Since Votes could be farmed or bought in stacks of 12 for 1gold… it was actually set up for GNASH TO WIN since the people with the most money were actually more likely to vote for Gnash, being Market Tycoons themselves …demographically speaking.

Why didn’t they?? You’ll have to ask them that.

People here at the studio where as passionate about this as you folks, so we had both Kiel and Gnashblade supporters. I for example play a charr, so I was obviously on #TeamGnashblade.

That’s racist.

Then again I’m asuran… so Naturally I wanted to see the explanation behind the Reactor.

Some people did guest last night who were looking for Balth/Karka. I think most of them met up with the main Force and even made it into Southsun before the Overflow Queue took over. One or two of them even helped us start the Pact pre’s early which helped us complete the entire temple Tour 20 minutes ahead of time. They asked questions; They were observant of what was happening around them. That was terrific, so thank you to those players, their presence is very much welcome and appreciated.

.

Dude… Chill, enjoy the game.

When people chill too much, the events break down and stop succeeding.
The entire game would become irrelevant and pointless if everything was as dumbed down as your hippy drum circle XP farms in Queensdale… (which by tomorrow will also be end-game l00t & Exotic Skin farms too which will eventually get nerfed and just lead to even more Crying from the unskilled & entitled masses who should be learning to appreciate and seek out challenges, not avoid them simply b/c they can fail)

Balthazar and the Triumph of the Zerg

in Dynamic Events

ilr.9675

I have video proof to the Contrary of this thread’s Subject line.
Here’s 2 snippets of the most crucial part… (attempt #1 failed completely)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-tR5U29Xms
…This part often decides whether it’s won or lost, right off the bat…
If you have TOO many people, this can actually happen more often, not less.

The reasoning is that the Vets that spawn, all have HP’s that scales up with the player count. Too many players means that too many Vets that take too long to kill are spread all over the Battledfield which the REDSHIRTS (the guys in the pact that you have to keep alive) are still aggro’d on while the rest of the named NPC’s in pact who don’t count, are already moving up b/c they weren’t aggro’d on those Vets. Thus a bunch of Nobles or other Vet Acolytes are triggered to spawn early or in weird places and they’ll instantly wipe the rest of the pact.

The only possible counter to this sort of off-timed spawning, would probably require lots of people in the Zerg to all be running weapons with Pulls & Knockbacks to MOVE those Veterans up the slope and back to the center forcing the Pact Redshirts to follow those Vets and be moved away from more dangerous spawns. Also constantly dropping Reflects & Healing Fields underneath all of the Pact redshirts is crucial (b/c normal heals just have a 5-player cap & apply to PLAYERS first, not NPC’s or Pets). This is an impossible expectation by the way in Zergs b/c there are just so many BAD rangers who mindlessly spam PointBlank Shot without actually changing their own positioning first. (this is true of MOST mmo games with Knockback attacks in them).

The event is simple. My guild runs it all the time with about 20 people and its been months since we last lost. You just have to know what you are doing, have a competent commander calling out the moves and competent people responding to them. The event is not designed like the other temples, where you can just mindlessly ballyhoo up it. You have to strategize, time things, and execute. Also, 8 attempts? Really? Were you trying to do it with just 1 invasion each time? 20-25 people can get all 3 invasion in easily and then you have to be just god aweful bad to fail.

Are you saying that having all 3 arrive at the same time, Increases the Health Pools or Toughness of each REDSHIRT that’s in the Escort? B/c if all it does is increase the Quantity of Pact NPC’s along for the ride, then that doesn’t matter because they will all still get wiped out just as quickly when Nobles & Carriers are allowed anywhere near them. …Just double checking …b/c the rest your post HORRIBLY OVERSIMPLIFIES the entire encounter and isn’t believable unless you had video of your methods to back it up.

