Scepter is probably your best bet as you make clones faster.
OH sword has skill #4 that spawns clone on block as well.
Staff is good for both condition build in general and clone-making with Phase Retreat (skill #2)

Condition mesmers are in a very good place right now. Not as OP as condition necros, but played right, they are a force to be reckoned with.

The event is now tentatively planned to happen at around 5:00pm PST on Sunday.
I am aware that this will clash with lots of people’s schedules but hey it’s an open invitation. We can always do another one next week and weeks after when more people are around.

On a note of server time, for those who don’t know it already, its basically same as PST time, you can go to Options to change your in-game clock to server time instead of local time.

I presume you mean 5pm PST, the server time is the same as PST time, but you can check it in-game by going to options and turn it on.
My friends and I usually use this to schedule events since it’s universal for us.

The butterfly effect is a key feature of the Chaos theory in mathematics. It is also made known and popularized by movies.

Mesmers use chaos magic and thus the butterflies have been chosen as a quite unique representation of the class. I think Anet has totally nailed it when designing the class with this awesome idea.

Confusion has its places in PVE but not everywhere. Mostly for fighting bosses that do multiple attacks in a short duration.

It’s a pvp-oriented condition and it will stay that way.

From my experience, confusion works great against aetherblade mobs since they attack very fast and furious. So yeah it certainly has its place in PvE, although at the moment, its a small place.

I have a feeling that Anet is introducing even more new hard-and-fast hitting enemies in PvE as well.

Regarding the originator-tester setup and why it’s there, I just want to reiterate:
It’s not so much as a requirement but please look at it as a way this contest aims to promote our guild community growth, the in-game communication between guild members, in particular. And I’m sure you can make great friends by working together as a team.
skcamow has provided great tips on how to get yourself a tester in the post above me. So use it as a starting point.

Also, a note about the issue Menace raised:
“Fear of criticism” and thus discouraged to enter the contest.
Yes, your build will be judged and criticized, but it will be the most respectful and constructive manner.
We have the most helpful and friendliest people and the best community here so no need to be afraid.

That’s very interesting.
There’s something about this new type of mob that feels really player-like. Especially when they can perform combos as well (combo field + combo finisher).

Back when I was doing the Nightmare Unveiled instance, i noticed a Toxic Knight (iirc) leapt through the bubble formed by a Toxic Krait (the one that reflects your projectile and causes Confusion) and the the Knight got his Chaos Armor.

In short, this is the very first time I noticed PvE mob doing a combo.

My question: is this a new thing got added this patch? or it has been around for long, i just didn’t notice at all.

Nevertheless, I really like this feature.

I always run a same set of traits (10/25/10/0/25) because I can’t be bothered retraiting but:
for PvE: i wear almost full zerker gear , makes the build a shatter/phantasm hybrid.
for WvW: i wear rabid/dire gear —> the classic condition clone spammer build xD

Hi guys,

This thread aims to kickstart a series of guild events that are suggested in this thread.

This is an open invitation from me to every member of the OMFG guild to come and visit my lovely home server Eredon Terrace in Sparkfly Fen map.

If we have good turnout, we shall then together bring down the Tequatl (mesmerstyle if necessary) and grab our sweet loot.

Date: this week Sunday (3rd Nov)
Time: tentatively 5:00pm PST (same as NA server time)
Location: Splintered Coast Waypoint, Sparkfly Fen, Eredon Terrace Server
Reason: (in case we really need one) good way for our guild members to hang out and do stuff together

If you plan to attend this event, there are a couple of things to take note:
- Please represent the guild during the event.
- Please come prepared for the fight. Here’s the Dulfy guide on how to beat Tequatl (if you don’t know already).
- Feel free to take any non-mesmer char if you feel that would help the team better.

Don’t worry about getting to overflow guys, more often its just me and good old Teq having a duel.

Q: Why the need to pair up with a tester? If I come up with a build and also have Tester rank in the guild, can I just do everything by myself?
A: You must always have a tester partner in any case. The reasons are: testers will provide the originators with extra time and resources (gear, money, testing experience, etc.), something the originator can lack, and more importantly, they will provide a second perspective when it comes to evaluate the build. Overall, as two minds working together instead of one, the team is better at identifying issues with the build and can come up with better ideas on how to improve and refine the build during the contest. In addition, this setup will promote community growth by providing opportunities for guild members to work and play together towards a common goal.

