At the skill cap I would say the hardest builds to play effectively (IMO):

1. Interrupt Mesmer (6/2/6/0/0) (no crutch from DE or iPersona)
2. S/D Ele
3. Shatter Mesmer
4. Power Ranger
5. Power Necro (Non-MM, MM is trash and needs removed)
6. Static Discharge Engineer
7. D/P Thief

I say this because these classes are very high risk high reward specs. They are not (totally) dependent on AI with the exception of the shatter mesmer but even then the damage is the shatters and not the illusions…. and they all wear a zerker amulet.

Cheese builds which require little to no skill and can just be picked up and ran with are

1. Warrior… (anything but killshot 100bros builds which are just hilarious).
2. Spirit ranger
3. MM Necro
4. PU/Phantasm Mesmer
5. Decap/Turret engi…

Actually I don’t but I do have 5/8 champ titles. And I have played interrupt mesmer as well kittenter and PU, I have also played HGH engi, decap engi, static discharge engi, bunker engi, I have played bunker guard/DPS guard. Terrormancer and power necro, d/d ele, s/d ele, d/p thief, hambow warrior, hammer/axe shield warrior.
I’m also rank 78 on nothing but tournament games because I despise hotjoin. If you look at my class pie chart it is a pretty even mix of classes with the least being on ranger (mainly because I find it sooooo boring to play.)

Also get a better tutorial system I don’t have the time nor the patience to explain the following things in the minute and a half before the match.

I don’t play a warrior, but if I did I would never stand in a well. Also if I played a warrior as soon as I saw you pop lich I would just run away for the duration of lich come back kill you and teabag you. Shouldn’t ever rely on an elite to win a 1v1.

The fact that it’s a conquest game mode kind of makes them either have to stand in wells… Or lose the point… And you’d be surprised how many dumb warriors there are.

as long as PU mesmer, all thief builds, necro and engineer condition gets nerfed. Warrior nerfs would be ok.

PU Mesmer is borderline useless in tournament play because they usually have no boon strip, weak shatters, and at least one next to useless phantasm. PU is a 1v1 roaming build and a wvw build. Not viable for high end tournaments. Don’t believe me see how many mesmers were in the ToL running PU or any mesmers in ToL for that matter. .

Necro Condition builds have been nerfed hard. Power necro is actually more dangerous than a condi necro especially with things like berserker stance and diamond skin (lol at people that complain on this one) are around.

Engineer needs nerfed but indirectly the issue with engineers now is the runes of balthazaar (if those get nerfed engineers would be a lot less annoying). There is a new decap engi build that uses the boons from turrets but that is susceptible to conditions so there we have it.

Thieves die heavily to any AOE damage and wouldn’t you know what is running rampant right now… Aoe damage.

The only real issue with warriors still is a combination of the new runes of strength allowing them to hit harder than the old merciless hammer trait and the fact that an 8% nerf to healing signet was not enough. They need to nerf the base more and scale it better with healing power.

I have to agree. Unlike most classes, we’re quite dependent on our Death Shroud and starting with 0% LF is a bit of a problem sometimes.

Personally, I’ve gotten used to it and don’t really mind. However, I think it’s kinda off-putting for newcomers and casual players.

I normally sideline on team fights and see where their squishies are… Usually if I can get them locked down I well of suffering>lich form for the first team fight and by the end of that my life force is full….

Why does one of the of the tankiest base classes get a healing signet with no conditionals and base heals for more than other other class with the same cd?

riddle me that

all classes have acsses to poison, you can esaily poison the war, at this point healing sig is usally even less effictive then regen boon.

and no you are wrong other heals can heal for much more, like the rangers healing spring, or necro when he consumes condis and so on.

basiclly just put poison on the war, its not hard at all, if you play 5v5 you can easily put 35+ seconds of poison on the war.

if you complain about 1v1 well maybe you luck the skill to poison the war when you need to, it is more then fair for the war to clean poison and for you to have to reapple it.

if you dont have poison and you want to 1v1 its gonna be much harder yet remmber that healing sig base is 377 with 300 put into healing pwr on war, you can land around 2000+ with no crits on power builds in a second and usally around 3500 with crits.

but then you may say that “i play condi” if you play a condi build you most likly have poison, war is durable he is not supposed to get burned by condis in a few seconds like some pepole want.

