW 2 because they feel like they have already finished to the game and there isn’t much else to do. They will abandon GW 2 for the newer PVE game with content they want to experience.

But on the other hand GW 2 will still have its spvp players because the spirit of competition and the competitive community will only solidify and strengthen over the years. This can only occur if arena net focuses more attention to making Spvp better and better.

Wintersday Jumping Puzzle Thread

I think some giant norn is going to annoy the kitten out of you guys on that giant jumping puzzle with tiny little Airborne rocks. It was worse enough during the clock tower jumping puzzle, but now this one looks even worse. Didn’t the jumping puzzle designer state after the Halloween event that he regretted making the clock tower puzzles also difficult? But judging by the screenshots this one looks even worse.

I don’t mind a difficult challenge, I think people are going to enjoy this jumping puzzle after having had so much experience playing the game until up to now. I’m also looking forward to reading the form posts complaining about the difficulty of the jumping consul being compounded by giant character models purposely distracting other players. I hope they have some simple puzzles that are not as difficult for those players who are just starting out and cannot handle too difficult of a challenge.

Another idea would be too have a infinite jumping puzzle or A evolving jumping puzzle that gets more difficult each time you complete it.

Why is it always in Lion's Arch?

in Wintersday

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

You know, I’ve wondered the same thing. Why not rotate the events main location along the main cities and do this for each holiday events.

Like for example, the Halloween event could be featured in the city of the asura, while the winter events could be in divinity reach. I think one of the reasons they are located in Lions arc is because the play’s simply as the most portals and is too convenient compared to the other cities. Not to mention that the fractal dungeon is also there.

If they made the other cities as convenient, then it would definitely help people to migrate to those cities. I hate that when I go to Lions arch, I am always put in overflow. I would rather mingle with the folks on my own server. So if they spread out of the server population among the city’s such as having some people in divinity reach while others in another city, then there would not be overflows.

I really dislike overflows. Don’t get me wrong, I would not want to be on a barren landscape, but that’s another issue that can be addressed with under flows. Anyway, yes the main cities other then lines arc could definitely use some love and attractions, and arena nets has stated that they are aware of this issue. The fact that winter’s day events do occur in the main cities, although the main event occurs in Lions arc, is still a good start.

In the future I hope to see large groups of people hanging out in the main cities because they prefer the look and feel of that city. Right now people are forced into Lions arc for the sake of convenience in terms of portals and organizing dungeon groups. Though world of war craft system where the trades channel is available to all main cities is it good solution. Unfortunately, even in that game people still flock to one main city, rather than spread out among all the cities. However, the situation in world war craft is still better than the current one in GW 2 because in world war craft if you go to dalaran., You’ll still see a nice helping of people, although nowhere nearly as close to the main city like storm wind. But at least if a person chooses to go to a city other than storm wind, there was still have access to the trade channel.

Secondly, how would it hurt you or anyone else if the developers listen to me and made the change? It would only make the ability more responsive, it would not affect any of your game play. And who knows maybe someday if you start to see the importance of what I’m asking for, you will thank me for taking the initiative to ask the developers to implement this change.

We need a 2nd Unofficial RP Server

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

gwawer.9805

On the other hand I think certain players are elitists when it comes to RP on tarnished coast. It’s like a abide by some unofficial rules of rp, if there is such a thing, and turn their nose at anyone who is simply trying to have some casual fun with rp.

That’s the main reason I transferred off of tarnish coast, after seeing that I really wasn’t missing a much. I tried to rp a few times, but the response I got was along the lines of " why are you here taking up space if you arent serious about rp?" Or " this guy is a RP newb and we don’t need him around here."

For example one time in divinity reach, I was rp as a human telling the Char to go back to their homes because there are too violent. But another RP guy preceded to tell me that he was putting me on ignore. This gave me the impression that rp players take themselves away too seriously. Either that or maybe they are just too shy and are defensive socially.

This type of atmosphere suppresses spontaneous rp with strangers and new players. The only rp that happens happens in guild and party chat and are not inclusive to outsiders. I’m sure the spontaneous RP that I refer to still happens, but it is a rare occasion that I would like to see more of. During my time on tarnished coast, my impression of the happy go lucky rp player who is nice to everyone wkittentered. Instead I met a lot of players who came off as antisocial basement dwellers who sought refuge in a online world.
What you have left is a very stagnant rp community without any new blood to expand upon, because they are intimidated.

Maybe the best thing that could happen is a second rp server with the reputation of being more casual friendly and inclusive of people who are just starting out to RP. On this server there are no elitist rp guild’s who would frown upon you if you don’t use perfect grammar and spelling. On the server the rp players have a more encompassing attitude when it comes to humor.

