Okay I made one major mis-calc here with Necro… Spectral Grasp. It’s a 30 sec Knockdown as well as a Spectral skill which with the right Trait, helps you constantly charge Shroud back up and the Shroud fear is 20 seconds. Together that’s a bit better than a 40 second mark or atleast a good compliment (Pulls seems to be ATLEAST as important with this as KB’s are due to how too much Knockback will cause the Pact AI to mess up and run ahead). I’m also wondering if Lich Form any good or if Fleshy is better just b/c it doesn’t lock you out of your Utils…
(edited by ilr.9675)
This is starting to get ridiculous.
After that little outburst, they also Spammed my name on LFG.com for dungeons.
…which resulted in tons of people blind-inviting to my Party.
Terrible attempt at trolling, and I’m not even mad (I LOVE dungeons).
Just sharing this b/c it goes beyond just messing with the order we run these events in…
I don’t think there’s a rewards imbalance at all
I think it’s mostly false perceptions and people are just chasing the Newest Shiniest Shiny until they get sick of it once they realize what a terrible Time > Effort ratio it really is.
I got 3 exotics yestersday for example.
…only 1 of them came from a Coffer and it was only worth 1g (so I tossed it on my Guardian b/c it was a Healing Scepter which none of my other characters can even use). And then I took the Scepter he WAS using and rolled it with 2 other Trash Exotics plus a Forge Stone. Got a 5G Exotic back from the Forge. Meanwhile I’ve only gotten 1 single Rare from these same Coffers and not a single lodestone yet. The bulk of my real income still comes from Heavy Moldy bags, and Daily Chest Rares. (for Ectos)
(edited by ilr.9675)
Not everyone is spec’d for 1v1 or even has a class that was ever balanced around them in the first place. … and sometimes they’re just trolling the tryhards b/c they know if you keep chasing them but never catch them, they win b/c they’ve just wasted a bunch of your time. (sorta like a bunch of the posts in this thread)
Ranger is extremely situational and not more useful than other classes in 95% of the content. OP is right in letting it languish for now.
And yes I run Spotter & Spirits + NaturesVoice/SpiritsUnbound in temple zerg… But having more than 1 person doing that for every ~12 people present is a waste.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Be hilarious if it actually ends up being a Master’s level salvage when it comes to material quantities (and salvaging Greens). Wouldn’t put it past them to hide something like that in its coding just like all the initial confusion when people realized BL Salv kits were giving more Ectos than the description implied.
Quoting Colin from another thread on this matter:
The setting adjustments you can make currently will expand beyond just WvW, and simply be a game wide setting you apply for culling rules. For most folks, this means you can adjust the settings to actually improve your performance over current performance if you wish, since fallback models and name-tags are cheaper than full model renders.
If you do want to turn everything up to insane, you also now have that option to see an extremely large number of people in all their graphics glory. The choice is entirely yours!
In other words, yes you will be able to adjust culling levels the same as WvW.
So does this also mean the difficulty of popular Dynamic Events is going to keep being ratcheted up along with that? IE: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Temple-of-Balthazar-event-impossible/first
In this example, what makes it “impossible” is usually the Culling Limitations themselves. You typically can’t see the special Mobs before they make the events automatically fail by one-shotting everything or getting one-shot.
Does removing that limitation for people with more powerful computers mean that everyone is now going to be expected to complete these these new more difficult events? (that weren’t listed in the Patch notes as one of your Devs admits there)
(edited by ilr.9675)
Ah yeah, now that you mention it, that appears to be where the big break-down occurred with the first attempt when I rewatched video of that one several times (Didn’t upload that b/c I didn’t get a very good view of where all the Vets actually were ….but yeah we were all split up all over the place then) … so basically you really have to manipulate and control the AI in this. Don’t just push every Vet too far along or too far away with physics, keep them in 1 spot so the Pact also stays “leashed” to that same spot, is what I’m reading this as.
(edited by ilr.9675)
If it’s not linked to the Cash Shop, it usually doesn’t get 1 on 1 attention.
(been like this all year)
I’m not sure what to make of this….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57ObZKFbaDI
This is from last night’s 2nd attempt. (obviously I made some mistakes in it).
I thought everything spawned in a specific order in the same places usually.
GWC told everyone to stay NEAR the pact… I don’t know if that means in a proximity to them instead of literally on top of them all the time? I’m not sure. But it worked so long as the Pact itself didn’t get split up and cause stuff to spawn too early?
.