Q: How do I change my vote in Stage 1? Do I make another post or just edit the existing post?
A: If you could pretty please post the vote again instead of editing your existing post, that would save me a lot of headache (backtracking is not easy). Thanks and cheers.

Q: If a build is not approved by the ORB, can it still pass Stage 1 and go to Stage 2? Also, what if the final score at Stage 1 is something like +10/-10, in other words, positive pts = negative pts?
A: Without approval from the ORB, as long as the build has more upvotes than downvotes, the build still comes through to Stage 2. However, you will still need to have your finalized version of the build checked against its original version (when first submitted) by the ORB so that they agree upon it’s the same build. In the extreme case of a build having net 0 pts (something like +10/-10), the build will be looked at on a case-by-case basis and I will discuss with the ORB in private whether the build should be allowed to proceed to Stage 2 or not.

—RECAP: HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST—

THE PARTICIPANTS

A person comes up with a new build is called an originator.

If an originator wants to enter the contest, they need to:
- /POST: Create a thread on forum to show as many details as possible about the build (just like they usually do already). Please follow this guide on how to present your build on forum.
- /ARRANGE: Arrange with a tester in-game to be your tester partner and together form a group of two. The group will work solely on the build throughout the whole contest to improve, refine, and test the build to its fullest potential, etc.

Notes about tester

- Any person willing to spend time working with you to refine the build during the contest can be registered as your tester partner.
- The guild has its own testers who already want to test out builds, so approach them, express your need, and bring them on board with you. Remember the tester will also get their own reward if the build wins. The reward value will be based on how much they have contributed to the build when the contest is over.
- If you have friend in the guild who is currently not a Tester rank, then just put a note for me, I’m sure I can arrange to change their rank to Tester, even if it’s just for this contest.

- /SUBMIT: Submit your build, preferably in this following format in this thread:

Tester partner name:
Link to build thread:

- /REGISTER: Get your build reviewed and accepted by the Review Board to be fully registered in the contest.

What the participating team CAN do:
- Modify the build (as long as the changes are not radical and the build stays true to its original idea, design, and purpose) UNTIL it gets approved by the Board for its viability OR Stage 1 ends on patch day, whichever comes first.
- Continue posting to inform the forum about the changes in your build, provide tips and tricks, upload videos, tutorials, etc. The idea is to continually improve the build effectiveness AND popularity so you get more upvotes, and thus higher positive score.
- Communicate in-game with fellow players to inform and get feedback from whoever (including the Board members as well) decides to test out your build.

What the participating team CANNOT do:
- Modify the finalized version of the build when it’s already approved.
- Upvote or downvote any build
- Influence fellow players’(including the Board members) opinions through mischievous means (bribery, intimidation, etc.)

Now the time frame is quite extensive compared to last time to give some leeway for any unforseen issue. This also means no contest for December. In fact, this is how I plan to arrange this event, once every 2 months despite of the name.

I actually have been thinking about an open invitation to all members of our guild to do Tequatl on an overflow or something, so an hour camping in an overflow will give us plenty of time to chit-chat and hang out and stuff. And then when the time comes, we just beat the kitten out of the lizard and get our sweet loot. xD

This is not true. Warrior has Distracting Strikes and Ranger has Moment of Clarity
However, its quite clear that Interrupt is not centric to those classes as it is to mesmers. So just want to clarify here, no argument needed.

Cry of Frustration [F4], Scepter 3, Torch 5, Illusionary Retribution (Illusions 5), Confusing Enchantments (Domination VIII), Blinding Befuddlement(Illusions IX), Confusing Combatants (Dueling 25)

Cry of Frustration is F2 shatter, unless you keybind to F4

In addition to this, Mesmer can easily inflict AoE Cripple (-50% movement)/ Weakness (50% damage) / 3xVulnerability (1% more damage per stack) / 3xBleeds simply by spitting out clones and allowing them to be killed via Debilitating Dissipation[/i] and Crippling Dissipation (Chaos V/ Domination V).

Debilitating Dissipation = Chaos V
Crippling Dissipation = Dom V
You had it switched around. It might confuse new mesmers.

Any condition build with clone death traits and trident will prevail to other classes because the auto-attack is ridiculously strong.
But I agree with hihey, it’s more of a matter whether u can force or trick enemy into fighting underwater with you.

I posted this a while ago. Might as well, show my ideas yet again.

