Can you stop crapping on other people’s fun? Move on already and leave this forum. I enjoyed both dungeons and they’re probably gonna be reduced in lenght to be a fractal.
Well they would have to be. Both are long dungeons. Fractals are meant to be mini dungeons. One of the issues with fractals is that the dredge and Colossus fractals especially, are too long and not mini dungeons.
My response to the fact that a company with limited experience producing a full-fledged MMO had to face reality and make adjustments to their intentions in order to bring their product to market….so what. It happens. Its life. Its business. That doesn’t mean it didnt happen though.
IMHO thats a reasonable position to take. However I would argue that they didn’t even try to make their original vision work. They panicked in November, or before, given that decisions about ascended gear must have been made well before the Nov 15 patch, and this was when the game was only a couple of months old. And they didn’t help themselves by denying the issue eg. Mike O’Brien’s reddit post during the Q&A durnig that period.
I don’t live is Aus (Actually UK), so I can make no useful comment on the inbuilt lag you suffer from. I agree that Anet should probably invest in an Asia/pacific server.
They don’t need that they just need to to make sure they account for it in their programming.
What does the word ad mean to you? To me it was a way for the company to promote their upcoming product. It’s like what companies do.
Were their blogs of the time ads? They are all part of a PR campaign to publicise the game but not necessarily ads in their own right. And it doesn’t matter really whether its technically an ad or not they still made false statements in it, or statements that they later back away from.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
So a company made an ad that made their game look good. An ad which had in it actual game play, where most companies make ads and have some bullkitten video cut scene that doesn’t represent gameplay at all, and you say the company was acting like a business? lol
I wasn’t an ad though, nor was the associated information presented to players around the time.
As for acting like a business they could make a product actually for players which makes them money they did it with GW1. They started to with GW2 but then they deviated away from it to maximise profit and include what I would call anti player systems which are basically a treadmill keeping people playing and spending money in the cash shop, not to mention the gambling boxes.
Most of what was said in the manifesto remains true to this day. And anyone who actually looks at what’s being said, particularly with what was clarified immediately after (Ree talking about personal story, Colin talking about DEs)…well, yeah.
Not gonna debate this with you because you’re wrong and its useless debating the topic any more.

I just find this particular situation very saddening, The whole 2 week new content idea is inspired and on the whole, all of it has been superbly engaging – particularly this latest release. Yet, far from players lauding their efforts (which they rightly deserve) someone is badly dropping the ball on virtually every release by not responding quickly when huge numbers of players have concerns about (usually) one particular aspect.
It just demonstrates that with this sort of schedule there are always going to be a huge amount of bugs and probably not as much bug fixing as required because the schedule is too onerous with their resources.
Uhh…yea. But people have beaten this horse to death, drudging up old comments made by ANet employees from years ago, writing page long posts, and even linking “the manifesto” in their signature.
I like to talk about games too. I’m just saying that people take the complaints to the level of an unhealthy obsession.
The game is what it is.
People were sold the game based on the manifesto and other marketing from around that time. They had a high opinion of anet as a players company based on GW1 and the way they sold GW2.
So when its revealed that it was all a bunch of marketing BS and that anet are really just another corporate game company they feel disappointed and betrayed.
Dyes like white, black, celestial, the limited-time dyes, are 20g and above. I find this to be a bit much. I wondering what the rest of the community thinks.
Far too much for dye, its ridiculous.
Yea I’m confused myself, since that would have been the only reason.
My guess it is to annoy people then.
Its a way to keep people logging in just like the 1 a day laurels.
Its lazy design because it doesn’t require much work to design and implement. Its also grindy and anti player.
Hey look! TW trolls came out to play when SOR is winning!!!
(in forum I mean)Winning? Currently BG are 5,000 points ahead and will probably surge ahead again in the next 12 hours.
By PPT.
Well obviously but every server leads the PPT at some stage.

Winning? Currently BG are 5,000 points ahead and will probably surge ahead again in the next 12 hours.
