I use the MF to turn blue and green armor into cloth armor, turn green weapons and armor into rare weapons and armor, and sigils and runes into exotics that sell for less than half of each rare rune/sigil I threw in in the blatantly futile effort to get one of the 3-4 good runes/sigils instead of the 40 or so completely pointless ones.

The only way to “improve” your drops is to increase your kills per hour rate.

The guy who buys 1,000 lotto tickets has a better chance of winning than the guy who buys 1 lotto ticket.

Likewise, the player who kills 1,000 enemies has more chances of getting good loot than the player who only kills 1 enemy.

I don’t have a problem with people “cussing” in general (such as when they miss that last jump in a JP and plummet to the beginning), but if I see anyone directing insults at others I submit a report.

I don’t typically report “offensive names” because almost nothing offends me. I mean, they would have to be super overboard with the name for me to even notice it, and I still probably wouldn’t care enough to report it.

It’s when stuff is targeted at my fellow players that I use the report feature.

5 to 10 silver would be great. getting less than 1 silver is really bad

If they did this, you would like it for about 10 minutes. After that, the prices would climb 5-10 times and you would STILL be unable to afford anything using event gold.

One other note:

If you do want to continue to use the forge, run dungeons.

You get gold for the dungeons (which you should save so that you can buy Dawn) but you also get tokens. These tokens can be traded in for Exotic Weapons, which you can then throw into the Mystic Forge. If you get lucky, you’ll get your precursor without having to spend any money. If you don’t get lucky, you’ll still eventually get the gold you need and can buy the precursor.

It’s kind of a win-win

Freedom to reduce listing prices on TP

Bad game design I’m not so sure about that. What about you develop your opinion on that ?

Arbitrary limits require constant attention to be moved up and down as the economy shifts, or they get left alone and cause permanent damage because they were not manually modified when needed. This is because they do not scale with the economy on their own.

That is why they are bad game design.

Well designed limits will adjust themselves based on what the current state of the economy is, not based on last year’s state.

The listing price serves to act as a deterrent to the type of activities that you are asking to be allowed to do (using the TP as storage and making bad pricing decisions), plus you are just introducing arbitrary limits (the time period for free relists or the gold amount for a fee reduction) which are evidence of bad game design (because they do not scale).

If you don’t want to do the research necessary to sell your expensive item using a listing, fill a buy order.

No one is opposed to getting more transmutes. The realistic people are pointing out that any such unlimited use item WILL come with some kind of offset to make up for the lost revenue.

DR only applies to weapon / armor drops but not to crafting mats.

I always love when people complain about it and have never really noted that.

Site your reference for that?

DR stops all drops it’s not tuned to key for only certain items and it’s used to stop loot period.

Tell that to the people who reported not getting any loot and people who are still reporting whole chests disappearing from events.

Anyway, Karma could easily fix this problem as well so that people wouldn’t have to use gold for every single piece of anything in the game. The cost of lodestones would then not matter.

I thought the no loot or chests were bugs and not at all related to DR?
Unless they just kept a character parked at the event, and completed the event, then logged back out? If they did that for awhile, than it could possible trigger DR.

Although I do agree that DR, if ever reached would effect all drops, and not just drops of a certain type.

That isn’t DR, that’s a bug where your event credit sticks. You have to leave the map in order to reset your event status and the chests will work again.

Also, stopping to watch the cutscene pretty much says, “I’ve never been here before and I probably don’t have the gear/build to do anything but slow down the party and let them carry me instead of carrying my own weight.” or “I’ve been here before and know what I am doing, but I like to make everyone else wait.”

If you want to enjoy the cutscenes, do it with buddies in Team Speak or look them up on YouTube or clear it with the party first in chat.

Save up your gold and buy the precursor you want off of the Trading Post.

Or

Wait for the Heart of Thorns release and do the new Precursor Crafting Mastery.

Using the forge is what you do when you have lots of gold to waste on gambling.

I have obtained 3 Precursors so far. The first (which became my Legendary) came from a random Mystic Forge attempt (I was not trying to get one, just unlocking skins). The second came from a random Champion Bag which I then sold. The third also came from a random forge attempt while unlocking skins (currently sitting in my bank while I decide what to do with it).

You’ll notice that none of these were planned for. I was in the process of saving up gold, not spending it on Mystic Forge attempts.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Transmutation Charges generate revenue for ArenaNet. If you want to cut off that revenue stream, it has to be made up elsewhere.

Your $10 gemstore skins are now $30 to make up the lost revenue, plus you now have to buy $20-30 Wardrobe Charges to unlock individual skins in your wardrobe (which can be applied for free once unlocked).

See how that works?

We’ve got the best layout right now. People who change their gear a lot fund the game and people who don’t get enough free charges to still change their looks from time to time.

An unlimited use Transmutation Stone would definitely be inside the Black Lion Chest lottery, not in the gem store.

If it was in the gem store, you’re looking at 10,000+ gems (due to the amount of revenue they would lose over the game’s lifetime for each person who buys one, especially when you consider that the people who would buy one are the same people who currently generate most of their Transmute revenue now).

