I’ve come to the conclusion that people who complain like that is actually people who don’t know how to play. Seriously.
Hi,
conjure earth shield skill 5 is fority 3s time duration 30s recharge, you become invulnerable, prevents capture points, you stay 3s being safe and can’t do anything
You can in fact use everything that’s instant,switching attunements,using instant utility skills without breakin the channel. The Conjure Earth Shield is very useful at least in an offensive build.
Shield #2: Block that lasts for 2 1/4 seconds. Blocks every ranged attack during that channel but only blocks 1 melee attack or w/e else. Also,if you succesfully block an attack(s) the recharge is halved to 4 seconds.
Shield #3: This is a 2 second AOE daze with a 600 range on a 12 second cooldown. This is invaluable in an 1v1 situation. If not for a daze/gap closer use it to get some distance from that pesky melee dude.
Shield #4: Unblockable AOE pull with a pull range of 400 and a range of 600. Pulls 3 foes and you get 2 second protection for each foe pulled. That’s 33% less dmg from 2-6 seconds.
Shield #5: 3 second invulnerability. And with the added effect that everything that’s inside that shield with you also becomes invulnerable.
Did a fun build with another ele a while back. We both used Ice Bow and Earth Shield. He used IB #4 and I combined that with ES #5 to secure the channel and then we switched and did it again lol.
But nevertheless imo this is a good choice (if not better) than any other utility skill we have atm for an offensive use. Especially if combined with focus. 7 sec invulnerability in a purely balls to the walls build? Yes please. Any day.

Why would you not play meta builds? Have fun being mediocre forever I guess.
The only reason that the meta builds is the only “viable” way to play is imo because all the 4 other meta builds that all strengthen each other. If you create one non meta build within a team of 4 meta builds you’ll probably be “mediocre” as you say.
But what if every player in the team created new builds that were not meta but,as the meta,strengthen and support each other?

and to the OP:
I never play meta,I create my own builds. I’ll think ahead of what I might face and build towards that. Since most of the people use meta builds i’ts incredibly easy to predict the opponent and build against them.
Im bored, anyone have unique or new builds i could test? this is for spvp btw.
Why don’t you create something for yourself? It’ll probably be unique and new,like you want

2. Iv only run sw/focus and GS as a lockdown, i saw another mesmer who was able to place the warding line and pull people into his freshly casted phantasm ( #5 on focus warden i think?) as part of a full burst and i pulled it off one or two times today but not definitely. is there any trick to telling where your line will pull people to?
The focus pull will pull any enemy towards it’s center. If you have a curtain down in front of you,and an enemy behind the curtain,it will pull the enemy towards ypu.too the center. If the enemy is in front of the focus it’ll pull him/her backwards towards it center.
What I usually do to burst down with the Ispinrightround phantasm is to make sure the target is immobilized. Too make the most out of the phantasm though you should interrupt BEFORE you’re done casting the Iwarden. I usually interrupt during the casting of the Iwarden with a mantra or the focus pull. Then when they’re immobilized and taking damage I follow up with another interrupt,to immob. if possible. If it’s not possible to get of a second interrupt I just put some extra immob. down with my sword 3.
Oh,if you’re planning to interrupt with the curtain and then spawn Iwarden you should always pull BEFORE the Iwarden cast ends. Or else it will spawn at the location where you pulled the enemy from. Some practice and you’ll get used to it :P

It has to hit 3 times,indeed,but whereas a thief’s backstab only hits once you hit THREE times. You can negate a thief’s backstab,but alot harder negating all three shatters. Shatter is also AOE,a thieves backstab is not. A shatter can remove boons on hit (1 removed boon per illusion shattered,also AOE), a thief’s backstab does not.
all the while you’re either kiting around with the glassiest stats ingame
Every mesmer has a health pool of around 19k health,a thief only has around 13k on average. I’m aware they have medium armor,thus slightly better stats, but they mostly have to choose on what they want to spend their initiative on,defense or offense.
(and dont give me that “thieves have to do that too” argument because you and i both know well enough that thieves have more than enough mobility and stealth to get away from anything)

In fact,there’s a defensive skill on almost every weapon we have,plus 2 shatters which is defensive,and lots of utilities.We are glass,but we have lots of defensive mechanisms/skills to make up for that. And,ofc,there’s the dodge button everyone can learn to use,at the right times,that is.
Mesmer isn’t sub-par to any class,no class is sub par to anyone. Sure,if you use META builds which everyone knows the “rotation” on and can counter easily you’ll feel quite sub-par but believe me,professions are what YOU make of them.