I doubt it has anything to do with the Texture blinn values and intensity. Gw1 weapons could be dyed and there was thousands upon thousands of different versions of those. Infact they could simply write a program that converts every single TGA/PNG into a multi alpha grayscale if they wanted to …even preserving bumpmapping. I think they just wanted the weapons to have much more of a … “collector” purpose to them. Making some more desirable or less desirable to different people that wouldn’t be the case if they could be dyed

just no… that ship has …

.

whatever…just get go somewhere else … no one’s gonna miss that attitude b/c the people who usually say it, are always the LAST ones to want to play the Monk or the “Battery” or or Taxi anything besides Nuker… Maybe a few were Tank-hards, but are any of them REAL SUPPORT players? No, They’re a buncha Liars. They were the only Nukers or Spikers and that made them feel special, but now everyone else around them is a nuker or spiker too and they can’t stand sharing. Now I Mained Monk… but I don’t ever want to see that role come back and be required here. There’s a million other ways to make your Build actually matter in dungeon encounters besides having some Wetnurse be required for it. Anet just needs to build those encounters, then everyone else will see it too.

PS: My Guardian has 1200 Healing. Knowing that that was a complete waste of resources and no one actually wants him for that, is probably the most Liberating feeling this game gave me since the first time I pressed SPACE BAR and gained Vertical momentum…

Most female gamers in the guild I’m in also play Lights. …& a few mediums.
They’re no wilting flowers or “casuals” either, most of them PvP a lot more than I do.
Some even roll bishy Male characters…

I have no theory what-so-ever for why this is beyond pure aesthetics. But it is consistent with most other female gamers I knew from Gw1 as well as TF2 (who usually played Pyro, Sniper, & especially Spy along with one who only played scout…) None of these are easy classes to play. Warrior is the easiest class in this game to play well for example… (atleast in PvE) …so I’m pretty sure there’s not much consideration for ease, convenience, or skill even though there is wide differences in skill levels between various female gamers and they can’t be generalized one way or another.

Male gamers obviously do tend to flock to whatever is easiest to achieve Maximum performance on or to compensate on for various shortcoming elsewhere….

(Disclaimer: there are always a few exceptions like 3 or 4 females I knew who ONLY played Heavy/Soldier. Meanwhile None of my 3 female characters are “cute” & “sexy” …in fact, each one is more domineering or aggressive than my 2 male characters combined and inspired by IRL females I knew)

Maybe yours is just Bugged??…

Anyone else find this little footnote ironic?

Supply and Demand… if there was less Demmand for materials to Power-Level alts, and faster leveling through other means that created more Fine Materials… then there would be higher demand for dedicated crafters to actually make the Gear for them, along with more crafting supplies in general with which to make that gear.

…Though I think another thing that would help a LOT, is if various Karma or Heart vendors sold Fine “Blue” Mats and “Karma Skin” Gear Recipes for Karma instead of the fully built Green Masterworks they currently sell. That would stimulate crafting without penalizing first-time players. …and get people to be more social in general seeking out D.E.’s instead of hiding themselves away in some forgotten corner of the world just b/c it had the best Blood/Scales farming circuit…

And then 100g in Runestones too… plus a bunch of other expensive crap I’m forgetting.

And the biggest complaint here is having to run Catacombs 8 times for 500 lousy tokens?
I’ve already run Cats 20+ times just for Monk Runes & a Shortbow I almost NEVER USE.

I mean .. okay he makes a few good points about just needing Anet to LISTEN to us. Especially when it comes to huge Bugs that seem to take them weeks or months to fix when we already KNOW that Anet can completely recode & fix most problems in a couple days if it’s something they obviously CARE ABOUT (Like the Promenade Giant being farmed…they patched that sucker instantly almost).

We could definitely go for them listening to us when we say that most of the Boss encounters & Trash Elite mobs are just plain boring mindless DPS tests and we need more engagement there.

