lack of performance with new rig

I see, well changing my rig now would be stupid since its only been like 2 weeks. Maybe in the future sometime.
With the new motherboard and CPU and basically wud be a waste of my previous OEM windows. Maybe I’ll just make do with this for guild wars 2 and if they don’t decide to support multi core performance in like 7-8 weeks, I’ll then look into the 4670 k and z87
Thanks for the replies all, really helped me understand the problem

2 weeks? See if you can return your CPU/MB for a ‘restocking fee’ and then buy an i5-4670K. Usually a restocking fee is about 10%-15% of your total order cost (before taxes).

that is what I would do if i were in your shoes.

When you are lagging, ingame type /ip
Now from windows open Command Prompt and type tracert (the IP Address here)

And submit that to your ISP for them to fix or open a ticket with their link partner(s).

STAY AWAY form 1366×768. The 768 is NOT tall enough to manipulate Excel Spreadsheets

Getting terribly OT here, but what are you basing this on? I have a tablet/laptop hybrid with 1366×768 resolution and Excel opens up 20×20 grid with toolbar visible. Granted I don’t use Excel too much but what is it lacking in 768 pixels that it gains at 900? Just curious.

I don’t fully understand what you mean, basing what on exactly??

He was just asking why my opinion is the way it is for the different resolutions and ‘office work’.

Can’t reach the page, can you post the specs and the cost?

Resolution = Viewable area, yea?
So a document that opens in 1366×768 wont have as large of a workable area as 1920×1080 or 1600×900.

I have this issue ALOT when it comes down to network and server administration applications. To me, Viewable area > everything else.

Word, Excel, PPT, MSTSC, PDF, Clac(openOffice), Dude(WindowsNMS program), NetFlowRawDataGraphs, SolarWindsGraphs, Certain Webpages….ect, List can go on for ever for me here…..

All those above applications are directly affected by the LCD’s native resolution. And affect not only my performance (how fast and efficient I can get work done) but also my quality of life about that.

Example, working in Excel, doing math and verification of cells from A76 over to T87 requires a lot more panning and sheet movement then it would if you ran a high res.

best I could find, again, http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/E2E34AV?HP-ENVY-15t-j100-Quad-Edition-Notebook-PC-ENERGY-STAR-

$834.99

If they would let me drop the i7 down to an i5, that would be 734.99 (like the IBM i found before xmas).

But, there you have it. new, that is the price to expect (734.99 for an i5, or 834.99 for an i7).

Everyone seems to have similar answers, like i said i have basic understanding about these kinds of things and have never had much knowledge on AMD CPU’s, in fact someone did tell me to steer clear. My price range is around 400 to 450 so theres not much chance of me being able to get an amazing one, I’m a student so I cant break the bank. Do you have any suggestions??
Also, Is 8GB required or is 4 okay as well??

Thankyou for your help!

If 500 is your limit, you are stuck with AMD I’m afraid.

About 2 weeks ago I started to look for a laptop replacement that would be ‘better’ then my HP. And the cheapest I could find was about 750. It was an i5 with a Nvidia 755M. Which would have been better on the CPU side, but about the same on the GPU side. So I didn’t buy it yet.

Depending on your Tech Skill and what your willing to put up with, you might want to look into a refurb or used buy. You could easily shave 200-300 off the purchase price and get something a lot better then buying new.

But stay away from HP if you do that. All HP laptops have a fusion issue between the Solder used on the GPU/NorthBrige Chip and the motherboard. It cracks and needs to be reflowed/Baked to be fixed. Used/Refurbed machines almost always end up with these issues. (I have a reflowing kit, so its not so much of an issue for me)

No matter what you buy, your end goal should be the following;

i5 Gen3 or gen4
High end Class 2 or Low end Class 1 Graphics Card – Use http://www.notebookcheck.net to do research on this. Compare Benchmarks between a HD7690M and Nvidia 755M to get a grasp of what I mean
8GB of ram
HDD – Buy with a low end HDD and upgrade it later on. You can get SSDs that are 128GBs for 99Bucks now.
LCD – Important part. STAY AWAY form 1366×768. The 768 is NOT tall enough to manipulate Excel Spreadsheets. You want 1440×900, 1600×900, or 1920×1080. That 900 and/or 1080 is the HEIGHT of the LCD, the taller the better it is for ‘school’ work. This also directly affects gaming. Larger res = the need of a more powerful GPU to drive your desired settings at the higher Res. If you were to buy a laptop with 1366×768, you could swap out the LCD for a 1080P LCD. But you need to part match and also replace the LCD’s Ribbon to the Motherboard. If the laptop comes with 1366×768, the Ribbon is single channel and will NOT drive a 1080p LCD. So that is why you would also need to do that. Upgrading 1366×768 to 1080p costs about 150bucks (depending on LCD options)
The rest of the machine doesnt really matter all that much, other then Brand.