I’ve logged a support ticket but may as well document it here. After a few trials (being in Australia) I actually won a sanctum sprint race. However I didn’t get the achievement or title.
The fundamental problem is Anet is unclear whether WvW is a hardcore or casual gamemode.
They are clear on sPvP: that’s hardcore, and they cater to the hardcore PvP crowd (somewhat successfully).
With WvW, on the otherhand, they seem to completely ignore the dedicated WvW guilds that make the game. These are the ones who set the pace of competition, the meta, and everything else. Yet, Anet appears to believe WvW is a casual offshoot of PvE.
If Anet catered more to the dedicated WvW guilds (not sure how), then perhaps there would be incentives for them to stay on low tier servers. As it is now, the dedicated WvW guilds have to “make their own fun” by transferring to the high tiers, or organizing GvGs.
The transferring itself is a vicious circle because it causes mega-blogging in the high tiers, furthering reducing competition. It’s a big cluster-kitten.
Some good points, and those guilds will eventually leave the game for other games and WvW will be left in a poor state once that happens.
It was public knowledge, everyone had access to it.
No it isn’t, testers for example have access to advance knowledge of future content. Those who anet deem worthy who write online guides etc. also get an advance look ahead of anyone else, which was the original point of the thread.
How can dailies possibly feel like a grind? They just happen! All by themselves! As long as your play experience involves leaving Lion’s Arch occasionally, you’ll get your required dailies.
No you won’t, there’s always at least 1 or 2 that you’ll have to go out of your way to get.
How exactly are we meant to “compete” in the sanctum sprint when the latency on the skills is ridiculous. Using Sun dash teleports you backwards, the jump takes 3 or 4 tries to actually work and lightning pull is an exercise in futility.
Yep same on my normal server, and then I guested to a low pop server and won a race and didn’t get credited with the achievement or title (and yes a bug report has been submitted).
Australian here.
Interesting thing to note, lightning pull seems to be totally broken on my main server, but it then works more or less totally fine on overflow servers. Why would that be?
More players in the map = additional lag. There you go.
Exactly, the other night on a run I spent 10 minutes in 1 race on my server trying to get through the part where you’re high on the cliffs and have to do a lightning pull followed by a wind jump then a lightning pull, due to lag. I then guested to a less popular server and got through it.

None of them were lootable for me, I just assumed it was intended. >.>
Same here
So the dyes are not account bound anymore, but you don’t have to buy plant food to see what dye you got, if you want to do more than one dye a day.
I initially supported the decision on the dye system but now I completely disagree mainly because dye drops are so bad. They are bad enough that they should have remained account bound.
Oh look. Another person quoting the manifesto out of context. Quoting an almost three year old video out of context doesn’t win arguments. It just makes you look like you were too lazy to actually pay attention to everything else Anet said about the game.
Oh look Vayne defending the manifesto again despite being proved wrong. And we were paying attention to everything anet said about the game at that time its why we know they have backtracked on their original vision for the game.
But that’s true in any game. Every game has farmers. Anet gave them places to congregate and they do. What’s wrong with that?
You;re being disingenuous there you well know that once it attracts too many farmers it will be nerfed for one thing. Its already been nerfed at least once.
I don’t really care about the grind what is galling is anet nerfing farming as soon as a spot becomes popular, plus the unfairness over the whole RNG thing.
Do you realize you just complained about a lack of AoE, then complained about siege weapons… which provide AoE ?
/facepalm
You do realise that ACs don’t have the same cap as player aoes don’t you.
So, BG SEA is “so stacked” yet BG’s ppt just went lower in this late EU timezone than SoR’s did during SEA. It is time to stop being so sensitive.
You should realise that any comments are simply in response to the trolling from certain BG players in previous weeks and the hypocrisy displayed.
Cheat mode: bring banner of defense and tactics. They severely decrease damage. Warriors have it easy or bring a warrior friend to spam banners for win.
Sorry but its ridiculous that any skill or trait or booster should be able to influence the outcome. Anet you need to balance these mini games properly and fairly.
kitten this event I’m out.
