Well, I dunno…I’m 51 years old and my main character is my engineer, I’ve never had any problems playing her. Of course, that may in large part be because I use my flamethrower kit the majority of the time and all you have to do with that one is, most of the time, hammer 1 to barbecue your opposition. I also do well with Mesmer greatsword.

oh no, let them crash, the joy of ppl whining about a price drop is like music through my ears.
the only ones who worry about a price drop are the ones who want to sell them, the ones who want to buy them are only seeing this as good news.

Actually, any player who wants to craft their legendaries in a more exciting and fun way see this as good news. Amassing gold is the ultimate boring stuff to acquire a precursor.

That’s true, and I say this as someone who does have enough gold – if I’m willing to nearly empty out my treasury :P – to buy precursors for greatsword and rifle.

if we speak about bug
Treasure Hunter -> Royal Signet of Doric infused don’t work.

As mentioned above:

Please report issues and bugs in the game. I cannot tell you how much an in-game report helps us, because that kind of report provides a lot of back-end information that makes it possible to replicate the bug, where posting on a forum does not give the devs the same level of detail.

If you cannot report in the game, please post on the Bugs Forum with as many details as you can provide. If you have done so, thank you. And here’s a tip: It’s best to have separate threads for bugs, and not tag new bug reports on a thread about a different issue. Thanks for understanding.

Thank you very much for all information you gave us. We really need to know what you devs knows about the state of the game in order to be able to help you. I can perfectly understand that a rare and hard to reproduce bug is easier to spot with an ingame report.

But What about the Infused Royal Doric signet which doesn’t count the treasure hunter collection ? Any player has the exact same issue, it’s not a rare bug, it’s a common feature. How could it be helpfull to your devs to have an ingame report about that ? You just have to launch your game and see it by yourself.

If we better understand how you work, you may be more helpfull, but right now, I just don’t understand why you need an ingame report about that. Forum seems a better place to me.

My own guess: Game code. The in-game bug reports, almost certainly, include the snippets of the game’s code that control the bugged thing in question. With that data to hand, the programmers can look at it and see where it’s broken or not properly written. Forum reports, naturally, don’t contain game code, so that crucial piece of the puzzle is missing.

The Egg's destination theories

You know, there’s something to this. Ventari’s Refuge was located in the Ettin’s Back region, which is to the west of Dry Top. The GW2/GW1 map overlays I can find haven’t been updated with the new Silverwastes (which pretty apparently used to be the Silverwood) and Dry Top maps, but I think that’s the layout, and unless I miss my guess we haven’t found the site of Ventari’s old camp yet because it’s to the west of the currently explorable terrain.

Bloodstone Fen is also in currently nonexplorable terrain, pretty much due west of the Silverwastes, and so is Magus Falls, which is roughly southwest of Dry Top. It seems pretty likely that it’s those areas that will be opened up in Heart of Thorns, so if Caithe was heading west to try to find the descendants of Ventari’s tribe, then we’ll very likely be following her into those regions. My instincts say, by the way, that either Mordremoth is based in Magus Falls or the sylvari who are directly under his control (remember the earlier speculation about a second sylvari community in the Maguuma Wastes?) have their city there – that area has a circular pattern which looks like the base layout of most of the race home cities.

I’m glad to see the word is being spread about how actually to do things right at Copper. Linsey Murdock was in the Silverwastes a few days ago, and when people were talking about Copper, that’s when she told us all – which she got direct from the designer of the encounter – that AOE isn’t the problem, kiting the bubbles (and the adds) is. I’ve been trying to spread the word ever since, and I think people are already starting to get the idea.

Kicking all Sylvari from my parties

joe.7684

I mainly play Human or Norn characters, and in light of these news, I will stand side by side with any Sylvari who tries to defy the control of Mordremoth. They’ve been successful while the Pale Tree somehow protected them and have shown themselves as worthy allies all this time.

The moment they’re suddenly in trouble, we turn on them? I will be so godkitten angry if my character doesn’t take the side of Canach now, I demand that my character at the very least gets the choice whether or not to side with the Sylvari who still try to remain out of Mordremoth’s control.

