I’d say your CPU is bottlenecking with that 2.2GHz clock. GW2 is highly CPU based and to get higher FPS you’ll want that i7 at least 3.5GHz. Also keep in mind that the game’s optimization level is still low, so there is no guarantee you will see great FPS even with a high clocked i7.

Birthday gifts are character based not account based. So as each character you have hits 1 year it will get a gift.

I also had the Phenom II X945 @ 3GHz but paired with the ASRock A770DE+ MB. For about $200, at the time, I got an ASRock 970 MB, FX 63000 3.5Ghz CPU, and 8GB DDR3 1600 AMD Radeon RAM. I can hit up to 35-40fps in normal gameplay, but drop down to about 10fps in major zergs. However the drop comes with no lag on frame drop. I will point out I also run an Sapphire 6870 and with the 13.9 CCC I see less drop in some cases.

Overall the main issue at hand, regardless whether you run Intel or AMD, is the lack of overall optimization the game provides, which is slowly being rectified through each patch. I can tell a huge difference in game play over the last 3 patches especially. With luck the next 2 or 3 will bring about more.

I will say this, research each part before buying. Each platform will give some some advantages, however each has its own share of drawbacks as well. I will say that if you are looking at anything that requires buying more memory be wary at this point. In September one of the major manufacturers for RAM lost about 65% of its capability due to a fire, thus prices have gone up between 35-50% and are not expected to come down until after the first of the new year.

Personally I’d like to see a statue of the mentor of your chosen order be put up in your home instance. That place needs some love.

I’ve found with yahoo that not only do I not receive an authentication email from outside locations I also get a ‘unable to authenticate’ error. I have submitted a ticket and hopefully the team can finally locate the source of the issue…my only question is does anyone know if the mobile authenticator is getting the same trouble?

Where is the “unable to authenticate” error taking place? On Yahoo? Or are you saying that you are not getting the auth e-mail and then, because you cannot authenticate to get into the game?

Once I select log-in from a source other than at home, it first tells me it has sent an authentication email then about 15 seconds later comes back with ‘unable to authenticate return to login’ on the forums. I have my home saved to be enabled so I can still play, its just I like to get onto the forums when I’m away but due to this I cannot.

They have been known to be able to restore accounts but support may take some time before it is completed…hate to hear about your hack though.

Sadly the overall issue here is the game itself is still poorly optimized overall for either platform (AMD or Intel). Until we see better optimization come along and more options for multi-core support low FPS will plague even the most powerful rigs that run it.

I will tell you that I run an ASRock 970 Motherboard, AMD 6300 @ 3.5GHZ, 8GB DDR3 1600 AMD Radeon memory, Sapphire 6870 1GB, with a 600w PSU running it all. It is a fairly cheap build and gets about the same results as those with higher end systems from what I’ve compared via the forums.

Sadly the optimization level of GW2 is very low. Neither the AMD or Intel platforms can run as smooth as they should due to this. As such I just wanted to forewarn you that spending more money on more expensive systems does not equal having higher FPS or performance in this game. As it becomes more optimized over the next few years, if such does happen, maybe we will start to see better performance, but until then I suggest a good mid-ranged board, at least a quad core cpu @ 3.0GHz or higher, 4-8GB RAM, and a 600+w PSU to power it all.

Sadly, what the OP states is indeed true. However, when open world content is, as Teq has been, reworked for more hardcore players, others miss out on opportunities to enjoy the same content. But such is the way of things. The only way around this would be to instance every meta event with a Hard and Normal mode, with rewards based on such. Not going to happen though.

I really like the new mechanics for Tequatl, however my only grip is that each time I’ve tried to go I end up in an overflow that is lucky to do 2% dmg to him. In his current state I would say, mechanic wise he is set. HP wise, too much. Such huge servers with huge guilds have taken him down. These players get the rewards. How about the rest of us? We would like to be able to down this boss but Overflows do not get as many players as the standard servers do. I myself would love to get the title that goes with this event, however, I seriously doubt such will occur in a 2 week time frame. I’d honestly like to see it left open so that over time we can earn these rewards with multiple encounters if need be. Personally knocking his health down a little wouldn’t hurt, but other than that its great stuff.

I know before the update I could crit against all of the meta bosses. However, after doing quite a few meta events I have noticed I can no longer crit against these bosses. Many trait lines and sigils are specified to ‘on crit’ status, and with this those are all nullified in combat.

So just wondering, was this intended or just a bug?

Been this way since launch. T1 & T2 for wpns for sylvari and asura are the same.