The sprint will indeed end when all racers have made it up to the finish area. It periodically checks to see if anyone is still racing and if not, it will end early.
This isn’t correct it has ended for me when I’ve still been out of the track (and not just when I’ve zoned in during a race) and as a consequence I didn’t get the achievement point for completing the race.
Its riddled with bugs I also placed first in 1 race and didn’t get the achievement.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
If only there was a way to counter huge zergs…
If you;re being serious the changes to ACs actually encouraged bigger blobbing.
Cue the lack knowing what you are talking about.
So I’ve actually been in WvW this week when it has ticked at that level but I apparently don’t know what I’m talking about. If you actually read the graph 3 times this week we have been between 30 and 80PPT which suffices for my purpose seeing as I didn’t say we were exactly at 50 PPT.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
With all that….there should be no point to this thread at all. I’m sorry, but this is a VISUAL VIDEO GAME and it’s played ONLINE through US SERVERS.
You realise that it is actually marketed and sold in oceanic countries like Aust. and NZ, we haven’t just bought it online from the US. They market it and sell it in these countries they are obligated to provide a product that actually works in those countries when they connect to the US servers.
L:astly I don’t think SoR needs a SEA or OCeanic guild. As of right now most nights they are pushing a 300+ PPT.
Only not. 3 times this week this week we have been around 50 PPT including last night.
Cue the trolls saying it was deliberate…….
It would be nice if Anet introduced some in-game mechanics to deal with blobs, and beefed up their servers to handle the lag. But the far more viable solution is to somehow incentivize de-stacking the servers and spreading the hardcore WvW players out across all servers. Blobbing and lag won’t matter at that point.
Probably the only way to do it now is to bring back free transfers but then that may go the other way.
Once other games come out the problem will take care of itself because most of the major WvW guilds will leave the game.
Its kittening unbelievable that they base entire content releases with permanent rewards around it then.
When Anet first started to talk about GW2 they said they did away with the henchmen and was going to have a single NPC companion system, then got rid of that idea. They went on talking about how PVE was going to be solo friendly but encouraged teamwork because it’s more fun.
Yes and then they went and made the final personal story mission a dungeon……… go figure.
Blackgate…. Complains about PvDoor, does it all night. Clkitten.
BG……. complains about SOR being stacked goes on to win the matchup.
Ele and mesmer hard, guardian easy, rest somewhere in between.
Have you reported it as a bug because thats clearly what it is?
Are the rewards perhaps dependent on what zone you’re in when you get it or open it? It seems very strange to mix sPvP, PVE and WvW reward types together.
From the data, you’ll see that SoR rarely ever ticks 100 and below during those timezones, but that is what we were seeing during the matchup BG won. Little did we know it was all a ruse to artificially deflate PPT to entice more EU transferees.
(The first two paragraphs are fact. The last is opinion, but I believe a correct and accurate one)
Well as someone who is usually on when SOR ticks below 100 your opinion is wrong, as is the whole SOR setting out to recruit more EU, what we actually want is more oceanic.
BG NEVER dominated the tier. HoD dominated. SoS dominated. JQ dominated. Whenever BG wins, it’s coming out of a hard-pressed, uphill battle. Transfer onto the server and see for yourself.
I’d hardly say that SOR is dominating the tier though.
From what i see is the only way BG/JQ can keep up with SOR is to double team the kitten out and still lose.
must suck not being SOR
The only thing that sucks is SoR imbalancing T1 and calling the match-up “Even”.
But it was OK when BG did it right.
Zero – The O in MMO stands for you need a decent connection to the internet.
I have a decent connection but live in Australia and have lots of issues with it. MMOs are worldwide games not made just for you special snowflakes in the US.
I feel your pain but I assure you it’s not a problem of discrimination. I live in the U.S. (EST) and I have the exact same problems. It’s a matter of connection.
Anet has provided a great update, but the better the update the more it’s going to be tough on those with low end comps and poor connections. This is not something they will always be able to avoid. Every update has not and will not be able to meet everyone’s needs or desires. This is simply an update that you(and me) will not be able to enjoy as well as those with a better setup.
