Lots of scams involve telling someone they are going to be suspended and then asking them for personal info so that they can steal the account. If he is truly suspended then he will be unable to log into the game.

supply and demand

Yes, thank you for reminding us all of that most basic of economic principles. The question was why aren’t supply and demand of cloth kept in par with those of other materials.

Cloth and Leather are primarily produced via NON-targeted (incidental) ways, while Wood and Ore and primarily produced via targeted (non-incidental) ways.

This distinction certainly plays a large role in the why question.

Well, now that Smooth Penguin managed to drag Godwin’s law into the argument (by the way Smooth, that’s a sign that that person has lost the argument and can’t bring up anything rational to say) I would say it’s time to close this thread down.

I just want to nitpick this point a bit. Godwin’s law merely states that in any discussion on a forum, the German political party of the 1930s will be brought up. It does not imply that the arguments are no longer rational. That being said, references to that German political party of the 1930s often tend to be out of scale, subject to slippery slope fallacies, or are appeal to emotions, but there are legitimate applications of such comparisons.

Should I stop with the mystic toilet? Probably… because it occurs to me that if it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.

Here is an interesting question: if you look at the precursors in the TP, how many do come from regular drops and how many do come from the MF?

Personally I have no clue but I have the slight feeling the majority is from the MF.

I’ve had 3 Precursors so far (2 this past week!).

Of those 3, 2 were from the MF (I was just unlocking skins, not trying to forge anything) and 1 was from a champion bag.

Now you have my anecdote.

throwing a coin, your chances are 50% heads, 50% tails, however you could easily get heads 20 times in a row before you see tails.

I wouldn’t say easily. While each independent flip technically is a 50/50 chance, the probability of getting 20 in a row is (1/2)^20, which is a reeeeaallly small chance.

The probability of getting any specific combination of 20 in a row is the exact same. The issue is that we’ve deemed some specific combinations to be preferable to others and thus are unhappy when those specific combinations do not appear.

If you define free, as costing money your are correct
but valueless is false.
time has value, even if it is recreational time. This is why if someone wants to call a locksmith to open a door, in his off hours, he charges them more, because his recreational time has value. This is why you get paid more for overtime, because your extra time has value.
This is why some people will tell their bosses to noway when they call for some extra hours.

And lastly, this is why people will pay money to be able to spend more of their recreational time doing what they actually enjoy doing, rather than preparing to do it, because that time has value.

Time only has value if you are getting something for it. Time that you spend on activities that do not generate value, is valueless. Time you PLAN to spend on such activities has the potential to generate value, but once you engage that activity, your time has become worthless.

value doesnt = monetary value.
things have value even should the entire monetary system cease to exist.

and even if you only believe in monetary value(which is intrinsicly incorrect), something has monetary value because of how much someone would be willing to PAY for it. Not because of how much you sold it for. Once you have sold it you no longer have something of monetary value, you have money.

Value = What OTHERS are willing to trade you for something.

No one is willing to pay you to play GW2, thus it is time that has no value.
You may get ENJOYMENT from it, but that is an intrinsic concept that has no value to others.

If I give you a stick, it has value. If you enjoy throwing sticks so you throw it away, your stick no longer has value. You got enjoyment, but are out a stick that you could have traded for a rock. Your stick is gone, you got nothing real for it.

value isnt actually about what others are willing to trade you. Value is about what something is worth.
“the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.”

Im the last man on earth, like i am legend, do you think batteries have no value now? what about electricity? What about the dog that follows me around. Does food now have no value?

for the sake of dealing with others, people haggle and try to determine the trade value of items, but in order to acknowledge the trade value of items, you must first acknowledge that it has some actual value in and of itself.

Even within your analogy, the stick you threw away still has value, you just no longer have it. whoever finds that stick now has its value. He may even sell it back to you, because you like throwing sticks away.

And going back to guild wars, yes in fact people are willing to pay you to play GW2, its called the gold to gem exchange, and ANET sells people the time you put into guild wars.
They have renegade illegal people who will also sell people the time they put into guild wars without letting anet into the picture.

In fact players are willing to give anet money so that they can spend more of the time they alloted for guild wars actually playing what they want to play

So yes time still has value, the stick has value, and even monetarily it has value

In an economic discussion, the economic usage of “value” must be used.