We’lll definitely need to them listen to us after Aug 6th to adjust their once-a-day Gold rewards for Path lengths b/c we all know they’re going to be off the mark there no matter how much Datamining they did before hand…

And we could definitely use better Difficulty scaling in them. Or atleast in Story mode… ..but after that point… ugh … Not really helping “Our” cause bro

Island Control/Karka Queen & Settler's Gear

in Dynamic Events

ilr.9675

Hope hangs on champion loot fixing people’s motivation to do that world boss along with others. As it stands, it’s far too time-consuming and difficult for the lousy 2 rares reward it gives. Can easily do at least 3 other world bosses in that time.

Nah the problem is that the camps don’t STAY held like Temples do.

I was in the one by the Queen we had just cleared back out after killing the Queen 90 seconds ago, and I got exactly 30 second in which to look through that Merch’s Settler’s gear before it went right back into contested again and next thing I know there’s 30 crazed Karka’s rolling right over us again. ….Who’s bright Idea was that one? You’d have to really HATE your players as a Dungeon Master to ever pull some kitten move like that in most RPG games. And here’s the one billed more as “Casual friendly / No grind” than any other …. haha good joke.

_

…as for Servers that do it daily…
NSP almost always does it around 7pm PST…. give or take 20-30 minutes. B/c That’s all dependent on how quick we get through Balthazar right before that. So if you wanna catch it at night, then you have to show up in Malchor’s & Straights and look for all the Commander Tags and follow them till they’re done with Balthazar & Eye. Then they immediately all move to Southsun after that. So you’d need to be able to set aside a whole hour for a guaranteed clear. Anyone who can’t set aside an hour and let another group do all the work for them, should probably keep that to themselves b/c they’d just sound entitled as all hell if that was still too much of a burdern for them

And if you’re not an experienced player…
… who doesn’t know exactly where to stand every few minutes, then stay out of our way please. The LAST THING we need is a bunch of ranged Zerker idiots standing right on top of the NPC escort or our Mid/Backline support attracting aggro and shadowsteps & Poisonblobs right to the last place we could possibly want it. …if you’re melee, that’s different, feel free to jump in, YOLO like it’s 4th of July b/c atleast we know you’re doing decent damage and keeping the mobs busy where we want them kept.

Sometimes the escort will just fail completely on its own from what I’ve seen a few times. As in we actually had MORE people there… and we did everything exactly the way we always do it. Except sometimes the Aggro just randomly locks onto the pact who aren’t even in range, and they get hit by this Looping Shadowstep or something. …this happened today & I rewatched this video a dozen times to figure out what was different in it:

http://youtu.be/F-tR5U29Xms

…I’ll be danged if I could figure out what it was. Culling basically makes it impossible to even find out I guess, but I still think it comes right down to the AI just being needlessly random and ignoring 20 or 30 players closer to it in order to insta-gib the Pact…

I thought King King was a nice touch during Temple of Lyssa event. That kept people on the move and on alert.

Not really :\ …. whenever I’m there, I just intercept him from behind and dodge back and forth at range evading all his boulders so he never gets close enough to the Temple to actually AOE anyone. …yeah I have to burn a Truffle Meat Stew to do it… but if 1 person can tie up the biggest threat there by themselves then I wouldn’t call it the best of examples. …having to have people actually guard the Exterior shrines around it was actually a better design IMO. …I think even the average player would have no problem keeping the Huge Pink Monkey busy so long as they had a Buddy who was constantly chopping down the nearby Risen Trebs.

You are either badly trying to troll people, or have never done the personal story/dungeon’s story (finishing with Arah story mode). Assuming you have done Arah story mode and at least somewhat paid attention, you will then recall that once your party and the pact repair the airship to usable condition again, one of the cast off lines jam (holding the airship to the ground). Logan chose to stay behind on the ground to cut the cast off line and free the airship, against the objections of Eir.
Later you re-meet up with Logan at the Pact Flag ship, The Glory of Tyria, who was able to escape the risen and join up with the flagship. So saying that Logan did nothing in the fight against Zhaitan is just false.

No I’m pretty sure you’re the one trolling at this point

The ONLY reason to switch to a ranged weapon… ever… is to briefly use it’s CC skills then switch back to melee in order to actually Kill whatever you’re fighting in WvW or D.E.’s.