Complicated, yea. But if you want to come in under 500 it has to be complicated.

Well yeah, but you’re really gimping the game with culling. That’s realistically one of the last things that should go on; seeing people is quite important. You’re also losing a lot in terms of character quality there.

Also, when you say “full details”, is that everything turned on as high as it will go?

yes, but you still see name tiles. I have not seen a single rig that can handle the game on full detail and maintain a playable frame rate with out turning down culling.

Full Details = Ultra/Highest settings.

After several users were spreading false info about GW2 never eating more than 500MB vram I investigated and running the detailed preset will push 1Gb @ 1920×1080. Theres absolutely no sense in purchasing a card with under 2GB for a modern pc (keep in mind for gaming) unless it is an HTPC or office pc.

We have threads under this discussion over at Overclockers.com and Overclock.net showing graphs for point of comparison.

For instance, my Yamakasi Catleap 2560×1440 panel, I CAN run it off my 2GB GTX 680 Lightning, I most certainly can, but maxing out games like BF4 will hit a vram wall and introduce stutter at that res. Then again, I also wouldn’t want the 128-bit card either, at least not for gaming.

Please remember the topic of this OP. Gaming rig for 500-600. Anything that can push faster then a R7-260X or HD7790 is going to be 250-300 at a min. and then your talking 2GB vRAM 256bit memory interface….ect.

I am saying, and currently will until this changes, the R7-260x and HD7790 are the BEST CARDs for the price point of $99-$139. I am NOT saying they are the absolute Best cards there are.

And to get 2GB vRAM you are going to pay 30-40 more, in which case you should just jump to a Class 1 card. Which is not in the budget of many (including the OP) that I recommend those 2 cards to.

Yes, using the ingame presets will push the game to use 987MB of vRAM at 1080p. And while Culling will kitten the game, alot in some cases, to keep the game playable with 80+ players on the screen you have to adjust that setting.

If the game had zone specific, or Combat specific, settings that would change on what YOU are doing that would be awesome. But I hate messing with settings all the time, so I leave them for what works ‘best’ in the worst possible scenario.

Gem Store crashes GW2 since last patch

yap it was disabled already, all started after last patch =/

So, this is what I know about the issue so far.

There is a webkit called Awesomium. Its a Web resource kit that is sold to online game companies that want to build an ingame web-based store (Turbine uses this with LOTRO).

It looks like (looking over updates from LOTRO) that this web kit was updated in December to fix a few security issues with SSL. From what I can see from GW2 patching (data written into gw2.dat) awesomium was updated on the 21st.

Now, Anet doesn’t give us ANY update info on this part of the game. And probably for good reason. the Less public info there is the less chance it has to get hacked. We (players) don’t want the gem store hacked, and have gold inflate over night and gem conversion rates to plummet. So I find the lack of patch notes on this ‘acceptable’.

But it looks like some AV solutions are having issues with the latest core update of this web kit. And since its running as a child (yet spawning its own .exe in some cases) is causing conflict with these AV Engines.

The quick and easy fix is to whitelist gw2.exe and all ‘spawned’ processes (not all AV engines have the sub processes as an option) from being scanned and sandboxed.

The dirty fix is to remove your AV and expose your system to infection. This includes killing Windows Defender, and if your Router/Firewall has AV at the gateway disable that too.

Adding GW2.exe and the directory’s that GW2 accesses to my Avast! White list fixed the gem store and made is to it stopped hour glassing and showing up Blank.

Now, thats if the issue is local and not network bound. There is an issue in France with FRA61 (network Fiber Feed between Germany and France). And the gem store issue COULD be related to that node, if your in Europe.