Comparing backstab to shatter? LOL. I’m telling you that while you can negate the whole 6k BS from a thief, it’s alot harder to negate all the damage from the shatters,maybe you’ll hit 1/4 or 2/4 or even 3/4,meaning you’ll still deal good damage. I was trying to prove a point here.

I would not get to this pointless debate with you,you should know that shatter mesmer deliver spike so fast(to be effective),almost as backstab so one dodge covers all shatters in most cases and if not,dmg is 2k at most.if the clones are far away you may never hit with them since they can be killed before that or just too far away.
It’s actually a matter of positioning,sometimes bursting ASAP might be stupid.
I play thief alot,and when I see mesmer charge me with gs to melee range I excpect a shatter,or when he immoblize me with sword,I excpect a shatter,all the times they did it,I Dodged and got almost no dmg.

-thief have boonstrips aswell-most of them uses 6 on trickery.and some uses s/d weaponset aswell.
-backstab is easier to land and have 4 sec cooldown while mindwrack have 10sec cooldown(if you spec for it)and need to build up clones.

-Okay,thieves have boon strips as well,on the second attack of the sword 3 chain. 1 boon,not AOE,and boon strip on steal every 19 second or so only if you have the steal traits in the trickery line.
-4 second cooldown,not gonna’ argue with that,but to even backstab you need to position yourself,and almost always use CnD which costs 6 ini. If you spam CnD,which I believe is not efficient at all. Thus giving the backstab a “longer” cooldown.

The same person playing different class will see how class gap exist and no amount of skill can gap that. So the conclusion is balance issues. And yes it is impossible to have perfect balance but some class is just over the roof atm

imo it’s already balanced,there are stat differences and skill differences but that’s because their all unique professions. If you want to feel the backstabs of a thief you go for a thief,not a mesmer.

gonna have to agree to an extent. (this is all in regards to pvp/tpvp/spvp/hotjoin)
-i don’t use phantasm builds because i don’t like phantasms doing all the work and its only superior in duels
- condi builds got nerfed and condi meta is for hoes regardless
– condi shatter is a fad; it’s fun for now, but people will catch on to how simple a counter it is like all the other condi builds
- PU is kittenty
- shatter is the only fun i have as a memser, and that is considerably underpowered compared to bursts other professions have.

i know its a risk:reward ratio, but there are much more favorable ratios with other professions compared to mesmer.
After countless try and error found mesmer to be quite sub-par compare to other class.It is just terrible to play in PvP. Difficulty is extremely high. Dps rather low and armour paper thin. Maybe i m doing it wrong. Pve is still ok but in PvP it is really that hard to play.
I use double ranged shatter. Similar to what metabattle says though, I tend to get hard countered by most thieves.
Metabattle is the keyword here.
Change build.
If they added new game mode different to conquest the following would happen:
Conquest
1. Already low soloq / teamq player pool would be cut by half
2. Several will rage quit because even worse match ups and longer queue times
3. Existing tournaments will collaps because not enough playersNew mode xyz
1. Class balance is horrible in the new game mode
2. players will not wait for 2 years for New mode xyz balance to build up
3. Players quit pvp> Only bad options > (hopefully) not going to happen.
1. Make the game mode available to tourneys,,,and btw,tourneys already have only a handful of players.

We already have Capture the Flag…sort of though. But it’s not even recognized officially as a game mode for esports. Why? And where’s the official support for 1v1,2v2 and 3v3 arena styled deathmatches?
People are just too proud to accept faillure… Especially when they do not recognize a build, they will insult people, tell them they run cheese, and basically calling them noobs over and over again – but by this you have won both the match and the game…
On META builds though, people tend to forget that they originate from somewhere… Before ToL #1, the only Axe warrior I knew was a guildmate of mine – but when ROM played an Axe build, people suddenly jumped on it… Same for S/D Thieves which were considered a 1v1 build only, and last but not least Mesmers in general since they were considered suboptimal
Sometimes you need to cast aside as to what is familiar and explore the world beyond the META – only then will you inspire people to run different setups and in turn inspire a larger crowd… There will always be suboptimal builds, sure, but that does not mean everything is set in stone

