I agree. Spite minors suck bigtime. Luckily spite majors are pretty sweet.
It’s not really a class/build that carries pugs. There is no truly carrying bad teams…. The most important thing to being a good player isn’t always necessarily the class/build you play but your map awareness and rotations as a team.
While I do not support the act of someone afking in a ranked match. I can understand some people’s frustration with soloque as it should be competitive. Meaning 10 like minded individuals who may not have their team on or may not be interested in forming a team get together and do a competitive match.
Last night I had dealt with a single ranger on three separate occasions. The first time was on legacy of the foefire with them on the opposing team. This ranger literally spent all match trying to kill our lord. Their DPS was so low that we didn’t even bother going to lord until the announcer had been screaming it for 2 min or so. By that time we had wiped the rest of their teammates 2 or 3 times just because we had the numbers for it.
The ranger didn’t kill our lord ever and he likely cost his team the game. Next match I had the same ranger on khylo…. He was on our team and kept fiddling with our treb…. I guess the other team was dumber than a box of rocks but they never went to touch our treb….
Last situation I have with this guy is Foefire again and he is on my team…. I say to myself “I’ll stick with him for a bit and see what he does.” Mainly because he was bragging that he was “new 2 dots” and “going to make space for the luna” So I stick with my new ranger friend and we push far together… We start on the ele they sent to their home point and get him to half. Suddenly the ranger leaves and starts beating on the door… We haven’t capped the point or downed the ele. Five secs after the ranger leaves I get zerged by the 2 other players on the opposing team because our numbers at GY were low…. Meanwhile this ranger is just pounding away at the door.
I say okay ranger please don’t go lord we need you on points. “He says no lord kill will give us 150 and I am pulling them from points to lord.” Except noone from the enemy went lord. They just ignored the ranger and it was a 4v5 as such….
Basically the toxicity of vets comes when we get players like this in our soloques. We try to give a good strat at the beginning, we beg for people to not rambo points like pushing far when we already have two points, or pushing in to fight a bunker solo.
When I have a good match I thank my team (even the close ones that I lose), when I have a bad match I look for weaknesses sometimes it is me and I made a mistake in a team fight. However most losses come from situations like what was just described. One nimrod on my team thinking he is MLG pro and trying to run in to impossible situations costing us matches….

Stop dreaming, necros are supposed to suck. We are the punchbag role so that 87,5% of the players can feel good about themselves and makes them spend more on gemstore. Its not like Anet is hiding this fact very well.