Mesmer, guardian, Warrior, Ele… Without a weapon swap right there half the classes now have no access to poison. (Mesmer only real access is possibly chaos storm but the duration is so short and its a random proc. So it’s not worth mentioning.)

So please don’t resort to hyperbole whne you say everyone has access to poison because there are half the classes that half little to none.

6500 is be the average of a phantasm build’s izerker (5k + 30%) I haven’t noticed being hit super hard by any phants tho.

Anyways I’m cool with it being fixed, but can shatter please get a buff? Lol

Shatter isn’t really in need of a buff. It could use minor tweaking with a couple traits but other then that it’s fine. Just a bit of the burst from other classes, namely thieves, needs to be toned down. Or at least introduce some more counterplay to it.

Not really thieves are still having a hard time even remotely touching some other classes… And the shatter combo is so predictable that it’s kind of hard to get it off against any decent player…. At least with backstab there is some element to surprise… but shatter… not really.

Yea because it’s working as intended now; they totally screwed up the damage calculation somehow, phantasm non-crits have just taken a blanket 50% damage reduction.

When you’re hitting a glass target for 1.8k with 20 might and 25 Vuln, there is a problem.

But now mesmers are fine!!!!!! People don’t have to run from us so we are fine now! It’s all a bad dream… Go back to facerolling it will be okay… shhh…shhh

On a serious note…. When can I actually start playing my mesmer again anet?

PU has never been viable in conquest.

Nor will it ever be. It’s so funny seeing PU mesmers maximizing their stealth when really it’s just costing them points.

There is currently a bug with all NPC damage in PvP being higher than intended. We are shooting to get this fixed before the Tournament of Legends.

What numbers are we talking?

High numbers, like 2 shotting glass cannons

Because heaven forbid precious thieves get 2 shotted.

Wow just no. The only way I can tell the difference between people that have actually attempted to pvp a little more than casually and the Pve heroes that are flooding soloque is titles. If someone is a Reaper, or Champ (insert title here) I have a little more hope. If I see “been there done that”, “the sunbringer”, “hero of lions arch” etc I get discouraged because I feel they will likely not be as knowledgeable about pvp tactics.

What I’d love to know is how come AC p1 (10 minutes) gives you more gold than COE p1/p3?

I think it’s because the loot from bosses in AC might be slightly worse than COE? Also I think AC has less chests after fights? So the extra silver is to offset this?

This is a known bug with illusionary leap. Any slope in the ground and it bugs out and messes up. It will never get fixed. Anet has admitted it will never get fixed.

@Op the main reason i can say that warriors are built this way is one simple reason.

Warriors are meant to be the easiest class in the game to just pick up and run with. This class isn’t meant to provide some uber challenge with it’s mechanics. It is supposed to be the lowest skill floor class in the game. Which is why it’s traits are as such as well as healing signet.

The downside to this is that certain other classes when playing their best should do better than a mediocre warrior playing at a mediocre level. However this is not so.

So the traits and skills you bring up don’t need adjusted IMO but other classes do need their risk/reward ratio improved. Right now warriors are not only easy mode but easy to do extremely well on.

(this can be said for other specs in other classes but is the most glaring for warriors.)

mesmer clones deal 15k dmg in one hit to me, thief. Also warriors and guardians hit me harder than before patch. Something must be wrong. Maybe armor formula

Everyone has been doing more damage in pvp. I personally like it it keeps the matches more lively and is actually giving bursty classes a chance against the condi bunker cheese. Also I started running my old shatter build. And I am really not noticing that much more of a difference between now and before the patch. If the mesmer is using runes that give +dmg% or they are taking the increased damage traits for illusions.

"4 Warriors, Zerker only" story

Haha this is so kitten true. I’m starting to find this mentality is creeping into high level fractals as well. I play Oceanic time zone so my party options are always limited in the 40+ category but the other night I saw a party advertising zerker only. I play a power tank necro but thought i’d give the party a try as they had been advertising for over 15 mins. They said they’d ‘give me a chance’ LOLZ and we started our lvl 50 run.

Throughout the entire run, the zerkers were going down, over and over and over, while i’m still standing trying to res everyone. Party leader ended up raging and leaving, booting us out.

The next night I decided to just start my own party and promoted that I didn’t care what class you were, as long as you had the AR. The party ended up being, Me (Necro), a ranger, an ele, a thief and a warrior.