Yes but they’ve then gated permanent desirable content (the celestial recipes) behind it. It would be ok if the rewards were simply the same as for the previous event (a mini pet) but its not.
The engine definitely isn’t designed for platforming… Don’t know if I would call it crap though.
Try playing it with high ping then.
Although I personally don’t mind minigames, I DO mind if it becomes major content to get nice armor- and weapon skins. I mean: I’m a horrible platform player, can’t solve ANY jump quest taking more than 2 jumps lol! So now I’m supposed to work my way to a final stage or just leave it and forget about all kinds of nice new skins?
Its actually worse than that, for those of us with a high ping some of the content is almost impossible because they haven’t accounted for latency issues.
You can argue that you get more stat points overall, because you aren’t as specialized as someone else by using Celestial gear, but I don’t see any reason why Celestial gear should have more or even the same amount of Critical Damage than Berserker’s gear and a maximum amount of Magic Find in addition to that.
This is indeed strange, though at least in the case of crit damage is of no big consequence (higher crit damage is meaningless with severely reduced power and crit chance). High MF value, though, is a problem, as it makes celestial gear an ideal MF set – better than the already existing specialized MF sets. Which is ridiculous.
(goes to make a celestial set for farming)
You’ve just given me a reason for making one, thanks for that :-).
I’ve loved the new content and for what it is, it’s excellent in my opinion – a big well done to the team who worked on it.
However, it is utterly bizarre not to have equally in depth content to appeal to non JP players alongside it. Minimal story, no meaningful events, no challenging boss fights. By all means keep making stuff like Bazaar, but supplement it. The story since LS started has been jumping around a lot, some of it good, some of it woeful, some of it ending suddenly without warning.
1 year on, we now really need some meaty content. Living story should be progressing set up stuff for the dragons, not shallow enemies like Molten or Aetherblades, who came and went in the blink of an eye…
This is 100% on the money its not the mingames per se its the lack of other meaningful content. What we are getting is largely shallow fluff.
Not sure what ANet can do besides grouping people based on latency though (for the race, everything else – no idea).
They could make sure they don’t design events that require a low latency. Unless they have servers based in all 4 major regions someone is always going to have these sort of issues.
I have not tried to go for the crystals yet but my problem is with sanctum sprint where half of the skill activations don’t fire making it very dificult to actually enjoy the minigame. The lightning pull does not fire on the first one dumping you into the water, I have had the second one misfire launching me into the waterfall instead of the lightning tether, I have been teleported back half the map on the third one because of a misfire… on it goes, I love the idea of the sprint but it is not remotely fun with any sort of latency.
Yep, I’ve experienced exactly the same issues with it.
I’m not entirely confident that ANet is:
A. Aware they’re making a game that requires an online connection.
B. understanding the limitations of thier game engine.
I tried this event last night and it is unplayable. The mechanics of these are too dependent on connection speed. We’ve seen this before. The “jump pads” in the SAB and AR suffer from this same issue.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure what my options are. Unless ANet can do something about this, I can’t see how I can participate in any of content that requires these mechanics.
I really have to give ANet kudos for trying new things, but unless they start taking into consideration the limitations of the environment they’re working in, I fear many players will simply find themselves unable to play.
This, plus its the lack of proper testing that would have revealed these issues. I’m in Melbourne and have exactly the same issues that everyone (bar 1 person) is complaining about. The crystals achievement looks almost impossible to complete, there is absolutely no chance of placing in the sprint, and the only way to get the goggles is via a port.
yes i dont understand either why it is souldbound…
Cause anet never test stuff properly.
How does the backlog work, it seems to be similar to the WvW world xp chests but does this mean I have to wait for each 500 point to get a backlog chest? Do I get the first one when I log in after the patch hits or have to wait until I reach the next 500 milestone?
From what dulfy says you get one chest every day till you get everything, regardless whether you got new achievement points or not.
OK if thats right I don’t actually mind that.