That is true,I do run that specific trait. However,there’s several other factors to count for as well,skill,experience and build style.
All I wanted was to have a couple of small duels for the fun of it,and for the experience buuuuuut clearly since he thought I played a mantra build (LOL) he completely blew it off because it wasn’t necessary,he would win no matter what. facepalm
So I was in SoloQ and the enemy had this mesmer whom which I fought a couple of times,never seen him before in my life,ever. A couple of fights is all we had. Some he won,some I won. Pictures below following the conversation after the SoloQ match.
Is this what a lot of the pvp players have become? Is this the message “top pvp” players gives us by playing “META”,unintentionally or intentionally? Are there no gleams of sunlight escaping through the cracks in the META mountain? Has META forever embraced us in it’s veiling,comforting,everlasting darkness?

I played my MtD build and Spirit Ranger build lately and ive been called cheese.
So,. What if for example:
Pyro and I played the same MtD build that was called cheese. But he uses it way better than me, so does that mean that he will be a different level of cheese then?

Soooooo much PU hate…kitten. I sincerely kitten you all PU haters. You don’t HAVE to go full on stealth build,you don’t HAVE to go full on condi build with a freakin’ PU trait. I haven’t thought up something at this moment but I’m pretty sure you can mix in some shatter traits WITH the PU trait,or maybe some interrupt traits combined with the PU TRAIT?
Is it only me,or does every kittening player automatically thinks that if anyone PLAYS PU they HAVE to have THAT trait and THOSE traits? Because certainly,if one is playing a PU mesmer they HAVE to have some “meta” PU build with THOSE predefined traits which everyone seems to think PU involves.
TBH,the OP asked if playing PU makes him a scumbag…I say no. To my understanding he speaks of one trait. Which gives him boons during stealth. If it DOES make him a scumbag let’s all just head over to the guardian forums and bash on the guards using traits which grants them boons. Or the thief using stealth. Or the necro using fear. Why is that? We already have rampager stats in pvp, and full glass builds ain’t excactly anything new :P “Extremely overpowered” is kind of exaggerating imo .
See, I run a Shout-based Altruistic Healing Build in sPvP. If I face a team with a lot of Rangers/Engineers (or a combination of Rangers, Warriors, Engineers, Thieves…) I don’t swap out my Focus for a Shield, I swap out “Stand Your Ground!” for Wall of Reflection and take Master of Consecration in favor of Justice is Blind. Taking the Shield is more of a sacrifice than losing out on a very important utility skill and an extra blind.
And of course communication and a good team makes the Shield better. Communication and a good team makes everything better.
But….but…..shield
Shield 4 heals for a nice amount with AH if you hit 3+ players with it ;O Why not take shield AND utilities?…

I frequently feel I’m the only player who actually likes the Shield, so thanks for your comment.
The Shield isn’t as horrible as people make it out to be, but that doesn’t make it any good. Its skills don’t make it into an unplayable nightmare, but they are substandard.
Shield of Judgment is worse than “Hold the Line!” and utilities have a lower opportunity cost than weapons.
Shield of Absorption has it’s use, but it’s buggy and the cooldown is way to long compared to it’s effect. It’s moderately useful against ranged attacks, but not more so than Wall of Reflection. It locks you down and the secondary effect is hard to time if you want to get the full effect of this skill. The knockback is really useful though, but not enough to justify the whole skill.
Long story short, the Shield is less effective than pretty much all of the alternatives.
It’s true that some utilities works better compared to the shield skills,but hey,if you use the shield,you have a team,you’re on ts,then you can time the shield 5 with ease. And considering the power rangers who uses that rapid fire thing that’s no problem,you’ll learn to block 2,8/3 of that skill :P
Ever since the Rapid Fire “buff” it’s alot easier to counter the whole thing with shield 5
And not to mention that if you use the shield instead of those utilities,you suddenly have freed up 2 slots for some other useful utilities
Anyway,I like it,I love it,I’ll use it no matter what.
Oh and the shield trait is also worth a mention :P

It might be they have next to zero cleanses,or maybe they do cleanse it but you re apply them too fast. Also,if they have only condi removal traits that work like every 10 second you won’t generally notice it and especially not when you’re on a condi build lol