Shatter? Clone spammer? PU? What build? Mesmer is one of the hardest classes to master in PvP
Think about it like this; who would you rather have in your team.
- Pvprank 10, leaderboard rank 50.
- Pvprank 80, leaderboard rank 500.I would personally go for the later in 99% of the cases, unless the first is an alt account.. Its very likely that the first one is only there due to sheer luck (+ the crappy MMR system) and he most certainly lacks experience in important areas like rotating.
^This 1000x over. I care less about leaderboard ranking and much more about good matches. I love matches where the last score is 500 to 480+. Matches that come down to the wire and keep you on your toes the entire time. Being matched with people who have no clue what they are doing doesn’t make for an interesting match for either team.
Then people would complain about being locked out. Wouldn’t it be a hell of a lot simpler if they just made it say “Waiting on X players…” before the game starts?
If you have bad internet and know that you might DC don’t join soloque. That simple I know everyone wants to have fun. But 10 people are depending on each other to have a good internet connection. If one person DC’s the match becomes less fun for everyone. The 4 person team feels cheated, the 5 person team doesn’t feel challenged. If it’s server side then it is a different issue and if everyone became locked out of PvP because of server side issues then Anet would have to fix their servers and everyone can go do something else for a day.
To be fair… Rank 80 isnt any different than having a Legendary. Rank 80 is the “grind” legendary of PVP, whereas Legendaries are for PVE heros. A grind is a grind. All rank 80 says is “I’ve done this before, quite a bit”, but doesnt say “I learned from my time doing it”. It CAN, but it doesn’t directly mean that.
Yes however the amount of rank 80s that are completely clueless are few and far between….
Simple solution to 4v5. Make the game unranked that way it doesn’t affect MMR. If the game turns 4v5 because of a DC then that player gets dishonored the match becomes unranked and the pve heroes still get the reward track rewards for playing the soloque game.
Result: Reward tracks remain, PvP’ers that care about MMR don’t lose any, PvE’ers get their shiny backpieces and dungeon chests.
Highly Skilled Player hits you with confusion…
You:
A) Do nothing, and die from Highly Skilled Player auto attacks.
B) Defend yourself, and die from confusion damage.
C) Cure the condition, only to have it instantly reapplied.
D) Log off and play another game, because it’s the sensible thing you can do.
Complaining about confusion? LOL.
Because it ensures that you proc the sigil effect every time.
People seriously have referred to a pixel grindable as a merit? That’s a new low if anything is, along with rank 16. Even I am way past that.
It’s happened so many times… People gripe about toxicity toward newcomers in PvP but it doesn’t help when you try taking a mentoring approach to teaching them how to rotate and what points to focus in the context of the map and they just keep doing their own thing then back talking saying “lol I got the most kills scrub” because that is relevant!
And the lowest I’ve had was a r2 on an enemy team… This is after the patch. So yes there needs to be some arbitrary entry barrier to soloque…. Not because we don’t want a bigger population but a bigger population that is clueless is worse than waiting 10 min for a que.
What should this rank requirement be? While I don’t consider myself a top notch player, I do consider hotjoin a form of torture. If I was unable to do solo arenas because the limit was at 40 for example, I’d stop playing PvP. There is no way in the Mists I’d grind hotjoin and cringe for weeks to get to an arbitrary limit like that.
You do have to admit that a lot of the players are clueless about how the maps work, because the blurb of text you get pre-match isn’t really helping a newcomer understand what to do and how to play. Our benevolent Arenanet overlords could do quite a bit here in the form of a tutorial, or heaven forbid, a Tutorial Tournament Circuit that you have to play through successfully to get into the vapid solo queue. Professions and their roles could use similar tutorials.
The blurb of text is really all they need to focus on “Hold on to your points, Seize theirs.” That really is the long and short of winning matches… The problem arises when you get new comers that spend 90% of the match fighting off point chasing one thief around the map while the rest of their team back caps your point….
You wouldn’t believe the amount of times I get told off because the person I am trying to get to stomp, res, cap, etc said “I have a legendary l2p the game noob”, Then I ask what their sPvP rank is and they say “Rank 16 what do you know scrub?”
Difference is that warrior cc skills all have insane animations, meanwhile deatshroud #3 has no cast-time and can only be dodged with luck. Staff #5 also poor animation.
This is true however deathshroud three is evaded all the time because according to Jsharp and company “Dodging is very prevalent in the game.” Also let’s not forget that we have to spec heavily for our fears to do anything but a little bit of CC. On top of that Doom does no damage without traiting and Reapers mark does very little without terror as well….. So warriors get obvious animations because all of their skills hit like a truck traited or not cc’d or not.
Just had a match where everyone on my team had a dragon finisher… Hence R80….
It’s funny because everyone knew where to go they knew the rotations. they knew to focus the enemy treb, they never fought off point etc etc.
People can say all they want that rank=/=skill… But I still say that the higher your rank the more likely you are to know what the heck to do in a tournament match… Hence I still think they should implement a min rank requirement to soloque….
This bug is annoying as hell.
Lets just say there really needs to be a min rank for soloque… There is absolutely no reason someone that is PvP r2 (i asked and that was their honest answer.) should be in soloque. Better tutorials need to occur on Anets side (lets face it the one they have now is garbage.)
And I think guilds should start hosting events showing the finer points of 5v5 play. Because people that just join soloque don’t get what rotate out means…. I have heard everything from " I am home bunker I can never leave no matter what," to “Why the hell don’t we have any points I keep pushing far and you guys are losing.” Well that was because he was pushing far and losing 1v1 and the person that beat him would come join the team fight leaving us outnumbered….