Whole thing feels a bit too random tho’ for how quickly these Wells can be Multi-casted or whatever is happening… hope it helped a little bit anyway. I think it shows just how much CC was needed, everyone was pouring it on like there was no tomorrow.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Just so long as they DONT TOUCH the #3 skill…. I use that as my “Mount”.
If they ever mess with the #3 then I’ll be demanding that they let us ride our Pets instead.
Sounds like someone stockpiled and wants to profit.
Dat Greymarket Loophole…
I don’t think the lousy 3-7 silver we get from Champ Coffers is going to continue to cause massive inflation once the Pavillion thing ends. ….As long as there’s an Equal amount of T5 “large” fine mats (claws, fangs, totems, etc) dropping, then a lot of the Gold will actually get {Sinked} {sic} very rapidly by Crafters converting them into Ectos & Dust.
Anet just needs to make darn sure that those T5’s are in every other Coffer/Bag that gets opened instead of the Silk/Leather we’re getting 3/4’s of the time right now…
(edited by ilr.9675)
I wouldn’t say most Herbs are ever “farmed”. Even with guesting, there’s limited supplies hourly. Though I think the biggest limiter here is just character movement speed. Node “Farming” could probably compensate price spikes like these if Anet ever came up with a really intuitive & skill based “Mount” system for Open-world scouting. And that’s pretty much ALWAYS been their Mantra anyway: “If we’re going to add something to this game from standard MMO’s, we’re going to make sure it serves a real purpose that fits our game”. We can probably argue how often they actually execute on that promise, but we know the intent will atleast be there…. And when they add player housing, they could add GARDENING along with it
I’ve kinda given up on herbing myself even though I’ve got Perma swiftness & long distance leaps on TWO different weapon sets… I generally enjoy the mechanics of it but the RNG nature of the nodes just KILLS my will to do it every single day. There’s nothing worse IMO than rushing through every inch of Timberline & Dredgehaunt with only 8 Rosemaries to show for it and 50 godkittened THYME and BEETS. Some of these stupid low-demand ingreds just plain need to be taken OUT of the mid-level Node Tables….

I’m a Frostgorge farmer/zergling on our server and I like it. It’s the most fun I’ve had in a long time in this game. With all this ridiculous, half-polished, buggy and often incredibly frustrating Living World content ArenaNet insists on adding every two weeks, I have found a place where I can enjoy the cameraderie of my fellow players (a cornerstone of this game, supposedly), visit an area I love the look of (all that design work paid off) and get rewarded for it. With how prohibitive this game is to amass anything worthwhile, I’m glad I (as a casual gamer with a full time job) can at least get ahead a little with my casual builds and professions.
So to those calling for nerfs to the champions, QQ more. Maybe if ArenaNet didn’t introduce the massive zergfest (AKA the Pavilion) themselves, I would have cared more for maintaining the (already effed up) economy, helping with (one pathetic reward a day) bosses, or setting foot in dungeons.
This guy makes a pretty solid point too :\
Anet’s sending more mixed signals than usual lately…
All skins should be treated in the same way.
… Or they could just add a Mystic Forge recipe that lets us Convert normal T-Stones into T-Crystals and stop this ridiculous cycle of gem exchange inflation for a cosmetic you’ve already earned the right to keep applying to level 80 gear…
LM*O, so many clueless responses in that thread…
But no, there’s never any casual reason for this thing with it’s current Crafting Cost.
I’m leveling up a mesmer right now purely on Crafting which so far is only 1/2 the price of a single Lodestone after calculating Losses (the majority of which are for things like Coal, Thread, and Water jugs … which means I’m actually breaking even on every other material)
That’s kind of the whole point though… People are just farming lottery tickets right now.
And it’s not helping the supply of things that are incredibly disproportionate to the exact equivalents of those items in their own loot class. IE: compare Glacial Cores to Charged Cores and then despair…. Are “Icy” themed mobs 10x more common than Electric ones?? No they’re not. It’s the RNG & Crafting systems and the complete lack of any means for generating a steady flow of these incremental materials that eventually would allow the market to “correct itself”.
Crystal Dust for example was in this same exact place 2 months ago. They eventually HAD to fix that…. and they sorta did (It’s still 3 to 4x more expensive than it should be though b/c again, the salvage table has such poor probabilities in it). And that’s working out okay for everyone. They can do the same thing with other shortages if they stop this binary lottery approach and let the players have some say in the supply.
Maybe IF we’d gotten more Charged stones in these Coffers….
(but no…. they thought Drips of Karma and Masterworks would be so much better than guaranteed Slivers which MIGHT be charged …. but most of the time would probably just be crystal/molten knowing the RNG).