Hi! I’m just looking for a little bit of advice…
I bought GW2 a while ago hoping to play but my macbook wasn’t up to standard
I’m (hopefully) purchasing a windows laptop next week, I believe i’ve found one but I don’t really understand much.
It has:
AMD quad core A8 4555M processor (1.6 GHZ, 4MB cache)
AMD Radeon HD 7600G
1TB storage
8GB memory

I’m just looking for a little help in knowing whether it will run smoothly with the game.

Thankyou!

Hatter.

While the HD7600 is ‘ok’ for graphics, that APU/CPU is not strong enough. You want something from AMD Clocked atleast at 2.0ghz (and then you will overclock that to 2.6ghz via K10Stat)

BUT…I would currently stay away from AMD Based CPUs for this game. They do not stand up to the i3/i5 when just talking about GW2.

Even my laptop (DV6z-6c00) which is finely tuned cannot get more then 8-12FPS in a full on zerg in this game. yet I will get 60-75FPS almost everywhere else (30FPS in LA looking at the fountain). And that’s with my 1.8Ghz CPU overclock to 2.8Ghz, and my GPU overclocked from 600Core/800Memory to 740Core/920Memory. (1080P LCD, I run a 1600×900 Resolution for GW2)

I would suggest looking into a laptop that has an i5 and a medium grade Nvidia GPU (650 or 750…ect). I have not seen any laptops with an i5 and AMD GPU (7690, or higher) for less then 1k USD right now.

Yeah, no, not gonna happen, unless you change your resolution to 640×480 lol

That is not a kind of service you should get for $50.

I want my issue solved, or money for the game refunded, as it is impossible for me to play satisfactionally without Trade Post.

While this forum is moderated by Anet, they do not have a good ‘support’ Presence here. This forum is mainly managed by us volunteers.

So start by telling us what the issue is. Its possible we can help resolve it, or give you advice on how to get it resolved.

Does GW2 shut my computer down?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ikereid.4637

ikereid.4637

When you system shuts down, is it like power was cut or does windows go into ‘windows is shutting down’?

If the power gets cut, its probably your BIOS protecting from Thermal overload on the CPU. You should run CoreTemp to make sure your CPU isnt getting to hot.
Your BIOS will record those errors, so jump into your BIOS and look for Error Logs and see if any thermal protection events are present.

You may need to replace the CPU fan, remove dust, or install new TIM (Thermal Paste) to fix the issue.

If windows goes into ‘shutting down’, then its a virus, schedule or script, or someone hacked in and is messing with you.

If you get a popup box that says ‘windows will shut down in x seconds’ you can abort that by running ‘shutdown -a’ from cmd/run/search.

Again, virus/Malware would be the cause of that.

Highly highly highly recommend looking at another video card, one offering 2GB of VRAM for use if you plan to play @ 1920×1080, this goes alongside any other game you wish to play. GW2 is known to eat up near 1GB of VRAM @ 1920×1080, so if you had hopes to play other games on the new pc, you would be sorely disappointed. Hitting that vram wall in any game will show you no mercy and will suck so hard. 2GB is the sweet spot for 1920×1080 and 3GB/4GB for 2560×1440.

Yea…I have NO issues with my HD7790 at 1080p, and that’s with full details on anything I throw at it.

and GW2 does not use 1G VRAM at 1080p unless you are super sampling and have your character limit above medium. The Most I have ever seen GW2 for vRAM was 760~MB. (Sampling – Native, CharLimit – Low, CharQual – Medium, Rest on High/Ultra).

So I don’t get where you are seeing otherwise….

Technicaly it is in push/pull/pull, as the rear case fan is pulling air out inline with where the cooler is.

It never got stickied becouse anything like that, that gets sticked would need Anets ratification, and they wont ratify it as it would technicaly be admitting to certain performance issues that are pointed out within said post, and go against their offical system requirments.

Ain’t that the truth.
Their system requirements should be sectioned off in;

Casual WvW/PvP
Serious PvE – Fully Qued Map
Serious WvW – Fully Queued Map

In the meantime, how would I check my ISP to see if its cut anything? Would I just see if GW2’s ports are closed/open?

That’s a loaded question. Depending on who your ISP is (Local exchange Carrier, vs mom and pop shop, vs Cable Company) that question and have very different answers.