Dumbfire came out june last year… Healing signet got in aug with berserker stance…. Suddenly warriors were steam rolling through everything… That is more than 3-6 months because warriors were considered OP way before the beginning of this year 4mos now.
It is vvery easy to dodge the slow hammer attacks assuming you know the rotationa nd see them coming. You shouldnt be getting stunlocked if you dodge and interrupt their attacks.
The point me and Vuh are trying to get across is to time your dodges and dont randomly use up your dodges. If you cant do that then Stability is your only other choice.
i think he already knows that, man. a hambow is hard to fight against if you dont have stability because eventually you will run out of stun breakers and dodges. if this guy is running a non-bunker build, most possibly he’d be stunned to death without a fight.
Well thats the life of someone running squishy builds, you cant win against every build.
The problem here is warriors are dealing glass cannon damage with a soldiers amulet. Yes they should be sturdy but this sturdiness should come at some expense of damage, it doesn’t. Anyone else building to do glass cannon damage actually has to have some “glass” component. If you look at ToL all the warriors were running soldiers ammy bit the damage they dished out wasn’t matching the damage someone built that tank should do

I think your issue is you went into necromancer expecting a damage class. Necromancers are tanky/caster hybrids that support allies with LOTs of conditions. You don’t play necromancers for raw damage, you play them to make everyone around you run away in fear, cause enemies to kill over from loss of blood, and essentially never die while slowly killing everything around you.
Alternatively, necromancers actually make pretty decent healers. I know healing isn’t really a focus on this game, but talents like Life Transfer combined with Mark of Blood and Well of Blood can actually keep people alive pretty darn well.
Except people forget that necros have amazing direct damage? Well of suffering says hi!
Best single target range dps? Necro lich form… That is all.

Have been in top 1k but thanks for stalking me and I love when I look at the leaderboards and see that one of the top people has 4 wins and 1 loss… That shows how great the leaderboard is… And lets be honest soloque is pretty much luck based and depending on the time of day you play.
If I play NA prime my w/l is about 80/20 If i play late at night like oceanic prime my w/l is about 40/60….Then why advertise that people can win 90% of all matches if they “play for objective” when you struggle to stay above 50%?
Yeah, leaderboards are pretty whacky, but I don’t know anyone decent not on them…

I’m not on them because I usually get players that say things like “1 home 3 boss 1 mid” the guy going mid dies because their team only sent one to the mob or they ignored it completely then after they wipe us in the mid fight THEN they go back to the boss because they know that noone can steal it since everyone is respawning…..

If you keep that as your main objective 9/10 times you will win.
Don’t stress the orb
Don’t fight in the skyhammer the whole game (3 of one team up there the entire time fighting one person)
Don’t push far on khylo or foefire mid is most important on those maps
Don’t waste time killing mobs at the beginning on forest….

6500 is be the average of a phantasm build’s izerker (5k + 30%) I haven’t noticed being hit super hard by any phants tho.

Shatter isn’t really in need of a buff. It could use minor tweaking with a couple traits but other then that it’s fine. Just a bit of the burst from other classes, namely thieves, needs to be toned down. Or at least introduce some more counterplay to it.
Not really thieves are still having a hard time even remotely touching some other classes… And the shatter combo is so predictable that it’s kind of hard to get it off against any decent player…. At least with backstab there is some element to surprise… but shatter… not really.
It’s nice when other people realize the weaknesses of a shatter build. I hate hearing how “broken” shatter combos are when you have to be pretty much standing still for any of it to hit.
Anyways, which classes would those be? I know they have trouble against off guards and engis but I don’t see any other classes being a big threat. Maybe s/s condi wars.
That are a threat to thieves? Power necros… It’s so funny but often times a tainted shackles/life transfer combo will down a thief in stealth against a power necro. After that come trap rangers and condi engineers. Aoe condition damage just destroys thieves right now. Also d/d eles are pretty formidable again.
I want to see a hot fix that prevents more than 2 of a profession on a team. I also want to see a hotfix that requires some sort of barrier to entering soloque. On top of that I want to see a hotfix to the targeting system so that if someone calls a target it keeps the rest of the morons on your team from going after something else because you have downed the called target 3 times and noone on your team has been able to get a stomp off but the opposing team has kept you from stomping because they focused you forcing you to peel and yet the other person is sitting there with noone on their team ressing and noone no your team stomping… Yup pro.
Well something needs to happen all these pve pros keep pushing far leaving us outmanned on other fights… or doing nothing but zerging orb and dying, etc etc. its getting bad…. it’s really pathetic when you can judge how well your team will do based off the amounts of legendaries they have. The more legendaries the worse off you will be. GG

Axe’s issue is not its range.