I dunno who decides their Drop tables but it’s pretty clear when you look at popular opinion that they should find someone else for it who actually understands “Incremental Relationships”. This All or Nothing approach just makes people give up entirely.
(edited by ilr.9675)
OP’s first analogy was just really bad and incomplete. I demand a better one :p
There are very big balance disparities in this game. It’s nothing at all like DAoC / WH / or even Gw1 where eventually, real skill or atleast “Optimal Rotation” builds actually did overcome the majority of imbalances in the obsessive areas of Undue Efficacy Importance. (gvg HA speedclears etc)
When it comes to raids, it honestly doesn’t matter though. World Boss Events are all the proof you’ll ever need of that b/c time and again, Anet proves the area they have the hardest times balancing are Raid rewards and since we’ve already got a better thread about that, it doesn’t need to be argued here.
(edited by ilr.9675)
My ex-wife City of Heroes …
… In the end, it amounts to players wanting a skinner box to call home, and players wanting a sense of superiority over others through statistical values (better gear, more money, higher levels) rather than actual skill (AKA something like Street Fighter).
heh, did I ever mention I led one of the only teams that ever got Master of the Lord Recluse Strike Force without using a Perma-Dom Mind troller? …. Heh, used to brag about that like it was going out of style. The one thing I never mentioned though was that we used atleast 3 different other Exploits that no one knew about (b/c they were on powersets that no one else really played as the FotM/Meta).
Status is a motivator. Even if it’s just Nerd Status. Look at all these Hipsters who never would have gone anywhere near an RPG or Computer Game ~15 years ago b/c they “weren’t Cool then”. …I think that probably describes most of Anet’s marketing dept infact…
(edited by ilr.9675)
you’re not in Riders, so I’m not buying the emoticon
…just tell me what time you usually run, no guesting needed
This’ll give me extra opportunities to record the spawn locations too…
PS: why the hell are we losing to Ebay now??
or simply make the trash fights die more quickly, but require more skill to defeat.
One problem with this still: Berserkers > All
Design a lingerie that would look sexy on a fearsome lion, I dare you.
wrong website dude
You’re serious? … the 4 Horsemen, AND their pack of 20 Dryders on both sides, and the 6-8 Dhuum Skellies that also piled in with them?… blinding spellcasters? what is this I don’t even… You must have done it way before they changed everything by adding Dhuum and the Extra Dryders (also this …which was just as bad usually)
A spirit spammer also worked. Which we used. I thought you were with us back then. Don’t you remember ilr?
yeeeeaah…. I do … i think toad says hi btw
(haven’t seen steph tho who was usually the SS)
(e.g. “OK, we sent the bad guys running and everybody who helped gets a title and some exotic socks, but we found out where the main villain is hiding, go do this instance for an additional reward – but this will be difficult”).
Pretty sure that’s the Word-for-Word description of what Explorables were….
Gee I wonder whatever happened to those??
almost every single set of pants for Charr, look exactly alike.
I don’t mean the details, but rather the “Form”. It’s like they made one single “Mesh” for it and then just pasted the Texture for every single Leggins onto that Mesh without changing the Rigging one bit beyond using “Scaling” in all 3 Axis at once.
…& yes these are CG modeling terms…
One of these days I’ll see if I can produce some sketches of what they should have done instead of this “copy past Plantigrade rigging onto Beastly Cat Legs” stuff…
I don’t think you know anything about character art. As someone who’s worked professionally as a character and environment artist I can safely say that not one charr pants mesh is the same model. The textures and normal maps are entirely different and many of the pants have entirely different physics to the cloth. They do, of course, rig them all the same way, but that’s how all character models are. You have your base mesh which is rigged and you bind and paint weights onto the armor on top of said rig. ArenaNet does some extra work by removing unseen polygons to reduce the overall triangle count as well, which also saves internal clipping issues in the character itself. I wouldn’t doubt it if ANet character artists used PM_HeatWeight to rig their armors in time for launch though. It gets any rig 95% percent correct, but often you have to go in and paint the weights for fine details to avoid clipping.
All that snubbery and then you just ended up agreeing with my point about Rigging anyway. …do you even produce multiple wardrobes for non-Human characters??
Flimsii > Criken
(can say that b/c they’re friends …).
Eligibility as in having a free slot to put a lev 1 on is the bigger issue IMO.
The only thing wrong with Guilds is that the Storage isn’t Cross-Server.
The only thing wrong with Karma… (besides Vet Plaguebearers now)

Ha ha ha
the hologram in LA looks to be cross-eyedSomebody somewhere is saying, “I just don’t know what went wrong.”
Evon …. he has connections.
Yeah sorry for getting off track…
Look some people find purpose in being compulsive in general.
