Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
WHY do people keep assuming (or even thinking) that we will SPEND APs at all?
The new patch notes will read:
- Fixed a bug which unintentionally stated the Molten Mining Pick will mine all metals. It now correctly reads “up to Orichalcum”.
- Added the Crystal Mining Pick to the store. The Crystal Mining Pick has unlimited uses and can mine all metals up to Quartz.
Too bad they have already announced that Quartz can be mined with ANY pick then
Well then those people don’t play often because other than monthly/FoTM (fotm are the only achievements in this game that i actually tried to get) and about three months of dailies i don’t do any and have almost 6k (haven’t been doing dailies for months now). I have no idea how could someone who doesn’t care about achievement one bit have 1200 points in 10 months unless he/she plays 2h a week…
Then you have done WAY more than you claim in this post.
I have played more or less daily since head-start (and completing dailies every day I have played and every monthly.) and I have also done all Living Story and Holiday achievements, most JPs, quite a bit of WvW and almost all dungeons and yet I “only” have 5995.
A mini-pet according to the rewards section of the announcement page.
Here the important word was : Champion.
It’s possible to defend the keep lord against pretty big zerg when you do it right.
Indeed, but at a keep-lord you have walls, siege-weapons and quite a few other NPCs.
You can solve that by simply double-clicking on the skill. The second click will use the skill at the marked location.
“You’ll also earn laurels, gems, gold, powerful items, and PvP and WvW rewards as your achievement score grows. " We will get laurels and other stuff for our points not use laurels or gold to buy the new gear. You get them only for achievement points total. They never said we have to used other currency for the new stuff. Except achievement points.
They never said we used achievement points for them either.
Only that the rewards is based on your amount of points.
It would be quite silly to actually SPEND your points, since most of them are gained by achievements that can’t really be repeated and the leaderboard is would look quite weird if the leader suddenly lost 5k points.
Actually lordkrall you might want to read the fine print on it before saying that it will cover higher tiers…
Molten Alliance Mining Pick
Recovered from the Shiverpeaks, this dredge tool has unlimited charges and the same efficiency as an Orichalcum Mining Pick.Unfortunately it does not say it would cover higher tiers (which is why I didn’t buy one). However, I don’t think at this time they would release/introduce anything that would require a different pick as that would not only exclude Molten Picks purchasers but also anger a nice chunk of people who do participate in purchases from the gem store.
And you might want to read what the item itself says:
Used to mine all metals. Unlimited use.
If it would only work as high as Orichcalcum they would have said “Used to mine Orichalcum and lower” or something like that.
The Molten Pick is however designed to mine ALL metals, which would also include any possible higher tier ones.
Why wouldn’t it?
It can mine all metals and it is quite likely to not be higher tier than Orichalcum.
When you consider that 30-35 means it’s the first dungeon in the game, it’s a mistake. Dungeons are designed as end game that can be accessed earlier but that doesn’t really seem to work. The difficulty of a dungeon is so far above open world content and AC is so far above many of the other dungeons. Dungeons in GW2 give terrible levelling gear (unlike WoW where you can get the best gear in each level bracket as dungeon drops) and they are really more of a new game + type of option. They usually work best when you’ve played the game before, you’re familiar with dungeon mechanics and know what to do. People playing the game for the first time probably shouldn’t be faced with the difficulty of AC at level 30-35, especially given how kitten the loot is.
And yet it is fully possible to complete them with a full lvl 30/35 group, as long as people are willing to actually learn and adapt.
I did every single dungeon in this game on-level (with on-levelish groups) the first time I did them, and it was very much possible to do so.
Why do people think we will be SPENDING points?
Isn’t that quite stupid?
As I have been seeing the dev posts promising they are taking into account user requests for more permanent content, I have been reassured. Today’s announcements have blown all of that away. Instead of less temporary content, we have 2 week releases now? With account bound permanent bonuses (tied to both story and number of achievement points)! In the middle of summer while people are going on vacations.
This game seems to become less and less friendly toward casual players with each update. I feel like I have to play more to just stand still and that’s not fun at all.
And where in that announcement did they, in any way or form, say that it would be temporary content?
For all we know 95% of the releases will be permanent.
My complaint :
Description says level 30 for story and level 35 for explorable paths
It is not…
It very much is.
Sweet! We REALLY needed yet another form of currency!
Hmm?
What type of currency would that be?
The Achievement Points?
The way I read it, it will work like the Hall of Monuments, such as getting a certain amount of points will unlock rewards, not actually buying rewards for points.
And back during flame and frost people complained about it being too spaced out and not happening fast enough.
They really can’t win, can they?
thats exactly what we have now, 100% chance of yellow from large bosses (albeit with a cooldown timer)
yes we really do need unique drops from bosses in dungeons (and out of dungeons too), it severely limits my enjoyment in this game to know that it rly doesnt matter WHAT i kill….its one of the things i still find appealing about runescape actually, that each monster has its own drop tables.