It isn’t. While it’s not a strength, it isn’t a weakness.
Axe’s main weakness is a useless 1. 2 is solid burst + LF regen, and 3 is solid cripple+retal. They’re not stand-out amazing, but they’re not supposed to be.
You don’t seem to understand what the argument is, necro has no range for weapons on a power spec, 600 range is the shortest range in a range weapon, every other range weapon does a better job at range dps while being at a safe distance.
Necro has an amazing ranged DPS weapon. It’s called death shroud+ life blast. Also not too mention that unless a person completely evades it life blast is a homing missile.
Overall? The squishy burst professions; Ele, Mesmer, Thief.
Interrupt Mesmer would be right near the top of the list, in terms of specific builds.
Like I said… lol.

It could be because you also fail to realize that a necromancer =/= engineer. The engi always had good access to burning you know since launch. The necromancer always had better access to bleeds you know since launch. The necromancer also has fear, terror, can corrupt your boons turn them into conditions, better chill uptime, transfer your conditions back to you so even if you have +300% burning duration the necro had no burning he could give it back to you.
I could go on but the point is that simply a engineer =/= necromancer. Sure if you just started playing the gamer AFTEr necro’s received burning you might think differently but engineers always had access to it. People just started complaining about burning across the game once Necro’s had access to it. Then magically burning became OP and everything that deals with burning should be nerfed, including a class that always had access to it prior but nobody complained about that until Necro’s received burning.

engineer is one of the most broken professions right now, and anybody who plays one that isn’t deluded by their bias will tell you this. this nerf would be, for once, a step in the right direction to making this profession more in line with everything else.

I have played warrior several times. Whenever I want to halfway afk I play my hambow warrior.
The individual skill of the top team players is most of the time higher then the average players skilllvl.
Best example is soloq where you dont have your rotations.

It’s simple if you look at ToL their were still more hambows than any other spec, followed by spirit ranger, and bunker guardian. The only reason people aren’t screaming bloody murder about bunker guards is they still go down eventually and require harsh management of cds and heals.
Err, I dunno what tournament you were watching, but I saw plenty of teams with no warrior. I saw two teams with mesmers in the final. I saw a team without a ranger win the tournament. Also, 55 HP monks was not running a spirit ranger either.
But several of the teams with warriors had 2. Im not basing it off of who won but just the class representation. Mesmer/ele were the least repped classes in the tournament.

So I was playing power necro on skyhammer using 6/2/0/0/6, this build has only one fear from deathshroud. I go up to the hammer and there is a guard there with hammer/gs. He does binding blade over a glass panel and right when he pulls I interrupt the animation with DS 3 and he gets feared off the edge…. In map chat i see “hur hur fear terror necros are so OP.”
Just strikes me as funny how all classes get categorized into what the community sees as “cheese builds” just because they play that class… What are your stories on people guessing your builds just because you beat them at their own cheese?

It just shows me you have no idea about high ranking. Top Rangers and Warris will also be top with other speccs but these speccs would be less effective.
Telling me that a casual player would beat up a top gamer in 1vs1 situation with same spec / class is total BS sorry.
People don’t get that top teams aren’t top teams only because of the classes they play or individual “skill”. Top teams are in such a situation because they work the maps as a team and time their map rotations over the average player. They know when to push and when to play it safe.
So many people think that top teams playing certain builds makes that build hard to play or they have a great individual skill because they are “top” teams.
Cheese builds which require little to no skill and can just be picked up and ran with are
1. Warrior… (anything but killshot 100bros builds which are just hilarious).
2. Spirit ranger
3. MM Necro
4. PU/Phantasm Mesmer

The top teams run these specs not because it speaks to the top teams skill as an individual player but because these are the most rewarding specs for the least amount of risk. In a game mode where you sit in a circle and beat on each other. And yes for the most part the any idiot can play hambow warr and spirit ranger.
At the skill cap I would say the hardest builds to play effectively (IMO):
1. Interrupt Mesmer (6/2/6/0/0) (no crutch from DE or iPersona)
2. S/D Ele
3. Shatter Mesmer
4. Power Ranger
5. Power Necro (Non-MM, MM is trash and needs removed)
6. Static Discharge Engineer
7. D/P ThiefI say this because these classes are very high risk high reward specs. They are not (totally) dependent on AI with the exception of the shatter mesmer but even then the damage is the shatters and not the illusions…. and they all wear a zerker amulet.
Cheese builds which require little to no skill and can just be picked up and ran with are
1. Warrior… (anything but killshot 100bros builds which are just hilarious).
2. Spirit ranger