I will be honest, I dislike the Ascended weaponry because of the needless restrictions with them. IE Nerfing daily/monthly Karma by 90%, along with nerfing all forms of gaining karma period. The once per day per account per component craft grind. Yes overall ArenaNet failed miserably on the implementation of these new weapons. I love the stats and skins, I love the idea of having something you can work towards other than exotics. However, again, the implementation was horrible. The ability to obtain these items should’ve been more along the lines of how existing ascended items are, laurels and gold. Even if it was only to buy the necessary components to make it would’ve been better than the system now that will take most players 3-4 months, or more, to make just one weapon.

Overall the new skins are great, a new tier of weaponry, great, the grind to make it, horrible. As others have pointed out, this game is now more Grind Wars than Guild Wars.

In the Manifesto for GW2, ANet spoke of how they would keep grinding to a minimum, give us, not the holy trinity, but a trinity of damage, control, and support, and many other things.

Well it has been just over one year now and we’re seeing more grind added to the game constantly, more and more temporary events with no way to replay (unlike the small stuff in GW1 we had), and nerfs to areas, such as karma gain, that do nothing but punish players. I just finished my September monthly, after having been reset from 3/4 to 1/4 like most everyone. What did I get, same as all probably….+500 luck, 20 Mystic Coins, 10 Laurels…no problem, but Karma, from 10x 4-5k pots to only 1x 6k pot! Seriously ArenaNet? SERIOUSLY!?!? Oh what’s that, it was too trivial? Not what the game was about? Again…seriously?

Karma was trivial unless you wanted to get Temple armor, Cultural weapons, Obi Shards, or play the Orrian Box roulette. Oh that’s right, a lot of players want these for their stats or their skins, or just a chance at some lodestones, or for their legendary weapon.

Just like the reset on monthlies “we’re sorry but we can’t fix it”…seems to be the going theme for GW2 lately. We can’t fix it so we’ll break something else for complaints to pour in about. What’s next, guild commendations being nerfed? Oh how about doubling the exp required to reach 80? Would go great with the pointless limits on new gear where it will take an average player around to make 1 ascended weapon. Wow.

Anyway, everything this game was promised to be has continuously been steered away from, and everything promised NOT to be in the game is being added constantly. That’s how its feeling. And sadly, if the coming patches continue to follow the pattern I will find myself playing less and less of GW2. I’m almost sad to admit I spent the money on the CE and had anticipated the launch of this game since EoTN and GW2 where announced.

So with that, please take a look at how the playerbase will be affected by changes before implementing them. Not all change is good after all.

Sorry to anyone this offends, but it is something that I wanted to say.

My personal idea is that 1, make skins available at lower level Fractals with a lower drop rate or have a chance to get Fractal Weapons (blue for 1-10, green 11-20, rare for 21-30, exotic for 31 and higher.)

For all levels have at least 1 guaranteed exotic because fractals take more work that most world bosses. Also for lvl for lvl 30+ fractals a guarantee at a fractal weapon of rare or higher quality.

I for one would love to get some fractal skins, however having to do 100+ runs to qualify is just annoying, and for some can take months to even get close. Yes we can join higher level fractals but we only get loot at our level. We still face the same danger but get lower end loot. One option would be to also remove personal levels and just unlock Fractals of all levels to all players.

Anyway…back to enjoying the wonders of Southsun!

From what I’ve gathered this is server lag mostly. Each time it occurs with me there is also a slight graphical lag ahead of it. Culling I believe has some to do with this, but it may change with the coming updates.

I’ve played a ranger since beta and still love it. They are very versitile and their pets can make all the difference in any fight. If anything, hunting down and taming all of the pets is very fun as well. I have also played all other classes, and my ranger still tops out as my primary, my guardian second.

As far as PVP goes I cannot really say, I do not enjoy PVP as much personally but for PVE and leveling I love this class.

Indeed this is an intended feature. It was implemented prior to full release if I am not mistaken. The way sigil’s work is if you have two of the same type, ie: on kill, on crit, on hit, etc, the effects do not stack. As such two sigils, bloodlust and luck for instance, will not stack on each other at the same time, only the mainhand will be applied. You can however use a sigil that is ‘on kill’ like bloodlust and an ‘on crit’ sigil like lightning and you will benefit from both.

I did this once to a computer, about 12 years ago before PSUs had a built in protection to keep the surge from taking our your MB and everything else. Since then I’ve learned some nice tricks.

