Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
but real life war wouldn’t have any of those things
and like you said they’re all put in to balance wvw so I don’t understand your argument
No, they put it to stop people from making it impossible to even join WvW for a bad server.
You are just being silly.
if they don’t want it to be balanced then why are all the maps so symmetrical
why is there a population limit
why are they talking about changing outmanned to favour the smaller side
why are there breakout events
why is the main spawn area on every map a safe zone where you can’t die
why are there righteous indignation buffs on npcs
All the maps are identical because making mechanical imbalances is extremely silly and stupid.
Because servers can’t handle unlimited amount of people?
Because it would be stupid to favor the bigger side with an outmanned buff?
Because it is boring to not have a single tower in a map and being unable to retake anything due to the other server being bigger/stronger
Because dying as soon as you enter a makitten illy.
Because you get points for flipping camps, and constantly flipping a camp back and forth between servers would destroy the whole point-system.
ANet said a lot of things before release lol
And yet they still keep saying it, so clearly that is how it currently is meant to be.
War isn’t fair, simply accept it or don’t participate.
Simply can’t work, because mobs scale with amount of players in the area and such, and it would look very silly if an enemy suddenly went from 100 HP to 150 without the ability to actually heal.
I can’t come up with a response sarcastic enough to properly reply to that comment, sorry.
Suffice to say I have seen the “games need to be like real life” argument so many times and every time it gets shot down because it’s horrible for gameplay.
I’ll just say real life isn’t balanced, and therefore modelling a game on real life will make the game imba. And imba games are not fun to play for the losing side.
But you are ignoring the fact that ArenaNet have stated since before release of the game that WvW is not MEANT to be balanced.
ya because real life war is so much fun
Nope, not in any way or form, but that does not mean that WvW should not behave like real war.
WvW was never meant to be balanced, it was meant to actually imitate real warfare as much as possible, and I am rather sure that in real wars both sides are not exactly equal.
Some time in the future?
Most likely. Nothing said about it though.
still OP has a point, I’d like to see dungeons like this. uw, fow come to mind mostly
Of course, I simply stated that they still technically are explorable, since you actually explore stuff, even if they are not open-ended.
Which is quite funny because it is all quite well-connected if you simply pay attention.
I think the main issue is that people need to get the story thrown in their face to bother with it.
Hehe, we are just doing our job
Nice rewards, remind me why I dont do any dungeons except for fractals.
It is called DR and means you won’t get full rewards by doing the same 10 minute path for several hours every day.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with people making suggestions before Anet actually starts the coding.
People aren’t really making suggestions for most part though, they are demanding a refund, even without knowing how the system will be changed.
Well that’s MMORPG. I read the official blog and I didn’t see this mentioned at all in the blog post.
So MMORPG simply made up answers made by Colin then?
There are usually some deeper information in the articles surrounding a blog/preview than the actual blog/preview
Culling did not exist in first beta weekends. And it was obviously a fixed number of people you could see on your screen. This fixed amount, the variable, was implemented by Anet.
Oh, I am fully aware that Culling was added by ArenaNet.
I am simply questioning his reason that it was “because they wanted to save money on servers”.
It will contain new achievements, which can be seen with this part of the preview page:
Complete the Gnashblade Supporter and Kiel Supporter meta achievements to unlock a miniature Evon Gnashblade and Ellen Kiel of your very own!
I liked the part in the lates blog where they referenced to devons 6,5 month old blog about WvW.
Seems like its not worth mentioning what you are really working on. Just suprisees like the really, really usefull traps.
Now my math isn’t the best in the world, but I am rather sure that June 5 was not 6,5 months ago.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/devon-carver-on-the-future-of-world-vs-world/
I would like to make a counter-request:
Make said pigs have a constant determinate buff so that they can break up and destroy things like this, taking up slots and losing points for the real WvW:ers.
it also shows very clearly in the skill lag which we’ve had for almsot a year now.
So no actual source then?