Every ISP can see everything you are doing. Some Log some Dont. Others have Netflow that tracks your per service usage (HTTP vs HTTPS vs Netflix streaming VS Guildwars2 = For example), in which case when you hit a quota they can kill/block/shutdown that service for a time period.

Now the FCC mandated that was illegal quite some time ago, with Net Neutrality and all that. But that doesnt mean smaller ISP’s follow that. And thats even if your in the US.

So, yea your last question is very loaded.

One way to find out is use the alternate port when GW2 stops working at 8PM. You can tell the Launcher to use port 80 (you can find the how to on the forums for that) and if it connects, then something at your ISP is doing this. In which case, good luck and give them a call :-)

with out knowing who your ISP is, or where your located, its very hard to give good advice on this. Other then Have has already been provided.

My hub doesn’t appear to have any option like that. I’ve gone through every window except for one which is titled “Home Networking” but I cant access it due to a server error.

EDIT: Found it, it was tucked away in a link. Ive looked at it, and it says theres “No access control currently selected”

Ok, then you will want to look at your Desktop/Laptop for spyware. And then finally your ISP (its possible they cut off sessions based on TCP/UDP Volume).

is it possible to run dual graphics cards on that motherboard? I just realized you can do that with some

No, if you want SLI/CrossFire you are looking at 100-200 More + the cost of a 2nd card.
And IMHO its not worth it, unless you are doing some super Resolution displays.

I’m not sure what an Access List is, but when ive googled it, it just comes up with a load of forums talking about iOS or something, but im sure nobody has been playing with my router, beacuse i’m the only person that knows the password to get inside it.

Just out of curiosity, how would I access said Access List and see what is is? Ive never come across the term before or seen it when i’ve been inside my router.

If someone hacked or latched on to your wireless connection, they could have access to your router.

You need to log in, and look for ‘access times’ or something similar. It will have a time/date table of when to restrict what service/port/protocol.

alright sounds good, and I also noticed it said intel hd 2500 graphics, does that come with an integrated graphics chip? Or is that just extra stuff on top of the chip i would buy myself that just gives it an extra umph?

Ignore the HD2500. It is not good for your purpose. You will have it disabled in the BIOS and use your Addon card (whatever you chose, but I still recommend a r7-260X or HD7790 for their current Costs).

The HD2500 is integrated into the CPU.

how much fps do you think that would get me on medium settings in a boss fight

totally depends on how many players are on the screen.

But mine that runs at 5040×900 (Eyefinity) was getting 55-60FPS on ultra (Sampling – Native, Char Limit – Low, Char Quality – Medium) with 15~ Players on the screen in combat.

So at a much lower res, with 30+ players I would expect 30-35~ depending on what Display options and background apps you are running.

For the last 3 days now, ive been unable to play after 8pm.

I get kicked off with some false error code, either saying I have no internet connection, or my security system is messing things up. Well I can conclude my internet connection isn’t an issue, beacuse after 8pm, all my other programs, games and applications sure function fully, and my security sure isn’t an issue either until 8pm, then GW2 magically notices its there. and after that im not allowed back in until 6am the next day, bit odd and mildly suspicious considering it happens at the same time, and when I try to log back in, I get some false error saying I apparently have no internet connection.

Im going to be polite and assume this is just a coincidence and assume its just a normal crash every day at the exact same time, and it stops at the exact same time the next day. Just please identify and fix it, or give me a fix, if its apparently something im doing.

Thanks very much.

Could be someone messing with your routers Access List?
if its a set time everynight that you get dropped and then cannot reconnect until the next day. That would tell me a time schedule was setup to block GW2’s Traffic.

I would look into your router, or the one(s) who manage it (IE, room mate, Parents, School IT Department…ect)

okay, so if i was to get a Intel CPU, which would you recommend? I canceled the order for the AMD one i had ordered, as it seemed to be “not enough” for what I have in mind.

That is the BARE MIN I would accept for a new build today.

So also from what im understanding is the AMD CPU i linked wont be as good with the game as an intel cpu due to hyperthreading with intel’s cpus?

It’s not hyperthreading, its the fact AMD sucks for single threaded performance, and Intel doesn’t. That is all.

