I just dont’ see the difference and I actually tested it. You need to throw your torch to do the damage.
I’m not sure where you reach the conclusion.
torch 4 1909+2109(3.5 sec burning)
focus 5 2121 damage
focus 4 424 + 424
I’m not sure how focus 5 works. Does it always explode at 4 second or if it block 3 times?
anyway I dont’ think it really matter. focus have block that’s way better than torch most of the time for average player.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
so this means if you want to craft one of the new legendaries twice you cant?
because you cant only make the precursor once and precursors that others found are not tradeable?
and mystic toilet is no option ofc
or will only the crafted new precursors be not tradeable
but normally dropped new precursors will be tradeable?
you can still get it as a drop or you can mystic forge to gamble it. So you can get 2 of the same new legendary if that’s what you wish.
It’s just the chance of you getting the precursor you want is quite low, so mystic forge is probably the only option.
a better question is why do you want to get 2 of the same legendary. Besides you can just get another legendary of the same weapon type and apply the skin if you really want that legendary.
does it mean it’ll be “really” expensive for gambling seller.
Since if people want to gamble precursor to sell, they’ll have 50% chance to get a precursor they can’t sell.
So basically only people who actually want the precursor can gamble.
oh wow. so many people bought transmutation charge.
no one even know what the meta is for revenant. hammer might be terrible for spvp that no one use it anyway.
Just wait and see. Too hard to predict.
I can’t believe on the results. I thought it’ll be 100% yes 0% no.
That being said, I have a few hundred transmuation charge, so the answer is probably a no eventhough I voted yes.
So at least you can use torch. But 99% of the people use focus instead. I think only those pro players in pro group use torch.
Nope. Torch have a better dps than Focus only in longer fight, something that almost never happen with a good speed run group. Torch is mostly use by solo/duo when you need more fire to trigger trait that give 10% dmg when foes have fire on them.
But for pugs in general Focus or Torch, choice whatever you prefer.
is it even true? was watching a 20 minutes full fractal speed run and the guardian use torch. I’m pretty sure those speed run people are quite pro. I can’t find the video. I think it’s from rq or qt.
I dotn’ know if it’s true, I just assume that’s the best build because the pro people use it.
edit: base on my very unaccurate test, I would say it’s roughly the same. you need to wait for focus 5 to explode which take a few second with 45 second cooldown. Torch is 12 second cool down where you throw it. sceptor also have 4 skill which on single target hit 2 times(4 bounce), torch have some burning after.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
well the meta is berserker gear using greatsword, sword/sceptor and torch.
So at least you can use torch. But 99% of the people use focus instead. I think only those pro players in pro group use torch.
most of your dps is still going to come from direct damage. But for max dps you’ll need to use torch.
Tp flipping is basically buy items using buy order and relisting them using sell order.
You can also craft items which is basically complicated flipping.
Some of the pros claim they can make 50 gold per hour just crafting. I’m not sure how true it that. But it shouldn’t be hard to find a few items and make 5 gold every hour with a few minutes of work. Basically spend a few minutes to craft and sell, go do other things. And recraft the item again when it sell(which usually take an hour).
The thing with crafting is the profit is usually 15-20%. so to make 5 gold, you need to invest like 50 gold. And to be sure your item sell, you are better of selling items in the 10% profit margin. The problem is if you are really aggressive and don’t let other people sell, they’ll get aggressive and undercut you too.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/19vcri/a_guide_to_make_money_through_crafting/
From time to time the rare weapon market crafting become really good and you can just stay in town all day crafting rare greatsword, staff or dagger and make huge profit. People mostly use it to gamble precursor. It’s not always profitable, but from time to time you can make like 30 gold per hour just doing that. People with 10 account can probably make much more. So keep a close eye on it.
Maize balm farming is basically buy a bunch of maize balm and go to “selected area” where there is critter and use the maize blam on the critter kill it and you can get treak or treat bag. Here is an example location in video below. Some people go to bloodtide coast, there are other area etc. Usually it is better to do with people so to cut down the coast of maize balm. There is also the problem that there are other people doing the farm too, so not always reliable.
SW chest farm is basically buy a bunch of bandit key. find a map where people farm treasure chest. Use the LFG system
There is also the black lion key farm. Which might depend on some luck. Just google it.
You can even farm skill point. Just use low level character gain a few level and do skill challenge. (That being said, SW chest farm are much better because you also get skill point from champ bag, and other loot too). The catch with skill point is you need to have a good way to convert it. I’m not sure on the market right now. Previously you can make as much 3-4 gold per skill point just converting tier 1 material. Anyhow keep an eye on Bronze ingot and tier 1 wood promotion, because when it is profitable, it is “very” profitable. But I think that market crashed now. There are still exotic weapons you can craft which give you 1+ gold per skill point, but the catch is those weapons are expensive, and you have a chance to get undercut. You can also craft legendary weapon to sell. But the market isn’t tight right now. I think the tier 1 promotion market crash cause the legendary market to crash too. And unless you already have the map completion and karma, it is usually not worth farming it. You can just convert the skill point using one of the exotic weapon to money.