My suggestions are based on a mix of popular demand, need for niche weapons and to go well with each profession theme. So here we go:

New types of weapons:
- Polearms: like spears, halberds, lances, etc. – 2H melee with good cleave radius
- Fist weapons: like katars, wristblades, gauntlets, etc. – MH/OH melee very high damage with extremely close range, and no cleave
- Whips: MH melee AoE with low dmg but high CC capability

New weapons for each profession:
Warrior:
- Polearm (2H)
- Fist weapon (MH/OH)
Guardian:
- MH Shield: 1200 ranged throwing autoattack
- Fist weapon (MH/OH)
Engineer:
- Hammer (2H)
- Fist weapons (MH)
Ranger:
- Polearm (2H)
- Whip (MH)
Thief:
- Fist weapon (MH/OH)
- Whip (MH)
Necromancer:
- Torch (OH)
- Fist weapon (MH)
Mesmer:
- Pistol (MH)(ranged 900, 1200 traited)
- Whip (MH)
Elementalist:
- Sword (MH)
- Torch (OH)

@ Alissah: having a feline weapon will inevitably need a canine counterpart too, because Anet has to “balance” the game.

Tier 1 :
1- Thief (Lot of teleport skill, swiftness and leap finisher)
2- Warrior (easy swiftness and movement skills)
3- ranger (swiftness and movement skills)

Tier 2 :
1- Elementalist (permaswiftness easily achieved and some movement skills)
2- Guardian (can struggle a bit but swiftness achievable + teleport and movement skills)
3- Engi (easiest permaswiftness in the game)

Tiers 3
1-Necromancer (can achieve permaswiftness at high cost but almost no movement skills)
2- (and last) Mesmer (Only class that need gear help to achieve a decent movement speed)

OP’s lack of situational awareness and over-reliance on passive defense (def stats from gear) led to his demise.

Not just thief, but pretty much any class that specs full dps can easily down you in 3 seconds given your playstyle. So stop your whining.

So OP got ganked by a thief while busying doing something else and not paying enough attention. No breaking news here. It happens quite often in WvW.

For a class that is specifically designed to rely on the element of surprise to prevail, I think it’s working as intended.

Get over it, learn from it and be more cautious next time.

Yeah, you can’t summon your phantasm on an invulnerable target.
This is not a new thing and it’s working as intended, not broken.

In order from fastest to slowest ooc potential:
Thief – Warrior
Ranger
Engineer – Elementalist
Necromancer
Guardian
Mesmer

As for ranger, my way of maximizing ooc speed:
Shout Mastery, Nature’s Voice trais with Guard utility.
Also GS# 3 is awesome for quick burst movement as well.

Doesn’t stealth only break if you deal dmg directly to enemies?

Basically you jump right into the middle of enemy zerg, inflict all those nasty conditions (cripple, weakness, vulnerablity), boonshare with allies, stealth away when things get too rough.

You won’t do fantastic dmg as a tank, most dmg will just come from your normal attacks, blurred frenzy, and retaliation. But it shouldn’t be an issue when zerging in WvW.

@Pyro: I’m not trying to argue here. Just want to make an example of how the new Body Shot can be used to great effect, in my case, its a P/P build, the Unload skill can crit for >10k when the enemy is below 50% health.
Also, the stun+immob. combo is very powerful since its not easy to regain movement with a push of a button.
Mind you we have this combo with Chaotic Interruption too, it’s much more powerful but ofc harder to exectute compared to Thief’s version.

@Advent: yes, reflect is bad for P/x Thief. No doubt about it.

@WyldKat: you seem to be a decent and humble thief.
Have u tried using Body Shot with Basilisk Venom?

On my P/P thief, you all know I use Body Shot to secure my Unload. But I would never ever spam Body Shot, and always use it with Basilisk Venom.
As far as I know, Mesmer has no stunbreaker with condi removal built-in, unless using traited Signet of Midnight in a Signet build and you probably won’t see much that build in WvW.
This means when you successfully hit with Body Shot, you force the mesmers to blow 2 utility skills (or 1 utility and another key weapon skill) to regain movement. And I think that is very impressive.
I always judge a thief based on their open-ups. The good ones are the ones I never see their open-up attacks coming because after all the whole thief class is designed to rely on surprise element to win.

Just figure I start organizing and asking for 3 people to be on the Official Review Board just like last time.

Now Natsu Dragneel already confirmed with me on his interest.
So I need to look out for 2 more.
What I’m looking for in a ORB member:
- having a good wealth of knowledge about the class.
