Also, Pisol-Shield is weaker for Decap Engi than Rifle: Overcharged Shot+Net Shot almost guarantees a decap alone.
flesh wurm can work as an escape if well placed.
This. Flesh Wurm never leaves my utility bar, I use it for both my condition & power build. It is the Necro’s best stunbreak/“OS” button in my opinion. Keep in mind, my view is entirely from a tPvP perspective. There are various “vanish” spots (always seems to be one or more on mid points) that will teleport you through the ground (mid Kyhlo) or up to unreachable spots (mid temple) making you untouchable unless your opponent/s really goes out of their way.
Knowing where you can place Flesh Wurm to get the teleport is key, as well depending on where you are positioned can affect it.
Well, that’s interesting. But at the moment I am having a lot of fun with Signet of Spite, Spectral Wall and Corrupt Boon as utilities. Chainfearing Guardians for 8 seconds is something incredibly kewl xD
tbh, anet need to stop giving warriors passive sustain and give them more active sustain and utilities
the concept of warriors being able to “facetank” and no much technic involved is just bad design.
the problem is not these active skills(stances), it’s warriors passive sustain. ele has 4 second complete invulnerbility with only 50 CD(which warrior need 3 utilities to achieve) and can cast other spells during it, no one has problem with it.
Wait, you’re really comparing Ele to Warrior?
There is literally no counterplay.
Knockbacks = CC-effect
Stability = immune to CC-effectsYou literally dont know what literally means.
Throw Mine says hi.
Heh, so you basically have Obsidian Flash and nothing else if you get focused.
Also, how do you remove conditions? It takes one condi spike from a necro and you’re dead meat.
Should just make a map that’s one empty rectangle with 1000 players on each side who crash into each other over and over again. Make bags drop legendaries.
Epic scale fights we always wanted.
With no siege.
aww, the lewtbags!
A lot of players complain about BP > HS combo, so why don’t they L2P and stop complaining?
Fixed it for you.
If someone complains about something, it does not mean that it is broken.
It’s one of the most buggy skills in the game.
Needed bump, this trait really needs some attention.
Shatter is the funniest way to play mesmer. It’s viable, and I’d say that once you master the technique, you will become a really good player. Until then, be prepared to rage at thieves, PU mesmers and Engis.
The best fights you can have as a Shatter mesmer are against Necros, Warriors and Guardians IMHO.
I still see decay engis and mm necros as worse abominations than HS, triple stance Warriors (and I’m playing Condi necro these days).
Still, I must admit that people saying “eh, bring poison” or “they are weak to high bursts” really don’t know what it means to fight a warrior with any other class.
Want to carry a team? Bring a MM necro.
Quick and simple – stealth stacking via spamming the same ability over and over again needs to be toned down.
Says who?
BHB’s, that’s who.
Hammer that way→

I don’t get why the “Petrify Block” of the grawls in EotM bypasses stability and is not breakable, while our Basilisk Venom is basically a normal stun.
And yes, I would take DV over BV anytime.
Even if it’s for, say, 5k Badges I would still welcome this thing.
Honestly, when I get “tormented” I try to cleanse that condition ASAP, especially if I have 3+ stacks of it. However, I must admit that in SOME fights (especially on my Mesmer) I can afford to stand still for a few seconds to mitigate some of its damage.
Lol, we talking about Impale? #yolo
Another thing: engis completely lack ranged weapons.
Wat.
Please show me an engineer melee weapon that is not part of a kit, because I obviously missed out on something.
I apologize – I used the wrong words.
What I wanted to say is that engis apply most of their condi pressure in melee-short range (Grenades, Bombs, Pry Bar). If you fight them while keeping a 600-700 distance you won’t have any problems with them unless you get pulled (which should be avoided) or unless they use the iWin Supply Crate.
I play Engi too, and I know the weaknesses of this class. Fighting against a good thief who kites with Shortbow is extremely difficult for me.
Of course this is different in PvP, since you have to stay inside that circle to give a meaning to your fight, but I don’t think we’re talking about that here?