Mining rich iron and platinum ore is ok too. But the catch is you need “watchwork mining pick” to maximize your profit. If you are really in to mining it’s a good idea to make shortcut to the WP location close to the mining node. Below is the WP code I use on my route, just copy and paste it in game. If you are a serious miner, I suggest you buy the watchwork mining pick if it is on sell.

dungeon run is good too, usually do cof, AC, SE. The easy ones if you run in pug.
Some people also use buy order for rare sigil or rune. and use it to mystic forge for a chance of expensive superior rune. The money on it is just ok. And you really need patient clicking through all those sigil and rune.
If you are new to the game. Run the easy dungeon is probably the best way to make money and less boring too. If you have more time do some SW farm some bandit crest and find a map to farm champ bag. Trading post flipping is where the big money is at, but you need to spend time learning the market yourself. I’m not into it myself. I usually just spend a couple minutes and make a few gold per day on it and that’s it.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
TP flipping > Maize balm farm > dungeon speed run > SW chest farm > mining > farm legendary to sell.
Probably in that order.
I don’t think it matters. Most pug is slower than the solo dungeon world record.
I doubt necro’s bad dps have that much to do with slow dungeon run.
That being said, obviously don’t bring necro to speed run. Since 2-3 slots is filled with ele.
You are comparing a mmorpg to single player game with 30 hours of play time.
Most of us have more than 30 hours of play times in gw2.
So what’s been keeping people here for the last few years?
Really the thing I liked best about this game was that lack of vertical progression, the fact that my characters were more or less always ready to do stuff once I set them up initially. This new system is quite frankly a bunch of crap as far as I’m concerned. They made a bold step in a new direction and now they’re taking the easy rode and falling back into line with the other MMOs by giving us the tried and true time sinks to extend the duration of content… such crap.
you’ll probably finish all the mastery in a month anyway.
I ended up tossing away a bunch of dragonite ore, fractal ring etc.
I understand people think it’s a good idea to keep those item, but you can make use of those inventory space to store other items too.
So can someone explain to me what most people in this thread mean with “support guardian”? Because I don’t get it. To me “support guardian” sounds like saying “wet water” or “round wheel”.
So what is a “support guardian” and how is it different from other guardians in terms of supporting the team?
I’m not sure what he is talking about. But guardian by itself is a support class. “reflect, healing, aegis” etc. Just like warrior people think of banner, ele people think of ice bow, thief blind.
you can trait and gear for max dps 4/6/2/0/2 and you are still expected to be a support class.
If you are really that good, you’ll be my idle Archie.
I run fractal almost everyday and I have problem avoiding the boss’s attack.
Usually someone carried me when I die, on some rare occasion I carried other player when they are downed.
If you are really that good, tell other people you’ll solo the boss without agony when the other people died. Unless you can do it every single time, you are probably not as good as you think you are.
You say it is ok to play without agony “because you don’t have any”. But I doubt you’ll be happy if other people don’t have any and you are stuck in a fractal for a couple of hours.
dude you have no agony. That’s probably the main problem.
Even if you shelter/block every attack, you’ll still take damage from agony.
The boss stomp is an agony attack you’ll take damage regardlessly.
I dont’ even know why you do 10-19 without AR. You should get 1 ring by the time you get to 10. And you can get 5 AR from cheaply crafted exotic backpiece.
And since it is a low level fractal. The reason you probably die so easy is probably because of the agony.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
you mean molten duo?
I was doing fractal 50, and some guy expect we can muscle it down with no ele, no PS warrior. Needless to say the guy died when the boss stomp a single time.
Even people who can kill it in 10 second need to jump (sometimes).
You need to kill 2 bounties for tier 1 right?
It might be possible if everyone in the group memorize every single bounty route. Which is quite hard to do. I have a hard time memorizing 1 route.
You can also pre search a few bounties and hope you get lucky and get the one you needed. I’m not sure how many of the bounties it is possible to kill with 4 people.
You can also try opening a public bounty, I seen people do that before. Open up lfg and say public guild bounty, anyone welcome.
If you really want to unlock rush/trek etc. My advice is find other guild in the position too and help each other out. People can join multiple guild so that shouldn’t be a problem.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
even my personal guild is lvl 5.