We completed the entire run in about an hour without a single issue. We had Swamp, Cliffside, Thermanova and Molten. Seamless.

I guess my point is that for the most part, if a player is good, they’ll be good on any type of toon.

But they’ll be better on a toon with a proper build. Why be good when you can be better? Why not strive for excellence rather than mediocrity? I’m not saying a good build makes someone good, but if you are purposely not using a good build then there is a good chance you just don’t care about your effectiveness.

Being a necro, ele, ranger, and a thief doesn’t automatically=bad. Every class has bad builds, or you have people that are just clueless on how to play their class. I was playing with a D/F ele (me on a necro) in fractals 38 and made sure to not interfere with the might stacking… Well the ele would burning speed>flamewall…. Then switch to air. No blasting, nothing….
Necro, ranger, ele, and thief all have good dungeon builds…. Having what people view as “subpar” classes doesn’t mean that they don’t have good builds it means that everyone who says that likes playing warrior and halfway afking through everything because warrior is that easy in dungeons.

We are going by different concepts of useless. You have casual players and you have hardcore players. In areas of the game where players seek to maximize efficiency the mesmer is next to useless. In dungeons without a high reflect component, hardcore players are highly unlikely to bring a Mesmer, especially on speed runs. In pvp the top tier teams don’t use Mesmer they use thieves. In wvw mesmers are constrained to our utilities, the benefit we have to the raising our servers level is nothing beyond veil, timewarp, portal, null field, feedback. And even in those instances 1 or 2 mesmers is all that is necessary. You can have fun with Mesmer. But you can’t excel with mesmer

I’ll keep watching Vashury, Wing, Alissah and Osicat exceling at mesmer if you don’t mind.
You should reroll warrior btw.

This is mostly roaming, Alissah has pointed out several times that in larger fights Mes loses significance. Excelling at mesmer within the constraints of the mesmer class, and the mesmer class excelling in more than one very small mostly unsupported aspect of the game are two different things.

So you played 500 hotjoin games, still dont understand how to play conquest and dont like that you get insulted for it?

I am an ex track runner, and working on my third degree blakc belt. Lets chat about good sportsman ship here for a second.

I have seen guys & girls burn it out on the track and actually hug at the end of a good race.
I have contact martial arts with other people in tournaments from other stats and we plan lunches to meet and catch up. It is call sportsmanship, and no whether if you win or lost there is no excuse for insults.

Those for the most part are individual sports that rely solely on your individual effort sportsmanship is easy in that case.

If you are playing a football game and your center keeps falling over letting the quarter back get sacked over and over and over….. Are you going to tell them “aww you tried your best lets go get lunch now.” Or “hey your job is to keep 2 300 pound powerhouses off our quarterback now do it or you are done for the rest of the game.”

When trying to play as a cohesive unit to achieve a goal if one part of that unit is falling short it is necessary to bring it to attention. Now there are extrenuous factors such as getting soloqued with 3 thieves/2 mesmers. That’s just bad luck…. But if you know that your team comp should be solid and see one glaring hole in what is going on…. It should be called out.

No ability in the game should require more than two traits to max.

So, you are on to something with your critique. The more traits that can improve Deathshroud, the weaker the base Deathshroud must be balanced at.

Almost every Profession mechanic or suite of utilities (signets/shouts/minions/etc) Has more than two traits to improve them, for every profession. It’s part of what allows you to make a ‘minion build’ as a Necro or a ‘Shout build’ as a Guardian.

It’s funny that you mention Guardian shouts, because a Guardian has exactly 2 traits that improve shouts. One trait reduces shout recharge and a grandmaster trait that converts conditions.

Consequently untraited Huardian shouts === Good.

Necromancer Death Shroud?

Twelve traits. There are twelve traits that affect death shroud. Conesquently, untraited Death shroud == Bad. Necromancer traits Death shroud for retaliation, fury, toughness, condition removal, health regeneration, a heal, condition drawing, lower lifeforce degen, speed, recharge, stability, or critical chance.

Since you can make it good, the default is bad.

Want might, piercing, or burn on you DS#1. three more traits. Want utility on your #2 or team support on your #4? Another trait each. Want your #3 to last not pathetically short and actually do damage? 2 more traits.