Sometimes I think ANet shouldn’t have put in the gold to gems option. It seems to make some people feel entitled to free stuff.

Are there even any non subscription based MMOs that give away free bank and inventory slots? If there are MMOs that give away free bank slots, I would bet the people are paying a monthly subscription fee. It’s the subscription fee that allows those MMOs to give away stuff. It’s not reasonable to expect a game without a subscription fee to have the same features. One way or another, they have to have income.

Oh I am sorry. I did not know wanting space to cost a static amount of gold meant free. Next time I will check with you on whether gold is a real currency in the game or not, before I post.

The reason why bank and extra bag is behind gem store.

Gold is so much easier to gain nowadays than launch, but cost for gold convert to gem (that means getting gem store item for free) is increased a lot as well. Therefore, the longer the game life, the more expensive gold to gem cost, on the other hand, it is so much easier to pay cash to buy gem than getting it for free.

If bag and bank space become fixed gold cost, the longer a player stays, the easier they get the item for free. This is the reason why Astral said people are asking for free stuff.

Well he is completely wrong. Also, how much gold can you gain now, compared to 1 year ago? It is probably less.

Might look up what completely wrong means. When I started one gold was a good amount for an hour (personally). Now ten gold is fairly common in an hour.

Ok? That has absolutely no relevance to what I said. But nice one!

Shakes head walks away.

Thank you for your random input. Next time follow the stuff you are quoting. Here:

- Astral believes anything that costs gold is ‘free’.
- Astral is completely wrong.

gold is free, anyone play the game gain gold…

unless, you pay credit card for gold, beware what you’ve revealed….

any item with fixed in game gold is more or less free, because anyone play the game with their own pace, can gather enough gold sooner or later without spending a real world penny. That equal to free in a longer term.

As for gem, the more player convert gold to gem, the less player buy gem for gold, it is the reason why gem is expensive to buy with gold. If the Item cost gem, means the later you buy it, the more gold it cost you. (This is the reason of this thread) This make either players with a lot of free time (able to play a lot for a lot of gold: play to win) or players able to pay with credit card (pay for time). This is a well balanced system imo.

Using your time does NOT mean free. Do you work for free?

Your recreational time is free, because it is not otherwise being used to generate income. You’ve already made the decision to “waste” your time, thus it is valueless.

Do you think that the show Hoarders would do an episode about digital hoarding?

@OP: Your issue stems from the fact that you are looking at the gold cost of a gem item. The gem price has remained constant, because that is the INTENDED method of acquisition. ArenaNet has GRACIOUSLY decided to let you also spend your time (gold) to acquire gem items, based on the ratio that your time bears to the time others spend acquiring gem items. If you feel that this ratio is no longer beneficial, it is because you are not contributing enough time to the game, not because the item is too expensive. Others simply want those things MORE than you do, and are willing to put in the time to get those things for time rather than real world money (which, again, is the INTENDED way to get it).

This is a classic case of “looking a gift horse in the mouth”. You’ve managed to find a way to complain about something nice that someone has given you.

There are many reliable ways to farm cloth. They are just very different from the ways you farm ores, lumber, and plants.

Many of those ways aren’t able to be quickly targeted though, which is what annoys many farmers.

Using buy orders to salvage requires you to wait. Buying karma armor and forging it requires karma. Running Silverwastes nets you a wide range of materials as well. Killing level-appropriate mobs for armor drops takes time.

I can appreciate the desire for quickly targeting farming, but I can also understand why they aren’t going to add that now. The methods in game right now allow us to achieve the farming result everyone is looking for, they just require you to go above and beyond normal “run to the node and wait” gameplay.

In terms of forging precursors, it doesnt matter, which level the exotic weapon is, as long as it is lvl 75+.
That change in the APril feature patch didnt mean that the chance of getting a precursor was nerfed, nor the chance of getting a named exotic. The level 76-79 exotic weapons you sometimes get from the forge now, mostly replaced crafted exotic (pearl) weapons on the loot table.
Given the fact that those lvl 76-79 weapons usually have a sigil on them as well as a stat combo that lets you salvage an inscription (dire, magi, shaman etc.) off of them, i would rather get one of them than an exotic level 80 pearl weapon.