I don’t think the influence is a big deal. You’ll probably have more problem with not enough people doing the mission.
being a guild leader isn’t easy. I watch my guild leader spend half of his online time just recruiting or organizing guild. And if the guild leader or officer isn’t active, the guild usually go down hill.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
I think you have the same stats.
But the difference you have more primary stats with crafted backpiece. But the 2 secondary stats have less stats. The total is the same.
Since many people go for power as primary stats. The crafted backpiece is probably better.
exotic backpiece + ruby orb
22+20=42
16+14=30
16+14=30
crafted backpiece + 65 orb
32+14 = 46
18+10=28
18+10=28
I’m not sure if you can use exquisite orb in exotic lvl80 backpiece. You can have more stats if it is possible.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
It’s about right. You can check gw2spidy, they calculated the cost.
You can probably shed 10 gold per piece of armor if you craft the material yourself.
probably solo dungeon or breaking the speed run record of sort.
I tried solo dungeon a few times. It’s quite fun. That being said, it’s not really rewarding unless you sell dungeon path, which is something I dont’ enjoy doing.
If you are good though, you can probably solo a dungeon faster than most pug, and you don’t need to wait for people.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
I dont’ know but even if you are not making it now, you should probably try to get the material now.
silk price spike a bit over the past month, I suspect the new class might have something to do with it.
Unless there are events that drop the price like wintersday, it’s probably going to stay up for a while.
Many people are probably joking. So even if people tell you they are new, they might not be.
And for some strange reason many people have 2nd account for pvp. I have no idea why, but I see people do it.
I always thought those full server are just there to prevent over flooding of wvw. Some server have really long queue time.
if you dont’ wvw. it doesn’t matter which server your from, you can always play with your friend.
I actually tried everything, scepter/sword/mace/focus, but always go back to staff.
Usually I try to stay in greatsword as much as possible. But there are times when the elemental are just too spread out or my binding blade is down, and it is better to hide inside wall and range the elementals.
I mostly pug, and there are times people focusing too much on poping the bubble, they didn’t kill much elemental and died. And there is nothing I can do to get through it. So I always focus on the elemental, since usually someone will go for the bubble anyway.
Can’t you pop bubble by simply keeping him targetted and cleaving elementals with non targetted attacks? Like keep the bubble targetted and swipe at the elementals that are nearby.
IIRC it’s not damage that pops it but enough actions.
I actaully dont’ want to pop the bubble asap. If you read the guide in gw2dungeon.net (and I agree with him), you want to delay popping the bubble and kill as many elemental before you pop the bubble.
Thus it’s a good idea if a warrior pin down or elementalist forzen ground the shaman, and people focusing clearing as much elemental as possible.
That being said if your group is good, this dont’ matter.

I’m wondering what build people use for it.
I’m using (6,7)(6,7)(5)(0)(5,6)
healing breeze, purging flame, wall of reflection, shield of avenger, tome of courage
staff/greatsword. Have a sigil of purification on staff.
I’m really having problem with the boss’s searing arrow, as I have problem dodging and the condition really hurt and for some reason I have problem cleansing it even using purging flame.
I don’t think you can play the new class. So it’s already there.
I’m not sure if you can play the specialist if you don’t own the expansion.
It take about 3 hours of dungeon running to buy an episode, so I dont’ think it’s a big deal.
I wish they add in the option too. I just don’t know if Anet willing to let us do it for “cheap”.
You can just craft another set of gear, but having the ability to swap without changing gear is more convenient and can save some inventory space.
It’s already there. People just won’t spend money to do it (crafting another set of gear).
My take is since there will be no new tiers. Making additional set is there is used as sink.
I seemed to do fine on my minion mancer.
Then again I’m a noob so I kind of play with in the low MMR bracket.
If you are always targeted with no teamates backup, you might as well play a bunker.
:-\ That is a lot of gold lost of if you just copperfed(probably ~3gold over the whole tour.) That perma merch basically pays for itself in 3months if you tour everyday.
do people even sell leather etc? It’s just pocket change to me.
I just salvage everything to be honest.
I actually have 2 permanent merchant myself. The price havn’t varied much on the TP over the years, I think the reason is you really only need 1 of this item.
The permanent bank is going up in price though, I think maybe due to the new class. I actually just bought a permanent bank a month ago because of revenant.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
you can just get a copper fed salvage.
as for trash that worth a few copper you can just toss it away.
I usually just do that if I’m in a hurry
Quite honestly you guys must be very serious dungeon farmer if there is absolutely no downtime. Most of the times, there are people going afk for phones, doors, moms, dogs, or bathroom.