No, what we have now is one guaranteed rare per event per DAY. What the OP seems to be suggesting is a guaranteed rare per run, which would mean you could easily get a guaranteed rare per 10 minute(ish) for several hours which would crash the economy rather fast.
So, basically a guaranteed rare/exotic for 10 minutes playing (which can be done at any time and repeated)?
Doesn’t really sound balanced now, does it?
I don’t read they will take the dungeon and put it in the fractals. Do you?
What I think after reading this is more like they just try to capture what makes this dungeon likeable and/or the good mechanics, and use those in the future fractals.
Actually the whole Fractals of the Mist dungeon is about the NPC researching the mists and such.
Ah, but different personal stories (especially the racial parts) offer completely different stuff. Which would make such a thing a nightmare to program.
The main issue with personal story resetting is the fact that the personal story gives unique rewards. And it would be quite complex to remove all these rewards with a race change, especially if they are transmuted and such.
So, guild get a box.
Guild decides to troll and open said box in the middle of another guilds bounty/challenge/rush. Other guild fails badly.
Or using it in the middle of a low-level area during a timed event or something like that.
If it takes an hour you are quite clearly doing something wrong. A good hint would be to make sure the Golems get to the dragon at phase 2.
BS, in WoW when you use skills like garrote or rupture blood spews all over the place. This isn’t the 90’s where a few blood splatters earns a game a M rating.
But then again WoW looks a bit like a cartoon, whilst GW2 have a much more realistic graphic.
Story didn’t stop being important when the personal story ended. I suspect you actually know this, even though you’re pretending that you don’t.
Indeed, but that does NOT stop the fact that their talks about “your story” was specifically about the personal storyline.
The living story is quite clearly NOT about you, but rather about other people (such as Rox, Braham, Kiel, Marjory and so on.)
Ehm no, 15 hours from now it will be the 2nd.
It is still quite a few hours left on the 1st over there.
It is unlikely we will get the announcement before 15 hours from now at the least.
I’m at GMT+4 and every update happens around 8PM at my place so its already 2am here and 3rd july, delay never lasted so long for previous updates
There is not an update coming on the 2nd, there is information about a future update.
We want to do X.
We’re working on X.
One of those statements provides a sense that X is infact a priority, as opposed to a want.
I’m not asking for release dates, I am however trying to get a sense of whether new maps are in the development stream or simply a twinkle in the eyes of a few devs.
And if they are saying they are working on x they will be “attacked” every single update where x is not implemented.
Ah.
But should we really take methods that are breaking the rules of the game into consideration?
… Devon… could you please just actually answer the question for once. Of course you want to add new maps.
Are you working on new maps now? And if so you must be able to give us some indication of whether they’re being designed, balanced, tested and prep’d for release.
The phrase “we want to…” basically comes across as “we’ve not done anything on this yet”… and as a player, that’s really very disappointing.
And if they say they are working on them people will complain about them not being in the game with every single update released until these maps makes it to live.
And with updates coming every two weeks that will be LOTS of pointless posts about this.
I would say it is a rather good idea to NOT talk about details until stuff is set in stone, since otherwise people will shout about them lying and such.
I think you’re confusing dialog and story. Even if no one says anything, Mai’s capture is a huge part of the story.
True, I suppose. But it is nothing you need to actually see or miss out on if you don’t manage to complete the dungeon.
It is basically: Defeat the boss. End of dungeon.
And since he quite clearly is fully aware about this, he doesn’t really miss out on any of the story.
If not I am sure we can find a youtube-video that shows that brief second of “capture”.
I love how people claim that WvW is dead or dying. There is still massive amount of people running around on my server and every single server we have faced the last few months, more or less at any time during the day.
Too late, mesmers can portal the end chest
yay for a community that exploits all over the place (sarcasm)
Not from the start though. You do need to do quite a bit yourself before you are within portal range.
And this is why I’m so cranky about the limited time, combined with the difficulty. I was interested to see where this was going to go. Missing this part of the story sounds pretty key in my opinion.
Why is there no story mode…man, ANet!
And yet nothing is actually resolved in the dungeon other than the actual capture, no talks about motives, no closure to the story or anything like that. There are literally 3-4 lines spoken in the whole dungeon
And this IS the story mode, there is no explorable mode for this dungeon.
So throw it away..?
And yet that is a EXTREMELY small part of the playerbase and not even close to half of the active forum-userbase that seem to have issues with it. So clearly it is doable by the majority of players.
Really? Can you quote where I said I should be able to stand there and spam “1”, never move and always win?
Do you ever respond without exaggerating or making Straw Man arguments?
I never said you have said that, I said you SEEM to be thinking that, since quite clearly loads of people is fully able to complete the dungeon you are clearly doing something very wrong. And based on the dungeon itself that scenario is more or less the only plausible one.
What exactly is my approach to fights? Perhaps you can enlighten me since you seem to know why I struggled so much more in this dungeon than almost any others.
Well, you do seem to be under the impression that you will survive multiple hits without healing and/or moving, which might work in the other dungeons, but quite clearly won’t work here.