First to tell if your PSU is alive or not you want a PSU tester, these are about $10-20 from newegg or tigerdirect. You can also attempt to test using your current or an old MB.

To test the MB, pull everything RAM, CPU, and all other cards. Hook up a known working PSU and using a non-magnetic screwdriver, rub it over the case hookups on the MB itself. If it squeals, the board is good. If nothing happens your board is dead.
If the board is good you can start adding your RAM, CPU and other stuff back in. Watch to make sure you get a good set on each.

Also my biggest tip, if the PSU is bad and you have to buy a new one I, Ultra’s X4 series is great. The reason I say this is 1) they are modular making cable management easy 2) Lifetime warranty with registration.

My guild also is small. Only one active user to be honest, me. At most my guild hit 5 or 6 active members and that was for about a week. Most changed servers to go with WvWvW guilds or to find more PVP locations. I, however, am very much a PVE player. As result I have R3 Politics, R2 Economy, R3 Architechure. With this I still have over 5k banked in my Guild Rep. That’s just from me. So how a small guild with more active players is unable to build up, well…not sure what to say.

I like it once per character instead of once per account myself. I have 3 lvl 80s and I do these events daily for one reason, the to scrap the rares for ecto. I’m trying to stock up enough ecto myself for crafting my own equipment, and over time it pays off better than doing anything else. I’m not a “hard core” farmer, and I enjoy the DEs for the sake of doing them but I like being rewarded for doing so with a chance at some decent equipment, or at least something worth scrapping.

The major map bosses, ie: Shadow Behemoth, Maw, Fire Elemental, Commanders in Ascalon, Megadestroyer, Temples, and Dragons are affected.

It is once per day per character though, meaning they want us to keep doing them just on different characters. However with this, as many point out, seems to be a very poor update which I for one would like to see modified. I could understand 3-4 times per day per character, or the limit based on the frequency of how many times the event takes place. But once time per day per character gives seriously hurts some players who use these events to chance for better loot which is difficult to find elsewhere.

Did you get a crash report? If so please post it, those help locate the source of the issue.

Ok this isn’t exactly what you’re wanting to hear but it is, sadly, the truth. Windows Vista uses approx 1.5GB of RAM. GW2 uses approx 1.5GB of RAM. 32bit OS’s can only use approx 3.25GB of RAM. Thus a 32bit OS using Vista or later is very difficult to run games that use high amounts of RAM.

As for the change to a 64bit OS, yes it does work as you will be able to increase your maximum RAM based on your motherboard’s limitations. 6GB will be plenty to run without issue.

Try these settings:
Nvidia Control Panel / CCC
AA > App Control
AF > App Control
Mipmap > Performance
Vertical Sync >App Control
Triple Buffering > On
Morphological Filter > Off

In Game:
Vertical Sync > On

These settings tend to help people with low FPS issues.

Also remember the game is not fully optimized for GPU control, it relies heavily on CPU control at the current state. This may change over time.

Okay before uninstalling or anything here’s some settings to try:
Nvidia Control Panel

AF → App Control
Mipmap → Performance
Vertical Sync → App Control
Triple Buffering → On
Morphological Filter → Off

In Game:
Vertical Sync → On

These settings tend to help people with low FPS issues.

The trick to anything in the personal story is to make sure you have the equipment to handle anything. I’ve completed events for every order, each one has points just as difficult as the other. Yes you end up tackling an opponent a little more powerful if you do it at the recommended level with poor gear, learned that myself but I still made it through. The trick is to stick with it and adapt.

You must’ve chose the ‘horn’ as part of your story. Gotta say I agree. The trick to it is to hide while Eir does the heavy lifting so to speak, pop a few shots off to inflict confusion, then hide again.

Ok I’m building up my mes. I mostly melee and range when needed. My current, preliminary build, as my mes is only lvl 26.

Overall this gives 20/20/20 on recharge for phantasms, so if one goes down I can bring back up fast. They all have boosted health, x220%. I choose ranged phantasms – 2x duelists & 1x disenchanter – this gives burst dmg & boon/condition removal. As for the 5 Chaos it gives me regen if I fall below 75% hp, this I’ve found comes in handy from time to time.

Again this is only a preliminary build, as she’s so low level I won’t know how well it performs for another week or so. But I’m always open to suggestions for any possible improvements more experienced mesmers may offer.

This does work, however you must use a ‘white’ item to make it work correctly. This can also work with karma armor you want to buy with one characater for another. What happens is white items are ‘account bound’ instead of ‘soulbound’.