When real life doesn’t reward them for it, MMO’s usualy DO.
And this one is no exception. The first one wasn’t exactly pure skill based EITHER when it came to actually showing off Weapon skins (frog scepter, BDS, IDS, etc…). They were all RNG too just like Precursors. Some people would run the same dungeon for months before just giving up and buying it from some lucky SOB who got theirs after less than 10…
But yeah, there was also some really good points in here and elsewhere about why D.E.’s by themselves let the Players down first, way before the players let Anet down.
(edited by ilr.9675)
(which we adapted to by HAVING to recruit a “Shadowform Tank” every single time)…
I don’t recall doing that when I did it, I just would pack blinding skills like “Throw Dirt” or such and others would do similar.

I’m diagnosing the reason the Video didn’t save…. I’m pretty sure though it’s b/c the File went over 2 GB’s and when GW2 is running, I don’t have 2gb’s of Physical to Spare
Sorry guys…. I’ll try to get it next time b/c it basically had the exact spawning locations of EVERY vet that casts these Wells on it. Which needless to say, would be a lot more useful than me just talking about how we did it :p
We just completed it with 100% pact Morale. What’s your Best?
I recorded a video myself but it didn’t save b/c apparently 32 bit OS doesn’t leave me enough room to record when GW2 is taking up the rest of the ram…. **** it… I’ll just record it in smaller pieces next time. (What I wouldn’t give for an in-game Demo recording system like Valve has!)
(edited by ilr.9675)
^fair enough.
Though there’s only 1 person stating Reikou’s case (him) b/c the rest of us know that ratcheting up the difficulty through “Artificial Difficulty” just discriminates against several classes. We completed every piece of Orr we usually do and it only took 20 minutes longer than our fastest times while also getting the Pact to Balthazar with not less than 100% morale so I supposed there’s something to be said about adapting. But that’s only “interesting” to people like Reikou and Me (and the other 20 regs who pitch in on these hardest parts). I believe the word is “Cloistering”…
The same thing happened with Asc Catacombs when they “redid” that. It just created even more disparity between the players who already had experience, and the players who needed a chance to learn it first before some parts of it got turned into “Hard Mode” …never mind that it’s usually the first introduction they get to Explorables…
Does Anet know what they’re doing here? Obviously. They had incredibly gimmicky content in the first game too that they “UpTuned” when they noticed the Hardcores like Reikou and the masochists like me were rolling through it unscathed. U.W. being a prime example b/c they needed to tone down the Ecto farming there too. But the changes they made (which we adapted to by HAVING to recruit a “Shadowform Tank” every single time)… just destroyed the uniqueness and the “fun” of the area. It made bringing along even 1 new player in an 8 man party a huge Risk. …forget trying to bring 2 or 3.
.
….and that’s the direction I’m seeing these D.E.‘s now heading in too except we don’t have any power over who comes along anymore, who AFK’s in the town nearby and still causes the Event diff to Scale up, and least of all: any control whatsoever over the NPC’s we have to keep alive.
Challenge is good. Challenge is a situation where things are difficult but you can change their outcomes because you have some control over them. …what they’re doing now, is just Chaotic Gimmicks; until no one but the most adamant hardcores are left still attempting it—does it succeed. How does anyone else learn from that? Watch videos of it that just spawns a bunch of copy cats?…until those Builds get nerfed b/c there’s too many copy cats? This is the Pattern where yes Anet seems to know what they’re doing but at the same time it just creates even more work for Anet too and an endless cycle of nerfing that NO ONE likes.

Dungeon Forum is better if you like real lulz/drama though.
sPvP is kinda okay but it’s a bit too…. SSBM Tourney flavored with no actual WamboCombos to keep it interesting…
Can I be disappointed with the Anniversary offerings without being called entitled plz??
I don’t Farm “the Meta” and I stayed FAR FAR away from COF. And I stop and help other people who are struggling with Events every chance I get. I go waaaaay out of my way to set up Pre-Events ahead of time… often soloing stuff that was intended for THREE players to be fighting at once …. just to make everything easier for everyone else who joins in on the main Events later on. I’ll even run dungeons for people or donate expensive Insignia’s to their “build Testing” so long as they aren’t requesting that help half an hour before I’m supposed to be heading to bed. I do it b/c it’s just what I do. I don’t know HOW to enjoy doing anything else. When other people make a big deal about it I actually get a little uncomfortable (character flaw/issues? probably…need to work on that)
All I want in return…. is simple celebration stuff like we had in Gw1 that doesn’t BREAK the rest of the game or cause every other zone & dungeon in the game to Empty out. We got Cupcakes, and Minis… and we were HAPPY. We were so goshdarned content that we’d pay 70+ Platinum for some of those Gifts from people who weren’t completely happy with theirs. ….that was back when everything wasn’t automatically soulbound
Is asking for that too much? Would that really make me entitled?
