I know I’ll get barked at by the TP hounds but, JS should have had mechanisms in place to curtail high volume trading from launch. Just having a storage capacity limit on the TP would have been enough. Forcing a player to take physical ownership of items purchased would have limited high volume trading.

Whats wrong with high volume trading?

I don’t know i thought you were playing a game, not some stock exchange simulator….

That’s what wrong with high volume trading in a nutshell.

I must be confused… the TP is not part of the game?

Maybe a high volume PvP game limiter too? Automatically logs you out and prevents you from playing another PvP match if you do too many in a row?

Or a HoT map limiter. Your health steadily decreases the longer you play PvE until you just die over and over and over. Only way to reset it is to log out for 6 hours?

I’m sorry i personally don’t consider playing the trading post as part of the game.

It’s a feature meant to facilitate the trades of goods. It’s not there for a select few people manipulate to the point the market destabilizes for normal consumption.

If you honestly find fun in the trading post and manipulating it, no one can stop you but honestly you may want to find another hobby.

I never really like that too. But quite honestly if you don’t like farming or paying real cash, the TP is really the only other way you could afford expensive items in this game.

Just like where I live the average pay is 4$ an hour but a tiny apartment could cost 700,000$. It seemed I could only hope the stocks I bought turned out good. Because no one will be able to afford an apartment where I live with just average pay.

Holy crap…where do you live that avg pay is $4 and apartments are 700k?

taipei, at least i don’t live in hongkong. I think the main problem is taiwan is a small island, and the infrastructure isn’t really well build besides the major city. Just like hongkong housing price is so expensive because people there really don’t have anywhere else to move out to.

quite honestly you are better of mining than doing teq for ascended weapon.

that being said mining is pretty boring. the side benefit of teq is you get karma and spirit shard from champ bag.

but purely speaking, you’ll get ascended weapon much much faster from just mining

nothing is expensive in this game. If you are missing 2 piece just farm 1 hour a day and you’ll be done in 2 weeks.

What’s expensive is there are so many things you could “possibly” get. If you just give up everything else and focus on 1 set of ascended armor it is pretty cheap.

I don’t think it’s expensive to get 1 set.

But it is really expensive if you get multiple sets for alt. Or worse, get multiple sets of the same thing just to put different rune and sigil in it.

probably doesn’t matter as long as you have an autoclick mouse.

that is if you don’t mind breaking the rule.

but you can only sell whats in your bags, so you can just sell 160 stacks max, while having an autoclicker set up.

if that’s painful. just imagine how painfull it is selling 10 stack and you have to wait.

What's going on with WvW rewards?

How would they up the rewards in WvW and still avoid farming though? They had that incident in the JP area where the different servers were farming players by killing each other in turn. High enough rewards might end up with zergs farming zergs for drops and gold.

Its really easy actually. Add in participation rewards just like they have in DT, SW, and the HoT maps. Keep the normal rewards as those match up with everything in PVE maps while building participation. Make all events give participation and those completed events that have actual PvP combat during them give more participation. So if you take a defended POI you get more participation then if you take one that is not defended. For defending POIs give participation only when defending from other players but do not give any for just AFKing in one. And lastly make PPT have an affect on participation so servers will be tryring to get those ticks high.

The rewards can be better. Arenanet just needs to take the time to make it happen.

How would that stop zergs going in a circle with the 3 different server zergs following each other and taking spots in turn? They could always make sure each spot is defended for maximum benefit. Then they could meet somewhere for a big fight to farm for PvP points.

I’m not saying that WvW doesn’t have a reward problem, but the farming impulse is strong and people can find a way to farm once the rewards are good enough. Any reward system will have to be carefully planned to keep WvW from turning into farming, as I guarantee people will be looking for a way to farm WvW.

People ask for better WvW rewards, and ANet might just give it to them.

why does it even matter. at least there are people that way.

quite honestly wvw have been so dead. anyway to get more people is better than an empty map.

As long as there are people who believe WvW loot has to be awful in order to prevent Karma trains, our loot will remain a mass of blues and greens.
Realistically, a well thought out reward system could encourage competitive gameplay, as well as give us a means to get gear and skins that are PvE exclusive and ascended gear.

I go to wvw to farm badge of honor.