Dynamic events repeating, breaking immersion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

It’s not immersive when a dynamic event repeats immediately after I complete it. For example, there is the silvari quest npc in the beginning of the game who asks you to get rid of the mosquitoes that are attracted to the bright lights that you previously fixed for her. After I turn in the quest, she thinks me for killing the mosquitoes and rejoices in her victory, but 3 seconds later she starts asking for help again because the event as reset. This is a really big immersion breaker for me.

Now this has been stated before, but no one to brainstorm some ideas that they could do to make these dynamic events more immersive.

First obviously they can increase the reset timer.
But the problem that this creates is that when there are many players in the area, there won’t be enough dynamic events for everyone to do. If you just finished the mosquito event, it sucks for another player who just arrived to have to wait 10 minutes to do the events. The way around this would be to add more events that occur after one another so that if the mosquito events has just ended then the fishing event will have just started. That way every player always has an option to do some event that is active.

Second, they could improve the way dynamic events lead into one another., And add more events that help bridge the reset of the original event.

For example, back to the silvari quest Npc.

If you want to cancel the block, then just hit ur number 1 ability (auto attack) or any other ability you wish to use and it will break the block anyway. As for stomping, just press F and you will auto-matically cancel the block and proceed to stomping.

We need a 2nd Unofficial RP Server

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

No I don’t want to keep trying to get in, instead I want to join a rp server and that isn’t full all the time.Let’s Migrate to a lower population server or start a new second server.

Right now the problem is pretty obvious that tarnish coast is full and people are having too much trouble getting in. Telling them they should wait until 4:00 AM in the morning is unreasonable because even at that time you’re not guaranteed a spot due to the server being always full. In addition, if we keep barely squeezing people in, it’s inevitable that the servers population situation will get worse and worse until no one can get in any more.

I think certain guilds on tarnish coast’s should consider moving to a new server and declare that server a alternative rp server to kick start the creation of a second RP server.

I know some people are hesitant to leave tarnish coast, but don’t you want some new blood in the rp scene? There are flocks of rp players for scattered outside of tarnish coast unable to get in, but would jump two A second RP server if one was declared and also organized such that there was a large enough starting population to sustain the growth of rp on that server.
Although I don’t expect everyone to be generous enough to move off of tarnish coast to this second rp server, I do hope that at least a large enough proportion of players migrate in order to successfully kick start this new RP server.

Let’s just take a moment to stop thinking about how great tarnished coast is and how happy we are to be on it, and think about all the great RP players and potential interests who aren’t on tarnish coast. These guys are scattered among the servers, but they could be organized in rallied to a even bigger rp server if we all migrate to A low population server with enough room to accommodate all these new players.

And finally think of this.: If you migrates to a lower population server, that means the proportion of rp players to non RP players will be even higher than that on tarnished coast. Because tarnish coast is filled with many non rp players. This new server could be more of a RP paradise., Where you don’t get strange looks from non RP players or are rudely interrupted during the middle of a RP session.

I agree 100%. Either we make a second server for a second population of rp players. Or that tarnished coast players need to migrate to a low population server so that more people can transfer to play with them.

Tarnish co’s population is being filled with many non RP players. If you look at tarnished coast’s world vs. world ranking, you’ll see that many players transfer to tarnish coast to be on a high ranked world vs. world server.

Wow wow wow wow wow, did some of you guys even read the OP? Or do you just enjoy hearing yourself talk irrelevantly?

The point is that the abilities in this game don’t always activate when you press the corresponding button once. This is especially true in the middle of a fast paced PVP combat when you’re pressing many things in trying to activate many abilities. For example if I Press four and then two when I am using mace shield, I will shield bash, but the mace block doesn’t happen afterwards. I blame the game for not being responsive enough.

This means that I have to press a button more than once to make sure that the ability is activated. This button tapping or spamming if you would call it that, works for a block abilities like shield block, but not for mace block because if I Press the button more than once I risk canceling the block.

Guys please do the OP a favor and reread that until you understand. Otherwise you risk posting a response that is completely irrelevant.

While you’re at it, what about giving us leg warmers, headbands, wristbands, pen protectors, and ties?

Let’s look at another game called world of war craft that has Capes. I can tell you the many form posts I’ve seen for that game in which players complain about the clipping issues they have with they’re Capes and weapons. Of course you can hide Capes, but when you have the option to show them people only care about being able to show them without clipping. They won’t take no for an answer and will not have anything less than perfect Capes.

If clipping really is an issue, then I would suggest to arena net not to implement Capes because they are opening a surprise box full of ranting players. Even worse than now.

Wait, does that mean every time they have a promo, they have to give existing customers the promo items as well? Why is it that in this game the player base feels so entitled to getting things from arena net?

Personally I think the developers and arena nets representatives are being way too nice in the way they deal with us customers. They are spoiling us, and divide they we’re turning into these greedy entitled little brats.