I run up and melee all the World Bosses on my Ranger, I don’t even give a kitten b/c I’ll out-regen Jormag’s stacks of Corruption like they were hardly even there. Wanna kill Lupi in less than 5 minutes? Melee. Want to be the fastest moving Roamer? Melee. I wouldn’t call it shallow. Homogenized? Sure. But not shallow.

Thief is definitely not Homogenized… And guardian (when it comes to soloing dungeons) stands out pretty well too while also being second best Endgame support class after Mesmer. This is unfortunately the realities of Asymmetrical balance though. In order for something to feel different, it has to basically be imbalanced and allow for great degrees of Success in one direction and Epic Failure in another.

Easily the WORST class in this regard is Ranger for dozens of obvious reasons.
…Hence why Ranger needs to regain those “Tracking” skills it had in Alpha and also get a lot more Group-support skills for ALL of its pets… In other words, much like in Gw1, the irony is that they have to further imbalance things to make them feel more balanced.

in Queen's Jubilee

Not getting the feeling that English is the OP’s first language so this is difficult to both interpret and answer…

BUT, there’s already tons of agreement in the Dungeon forums that skipping is simply the most efficient way to get to the INTERESTING FIGHTS (or the Tokens) .. or in COE’s case, the Chests with possible Charged Cores that took the least time to get…

Dungeons simply don’t provide better drop rates than most Open world content can provide. That is why their mobs are usually skipped. ESPECIALLY Silver/Elite Rank Mobs. IoW: Basically no one is even in the dungeon for “farming”. They’re in it for the same reason some people kept doing Sanctum Sprint even after getting first place. They want to get the best time, or the most artificially difficult small format PvE fight they can find. The only exception to this in general was COF which will no longer have that huge Gold gaining leverage to it.

So, Unless more of the skippable champions have much greter drop rates, they will continue to be skipped shortly after the Aug 6th update.

And legendary mobs will indeed also get champion loot rewards.

Is there some sort of limit or timer? Otherwise nobody will upgrade or defend anything anymore and zergs going in a circle around the maps flipping towers will be the norm.

This is already the case. Upgrades and defending hinder the karma train.

^this
WvW Meta is self-destructive and needs real overhauls (not titles and 1% bonuses)

  • one possible solution: when players guarding a camp or tower are greatly outnumbered, they also become Champions themselves and drop this loot if they managed to kill some opponents before eventually being defeated.

Why doesn't Anet Close Low End Servers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

That way they could spread the population evenly in all areas.

This is the main reason nothing was merged though…

Most people don’t seem to WANT TO spread out. Even on the lowest pop servers there’s been Overflows in LA & Queensdale. In WvW… there will be 2 borderlands with no one from those servers on it, and then one single Garrison with EVERYONE at it being a completely useless_ _boring Zerg. This goes double for COF instances this past month as well. People don’t want to spread out because there’s nothing beneficial in them doing it apparently. Everything is just designed so short-sighted.

What needs to happen instead atleast with PvE, is some of the things they’re doing already (shutting down GoldFarmed Dungeons). But also things they haven’t commented on like just getting RID of the separate Server splits when it comes to mid-level PvE areas and bringing back the “Districting” pulldown bar we had in Gw1 so people can just choose between a EU or NA or Overflow district when in those Zones.

WvW? The whole kitten thing was broken from the start and adding some silly Titles to grind for in it wasn’t going to fix a BROKEN META. They have to get serious about actually balancing “Blobbing” and quit screwing around these sPvP tourneys that no one’s watching. As bad as WvW is, it still has 10x the participants every day that sPvP does and 100x the potential right now. It’s where former PvP’ers from the first game go to do GvG. … It needs a dramatic shift away from Zerging-taking-all. …even if it came down to them making locally outnumbered players into Champions & Legendary rank threats, they need to do it… Then being on the lowest pop servers would start giving the better players the kinds of advantages needed to shift the meta.