I don’t think it matters if wvw turn into karma train.

but I’d like to see how a rewrding system could encourage competitive play. because if it’s so easy one of the RvR game would do it already.

Many things sounds great on paper. But no one have actually make it work yet.

I play wvw when I want to pvp and gather ranks, I play other content when I want to gather gold. Sorted.

Yes…I feel obliged to run fractals, meta events, sw, etc to have enough money to sustain my fun on WvW. This is not fair.

why? you don’t need gold for wvw.

Why not? I need gold as any pve player…I need to equip, I need to buy food, sieges, invest on WvW upgrades on the Guild Hall, etc

you should try Eotm.

you might say… well I want to wvw not Eotm.

Maybe if WvW have good rewards it’ll turn into Eotm.

I think Anet should make WvW more self sustainable, and make more WvW specific rewards. eg. wvw only guild hall. That’s probably a better direction.

I don’t even know how they would add rewards in swvw.

If you give rewards for objective, it’ll just turn into rounding circle. Kind of like EOTM.

If you give rewards for player kill, it’ll just turn into kill trading.

If you give rewards for defending, people’ll just afk in tower.

And I’m not even talking about GW2. Pretty much every RvsR game I have played turned into farming when players care more about rewards than winning.

And I dont’ even know why people care about winning in WvW. It felt kind of pointless to me. The only time I care about winning in other RvsR game is once when you win. You actually get some sort of rewards like fight in some new zones.

Why did they call this game "casual "

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: laokoko.7403

laokoko.7403

I think the problem is best way to farm in GW2 is to grind the same thing over and over again. In fact once you find the most efficient farm, you stay there forever, for example silver waste.

In other mmorpg you at least change what you are grinding once in a while. For example grind 100 hours in one area, and once you get stronger you grind in another area.

To me this is the very difference between playing hard core and playing casual. Why would a casual player optimize their gold per hour? Why is that even the agenda of a casual player.

I want to make the bat shoulder piece from Halloween. I got the Halloween stuff to make it that I needed, mostly bought from the TP pretty cheaply. But I’m nowhere near making it. I’m saving up to make linseed oil. I don’t want to buy it, so I’m farming flax. That means sometimes, I get over to the flax farm when I think about it. Maybe it’ll take me another six months to make it, but so what. I’m casual. I’m not running any races.

If you think farming the Silverwastes over and over to make gold is a casual activity, you and I have VERY different ideas about the nature of casual game play.

Probably why some people felt Guild Wars 2 is the grindest game ever. They spent their entire time optimizing gold per hour.

I’m a farmer myself. But I still try to avoid farms that are too boring.

I try to find things that are fun(or at least less boring) and make money at the same time.

Okay so let’s make up some hypothetical scenario:

person A: says some rather vulgar things to you, maybe wishes you and your family all get aids/cancer and die, and ALSO proceeds to make a real irl death threat

You: …

Now I really just want to gather what you lot “suggest” happens in this scenario as an example. Do you block them and hope for the best they don’t see it through? I appreciate some will just say “block and report” but are you honestly telling me that’s all you would do? or that it’s acceptable to let them go and maybe do that to another person?

There’s not enough detail in the example. What do you consider an irl death threat?
If you consider it to be credible (i.e. they know your real name/address) you would go to the police first and foremost.

Also, why do you need a hypothetical example? You said you had hundreds of cases. Why not present just one of those, with the names altered?

I do not believe they need to be extremely detailed is why. It’s the core of it I’m trying to get noticed in this thread at the moment at least. Police is a good answer for the more extreme cases. But I think that in the meantime, and certainly, for less immediate threat cases, ArenaNet could look at other options just in general to make things nicer for everyone, even if it’s in a good place for you right now. The one and only idea I have put forward right now is simply thrown out there, non-payed player support is viable I believe. Priveledges can be revoked or dished out at anytime by ArenaNet themselves ofcourse to players they’ve decided to entrust. Any abuse of power can, much like the other game, be looked into and promptly stopped via their current system they have with tickets and the like.

Why do you need it?

Anet already give tiny punishment to those people if you report them.

Some thing like remove their chat priveleage. or a short account suspension.

if you give power to players they might abuse it.

One last thing is obviously the server with strong night time loss at day time.