This is correct. Your ability to forge a precursor is not being negatively impacted, however your chance at different skins and weapons/armor with sigils/runes was improved.

While the old dailies were generally possible to achieve for many people playing their “regular” gameplay; that was more of a pve thing. I don’t think this was that true for wvw/pvp players all the time. This system runs the opposite, where pvp players generally can get the dailies through usual play, and wvw players can usually get it. This is usually because their achievements aren’t too specific… except the profession one which people complain about, and that actually does cause problems. Which ironically means if we consider your point that if dailies are there to make you do stuff that you normally wouldn’t do, that it sort of fails in two aspects of the game then!

When I say “you” I’m referring to “PvE players”. ArenaNet wants people to play PvP and WvW, they don’t really need to incentivize the PvP and WvW players to play PvE.

Except the dailies were changed to make PvPers and WvWers be able to do dailies without touching PvE. Except by giving them a way to avoid PvP, PVE players are now being nudged into PvP, WvW and Fractals.

Right. ArenaNet wants to reward PvE players for playing PvP, WvW and Fractals. They aren’t nudging PvP and WvW players because those players are already doing what they want to incentivize others to do.

You don’t have to remove or reduce the time gates.

You just make it so you don’t have to get multiple times somthing you can already use with multiple characters.

You don’t have to unlock dyes separately anymore. You don’t have to unlock separately skins, miniatures, finishers, outfits, mail carriers, newly added PvP upgrades, WXP rank points….

You already have them for the entire account.

The only differentce with account items that are not unlocks is the hassle.

You can already use them with multiple characters. But with them you have to choose between being limited to one skin combination and constantly swap them in the bank and obtaining them with all characters.

If you want a sldier heavy armor set and a berserker heavy armor set it makes sense to have to make two.

But you already can use a soldier heavy armor set with two characters, and it does not make sense to have to pay full costs for another one to use it with another character when you can already swap it in the bank.

But constantly swapping them in the bank is a hassle. So, instead of that, making more of the account-bound stuff you already obtained once should have a reduced cost or be just free.

So you want the entire game economy to collapse just so that you don’t have to craft another set of unnecessary BiS armor?

There are many people who have decided to make a set of armor for each character, regardless of your personal opinion that it is “not worth it”. If these people didn’t have to do that and could simply get a free copy of a full set of armor for every character just because they did it once already, you would be gutting the demand for ascended armor, which guts demand for nearly every basic crafting material in the game.

The decisions they make are bigger than your account. They have to consider the overall impact on everyone’s account.

The time gate is not a punishment, it is a necessity in maintaining a healthy economy.

Too specific and too few options in each category. You get 4 options and need 3 of them for the completion, but what if 2 of those options aren’t a good fit for someone? What would it hurt to have say, 8 options for each category? There’s a better chance then that someone would find their needed 3 dailies for completion.

It would also be great to be able to do dailies in whatever zone I’m leveling in on a given day, too. Pulling out an 80 I’m not wanting to play right now for a zone that is too high for alts can be a pain.

If they gave you more options, then you could get the AP without participating in the type of content they want to incentivize you to participate in, which would defeat the purpose of the daily AP.

That’s why you won’t see additional options added. It’s not supposed to be a “Log in>Play by Myself>Collect Reward for no extra effort” type thing, but rather a “Log in>Play with Others> Collect Reward”.

The old dailies gave you a lot of options, making completing them so easy and convenient that you didn’t actually have to do anything other than what you normally did. The old system was therefore completely ineffective at achieving the goal of having players try other types of content. The new system limits options in order to make it mandatory that you leave your comfort zone if you want the daily AP.

The new ones fail miserably at that too…

…Personally, I can’t help but get the impression that the PvE dailies were intentionally designed to push people to fractals, the PvP dailies, or the WvW dailies, rather than to provide PvE options of a similar nature.

You start out claiming that they fail at their goal, then end up concluding that they are doing exactly what you claim they fail to do.

Maybe I wasn’t clear. I was trying to claim:

1) that the PvP and WvW dailies don’t push those players to do anything they wouldn’t normally do.