As will I. I also play mainly human/Norn characters, and I’ve been appalled by some of the terrible things I’ve been reading in the sylvari threads the last couple of days, even if they were intended as jokes (some things you should never, ever joke about). I have a sylvari character, a ranger, that I really haven’t done anything with in two and a half years – she’s still only at level 20 and that mostly through the expenditure of tomes – but I’ve more than half a mind now to start seriously developing her, as my own little “take that” to the anti-sylvari racism – even if, again, mostly in jest – that I’ve had a bellyful of the last two days.

Maybe it is divine fire, which we now know is extraordinarily effective against Mordrem. Assuming that, it’s pretty obvious that that’s why Rytlock went into the Mists, to have his sword imbued with this power. Which raises the question, how did he know about it? Did he visit the Priory himself earlier on to consult with Ogden?

As for Magdaer and Sohothin, , we do know from the trailer that Rytlock is coming back from the Mists, presumably with his sword properly imbued – though at least at the outset, he’s not going to have a positive opinion of sylvari, to put it mildly. It could be that one of the main threads of upcoming player action in the Living Story/expansion will be to persuade Rytlock to put aside his distrust of sylvari in the same way that we got him and Logan to reconcile.

Not that this will be a lot of help, but I named my (human female) mesmer after my GW1 main, who was also a mesmer.

More to the point, I’d try to find a name that, as Crimson Clouds suggests, reminds of the traits of a GW mesmer. The patron goddess of mesmers is Lyssa, goddess of beauty and illusion, so you might look for a name that suggests those two traits, as well as charm, seductiveness and mystery.

I was expecting to be spending a lot of time in the Wintersday events this year, but as of this afternoon, I’ve completed all 11 of the achievements to get Adept Toymaker, 3 sets of orichalcum snowflake harvesting tools, the Skritta Claws mini (and selected the Toy Soldier mini from the final achievment chest), and frankly, I’m done with Wintersday except for the Grawnk event chain (which has the only reward left worth getting, the Star of Gratitude). Virtually all the loot you get from the presents is, put simply, junk, and not even good junk at that. I’m for the Silverwastes again, where the loot is actually worth something and where I still have a couple of thousand crests to harvest for the last two pieces of armor next month.

Wintersday this year has been a crashing letdown.

Joining a guild isn’t mandatory. You can find a guild with nice people who you like who fit your play style (not just any guild) or you can take a chance and spin the LFG roulette wheel. I’ve played a whole lot of MMOs and it certainly wasn’t better in WoW, or AoC or Rift than it is here.

It’s like saying it shouldn’t be mandatory to pay for electricity. Well it’s not. You can live without electricity. But you then have to deal with the consequence of your choices.

And yeah, finding the right guild might take some work. But when you do, the game improves drastically.

Seems to me, right now, you’re not having that much fun. I could be wrong.

That last sentence is the key one. The true point of this game is to have fun, and if you’re not having fun, then something needs to change.

I agree that having a guild isn’t mandatory, but being in a good, big, active guild is such a game enhancer that it might as well be. My own guild is the sort of guild you need, for instance – it’s got nearly 500 members and does literally everything, with every type of players. We have several players who go out and do dungeon paths almost every day and they never – I mean never – put restrictions on their guildies as to what sort of experience or gear they have to have; in fact, they often do runs to teach people new to them what it’s all about.

That’s not it either – the Masquerade outfit has an open skirt, this one doesn’t; also, the boots weren’t the Apprentice ones. Also, as far as I could see, the outfits looked exactly the same except for color. I suppose it’s possible that two female necromancers that I saw within the space of ten minutes could have come up with exactly the same mix-and-match outfit, but it doesn’t seem likely.

Look at it this way. Remember Halloween? Everyone, and I do mean everyone, was thundering through the Mad King’s Labyrinth to get all that lovely loot – and that includes yours truly, who took advantage of the heaven-sent opportunity to get 20-slot bags at a far cheaper price than I would ordinarily get them otherwise. I’m pretty certain that all the other events in the game slowed down because everyone was concentrating on Halloween stuff. Heck, people were even taking advantage of the opportunity to level up low-level characters in the Labyrinth – that’s what I did with my guardian.