…I call it the Chilled Chicken…

A few other options: Under your Nvidia Control Panel – set AA & AF to app control, Morph AA/AF off, Mipmap to Performance, Vert Sync to On-app control, Triple Buffering On.

Overall as for optimization, Arena is in process from my understanding of tuning a features to help pull more from the GPU than it currently does. As it is now it relies too heavily on 3 single thread codes which direct everything. As a result even a $3000 rig with max everything will perform at 100% in this game. However it is possible to still get 40+ FPS, but it takes work.

My system is a bit weaker, by standards, with a Phenom II x4 945 @ 3.0GHz, 8 GB DDR2 800 OCZ, Sapphire 6870 1GB, and my game is on my non-os WD Caviar 400GB drive. I’ve found turning AA, AF, Morph filtering, Vert Sync all to app control, Triple Buffering on, and Mipmaps to performance, the game is capable of getting very high FPS.

The best thing to do at this point, unfortunately, is to wait for the patches and updates to the game optimization to take effect.

While this is mainly the game’s fault, I’d strongly recommend buying Intel next time. They are able to process many more instructions per clock (IPC) than AMD processors, meaning a 2.8 GHz Intel processor will perform much better than a 2.8 GHz AMD processor.

This would actually be AMD’s fault, for not being able to properly balance the load across the cores.

That’s the real difference between AMD and Intel at the moment. An Intel multi-core will increase the speed to pegged cores while decreasing the speed to cores with excess capacity.

AMD does have such capability, however one must disable the AMD Cool ’n Quiet for it to properly work. Also, Intel seems much faster and much more reliable because they hold a patent for multi-threading capabilty. Each core has 2 threads instead of 1 as AMD holds.

My rig is very similar to those stated: Phenom II x4 945 @ 3GHz.

People continue to talk about ‘bottlenecking’ however my cpu does utilize all 4 cores 75-100% use depending on where I am. The deal is, instead of building GW2 around a more GPU controlled coding, Arena use a CPU controlled coding which is set for only 3 Threads at one given time. Intel users do see a better performance in most cases due to Intel CPUs being mostly multi-thread capable. As they hold the patent for such AMD CPUs only have 1 thread per core.

Overall though this does not denote one is better than the other as some would hope. The fault with low FPS is the fact the engine has yet to be completely fine-tuned. I remember the wee-years of GW1, pre DX9c, when even it had issues of low performance. It took a few years but GW1 has been fine tuned to be both GPU and CPU reliant, allowing for FPS to reach over 200 in some areas. We can only hope the same will occur here, hopefully sooner than later for some.

An interesting find, this trick did, as of last night also work for Karma and Cultural armor…but the trick is you have to transmute the item to a white armor to make it account bound, upon transmuting to any other form of armor makes it soulbound once more. The one thing to remember with Heritage armor, the racial requirements do remain, but such can be used in a case you wanted to re-roll a lvl 80 that say has T3 cultural.

One comment…seriously? We are having this discussion. Flat out if the name is offensive, common sense says don’t use it. If you want to say an offensive word, don’t. It may get you banned.

You do not get the HoM stone right off the bat. You have to go to Smuggler’s Way or whatever in Lions Arch and talk to the Charr karma vendor. Choose the second tab and you can get your HoM stone no charge. After obtaining it you can travel back and forth and any new characters get a stone upon creation.

Yes. In fact by holding down the right mouse button you can navigate your character as well.

MF is completely borked beyond belief at this time. For some it works, for others it actually decreases drop rates. I’ve noticed the same on all of my toons that I added MF too.

My system: AMD Phenom II x4 945 @ 3.0GHz, 8 GB DDR2 800 OCZ, ASRock A770DE+ MB, Sapphire 6870 1GB. I have hit 60+ FPS at times in the world, as low as 5 FPS during major fights. I’ve tried low settings with everything off, and I didn’t see much improvement overall. I did however found a trick to increasing performance was rather simple. In your NVidia control or CCC turn AA & AF to application control, vertical sync to on or application control, triple buffering on, and all optional AA & AF controls to performance or off. By setting these I noticed my FPS holds more stable than by just setting in game options. But overall, until we see a few more tweaks here and there to the overall optimization of the game itself the results will likely remain unpredictable as to which system will perform at what level.

To be honest you’re getting a little too warm on that CPU. You shouldn’t get over 50*C w/ good cooling so you may want to check on a better CPU cooler. Depending on your board you may want to make sure the Cool ’n Quiet is disabled. This clocks down your CPU and your CPU cooler, sometimes causing trouble.