Ah, but what do those mechanics actually do? Ultimately they do damage and/or apply conditions. The amount of damage, the duration and type of the conditions and so on are all numbers stored in columns in a database.
You reduce the damage, the duration, increase cooldowns and maybe even remove or replace conditions entirely. The design work is all done for the normal mode you just nerf everything for easy mode.
But thats just the thing: IF they lower the already low damage it will be possible to simply stand around taking the hits and still survive, which would destroy the whole point in having the mechanics at all and they could simply remove them.
The amount of damage they deal certainly is.
Players with certain builds (that work great for them otherwise), and those who aren’t yet strong enough (armour, weapons, etc), probably find that the mechanics/damage is simply too much for them to handle.
I don’t want to get into a, “What build is best” debate because in the end it doesn’t matter. Living Story dungeons need to have options for different player levels.
As to how much time it would take, this is an irrelevant argument. If it takes too much time to properly make a dungeon, then reevaluate the release schedule. Don’t just pump out content for the sake of content. I would rather the Living Story be pushed back a week, than to have content that I try doing for hours and hours, only to give up in frustration.
Of course, but the damage they do is not really an issue. The issue people seem to have is that they are unable to avoid it. Lets face it, the skills in question don’t really do much damage, the issue is that people are assuming that they can stand and take the hits instead of avoiding them (which is possible in 99% of the cases).
Indeed, but the thing is the dungeon IS properly done, you simply can’t accept the fact that you are unable to do it without changing your approach to the fights.
The NPCs Attributes, the factors that determine their health and damage (and ultimately the difficulty of the encounters) are just numbers stored in columns in a database. Sure some balancing has to be done to make sure that normal mode is “right” but easy mode means replacing the veterans and elites with normal mobs that do a lot less damage and have less health. At worst you make sure that it’s too easy. Divide all damage and hit-points by five and call it a day.
Indeed, but that is just the thing. People are overall NOT complaining about the mobs, but rather the mechanics of the fights. And that isn’t something that is “stored in columns in a database”. It would require more or less completely rebuilding the whole fights which would require quite a bit of work.
Someone that plays 1-2 hours max per day WILL have a rather hard time to achieve this however, and monthlies should be achieveable by most players after all.
And who can decide which group is the majority? How can we know that THIS dungeon is not the perfect one based on said curve?
We did after all have the very same complains about MF back when it was released, Fractals when they were released and the original dungeon back at the games release.
There will always be a small group that complains about it, what makes you think that the group is “correct” this time?
I couldn’t disagree with you more.
GW2, and the Living Story are not for the elite. No one says it has to be a “gimme” but if they’re going to advertise this to everyone, it has to be accessible to everyone. It doesn’t need to be dumbed down, it needs to have options.
We all payed for this game, and we all support it. No one should be denied access to the story because ANet feels they have to cater to the top players. As pixelpumpkin said so well above, this needs to accommodate the majority of players.
My solution above also provides options for all levels.
So what about those with limited playtime? They won’t be able to do the personal story, or any dungeons in the game, or the majority of the events in the game, wouldn’t they also be “denied access to the story”?
ArenaNet does in no way cater to the top players, if they did this dungeon would be more or less impossible for pugs, which is quite clearly not the case.
(edited by lordkrall.7241)
I think you are underestimating the amount of time and work required to scale stuff like that though.
They would more or less have to do 1 version of the dungeon for every difficulty available, which would suddenly mean that they would have quite a bit more work to be done.
And even if they did that people would complain. It would always be too hard for someone and it would always be too easy for someone else.
I’m sorry, but your arguments are so far beyond ridiculous that it won’t do either of us any good to continue. If its all the same, I’ll wait for other responses.
How are they beyond ridiculous? Please explain that to me?
I answered your arguments in a nice manner, why can’t you just do the same? This is a forum after all, if you are going to assume everyone will agree with you, you might find it hard to frequent a forum.
Lvl 80 content? The dungeon upscales after all.
I am quite sure that I completed the dungeon in question with a lvl 48 ranger in the party, and that was a pug-group as well, so clearly it is fully possible to do it both without “lot of time” and lvl 80s.
9th is when the Dungeon goes away so I would think that is also when the rest of the non-permanent stuff is removed.
And yet nothing in these Living Story releases have required “large amounts of time”.
Effigy could be done in about 2 hours (and 2 hours during the course of a month is very little), the pinatas could be completed around that amount of time as well. And the candy eating could be done in 2 minutes more or less.
How is it incorrect?
Would the real world feel living if everything was put on hold for two weeks because you hadn’t experienced it yet?
How about WW2? Should we remake that so that you can participate in it, since you missed it?
Why do your arguments always consist of totally absurd twisting of my words?
Perhaps take a moment and consider what I’m saying. Instead of twisting it around, try to think of some solutions.
But isn’t that more or less what you are saying?
You talk about not tying achievements to “hard” stuff, because everyone should be able to get them. With that logic they would need to give people achievements by simply logging in, since all people can’t spend more than 10 minutes per day playing, and that is not nearly enough time to achieve anything really.