Why does EVERYONE want Deathmatch as a Game type??
Deathmatch adds NOTHING worthwhile to PvP that isn’t already in the Domination Game type.
Seriously, people already play the game like it’s TDM in Hotjoins anyway so what’s the kittening point?
Deathmatch hardly even relies on team play at all. All you do is kill or die. There’s no other objectives.
Because it’s simpler to watch.
Because your main role will be to kill people, rather than stall with bunkers.
Because you will not see abominations like decap engi.
Because in Domination, if you take more than 30-40s to kill somebody who controls a node you have “lost”, even if you kill him at the end.
Because in an actual 5v5, AI reliant builds would be less powerful than what they are now.Should I continue?
Condition builds don’t work as effective, burst comps far more effective.
BRINGS A DIFFERENT META…..
Meh, I still think that in a 5v5 (and maybe up to 8v8 but I’m unsure of this) condition classes would still be nice (especially Engi and Necro).
But surely, things like Spirit Ranger, Condi Warrior, PU Mesmer (even if they are not effective in high ranked matches they are still a PITA to fight) would be completely unviable.
If Moa countered Rangers’ Spirit, I would be really happy.
So far, I am still happy because the “braindead-ness” of MM necro is un matched by anything. No hambow, no decap engi, no Spirit Ranger will ever reach the rate of “hey let me drink a coffee while you die” which MM Necros have.
If it is a bug, it will be fixed eventually. If it is not a bug, then it won’t.
Also, if the MM is any good, he should keep track of the CD of the skill so that he will be faster to react the next time the Mesmer uses it. I have avoided a lot of Moa Morphs after I got Moaed once (not as a MM necro though, since I will never play such a spec).
Since every Meteor Shower pops 20-30 meteors, having a circle for each meteor would cause a lot of unneeded stress to the servers.
And if you decided to only place one big, red circle for the whole area covered by the spell, well, just better to remove the skill completely as it won’t work against any group with half a decent brain.

What a sight for sore eyes. Positiv attitude and praise for the necro on this forum?
That’s like seeing a unicorn! Don’t scare him away, TheDevice :P
To be honest, I have always liked necros. My “main” roaming classes are Mesmer (not PU) and Thief (I use Ele and Guard for Raids, Ranger for some PvP and Engi I used it mostly because I wanted to learn something about how to counter it). T
That said, dueling Necros as a thief or Mesmer has always revealed to be extremely fun, because no matter what, both sides had the means to kill the opponent. It’s not something like “Condi Engi vs Necro”, in which one side is completely screwed.
That’s why fighting them has always been enjoyable: it was not an easy win, and those few necros who were bold enough to roam in WvW were really good.
I have always praised this class, but I have been reluctant to level one because I was afraid (and, mind me, I still am) that I would not use it so much in WvW roaming, since I have better classes for doing so and I am not really a fan of getting ganked.
Still, even if I will most likely only use it in PvP, I am having a lot of fun for now. I have only played it for 6 hours, but they were kitten good!
I have more trouble with engis – anyone have tips on how to beat engis in WvW?
Another thing: engis completely lack ranged weapons. So kiting them with your SBow can be really effective . Just be sure to take it out when you have Shadow Refuge ready, so that you can use it to wait the needed time to swap weapons again.
I’m not sure which game you are playing, but Engineers have a lot of ranged attacks. It largely depends on spec though, as to how effective they are.
Pistol 1, Pistol 2, Pistol 3… then what else? If you get hit by Grenades while kiting you are doing something wrong.
Elixir Gun? You can almost avoid its attacks by strafing.
Well enjoy it for what its worth i guess XD
You’ll also have to get used to bugs that won’t get fixed.
Chain fearing will be your only friend unless you go mm
You’ll eventually get annoyed at other people using their “oh crap!” buttons and then you can’t.
You can only spam your staff from now on XD but try not to get used to that
You cant siphon as we ll as your guard just in case you were wondering
Get used to about 2-3 viable builds.