I’m glad in the recent posts made by Gail that her tone shifted towards a much more frank and in your face attitude. I mean if the player demands are so unreasonable in arena nets should have no hesitation to let the player base know how unreasonable they are being.

I think this being a free to play game really makes it a valuable purchase and at the same time you have to realize that if they gave all these items away then people would have less incentive to buy things from the gem store. Besides game purchases the gem store is the only other source of profit.

awkward attack animation while running

Strange looking swing animations when attacking and running at the same time. For example make a human male, give him a one handed sword, and then proceeds to run forward, while auto attacking. You’ll notice that the upper torso does a turn that seems detached from the running legs.

I realize now the reason for this problem is that arena net never made a separate weapon swing animation for the upper body when the character is moving. The only animation available is the one that was made for a non moving character. As a result when the character is moving AKA running or strafing, the upper body animation for attacks appear extremely awkward.

If you look at the loading screen art for R a T a SUM (sorry for the weird format I’m using windows speech recognition), you’ll see that the painted asura have much more fat necks that seem more physiologically proportionate with their head sizes. This gives them a very nice hardy meaty warm feel to their personalities which is lacking in their current state.

The in game asura look like these hyper little rat freaks and their necks are going to snap in half. They just make me go, ewww, I would never want to play that race and I don’t understand why anyone would choose to play one in their current appearance.
Arena net, if you make this change I guarantee will create an asura.

I do understand if the arena nets art team believe that making them have really narrow necks could make them have a comical appearance with the very large heads and funny had bobble animation during their jump. However, just because the load is distinctive and exaggerated doesn’t mean it is attractive.

TLDR: please fatten up the asura necks or give us an option to select much much fatter necks in the character creation screen.

Suggestion 100 blades, etc: no more self root

in Warrior

Posted by: gwawer.9805

gwawer.9805

My main gripe is actually not with the hundred blades self root, but the self root abilities with hammer. The hammer is already a slow weapon and often awkward to use when your opponent has swiftness.

Personally I really dislike the self root abilities. On a melee character, the last thing I want is an ability that forces me to stand still for 3 seconds. This not only applies to 100 blades of course, but also things like flurry and hammer 3.

I would gladly trade off less damage for the ability to move while channeling or casting these abilities. As for the hammer 3 ability, I would gladly trade for a narrower arc that hits and cripples less targets if I didn’t have to stop momentarily to cast it.

I can understand the developer wanting to bring an element of strategy to the game by having these self root abilities, and they do bring a sense of risk and reward. But to me it’s just not a fun mechanic, because it makes the otherwise smooth and fast combat uncomfortably awkward.

I wish warriors could do well with say a one handed sword plus war horn and axe shield build. Furthermore, I wish frenzy wasn’t such a necessity to bring into the game.

I know arena net stated in their PVP discussion that they would like to see each class have more builds available to them, and right now I think the warrior is a great example of a class that really needs to be diversified

Time magazine lists Guild Wars 2 as #1 best video game of 2012

Since I am a sole PVP player and I haven’t touched any of the PVE contents., I had to turn an eyebrow when I read this article on the time magazine website.

What these guys think? All the reviews, if we go back in time to August and September, touched on the PVE side and praised its innovation. And now that the game of the year awards are rolling by, GW 2 is popping up quite frequently. But I can’t help but think, oh spvp if only you could be the game of the year.

I don’t want to call these reviewers care bears or dragon slayers, but if guild wars two wins these accolades then it should be for the entire Game. Of course if it was in fact for the entire game, and Guildwars two would be rated as much a lower contender because of the lack of spvp qualities and features.

What worries me is that the game is seen by the mainstream as PVE game in the spvp gets brushed aside. As a consequence what if the higher up’s and corporate bosses see this trend and as a result invests further into the games PVE but not the games spvp.

On the official Guildwars two website the spvp section states that spvp is a core pillar of the game. I believe this when trying to decide whether to purchase the game, but now it has taught me a hard lesson not to trust PR marketing spin doctors.

Any spvp players who refuse frenzy and HB?

in Warrior

First, I don’t use frenzy because I don’t like to contribute further to a problem. The problem is the extreme bursts damage in this game that certain builds allow while being exacerbated by frenzy. I would rather see frenzy taken out of this game. Or at least given a major nerf.

I also dislike abilities that don’t have a physicality to them. By that I mean I enjoyed abilities such as throw bolas or bulls rush. Abilities like a frenzy or activating some signet give me a sense of disconnection with my character. The only ones I use are the elite signet and balanced stance because I find in too useful

Second, I don’t use hundred blades because I hate the abilities that root the cast are in place. There’s just so awkward to use and ruin the pace of combat for me.