After reading over the post, I do agree that ascended armor crafting for light classes seems unfair mainly because Damask is so freaking expensive. I’m wondering if this would work to bring up both Deldrimor and Elonian prices as an alternative to your solution Wanze:
New Recipes (Chest,Legs,Helmet,Shoulder, Gloves, Boots):
Light:
32 Damask (18 for the insignias)(3+3+2+2+2+2)
8 Elonian for the armor pieces(2+2+1+1+1+1)
Medium:
18 Damask (18 for the insignias)
22 Elonian for the armor pieces(5+5+3+3+3+3)
Heavy:
18 Damask (18 for the insignias)
22 Deldrimor for the armor pieces(5+5+3+3+3+3)EDIT: Making millions of errors, and its hard balancing the Damask/Elonian into light armor crafting (per piece)
Probably not, the big difference is you need 100 bolt of silk per damask and only 50 leather square per Elonian. So you are still comsuming 4 times more silk in your table.
Probably try to stay positive. I find that more important than anything.
Try not to care too much about win or loss or the scoreboard.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
how useful is it besides trios. Since you keep talking about it.
I think the whole idea is if you play for 100 hours you’ll probably make enough money to buy a set of ascended armor.
Because just about anything in this game gives you gold. At least for pve. Dedicated wvw players probably spend more money on siege than making money. spvp gives some money but not comparable to pve.
Hope it dont’ backfire and Anet increase the damask cost of heavy and leather armor.
What kind of non sequitur bullcrap fear-mongering is this? Seriously.
I knew it won’t end well when I said that. I don’t think Anet will kitten their player off since many dont’ seemed too happy with silk price now.
But I dont’ think it’s entirely impossible Anet raise the heavy/leather armor cost while lowering the light armor cost as compromise.
I’m not sure how much high level fractal you do recently.
But quite honestly most of the people still doing high level fractal (eg 38, 50) are quite good.
Almost all the pug dungeon/fractal are much better compare to 1-2 years ago. If you haven’t actually tried it, I suggest you give it a go.
The last time someone complained about over supplied item “silk” we see what Anet does.
I suggest people don’t complain about leather unless they actually want the price to increase.
I always thought overtime the price of silk should decrease as there are less people needing ascended armor. But apparently it does not.
The new class probably paid some contribution to the silk price right now just like how the price suddenly spike when Anet release ascended armor collection.
If Anet want to decrease the price of silk they probably already do it. So It’s possible Anet will increase the requirement for heavy/leather armor while decrease requirement for light armor.
I do think Anet should balance out the cost between different armor type though.
Hope it dont’ backfire and Anet increase the damask cost of heavy and leather armor.
There are a few ways to make it easier.
Like play a guardian, since reflect makes a few boss easier. Wear normad/cleric for Mai Trin and just keep rezing your dead teamates. If you have problem with molten duo, just switch to a ranger and pew pew at 1500 range.
(edited by laokoko.7403)
I’m really torn if I should use leeching sigil on Maw.
It save a couple minutes. And I usually use karma booster so saving those extra few minutes helps.
What’s people’s opinion.
if I whirling wrath and press save yourself after. Do the rest of my whirling wrath have fury?
Or should I make sure I have fury before I whirling wrath.
Also should I turn on or off “promote skill target” for pve and pvp.
Crafting is basically complicated flipping. Which is very profitable
There is just no standard SOP on what to craft to make money.
For example I can craft item xxx which make 1 gold profit. And if I get aggressive I can craft 10 and make 10 gold in 30 seconds. But the problem is if I get aggressive another person might not be happy and massive craft and undercut. So you need to target a variety of market.
I’m not much of a trader but I’ve been making 3 gold everyday just by taking a few second of my time and craft this item xxx. If I look hard enough there should be more similar item.
I thought this was going to be about Recipe: Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash Soup
A recipe I listed 6 months ago at 99 gold 99 silver just sold over the weekend. Somebody is trying to manipulate that market too.
Felt sad no one bother with Plate of Frostgorge Clams. But I suppose no one use toughness/power compare to power/ferocity.
Just like I bought some shadow of grenth while wings of dwayna is the one that go up in price.
I guess how useful the item is make big difference.
ok for science and I did some testing too.
Basically you need 500,000 luck. Which requires you to salvage about 19.6 stacks of ecots.
If we assume you use silver fed salvage kit(60 copper per use), and you resold your crystalline dust(15% tax loss). you’ll loss about 9.17 gold per stack of ecto salvage.
So you’ll need roughly 180 gold
There are work way around where you spend almost 0 gold, but it is really tedious. For every stack of ecto you can get roughly 7 stack of first tier essence and about 8000 luck of higher tier essence. So if you salvage 62 stack of ecto and sell roughly 400 greater ram lantern you’ll spned 0 gold.
You can probably spend 30 minutes everyday buying cheap blue and green to salvage and it should take you about 10 days without spending any gold to reach 1-150. (results may vary, as I did it a long time ago and market may changed)