Now, consider that Wintersday is going to have a lot of events, and there’s probably going to be at least one that delivers a lot of loot that you can only get this time of year. People are going to be concentrating on those events – I know I am, especially because my time is going to be limited (I’m away from home most of Christmas week and I don’t know how often I’m going to be able to log on from my laptop, so I’m basically going to have to concentrate on 12/16-12/22 and 12/28-1/13 to get the goodies). That’s going to cause a lot of other areas and events to be less populated. It was the same way in GW1 with Halloween and Wintersday.

Now, consider that people have been complaining the last week or so that the new JP in the Silverwastes is distracting other players and causing them to pay less attention to the fort-defense rounds. Don’t you think that this is going to be intensified during Wintersday? In that case, why release the last episode of this season of the LS during a period where people are going to be spending their (limited due to RL factors) game time largely on the Wintersday events?

Inflation pushes progression beyond reach

Ascended and legendaries are luxury items. It’s supposed to be expensive, and a long-term goal. That’s the reason why anet make it time-gated.

Take a look at ecto’s price instead. It’s relatively stable for the last 6 months. The gem price is maybe a bit out of control, compared to 2 years ago. But it happens to any gemstore/market store items in all mmos

I agree with this. Personally, I’m just not interested in participating in the ascended/legendary rat race, and if this means I have armor and weapons that aren’t quite as cool-looking/have stats as nice as those who are willing to put the unholy amount of time and gold into getting those items, so be it. There’s a lot of nice stuff in the Exotic category, and I do get Ascended chest drops every so often – I got Tequatl’s Hoard Monday evening and for me and my friends that do “reset Teq” with me every evening at 4 Pacific/7 Eastern (look for us at the South Hills defense position), it was a Great Big Deal™. And I get at least a couple of Exotic drops every week; in fact, this week so far I’ve gotten two high-value Exotic axes out of embroidered coin purses and heirloom seed pouches in the Silverwastes.

Speaking of the Silverwastes, I’ve spent a couple of hours almost every day since the area went live doing the events (defenses, rubble, breach, etc.) and farming lost bandit chests and bandit crests, as well as killing champions in the “in-between” periods since the latest patch and doing the Labyrinth whenever I have enough key shards or complete keys. Right now, I have over 500 loot bags in my engineer’s packs (there’s an ongoing in-joke with my guild leader where I make her get all twitchy-eyed by saving up those bags instead of opening them). I’ve made enough money from opening and selling from those bags to satisfy any reasonable person.

I make a decent amount of gold from TP dealings since I sell all my rare drops there, as well as Cabalist and (recently) many Berserker’s items and daggers, which seem to be in high demand currently. I’m also collecting mats and salvage items (which can get shockingly high prices on the TP) for sale. When I came back to the game after nearly a year’s absence in August, I had only 120g in my wallet; by Halloween, I had 650g (which I spent a big chunk of to equip several characters properly with Exotic armor and weapons as well as suitable runes, sigils and accessories), then got up to nearly 950g by Thanksgiving, went on a TP shopping spree, dropped to about 255g, and as of this morning I’m back up to 560g with decent prospects of cracking 700g again by Christmas. TL:DR – I’m not a big player like the guys who toss around legendaries casually on the TP, but I think I’ve done all right for myself over the last four months.

in Players Helping Players

IIRC, there’s a gate between Caledon Forest and Metrica Province (the Asura 1-15 starting zone) connecting the west-central part of the former and the northeast of the latter. The areas in northern Metrica are the higher-level ones, relatively speaking, including Thaumanova Reactor where a world boss is located, so if you go there you should be able to get the levels you need from the events and renown hearts in that part of the zone before moving on to Brisban Wildlands. If you go into Brisban from Metrica, in fact, you’ll start out, again IIRC, at the level 16 renown heart, which should help you in that regard.

armor durability, game installation

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: joe.7684

I have the game installed on my desktop and laptop (for, of course, playing away from home). The only way that logging onto the game from a different computer matters is that, as others have said, ANet will send you an email asking you to confirm your identity when you log into the game from a different location (determined by IP address) than you’ve logged in from in the past. If your ISP assigns IP’s dynamically, you may be asked to reconfirm your identity when that IP is changed even if you’re playing on the same computer you usually do.