But if I don’t spec into these two abilities nobody wants me for tournaments. They always ask if I am frenzy 100 blades because they want of glass cannon for really high dps thief or warrior.

PVE players don’t get your pennies in a bunch, because if they change frenzy it would only be on the PVP side. The skill would be unchanged in PVE.

I think the main problem with frenzy occurs when you’re fighting somebody and then a third person comes in, activates frenzy, and proceeds to destroy you in 3 seconds or less. Because you don’t have that third person targeted, you can’t see his frenzy buff.

Yes it’s easier to tell when it’s a giant norn with a huge great sword, but when it’s a tiny asura with little daggers and it’s a bit tricky. Perhaps frenzy should give off some type of visual cue like a lightning flash.

All this is exacerbated by the many spell effects that are already happening because you are in the middle of a fight. O and of course there are the myriad of NPC pets cluttering the screen

In addition PVP players hang out in heart of the mists anyway. Who cares what a bunch of PVE players in Lions arc think anyway it’s the PVP players that you are trying to impress.

I mean yeah there would still be some merit to showing off the PVP gear to mainly PVE players, but I don’t think the developers thought it was enough of a merit to justify allowing PVP gear outside of the heart of the mists.

In addition if PVP gear was allowed outside of the mists, then the next thing we would hear about would be PVE players wanting to wear their gear in the heart of the mists.

Mesmer Blurred Frenzy needs fix?

It’s the auto facing part of blurred frenzy that I’m most concerned about. It’s like giving a auto target skill in a first person shooter. It’s one thing to have the skill auto face the target when initially cast, but to have it auto rotate even during the middle of the channel seems overkill.

Pistol whip, hundred blades, and flurry do not auto face the target. That means you can circle strafe around your opponent or simply run through your opponent to avoid the damage.

Compared to the other channeled melee abilities (p. whip,

hblades, etc) Blurred Frenzy is the only one that AUTO-FACES in

the targets direction. That means even if I try to move behind

the mesmer he just auto-matically turns around and continues to

hit me.

It will auto-face even during the middle of the channel.

Why does Blurred Frenzy have this auto-facing, while HB and PW

doesn’t?

@the guy posting the skill descriptions…LoL i dont think the point is to play semantics here. The point is that certain abilities and builds are too powerful and make the game unbalanced or just simply unfun for opponents.

by your logic i could make a move that does 1 million damage, and as long as the tool-tip correctly says “does 1 mil damage” then the skill is working as intended /thread

Good point ..Just another reason why some builds and abilities are broken. My 4 friends all quit despite being huge PVP fans because they complained about the same thing as you, and many others on the forums. It makes me feel dumb for recommending the game to them because one of them tell me they want their 60 bucks back…hopefully december patch will be good.

Possible fix for Loading Bug

I have binded my Score hotkey to something really obscure (ctrl alt shift i) so that I stop looking at it during a match. It seems like the more you look at it the more often the bug happens. It’s not just looking at it when you are dead, but any time during match even when you are alive.

I just played a bunch of games without looking at it and no bug happened. Then there was a match where I kept checking on score, and I DC’ed TWICE.

Maybe coincidence, but try it and just maybe…

I would like to see bodyblocking. If they can give you the option to turn it on, they should be able to make everyone turn it on automatically shouldnt they? Could be an easy fix. Why keep it off?

I’m not asking for strategy on how to win. I’m saying these elements just aren’t very FUN to play, relative to pure PVP.

Is it too major of a factor in a PVP game? I don’t want play with some 1-ability treb toy I would rather be playing my character fighting other players. Does it force players to play an element they’d rather not?

It’s one thing to attack NPC’s (lord on legacy) that are a major factor, which I think is too much points given, but to pilot a 4-button thingy is just….i mean come on man…

i’m so glad Temple doesn’t resort to these gimmicks.

nerf treb, lower points on lord.

SPVPer’s please upvote my question! Just do a browser find “The SPVP players have felt” to find it faster.

The SPVP players have felt let down since the beginning of the game’s launch. The have little features for SPVP and lack many essential elements that are needed to foster a great SPVP community, let alone to grow into esports. There is also the horrendous endless loading bug.

Jon P. and Chap read the forums and intend to implement more features, but work is progressing so slowly. It seems there is much more programmers dedicated to PVE rather than SPVP. Things feel like they are moving at a snails pace and many dedicated, loyal PVPer’s grow impatient. There are so many great suggestions in the SPVP forums.

Does Anet plan to move more workers to the SPVP side? Many SPVPer’s are leaving because they are seeing that GW2 is primarily concerned with PVE and WvW, not SPVP. Are you guys aware of the great opportunity you have because the PVP in this game is unique and there is a big demand for it, as long as we actually see more SPVP dedication from Anet.