Since if they are stong in both day and night. They will be much higher in ranking.

Now if you use some algorithm to limit the points in night time, those strong night time will get push down the ranks.

The end result is those server with strong night group will fight even worser opponent at night.

I think the worst problem with WvW is most people quit if they are lossing. Maybe the problem with your server is there would be some people at night. It’s just that people don’t even bother to try if they are lossing.

The thing is WvW is never fair. What does day and night even have anything to do with the topic.

Even if my server loss at day time. That’s because of population imbalance too.

Even if it’s not population imbalance, my server loss because the players sucks.

You might say well, your server should loss since your players are bad.

My response is obviously since all the wvw guild jumped ship to join another server. Not to mention other server actually pay for transfer fees so top WvW guild on my server can transfer.

If you care that much about WvW find people to defend at night time.

Weather there should be decreased points for night capping that’s for Anet to decided.

It’s okay i know the crowd saying it’s all speculation will just come argue semantics. They are two sides of the same coin.

It doesn’t apply in this case as they were simply buying up supply to sell at a later point in time when the believe prices will rise. You can argue that it’s semantics but the differences are important.

believe means inside information, which isn’t speculate.

I think you mean guess the price will go up.

If you guys really want a lower price then you should be campaigning to reduce the price of T3-5 dust. There are millions and millions of lower tier crystals that are flooding the market, but they can’t be upgraded because dust is too expensive.

Instead of asking for flat out price nerfs that will never happen in 1000 years, look for the root causes of the prices, in this case, dust, and ask for the drop rate there to be changed.

Of course the devs already know this, which is why radiant dust has dropped 50% in price the last month since its drop rate was adjusted. Now they just need to add another source and do similar things for T3 and 5 dust.

This is the best suggestion so far.

yes + incandescent dust direct drop from something + orbs/crests as perma drop from dungeon chest

Incandescent dust actually does have a few direct drops from things. I made the mistake thinking that it didn’t. Ascalonian ghosts in Fireheart Rise have a decent drop rate. They also have what seems like a fairly quick respawn.

I tried farming there. I think the rate is about 80 dust per hour. Which equals to about 4 gold + junk.

At least one good thing coming out of all this is it’s more profitable mining orichalcum ore now.

“Oil is tied to the dollar, not the other way around. If the dollar strengthens, oil drops. However, if oil drops it doesn’t strengthen a weak dollar except in the most tangential way.”

to that.

If countries start buying and selling oil with other currencies, the Dollar will grow weak, demand for dollars will drop

I don’t think the oil price would suddenly cause people to change currencies. Not to mention there is enough US dollar outside of US.

Are you guys discussing the rise of gem<→gold price?

I’m pretty sure according to the ToS. Using a program to “alert” you through the API is legal. Meaning for example if an item move to certain price, the API beep you a sound.

People may say it gives advantage, but that’s what API is for, to give people advantage. That’s say a wvw camp flipped, there are API alraming you that certain camp is flipped.

But I think the problem is there are definitely really weird things going on. My person experience is people seemed to be able to do things on the TP so fast it seemed only possible through automation.

If I try to sell an item x to the lowest buy order, it instantly refresh another buy order with the same price. It’s definitely something weird. Either a bug or glitch or something weird.

Also no point prove is there are bots. Google have the answer to everything.

And lastly, I dont’ think people need to worry about GW2, seemed they can do just fine with the cash shop. They already are.

I don’t even think it is a big deal just 1 person can hoard 50 shields. I think people are making too much a deal out of it.

I’m a person with 20k gold and 1 legendary. Perfect example. Some other guy I know bought 100 shadow great sword. There are people like that out there.

Or there is some mysterious force that start generating this shield some where. It is a good thing anyway. People can get it cheaper now. Most investor who got it early made money already anyway. So the only person got hurt out of this is the people who invested late. Or bought it too expensive for themselves before.

If I sell a legendary I won’t relist it as it will cost me over 100g. I will be glad to see the bot wasting gold on this I have several expensive items on the TP, but I won’t relist them, I consider them to be long term investments.

so what exactly are you talking about. you quote my response which talk about removing tp tax.

Sounds more like a bug or a “quirk” to me. Bots would probably focus on bigger profits.

or they have hundrefs of different market which makes a big market.