19 traits to get full use out of Deathshroud.. Of course, you only get 14 total traits. That you can build Deathshroud different ways is possibly interesting, but it means that the base is weak, and that you can’t do anything else after you have built your shroud. In contrast, that guardian doesn’t even need to take any traits to get his shouts working, and can max them with 2 traits, enough leftover traits to spec in whatever.

Lol… yes and meanwhile the guardians “mechanic” virtues are just as spread out and odd as deathshroud traits. If we are going to talk about class mechanics lets keep it specifically at class mechanics.
Virtues, Attunements, Adrenaline, Toolbelt, Shatter, Deathshroud, Pets, Steal/Initiative.

I think DS is amazeballs… Untraited sure it sucks but it gets really great even with a couple of traits even if you don’t actually camp DS til it runs out… I’m thinking condi necro running weakening shroud for one…. DS really is one of the better mechanics for classes now that it was fixed. I remember it used to drain much faster than intended.

I am pretty new to PVP so this may not be an issue with experienced players. But it is really annoying that after the match is over that people are still trying to kill me.
I want to look at the board, see how many points I got, see what place I ended up in. Mostly to see if i am improving.

I have even congratulated an opponent when I had a really knock out drag out fight and lost. (of course when not tying to be murdered after the event is over LOL)

It happens…. It won’t stop the better you get… People do it all the time.

1. Only this long if traited and only matters with terror.
2. Only power necros actually camp deathshroud and I have never heard power necro called OP. And if you want to nerf access to necros deathshroud I suggest you give them stability, vigor, and more regen/protection… you know all that good stuff that they didn’t give necros because of deathshroud.
3. Dhuumfire was pretty much removed from most condi builds since most condi builds don’t camp deathsrhoud.
4. Signet of spite could use a shave I agree but it still isn’t used by most necros anymore because it only really went well with dhuumfire/fear combo.
5. Corrupt boon got nerfed over a year ago. Now its 5 boons not all boons… ever try corrupting a d/d ele? Stability is one of the last things to get corrupted.

Elementalist
1. Diamond Skin
2. Written in stone
3. Stone heart
4. Signet of restoration

1. Eles have lowest armor/HP. Removing 10 percent of their health should be fairly easy for most…
2. Written in stone? Yeah because we have so many full signet eles in PVP
3. Only when attuned to earth also means they don’t have diamond skin… Complain about one or the other… not both.
4. Used to be garbage now it doesn’t suck… QQ more please.

Warrior
1. Healing signet

Healing signet needs slightly more than an 8% nerf however the issue with warriors now is the new sigils of intelligence with fast hands and the new runes of strength.

Engineer
1.Inciendery powder (THE BURNING)
2.Inciendery ammo

1. The issue with engineers burning is not this trait but the new balthazaar runes which put this trait over the top. It’s kind of like when Anet introduced dhuumifire and people started griping about it so they decided to reduce terror damage and the bleed stacks necros got from certain skills. Your complaint about engineers burning doesn’t address the root cause which is most definitely the new rune of balthazar.
2. You find me a GOOD condi engi which actually takes flame thrower… Other wise all flame thrower is good for is decap cheese.

What I think about it..

Dhuumfire OP (needs nerf)

1. Fear-terror damage has been reduced. Pack a stun breaker or stun the necro. Fear necros have no stunbreaks.

3. Signet of Spite- yes needs a shave but not terribly.
4. Corrupt boon is fine now.
5. Diamond skin/Written in stone/Stoneheart/Signet of restoration-see above they are fine… Ele’s are strong again because of the reverted cleansing water nerf.
6. Yes healing signet still needs a slight shave.
7. Incendiary powder is not the root cause of the current problem with engineers and burning the new balthazaar runes need shaved with higher ICDs on the healing skill portion.
8. Incendiary ammo is dependent on the flame thrower which outside of incendiary ammo is garbage for anything but a decap engi.

All in all this post is hyperbole and gives no reasoning for why you want said things nerfed.

I usually draw them all to a corner drop a well and death shroud> life siphon> dead. Usually the only thing surviving by the end of that combo is the supervisor

Need help understanding rotation

But yea.. basically when someone says rotate, they want you to go sit on home and dont move

Wut? That’s not what I mean when I say rotate. Usually when I say rotate or when I rotate myself it’s because I am dying in an outmanned fight or see an outmanned fight that wouldn’t turn around if I jumped in or not. When this happens I know that it means the enemy has left one or more points open for a free cap.