2) Most of the PvE dailies that do push players to do things they wouldn’t normally do are just pushing pointless nonsense timewaster activities rather than experiencing other types of PvE game play. Viewing a low level vista, gathering lumber in a zone, etc. aren’t like “complete a fractal”, “complete a dungeon path”, “defeat a world boss”, “complete X in dry top”, “complete X in the silverwastes” etc. that would actually push players to try new PvE stuff.

The only way “the dailies are supposed to push players to try/play different things” works is if you really just mean pushing only PvE players to try PvP/WvW to avoid intentionally crappy PvE options.

Yes, the ultimate goal is a bit transparent. They want people participating in Fractals, WvW, and PvP. To do that, they are giving everyone a bonus reward each day if they do. The silly parts on PvE like looking at a Vista are mostly there so that low level players who have just started are able to get their daily done as well.

The way the dailies were before, there were a lot of easy options. That’s what I meant. We simply had more to choose from. Choices are always a good thing, and no, there’s no implied they need to be difficult since they really weren’t before.

The point of dailies is to incentivize you to do things you would not otherwise do. The old dailies failed miserably at doing that since they were basically automatic, that’s why they were changed.

Having a few time gated items is a good thing, as it forces players who would otherwise be done in 2-3 days to log in and play for 2-3 months instead.

There is no problem with the current time gates, as they do not impact anything that must be accomplished quickly in order to enjoy the game.

I think ArenaNet found a very good balance of time-gated versus non-time-gated currencies.

Just quit and join a new map. There is no reward for losing past the daily participation so there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to stick around on a losing team.

There are a few WvW and PvP achieves that are by far the easiest to complete, surpassing even the PvE ones in terms of brain-dead simplicity.

Caravan Killer – Go kill a yak.
Ruin Master – Go sit still.
WvW Land Claimer – Go kill a sentry and then sit still.
PvP Point capturer – Go sit still.
PvP Rank Points – Die as much as you want.

I understand the desire to quickly get on a map that is about to pay out, but as the guy who works really hard to get to that point no matter what percent the map happens to be on when I get there, you’ll get no sympathy from me.

My understanding was that the loot rarity is determined upon monster death, but the actual loot item is rolled for upon picking it up. I think it was John Smith who had said something about this back in the archived Black Lion Trading Company forum. If I had time I’d try to look it up for you.

First, ensure that the interior of your PC is clean (i.e. open the case and blow out the dust). Overheating can cause the exact issue you are describing.

Nexon vs NCSoft 2015

Actually they can’t make changes. What they have to do is get the bulk of the stock holders to become dissatisfied. That’s what they’re attempting.

They’re saying here NCSoft isn’t giving you enough return on your investment. So they can try to get a block of votes.

But NcSoft isn’t going to sit there and let this pass unchallenged. And most saavy stock holders will know this is a power play anyway.

Stockholders are why we can’t have nice things.

I’ll bet there isn’t 0.1% of shares held by people who have actually played an MMO. Heck, most of them probably don’t even know Guild Wars 2 is part of their investment. All they care about is their ROI. They are too busy jetting around on their Gulfstreams visiting real life exotic locations and full service luxury hotels to ever have the time for a game.

The majority of stock is probably tied up in working people’s 401(k) plans via mutual fund bundling. People who can afford to buy their own airplanes tend to have a much more detailed knowledge of where all their money is.

Nexon makes its profits via parasitism.
They latch on to another company, take a controlling stock interest, influence the board and executives into making short term profits to drive up the stock prices and pay substantial dividends, then dump their stock to cash in leaving the company a cashless, directionless, customerless mess.

The fact that they are going public with this statement tells me that NCSoft has been resisting Nexon’s attempts to sink in their fangs… how long they can continue is the real question now (a 15% stake can turn into a controlling stake if you manage to get the board of directors stacked with people who you selected).

Outfits only replace the visual of your armor. You still have to equip armor to get the stats for combat (it is “hidden” while under the effect of an outfit).

Unfortunately, there are very few outfits and they are not customizable.

Basically, save your transmutation charges for level 80, because using them on sub 80 characters is a waste.

Upside, it only takes a week or so to hit 80 if you focus on leveling.