I’ve only read the first post and I haven’t bothered reading the ones after that. Though I’ll tell you this my fellow Corpse; you are not the only one who have thought of this
I was bored some time ago,I had 3 necros in my TeamQ. I said to myself this is never going to work,never,that this would be a guaranteed loss. I proved myself wrong,we won. So I thought,okay,3 necros was awesome,how about 5? 5 players with that extra HP pool. 5 players with the fear condition. 5 players with boon removals and awesome conditions.
Success.
Our team wasn’t just thrown together though,it wasn’t some casual pick up necros,this was people I knew,who had played necro before,who was kind of experienced with the class in pvp. I was the tank (yes,you read that right,it’s insane how tanky a necromancer actually can be), we had 1 MM,1 condition (not with your kitten full of fears though,just conditions) and 2 power necros with our ultimate damaging tool,the kittening Lich. We won 8 out of 10 matches in a row.
5 necros isn’t as stupid as it sounds as long you know the person can play the class,you have TS or something else to communicate with (it is possible doing this without ts but considering you’re 5 necros it can be a bit tough) and we knew each other.
I run 5 man necro teams whenever I want to mess a little bit with my enemy team xD
Every team we came across had something to say about our Walking Dead team,some were surprised,some laughed and there’s always these people that can’t do anything creative besides META who said we’d lose this match.
We proved them wrong.
Running 5 corpses can certainly be viable,and it certainly is fun
I’m trying to pull together people who shares my idea like you guys,and therefore I’ve created “Penta Nec (DOOM)”. The thought is that it’ll just be a guild where you can meet up with fellow necros,talk about the class,share stuff you’d like others to know,and of course,have a reliable pool of people you can pick from who actually wants to go full on necromantic fury on the enemie’s kittens. Because let me tell you,there’s not alot of us!
This is by no means a full on rep guild or a serious guild for that matter (we have ofc. a fitting necromancer emblem) it’s just as I said,something to pick from,share thoughts and opinions!

The whole Teleport System is also already P2W .. you pay to be faster at your target.
This teleport system is on a massive cooldown,8 hours and 1 hour. Have you ever heard about waypoints? They are these special thingys which teleport you everywhere in the world,and if your friend isn’t excactly on the point,it’ll take you maybe 5 minutes max to get to him.
If not they have removed waypoints in the chinese version?….

As the topic suggests,is it possible to somehow get the back banner onto a character which is under lvl 80?

If you were killing Orr mobs in straits, then obviously you would be hit with DR shortly.
I was hitting it down in Lornar’s Pass,most south west waypoint. Down in that pirate village,going from the WP up till’ almost between the two pirate villages then WP’ing back again
Of course it didn’t hit me at that time that the DR would come as swift and silent as a ninja.
But I didn’t know about the rested mob bonus O___O
So doing this would actually take a bit of planning,locating suitable areas where you could do some circles or spin some eight’s (lol) in a map with not that far of a gap between the mobs. And of course,you would need slayer potions for every mob you’ll come across :P

Okay,so I was thinking about going for a new levelling method which involves a kitten load of boosters.
So one of these boosters,“the killstreak booster” which gives you 100% xp from kills if you get a kill within 30 sec, are kind of the main ingredient in this way of levelling.
Now,I stocked up on boosters,guild,xp booster,food,slayer potion and of course the killstreak booster.
But what I didn’t think about at that time was the Diminishing Returns. After 15 freakin’ minutes it kicked in. 15 minutes.
Before this DR effect kicked in I could gladly watch the xp rolling in with the added bonuses.
After the effect kicked in I could gladly see less than half of what I used to get rolling in.
Why,Anet,why do you have a killstreak booster if you can’t effectively use it for more than 15 kittening minutes? Why don’t you just remove it? There’s no place for that kind of booster in a game with Diminishing Returns? Perhaps even the xp boosters.
Why do I want to level up this way you ask,instead of going for the infamous Queensdale “Choo Choo”,or for regular exploring,crafting,dungeons,spvp and wvw?
Simply because after over 1 year of playing the game I wanted to try something new.
I guess a bit of nostalgia was also a major factor in choosing to level up this way.
So,why?
I’m sexy and I know it(LMFAO) with the new quaggan finisher as a twist to it!

I do not in any way believe I am the voice of the community though I know that a lot of us from the previous GW game would love to see capes make it into GW2,in all kinds of different shapes, sizes and colors! Put them up on the gem store and I will gladly pay for it as I assume others will as well.
And for those of you who don’t want capes in the game,what if I told you that if they added capes in the game you wouldn’t HAVE to get one?