In this topic, it doesn’t appear people give much prestige to those who own Legendary weapons… I wonder if said owners will accept that (and so that they effectively wasted their time, if their goal was sorely status), or if they will enter denial mode.

I don’t like any of their skins, I wouldn’t get them even if they had higher stats.
…and yeah Aesthetics are a lot more important to me than stats are.

What is the point in getting end game gear?

Dueling wins would mean even less than a Legendary if you showed them off.

The Game will NEVER be balanced for 1v1’s with every single class & traitline in mind.
They could potentially even the playing field on gaining Legendaries once they add Scav hunt and * maybe * do something about how much faster Flipping secures those resources than every other farming activity combined. (but atleast that’s not a class imbalance). Dueling on the other hand, will never be balanced unless it’s Polymock.

So why aoe cap?

If true, that just means you have badly coded engine. I don’t see what damage calculations have to do with displaying things in fancy graphics, or text, as that is mainly client side. Also, how do you think DAOC managed to have no AOE cap, on Pentium 3 servers (it was not text based, mind you)

DAOC didn’t have up to 25 arrays of Conditions per stack per Condition type per player in Range … with extra particles & combos on top :p

(they really need to find a way to average it… so that it can be raised to 255 stacks on Temple Bosses and other huge D.E. Events)

august 6 reducing skill lag?

I believe it could reduce it to a small (in some cases very small) degree…

Simply because the Server has to WAIT additional ticks and listen for responses longer and basically throttle itself everytime its Clients are lagging as well. This isn’t like Cable TV. The server doesn’t just “1 way street” the information to you, it expects a response on some of these more complicated variables that aren’t solely tied to your character’s positioning. People tend to forget that there’s also security protocols running in the background to authenticate the data as well.

Time to sell tier 6 fine mats?

I don’t think I was “trying” anything. Was just thinking that if all champions will be dropping tier 6 mats, and if people start farming DE’s like back when this game started, then there would be a “flood” of tier 6 mats like when GW2 first came out.

You’re going to need a source to quote then first… They make no real promises when it comes to rewards. We had to find that out the hard way when it came to the first “patch” for Dungeon chests & the Bosses guarding them (nothing of value was added). There’s nothing currently implying that we’ll get more “Fine” mats, only “Rare” Mats from them… again… new stuff for account based crafting

However, like other loot rewards if you’re a high level player in a lower level area there is a chance you’ll receive rewards based on your actual level rather than the area you are in each time they drop.

*cringe*

Welp GG... Was really hoping this might breath some life back into Maelstrom & Straits & a few other places. NvM... Atleast we get BETTER odds in dungeons right? .... RIGHT??? Pleeeease tell me the probabilities are atleast higher for dungeon champs where you’re locked at 5 players total...

I’ve noticed that barrage is a massive agro magnet, also dungeons seem to attract everything.

Well when Escorting the Pact to Balthazar, I actually count on this a great deal…
(by Standing far AWAY from the Pact redshirts so all the nobles Blink to me instead).

I’ve seen it pull aggro off Engineers too which is amazing. The only thing it can’t seem to pull aggro off is other rangers :p (and again: Staff Guardians)

Just a reminder about where we were...

Hey I got another one….
Why do we have to pay for our Traits TWICE?

Think about this a minute… Every other class (except Necro maybe) … gets their entire build in one convenient line of traits. But we have a big portion of our Damage & Survival tied to the Pet.. which we have to use up our 30 + 30 + 10 available traits on at some point just to modify the pet at all… We can’t for instance, take our “sword or bow attacks recharge faster” Trait and get faster pet skill recharges at the same time.

What’s up with that? If almost half of our damage is in the darn pet, then why do we only get 70 Trait points to play with?? Shouldn’t we 40% more trait points than other classes since we’d literally have to spend 40% more just to get the same total of cohesive trait synergies all other classes get?

I’m not done with the Stealth Detection issue by the way.
There’s tons of potential for it to be useful in Dungeons too against new Mob types…