And have fun! XD
OH! And look forward to future nerfs not fixes. But other than that its great!
It’s just that I love Doom.
I’ve spent a lot of time dueling and roaming with my other classes, so I can easily predict when someone is going to use his heal. However, most times I can’t interrupt it reliably. But with the Necro, it’s always there! Instant cast, no travel time, low cooldown… so lovely <3
1) Warrior
2) Bunker Guardian
3) Engi
4) Necro
5) Thief
6) Ranger (for some odd reason, Spirit Rangers are not “that” common)
7) Mesmer
8) Ele
Of course, anything of the above crumbles if the other team has a Decap Engi. I’ve lost every game that involved a Decap Engi on the enemy team yesterday (6), while I won every other game (15).
Just made a Necro, and man, I love it!
I have tried every class in the game (see sig – I have a Warrior on my NA account but I never play it because it’s boring), and I am surprised that, among all the classes I played, I am finding the Necro to be the funniest of all.
That said, I am mainly playing it in PvP (soloQ, teamQ and Hotjoin), and it’s really a blast! Chainfearing people is so funny. Of course, when they get to me I most likely die, and I am usually am the first to be targeted when I forget about my position and jump inside the fight (I still have to get used to lacking an “oh crap!” button), but when this happens it’s so fast that it’s not even painful to watch :P
Without ICD it would be good.
With ICD it would be useless.
Thing is, most of our guilds now have yet to complete their roster so they are running with less people, while the number of guys that follow the PUG commander have increased a lot.
If they “fix” the Meteor Shower→Tornado combo it would be really nice for WvW.
But actually I’d say that for WvW it would be really good even without said fix. Even if it is only 1s (which will be), it would ensure a Healing Rain and almost a full Meteor Shower… definitely good to have.
Thief works really well with a lot of classes in pair, but the best one I have found so far is a Warrior with a GS: he can reset the fight at ease and has enough survivability to not getting downed if you get caught by surprise. Also, the AoE stun with hammer and the costant immobilizes are sooo nice to have.
Mesmers are good too, because they can survive well in pairs. But I don’t know too much: the pro of the warriors is that it counters the classes the thief has problems with really well. Engineers, for example, are cake if you have a warrior with you.
However, having to choose between Mesmer and Thief, I’d say Mesmer, because it will be really handy when dealing with professions like Hammer Warriors and Zerk Guardians (both are very nasty to take down as a thief if you are fighting outnumbered). Another thief would be good only if you are not fighting these professions. If you are in a borderland with a lot of thieves, I think 2 thieves are better. If you are in a borderland with not so many thieves, take a mesmer with you.
Hows EU roaming?
Gunnar’s Hold, Far Shiverpeaks, Aurora Glade and Gandara have really good Roamers (both solo roamers and small groups of 2-5). Roaming is not dead in EU, but it has become somewhat frustrating as PU mesmers are really common.
I’ve seen good roamers even on Abaddon’s Mouth (with my pleasure I have to say), but that’s a German server.
If you are NA and play during prime time NA, roaming in EU would be really fun for you: late night in Silver League usually means that each server has only one, big zerg hopping from map to map flipping stuff, with scouts here and there. I usually have some really nice skirmishes against those scouts, fighting to the death to capture/defend that camp
Roamng during prime time EU is a pain because you will mostly try to avoid zergs or bigger groups rather than fighting.
Glyphs are most likely the worst set of utilities of the Elementalist, and most likely the worst utilities in the entire game.
Glyph of Lesser elementals can be used for levelling in PvE. Glyph of Renewal can be used in WvW to rez lords.
Glyph of Storms and Glyph of Elemental Power are just plain terrible.
The only Glyph that COULD be slotted is the healing one, as it is safer than Ether Renewal for zerker eles.
Just forget about their existence in pvp.
Thieves’ HP are fine.
Eles need a lot of buffs to be on par with most classes in any pvp envirorment that is not zerg fight with a support role, so I would really like an HP boost.