I previously had a laptop, so using anything from that is a no-go. Max settings for me with good graphics would be around 25-30fps in a world boss fight minimum. I forgot to mention i have a case, a cpu, and a motherboard, let me link them because i can still send them back if they arent sufficient:
CPU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009O412AU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Motherboard: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009HP42HQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003SNJA8O/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

20-25FPS in a world boss with that CPU is impossible. You are looking at 8-12FPS.
You need to buy an Intel CPU (i3 Clocked at 3.2Ghz for a baseline, or an i5-K)

47" or whatever doesnt matter. Its the 1080p Resolution you will be driving.

Build it right, sell your CPU/ Motherboard, and get a 1150 socket+i3 (to save on Cash) and then throw in the rest.

Right. That’s like a combination of those 2. Like I said, I would choose the motherboard in the option #1 regardless (getting the exact same on Sunday, dun dun duuunn), it’s only $9 more. RAM could be dropped down to 4 GB, my 8 might be a little excessive. Single module is usually cheaper than dual for the same amount, but if the performance increase is worth it, it’s again only a few dollars more.

True. but either way, 500-600 is very limiting for this game.

Or he could copy my build

But I don’t suggest that, its nearly 2k. (amazing at how parts retain their value over time)

GW2 spawns a browser kit to open the Gem store. They may have updated that Kit in the patch (we will never know, as they dont tell us ANYTHING about the browser kit!!!!).

For reasons above, I’ve chosen this build:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2FHis

This is with all new parts, very low capacity HDD (320 GB, might be enough for some) what you would be looking at to run GW2 about the best as can be for as low as possible.

another option would be:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2FHv9

This is with a weaker CPU and a motherboard that doesn’t allow overclocking. Even with this CPU I would recommend the board in the first build, it’s less than 10 dollars more and like squish said it opens the possibility of future upgrade.

Now keep in mind both of these are extremely stripped down, there’s even no DVD-drive in either one of them (which bring in some problems with Windows installation from the DVD). As you can see, you really can’t get a gaming rig in the $400-500 span from new parts. This also excludes monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc…

I agree. But I changed the Top link a little bit

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2FI6e

Dropped to an i3, and changed the Ram to 2×2GB CL7 (Dual channel is faster then single channel)

With out the OS the cost is 479, with the OS its 530. Gives the OP a option to upgrade to an i5-k or i7-k down the road when he/she has more cash. It will be able to play the game moderately well .

I setup a i3-2120 and R7-260X last night – 80-100FPS, Combat with 12players is 45-55FPS, Zergs drop down to 10FPS. So I would expect that +8-10% due to the 4th Gen CPU and PCI-E 3.0.

From a FX-8350 to an i3-2120….the difference is night and day for this kitten game. It makes me sad, and yes…I died a little inside after doing the Benches after the ‘upgrade’

okey ill put the results here or they get lost middle of the thread ->

one note, i did drop my graphic card to stock clock rates so the scores are comparable, if someone want to measure his card versus “high” end card.

i did run unigine heaven with following options , DX11, Ultra quality, Extreme tesselation, 8x AA, FullHD resolution.(1920×1080)

results:
pci-e 2.0: FPS 49.9, Min FPS 8.2, Max FPS 102.5, Score 1257
pci-e 3.0: FPS 50.6, MIN FPS 25.4!!, Max fps 103.3, score 1274
conclusion: Minium framerate got dramatical(~310%) boost with 3.0 slot config. max and average fps stayed practically same within margin of error. also temperatures on GPU stayed same on both slot configs.

i will run 3dmark11 fire strike with “stock” settings
pci-e 2.0: GPU score 10203, below is the link for run details.
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2275281
pci-e 3.0: 10234, below link to run details
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2275596

3dmark didnt receive any boost at all, scores did stay in margin of “error”.

so my thougths are 2.0 -> 3.0 will improve performance on situations when test/game required extreme amount of raw power, and the increace is quite huge, since if it was game 8.2fps to 25fps would make game playable.

Pretty much coincides with what I am seeing for Lows and my theory behind it.

PCI-E3.0 has more BW then compared to 2.0. the CPU AND GPU will both benefit from it. epically under heavily stressed CPU scenarios. Which GW2 is one of those scenarios :-)

Define MAX settings. And under what circumstances?