Culling was a “feature” made to reduce server cost and they were hell bent on not removing until the whole of community constantly made a noise about it for 6 months straight.
u really think they are about the game running on old computers, what exactly the part of " Best artistic MMO available" which guild wars 2 prides itself in made u think about that?
Source for that statement? Or do you only assume that was the case?
There were after all several stages and tests of Culling Removal, which would imply that they work actually trying to get a good solution for it.
Yes, they are actually working quite a bit to make the game playable on medium to low-end computers, which is shown quite clearly by the usage of DirectX9 instead of 10 or 11.
Character-bound skill trees?
Also respeccing WvW abilities would be nice.
Yep, but the question is if that would work if they made the rank account-bound?
We do not know how the ranking system is built after all.
The main issue with account-bound however is the fact that people would be using different characters for different stuff, which would make the point-spending quite hard.
^ You do know that the current living story arc have been going on since January, right?
Why not wait until we actually know how they will change it before demanding stuff?
I wonder what they are doing, always superbusy yet nothing major updates has ever came out. No new maps no nothing.
WvW rank system? To me it seems like a system made up in few days. Still they are adding new masterys and while doing it not resetting the actual points like they should. You spent your points to something, they add something new, points should be reset every single time something new is added, that’s the basic line doing things.
RNG? Again something made up very fast. This was quick fix which came way too late to help awful server variations.
Culling? Yea it’s nice they finally removed bug from the game that shouldn’t exist from the beginning. Servers still can’t handle WvW as it is planned, horrible skillag makes it unplayable at times.Oh yeah and they removed the orb from the game leaving all the altars and orb places there standing alone doing nothing like in chernobyl.
Maybe I’m too negative, sorry about that!
You show a rather clear lack of understanding of development with this post.
The WvW ranking system most likely took quite some time, especially with balancing the points and so on and so forth.
Same with culling, the fact that it took quite some time to remove would suggest that the change was a bit more than just “a few days work”.
Culling was not a bug, it was a feature added to help people with bad computers play the game, even with many people at the same place.
No.
The reason why it is called explorable is simply because you are exploring what happened to the place after the story mode was concluded.
Different does not equal inferior or superior I feel the need to say that again even after I said that each map can have advantages and disadvantages, kind of like the Eternal Battlegrounds keeps, it would require some effort on Anet’s part. Furthermore, nothing in this game is “exactly balanced” and I seriously don’t think any sane person is looking for that so please stop making it seem like varying BLs can’t work. And that is all I have to say on the matter.
Of course, but no matter how much they work on it, one map WILL be slightly better.
Or they could have spent time you know, developing and testing maps each with their own pros and cons. Different != inferior.
Creating a game mode with the propensity for outrageous imbalance like WvWvW then saying the BL maps are the same for the sake of balance does not wash.
And yet if there are difference there WILL be one map that is better than the others.
It is completely impossible to make 3 non-identical maps exactly balanced.
So please tell me what exactly is being balanced with having identical maps? The core design already creates great imbalance, I’m sure they considered that population/coverage issues would happen yet the three servers get the same map when they were not equal to begin with.
Lets say there are three different maps.
Map A is superior to map B and C, that would mean the server with map A as home-border would have a distinct, mechanical, advantage simply because they were lucky enough to get the best map.
Ah yes, got that one a couple of months back as well ^^
Was quite confused when people started asking to join me.
Not really something that can be done on these forums though, since the LFG-site is not official.
There is nothing that implies that the requirements for Legendaries will change with the new crafting materials.
/giggle
But they said that WvWvW was supposed to be the opposite of that, what with the terribly lopsided populations and night capping and all
Unbalanced due to population/skill != unbalanced due to actual mechanics.
The previous three living stories (Best contents of the game so far after release) all have stayed exactly 2 weeks and no longer than that…
The last three living stories have been:
Dragonbash
Sky Pirates
Bazaar
Dragonbash stayed for a MONTH
Sky Pirates did stay for two weeks, true.
Bazaar will most likely stay about a month as well (since the voting seems to take place there).
Already?