I have more trouble with engis – anyone have tips on how to beat engis in WvW?
If they are so cheap as to use Supply Crate mid fight, Take out your SBow, AoE the turrets and reset the fight. It is an extremely cheap skill and don’t feel bad if you have to reset the fight because of it.
If they don’t use Supply Crate, just know that their cooldowns are limited. They have some powerful defensive tools, but they still have a cooldown. Also, since they are forced to run Rabid, they will be “quite” squishy: 4-5 backstabs will be enough to kill them. Just play the waiting game and let them blow their CDs while you are in stealth.
It’s a tough fight, even tougher if you are fighting in a narrow spot.
Another thing: engis completely lack ranged weapons. So kiting them with your SBow can be really effective . Just be sure to take it out when you have Shadow Refuge ready, so that you can use it to wait the needed time to swap weapons again.
Good thing there is not a Pow-Pre-Tou amulet. Or a Tou-Vit-Condi Dmg one.
Are you talking about WvW or PvP?
Shadow’s Embrace is a good source of condition removal in WvW, but it’s not viable in PvP (as every other trait in the Shadow Arts traitline).
Pain Response is great, because every 30s you get a cleanse from 3 out of 5 damaging conditions (sadly, no Torment/Confusion cleanse). Sadly, it forces you to go 20 into Acrobatics, which is good only in a Sword setup.
So, your options are quite limited. Hide in Shadows is good, but it has a long CD. Lyssa runes are another option (if you’re facing a necro I suggest using it after he uses Signet of Spite).
That’s pretty much it though.
Just for asking, how many hours does it take to level from 2-80 in Queensdale Champ train?
Or, simpler question, how much time does it take to gain a level through Champ Farming in Queensdale?
That guy played a low dps build. If he had higher dps, he would kill the warrior very easily.
I giggle at these statements almost as much as those that say “bring poison!”
That guy did not check the Endure Pain icon on the Warrior’s Status Bar I guess.
Nor the 40 seconds of stability.
But I saw him bleed, he probably didn’t have Berserker Stance slotted. Bad warrior.
_ that North America is not the Center of the World;
_that there are other servers aside from T1 NA;
_that making one topic every hour because something is odd in that matchup will not solve any “issues” you are facing;
_that if you want to discuss about matchups, you should use the unofficial forums: www.gw2wvw.net
_that, in any case, the difference between winning or losing a matchup is one chest with 2 greens and a few silver.
Thank you for your time.
Thanks
I’m mainly thinking of WvW roaming, since conditions aren’t very good for PvE
What is the standard P/D build and equipment for roaming?
Full dire or carrion. Carrion is a lot squishier bu you do more dmg. Dire is pretty much invincible. Traits go 10/0/30/0/30. Grab perplexity runes with sleight of hand, and scorpion wire
You can also use caltrops instead of scorpion wire or shadow refuge. I just prefer it the way it is
The problem here is no Swiftness, no Movement Speed increase and No way to escape a fight unless you use Shadow Refuge.
When you mentioned “Great Trait” and “Hard to catch” in the same sentence, everything crumbled apart. Nice attempt though
Haha! Nice pic, I think we even played together the following game xD
The amount of facepalm in this thread is over 9000 and still raising…
Heh, I get your point as I have all disciplines to 500 but only crafted 2 ascended weapons so far (one staff and one dagger) and no armor.
Anyway, since the ascended armor patch prices have skyrocketed. There is no way to keep up if you’re not into it… My suggestion would be to wait and let your resources stock up. Levelling another character in a legit way (that is, no power Levelling through crafting or champ training) might help a lot.
Why do you need to level a crafting discipline anyway? You can buy armor really cheaply on the TV (buy greens every 10 levels then buy exotics when you are at lv80, a full exotic set shouldn’t cost more than 8-10gold)
As a non warrior player (so with limited access to stuns) I disagree. Learning When to use a stunbreaker is really important in this game.
Actually, 0.4 multiplier on skills like Smite Condition is a lot.