My Idea max is 80-100FPS with the acceptable Drops to kitten in normal scenarios (Lows being 10-15 on ALL currently available hardware). at 1600×900 or 1080p

In that case, you CAN build a i3 based system with a HD7790 or R7 260X and play the game on max settings (Sampling – Native, Char limit – low, Char Quality – Medium). For about 600.

What I would suggest; Build on Socket 1155. Get a 2nd Gen i3 (They are cheap) Clocked at 3.2Ghz or higher, I found one on ebay used for 65bucks a week ago.
Build using a high quality Motherboard (Z Series for future CPU Upgrades), Get 8GB of ram (1600mhz CL9), and a good 500w PSU.

Then start hunting down your Video card. Newegg had a steal on a R7 260X for $129 + 4 free Games (Value of 179bucks – Included Thief!). Fry’s had a steal on a HD7790 for $99bucks. So that would be your price point for that ‘grade’ of card.

Anything faster is not worth the price due to how GuildWars2 is coded. And DO NOT buy anything that performs less then them. (GTX 550, GTX650, R7 250, HD7770, <— They all cost more and perform LESS then the HD7790 and R7 260x)

But with how this game runs, and what your budget is. That’s about as good as you can get it, IMHO.

Got to remember the computer works as a unit and not as a sum of it’s parts. And it’s true you really can’t talk about ‘performance in zerg with x versus y’ for the reasons you listed, you really can’t simulate the moment afterward. Better just hope the game engine gets a little more optimized or a miracle happens and we get those 12 GHz processors for mainstream use soon

+1, I want a 16core 12GHZ + HT Intel i34 CPU :-)

But its true, the computer will only be as fast as its slowest component (something we all learned back when ISA slots were still used)

PCi-E 2.0 to 3.0, As you have seen, is about a 10% gain.

Now, that being said, That 10% Gain affects Low end side of the FPS as well. While GW2 is heavily CPU bound, you will get 2-3 MORE FPS with PCI-E3.0 then 2.0 at absolute Lows as well (Where it really makes a difference IMHO). So that Low 8 becomes 11~.

If your GPU and PCI-E Slots Supports 3.0, there is no reason NOT to enable it. It’s a free 10% Gain.

If your GPU is of High quality (anything that can push 80-100FPS right now) and is PCi-E 2.0, there is no reason to upgrade. You would have to consider the MB and the GPU for a 10% gain over your current, Maybe More depending on Options. But you will be looking at Hundreds to upgrade for that 10%.

I fail to understand your math here a bit, at 10 fps 10% increase means only 1 fps right? Only at 20 it becomes 22 and at 30 it becomes 33. Also, as you know, for most people (in GW2) the situation where your FPS is ~10 is when your CPU lacks the power, adding power to GPU shouldn’t help, right?

PCI-3.0 isnt just the GPU though its also the NB link to the CPU.

And its very Difficult to give a solid % when dealing with such Low FPS we get in this game. But the numbers i gave as examples are what I personally experienced between 2.0 and 3.0 (I had Chipset Driver issues for a while, which later got resolved…to enable 3.0 again).

So while you may get a low 8FPS on a low map one day, tomorrow your max low might be 10FPS (Depends on Class spell makeups that are being throwing in your characters visual area, as well as how lazy the players are being about attacking.) But I went from a low single Digit to a low double digit. Since Fixing my System to be 3.0, I have not had a low single digit FPS since.

Well, we established up in the thread (where I should have paid more attention) it’s owned by Tinet in Germany, and Telenor don’t seem to want to do much with it.

Which is nice.

It’s almost like companies don’t want to do business. :/

Welcome to the backbone. That’s how it is. Though, if its a Germany company their Hop is in France (hence the Fra name in the host). The french Govt would have put rules and reg on that hop for them to feed the pipe through France.

In the US we have the FCC that you can make reports to. I am not sure what organization you can do that to over there however. But that would be a good start, to investigate ‘why’.

.. is what comes after.

I’ll be having my husband look into this for me. He can be very persuasive when required, and works on an international level.

Just as I feared. Its a long haul from FRA to the datacenter. Probably oceanic fiber.

Even if your husband works on an ‘international’ level that wont be enough to fix/drive this.