(edited by ilr.9675)
1 or 2 of them is Dynamic …. Grenth and Balthazar Temples come instantly to mind just becasue there’s been 2 huge threads dedicated to their completion every day for the last…. 9 months?? …
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/events/Uncontested-Temple-of-Balthazar/first
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/events/Uncontested-Temple-Of-Grenth-2/first
These are indeed “world changers” for a portion of the community and they require what every major Event chain in every zone should have had from the beginning: Multiple Roles for players to fill. Not just Zerg DPS. ….They’ve taken that way too far with the recent change to Subjugator & PlagueBearer wells, but the way they previously failed when people don’t spread out and play different roles, definitely kept it interesting.
The big downside to these multiple roles however… atleast in Grenth’s case, is that if you’re “Wrangling” the Shades, then you don’t even get to TAG the Priest for Credit or a drop chance. …b/c Tagging him means you also have to deal with his AOE’s while trying to also deal with the Shades and that’s just impossible to manage even if you have Stealth. You could single handedly be holding the aggro of up to 30 shades and saving the lives of almost everyone else on the Priest and then not get ANY CREDIT at all (I do every single night ) …but when enough people AREN’T doing that, it fails automatically b/c those Shades eventually saturate every inch of floorspace there with their “massive attack” PBAOE.
.
Then there’s the fact that there’s competing zones like Farmsdale…. err I mean Queens, which will continue to hold the vast majority of “DE participants” (using that terms VERY loosely) b/c there’s no setup involved. They just go from Spawn point to Spawn point like it was Everquest. It’s really godkittend sad to watch that sort of content Trump everything else in the game that had so much more potential…. If I was Anet, I’d be really disappointed by that too. (But I wouldn’t take it out on everyone still doing Orr!!!)
(edited by ilr.9675)
Or “Lazy Eye” …which is actually funnier looking than Cross eyed
(no offense meant to ppl who actually have that problem of course)

thread about it here as well:

…and the only response so far from anyone at Anet:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Temple-of-Balthazar-event-impossible/first#post2586324
Although that doesn’t really address your issue since a single Jester Champ can instantly kill every member of the Team in a single Bomb barrage (along with any players trying to rez them)
The only way to beat this right now is to NOT have more than 5 people anywhere near Meddler’s (which is almost impossible b/c lots of people just AFK there out of sheer habit)
I just ran it through today. The difficulty was fine.
Also Necromancer is “THE BEST” class for the Balthazar Event. Put Marks down, Staff 1,2,3,4,5 right before the enemies spawn. When the enemies do spawn drop Spectral Wall in front of them to fear em away. Then drop Well of Suffering and Well of Darkness on the pact formation, go to Plague form and charge into the enemy casters, spamming the 2 ability to blind them.
Could you please record video of this “working” as you claim it works?
I play Necro too, and there is no combination of traits that would suggest you’ve found some magical loophole in disrupting their Wells with this approach…(reapers being on a 40 sec recharge, etc) Please back up your claims Sir. I recognize that BP did indeed open this Temple, but I question what role, if any, you had in it.
(edited by ilr.9675)
I think the Champion that spawns in that Balthazar Fighting ring near Glix also doesn’t drop anything (and basically 1 shots multiple people who attempts to melee him with the power of “SHAZZZAM!”).
No^ Actually the thread somehow got split up in talking about the Chan escort too which is just as bad as this Pact escort when you get Champion Jesters spawning on it. …no idea why no one from Anet has bothered to respond to this though and actually tell us if the Plaguers spawning multiple massive wells almost instantly is actually intentional or not. …would really be nice to find that out guys! * hint hint *
Not that players loved protecting NPCS in that game either. >.>
Oh god… here comes the TOGO flashbacks again…. aaaAaAHHHH

I think there’s a huge difference between “feminine” and “skimpy”.
Just looking at this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_heavy_armor
…I’d say only the Whisper’s armor is feminine and that forces a personal Storyline investment you might not have wanted.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heavy_plate_armor …is also close without needlessly involving “skirts” that some people are really sick of. …and if you like a flowing skirt, there’s always Draconic which is the default 80 crafted… It’s not so much feminine as it might be called “Canthan” but probably the majority of armor sets I saw females preferred in Gw1 were also Canthan. (maybe we’ll get more of that content back eventually?).