They stated during the post in January that we would get more (all?) ascended pieces this year, and since we haven’t gotten them yet, it would be quite logical that we would get the during the next six months, right?
As far as I remember the vast majority of the temporary content have stayed longer than 2 weeks.
New release != removal of old stuff.
As for unlocking as you go, that would work if the game was instanced, that is however not the case, so people can’t really be at different storylines at the same time.
They are most likely talking about major updates in term of development needs and such.
The removal of culling most likely took MASSIVE amount of time to get right, same with the progression system.
What is this universe you live in? I chuckle everytime I see someone actually believing this.
And yet you have never actually provided any kind of proof that it is not the case.
The winner will be based on the amount of tokens he/she receives, and each player can submit as many tokes as the wish/can get their hands on.
So, just because they didn’t outright state that they will add challenging content that means they won’t?
As far as I remember they didn’t tell us about even half the stuff added the first half of the year in that post made half a year ago.
None was aking for new gear tier. Do not implement the ascended gear. Please, don’t!
Also there are so many questions around this new – are we going to be able to insert runes in those? Are they going to have a new design? Are we going to see new runes in the game (i.e. the most expensive runes are going to became obsolete)?! Etc. etc. etc…
Actually some where.
But I don’t really see the point of your post. Ascended gear already exists in the game, it is not a “new gear tier” it haven’t been since back in November when they added the tier.
Wouldn’t that basically requiring rebuilding the whole engine?
“Vote Kiel, because HUMAN” is not something that has caught my attention, although IF you can link me to any specific examples, I’ll accept the OP’s premise.
I would say it is more: “Don’t vote for the filthy Charr” than “Vote Kiel”.
So, how is that any different than a sword on the map?
If people don’t pay attention to the chat it is highly unlikely that they pay attention to the map.
Also this means people actually have to think and order people to do stuff (we always have scouts in our important tower/camps/keeps) instead of just waiting for a sword to turn up on the map.
This also helps separate the good players from the bad, by simply requiring people to actually work together to hold stuff.
With a change of siege bound, this should be reverted.
Because golems are so cheap now in 30 seconds party of 10 can melt throught all doors of fortified keep.
And yet with a good scouting force those 10 can be found and killed before they reach the keep.
This is because people need to actually post scouts and such.
Not rely on the map to tell them where they are needed.
Yes, I feel like the prices are balanced, simply because there is nothing in there that I actually need, and I see it as supporting the game rather than getting cool stuff in most cases (I have bought all the instruments even though I am not very musical for one)
WHY should they base the gem-price on the gold the gem transfer?
Should they go and change the gem-prices for everything as soon as they add something new to the store (or a rumor about new stuff) because that changes the value of gems?
The cost for store-stuff have been exactly the same since release of the game (not counting sales) and it is the only thing that matters.
If you want to get something and feel like the gold-gem price is too high, simply buy gems with real money, like the rest of us.
Why do people assume that we will fight Abaddon?
For all we know we will fight FOR Abaddon.
Pretty much spot on. What was actually said was that elder dragons are expansion material and they aren’t working on an expansion yet and have no plans to do so in the immediate future.
Since it takes 2-3 years to build an expansion that means you will not be seeing a dragon for a minimum of 2 years, but 3 would probably be more accurate since they aren’t even considering an expansion yet.
Listen/read again.
They said that they have not yet decided if they want to add the Dragons (and other stuff) in expansions or via Living story. Nothing else.
They have also stated quite a few times that “expansion materials” can very well be added via the Living Story.
The only thing he actually said was that there won’t be another Dragon THIS YEAR. That would mean we COULD get another Dragon on January 1st.
And no, 2-3 years to build an expansions is actually quite slow, and more of an exception than a norm.
>“I doubt Evon’s interest in the past isn’t entirely…religious.”
Just remember what Kormir did.
She became goddess in that battle.
As Gnash is kinda badboy, I don’t think that it’s all about election.
Wrong battle.
Kormir was not born when the Fall of Abaddon takes place.