It would have to come down from the French Govt, or from the company’s CEO/CTO for whoever owns FRA61.

and even then, it has to be diagnosed and a project has to be built to fix it. If its oversubscribed (on fiber) there is a reason, and it could be a cost issue or a international issue between Europe’s countries.

Only thing that can be done is contact whoever owns fra61 and report these findings, and call in every week or updates. Or, go down to their offices and request a meeting with their CTO on the matter (Good Luck with that).

[Perfomance] problem on Marionette event

Thanks in advance for the attention paid to this post, and I apologize for my english.

Yesterday (at 1:00 a.m. UTC+01:00 ) i’ve tried to do the Marionette event but i can’t have a proper game play.
I’ve joined the area and the party on the spot, we was 100+ player who were waiting impatiently for the start.
No lag or any kind of problem, my FPS stable on 20/25, all the graphic setting on low, very low or turned off.
At the end of the countdown my FPS drop to 1… i can’t move or cast or see anything, can’t look the portal to get to the platform… can’t do nothing.

With The wurm event (always 100+ player and a whole different number and kind of mob) i have no problem… but actualy i can’t play where and when the Marionette event start.

There’s something i can do?
I’ve tried the performance settings explained on the pinned topic.

Video Driver Up to date
OS Up to date

With out your system specs, and more ingame info its hard to tell you whats at fault.

You can start by running GPU-Z, CPU-Z, and CoreTemp to minitor your system to rule out underpowered hardware for the event (your 20-25FPS around 100+ Players makes me think your on a i5 or i7 with a high end GPU already…but again you gave no specs).

Then you need to rule out networking issues. Ingame do /ip, then in windows command prompt do a ‘tracert’ to that IP address output from /ip.

the MS TTL’s should all be close to each other (Should be 10MS or less from you to YOUR isp, then anywhere from 25MS up to 65MS all the way to NCSoft’s servers. You are looking for Hops that report 100MS+ while the rest are ‘normal’). If you see hops that jump up in response time then its a network issue between you and NCSoft.

If your network is clean (Like mine was) then its server side, and the event is currently to much for the server + 100~ Players in the area, for the server your Home to. Which is what I think is really happening.

Connection issues, Theory on why.

I’m no expert in this field, but when I compare traceroute reports of my own and those I have seen in different threads in this forum concerning this issue, it could well be that node ae5.fra61.ip4.tinet.net [141.136.107.218] in France is the one to blame. (SNIP!).

You might NOT be an expert. But you did expertly diagnose this issue.

That hop would be at fault, and anyone who had a contract with that ISP should contact them and get that hop adjusted (over subscription) or fixed (faulty Interface Card, Routing Engine, or failing/aging router).

Until that happens, the issue wont resolve itself.

I just did a trace route, and this

6 * * ae5.fra61.ip4.tinet.net [141.136.107.218]

was lurking within.

I shall have a minion get on to that asap.

What are the hops after that fra61? If it’s what I think it is, then fra61 is over subscribed and being used as a ‘central’ BW pipe.

If you have connections out there, see if they are willing to change the BGP tables to route between 2-3 MORE nodes for the affected countries (They can pick and choose source subnets, and change their destination path).

But, ive always had back luck working with the french in networking. They never admit to their own issues, and they rarely administer fixes that actually ‘help’.

I believe i had config for pci-e in BIOS which let me force 2.0 or 3.0, i will do testing when i get to home and share the results. Do you guys have any other bechmark in mind than unigine heaven for this?

GLXGears, 3dmarks(any version).

The 2.0-3.0 is sorely going to be a FPS increase.

Yeah i bealive too its going to increase fps but how much is the difference is my question.

About 10%. Both on High end FPS and Low end FPS.

increase resolution

Windows will tell Full screen Applications to use the Monitor’s supported resolution of the DEFAULT display (Your PC monitor).

There are 2 ways to fix this for GW2.

1. easiest, Run GW2 in Windowed-Fullscreen Mode.

2. Either Unplug the PC monitor (If Laptop, set display to disable LCD), or set the HDMI/TV as the Primary display, then restart GW2.

Most apps will remember last res used. So if your LCD doesnt support 1080P GW2 will over scale and will probably cause your PC monitor to shut off. You can fix this by remembering to set the res before you disable the TV back to your PC Monitors scale. OR you can delete the GW2 preference file to reset the games settings.

Those are your options.