Also when I say rotate to our home bunker it’s for him to come and help in a mid fight that we may not be winning but we still own the point, so having someone sit there and take a beating for an extra 15 seconds could mean holding the point and getting more points. People that died in that mid-fight rotate back to the home point when they res just too make sure it isn’t getting backcapped.

Rotations are key to winning matches not fighting off points and not the most personal points. If you can out rotate the opposite team it doesn’t matter if they kill you in every single fight… (but that doesn’t help.)

Game balance still as bad as pre patch

The only thing bad about it is kittening balth engis and mm/decap not being hit hard enough.

I like how one thread claims MM necro is now useless and another states its overpowered.

You have to look at the level of play.
In soloque MM is overpowered because one most soloque’ers apparently have no clue how to “take” target. MM imo should be targeted over others mainly because removing them from the fight will help clear up the screen clutter. In short MM is OP in soloque because all the new soloquer’s don’t know hot to fight it.

In high end tPvP MM is useless because in a team fight it will get focused first. In this case they are usually left to back bunker and your team can pretty much ignore them and focus the other points.

So it depends on the context. But one thing is for sure. MM is by far one of the most annoying and frustrating specs to play against in this game.

Seriously… what do people expect when they go full out glass cannon?

“I heard thieves are OP so that means when I play my thief I shouldn’t get touched at all and if I do then it means that the class that beat me is OP because and needs nerfed….”

That’s kind of what I feel like he is thinking. Seriously all this recent QQ about iWarlock is funny because the damage hasn’t changed. I think it’s just the projectile speed that finally got adjusted.

actually the damage got significantly changed
prior it would hit around 7k max on those exact circumstances, but now it’s 12.8k

I am main mesmer, but this is just wrong xD

How many conditions did you have on you when this happened?!

this was not on me, I did this hit and had the thief send me the screenshot
but I haven’t seen the exact amount of conditions on the thief

Ahhh…. Well i think it has alot more to do with the projectile tracking…. i didn’t see anything in the patch notes about changing phantasm damage.

Warlocks projectile used to be much much much much slower. It almost never hit and could be sidestepped easily. The warlock does increased damage for each unique condition on you.

As you can see it has a very high damage coeffecient as well as a great damage modifier.
So if you had any number of unique conditions on you it would hit that much harder.
I think it just has to do with the fact that Anet fixed the tracking on the projectile which was much needed.

Maybe necro’s can get some of their bleeds back? I’m not a fan of condition builds in anyway but I seem to remember grasping dead and mark of blood having their bleeding reduced in sPvP I think that this was directly related to dumbfire and at the time Anet seemed so hellbent on keeping that stupid trait on a class that never needed it.

Well now that dumbfire is essentially gone from any decent necromancer build…. Can they get some of their bleeds back?

anyway to answer op I do thing they should Un-nerf the loss of bleeds on some of the necro skills.

If someone says something ridiculous the only logical response is to just simply dismiss the person and the most effect manner is why a simple response.

Asking to get a bleed stack back now that the reason for those bleedstacks being removed has now been removed is ridiculous?

Making it so you can actually look good in PvP was horrible, yes.

ANet please change it so we look like trash again, that made me really enjoy playing it.

This made me lawls…. Used to be I could kind of judge how good someone was based off how they looked in the beggining of the match (the crappier the outfit the more likely they were lower rank.) At the end of the match my suspicions were confirmed usually. Now I judge how new someone is based off how many legendaries I see on my team…. The more people with a legendary the more likely I expect a bad match…. Which usually winds up being true.

Yeah even though necro cant help buff the group. You will still do more dps than other classes if they are using soldier gear (assuming you are using berserker). No class is so different that they would do more dps than other classes with subpar gear. Gear and traits are more important for dps than the class.

Well I wasn’t using the purest DPS spec for necro as far as traits go. (was 6 into soul reaping instead of 5 into curses), but other wise I was using pure berserker gear and one cavalier trinket…. yeah it is just annoying that people base DPS based off class and not gear, traits, etc.

Its not so much that our DPS is terrible (although I’ll wait on spoj or someone else who knows our PvE better than me), its that we don’t tend to bring much else to your standard group. Also Lich + well bombing vs normal DPS is probably not the best comparison.

The point I was making was that necro dps actually isn’t terrible… This warrior had the misconception that it was. Either way the amount of time it took them to get the mob to that health was kind of off putting….