The verification routine will ask you if you want to have the location (IP) remembered for future log-ins. Basically, follow the same rules you do for having your location remembered by other applications depending on whether the location is a “trusted” one.

My speculation is since we are getting 2 pieces of the carapace and luminescent armors in both episode 7 and 8, that they each will last one month.

So episode 7 to launch tomorrow, Wintersday launches on the 16th, episode 8 to launch in January.

Ya I think this would be more likely.

I agree with that. (As a sidenote, I don’t think I’m going to bother trying to collect the luminescent version; it took me some time to realize it, but I saw side-by-side illustrations of carapace and luminescent on the wiki and realized they’re both the same design. I guess the difference is that luminescent is, well, luminescent.)

My guild leader was speculating yesterday that the next episode will move back to Dry Top. How likely is that?

Dead players dragging everybody down.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: joe.7684

joe.7684

Dead players are never a problem in the open world events – with the exception of the new Silverwastes, because there is only one waypoint in the whole area.

In all of the bigger events in the open world, either it is not relevant if some dead players are around, or the players are kindly asked to use a waypoint (Tequatl, Golem II). Here we don’t need any fix, because nothing is broken.

But in the Silverwastes, you are not able to reach the legendary boss or The Breach event back in time if you use a waypoint. Even if you were, you have only seconds back into the fight before the event is over. Whenever I died in the Breach, I simply waited dead and hoped for either being resurrected or getting the event reward in case no one was able to resurrect. Staying dead usually means “personal fail, no reward”, but using a waypoint is just the same. So there is no point in using a waypoint. If I were resurrected, I get a second chance on the reward and would be of more help than I would be if I run 2 minutes through half of the map from the waypoint. So I simply wait.

After getting the bosses Silver and Gold in 2 different events with numerous fails in between, you can be sure that I will not try Indigo any more. Never.

I feel the same way too. It took nearly two weeks for me to finally get the Gold boss, and since then I haven’t been back to Indigo during a breach event – I go for Platinum, Copper or Iron which are much easier to defeat. In fact, I seriously think that the Silver/Gold pair could do with a slight nerfing because the way the fight is set up, the way of defeating them is so particular that it’s really too difficult for many people to stick to in the heat of a battle. Rule of thumb: if it’s frustrating, it’s not fun.

If we ever get around to fighting Jormag, I imagine most of the old EotN areas will be opened up for exploration. Down in Sparkfly Fen, for example, we have the sites of the old Bloodstone Caves and Bogroot Growths dungeons – I think that Inquest post in the southeast of the zone is on or close to where Bloodstone once was, and the general area of Bogroot’s old location is, of course, now home to many hylek tribes both friendly and hostile. Shards of Orr, home to the (in)famous Bone Dragon Staff, was east of where the Grove now is and is either underwater or behind the Great Wall of the tengu. I believe the Central Transfer Chamber (and I wonder why it’s not on the map considering that it was cleansed of Destroyers during EotN and is presumably still the hub of the Asura gate network) is somewhere in Frostgorge Sound. The site of Oola’s Lab is to the west of Rata Sum, in an area that is theoretically available for exploration at a future date – my own headcanon is that Oola moved her digs to their current location after EotN. For that matter, Alcazia Tangle, where Tarnished Haven once was, is still there southeast of Rata Sum, though half-flooded – I don’t see why it couldn’t be opened in due course as a new front in the campaign against Mordremoth as its minions swarm the area in an attempt to attack the Asura and Sylvari metropolises.

Would love to see mounts in the game. Was one of the few things that disappointed me about GW2 when I picked it up (The others being lack of guild bases and lack of personal housing)

Frankly, I’d rather have guild halls, fixing the Personal Story, finally fixing – for good – all of these dynamic events that are always getting bugged, and a lot of the other things Orpheal listed (even raid-style content!) before we can even consider mounts.