I’m going to say that the argument of not touching the Behemoth because it is in a newbie zone is invalid because of the amount of level 80’s that show up for the fight. If it was just newbies that fought it, then it would be ok.

But honestly, most of these so called “World Bosses” are just

But you don’t want to make it so hard that the newbies find it too hard. You don’t want to turn them off of world bosses. Especially not with it being in the human starter zone. Since a lot of people roll human.

At this point in time (post mega server transition) there is no situation in which only new players would be attempting this content, thus the argument that it will be too hard for new players is invalidated. Prior to the mega server transition, that argument could adequately be used to argue against changes.

Shatterer should be modified so that players cannot damage him directly. Defending the turrets and breaking crystals should be how the players get credit for the event. The turrets should be manned by the NPCs to prevent players from griefing the event.

Mob spawns should be amped up, and the regen crystals should each get a buff that either reflects all projectiles, or puts 25 stacks of bleed on melee range players, that way the players need to adjust which crystal they are attacking based on whether they are ranged or melee.

RNG is a numbers game, right?

I have been playing GW2 for almost 3 years now, and have put in many many hours, 5 world completions, 13 lev 80 toons, 3 legendary weapons. I would like to know why every time their is a patch, the RNG numbers are changed to give worse drops? I cannot understand why you manipulate the numbers so badly that when I throw 3 lev 80’s exotics into the forge with a mystic stone, my returns have gone from lev 80, to lev 78, to now lev 76. I seriously cannot waste time doing boss runs day after day, and get absolutely useless items out the forge. This is part of my game that I enjoy, however, its getting a bit stale and boring, and RNG is open to change by simply changing the numbers. I cannot fathom this out, as base stat, MF and all the other boost’s are simply smoke and mirrors. It makes no difference what youre MF is. I open 50 chests and get 1 rare, and the rest blues and greens. Please review the boss drops or do something, as I am so utterly bored right now, and need to be convinced that you looking after the players, without whom, you have nothing.

Level 75+ exotics are treated the exact same way in the Forge.

This means that there is no negative impact on your ability to try for another precursor using that level 75 or higher exotic.

Essentially, 75-80 exotics are all the same for Mystic Forge purposes, thus you are not losing anything by getting a level 76.

Very Questionable Gem Pricing For Keys

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

It’s not legitimately gambling cause “gambling” would mean that their is a chance to obtain nothing. Since you always receive something from a BLTC chest this questionable method of selling keys gets a free pass.

This obviously raise ethical questions because you’re buying a item for a chance to get something you may or may not want.

Better to take the easy route and save up gold for what you want and not waste your money.

Actually, it is not legitimately gambling because gambling means there is a chance to obtain something. No matter what comes out of the chest, it is just a virtual batch of computer code and is worth nothing. If it had any kind of real world value to you, THEN it would be considered gambling.

Grind is still grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

But the game is extremely grindy because of the gold-grind.

You can do whatever you want and get the same rewards that I do when I do whatever I want. Doing stuff you want to do is NOT a grind, therefore your premise is incorrect. This game is NOT grindy because you can do what you want and get the rewards. If you CHOOSE to do content you DON’T want to do because you believe it will be faster at reaching the rewards then you are imposing an unnecessary grind on the game YOURSELF. YOU are the GRIND, not the game.

Specific content per item, but then again all items have different content so you are in reality send all over the world to do many different types of content while the grind-option usually means your choice is getting limited.

I don’t want to kill the Super Elite Fire Ooze King 400 times to get the Ooze Crown of Super Eliteness. I want to do whatever I want and still be able to get the Ooze Crown of Super Eliteness. GW2 allows me to do that, thus the specific content for specific item system is INFERIOR to the GW2 system.

I like hunting down items.. But the only way to do that is by grinding gold.

Play the content you like and you won’t be grinding gold, you’ll be getting rewarded for playing how you like to play.

Yeah, just not how it works in reality. That has been debunked multiple times in this thread. If you like cosmetics just doing some other stuff will not make you the gold you need to buy all the cosmetics you like.. for most people at least. Except if grindy-like content happens to be what you like. Plus that you still miss out of the hunt for the item.

Your incorrect opinion is not a “debunk”. In reality you can make gold doing whatever you want, and then use that gold to buy whatever you want. YOU just want YOUR style of play to be faster than other styles of play at generating gold so that YOU can skip the playing and satisfy your desire to be instantly satisfied. That’s bad game design.

So taking away an option is makes it superior. Well if grinding gold is what you like and you hate it when other people don’t grind but work directly work towards item.. then I guess it is vastly superior for you. I can’t see any other boundaries in what that system is superior (in a game at least).

No options have been taken away. You have the option to play however you want to play. This game offers MORE options than the other MMOs, which is why it is superior. Again, you just want YOUR CHOICE to be superior to the other playstyles and are masking that request with these ridiculously fallacious arguments about how grindy this game is and how it lacks options when it quite provably is less grindy and have MORE options than it’s competitors.

If you really feel that the current reward system is so bad and that only systems that reward actual grinding (which is what you’ve been asking for) are valid, then I’m sorry but this game will never be “for you”. There are plenty of older MMOs that reward killing the Super Elite Fire Ooze King 400 times already. I’m sure you’d be happier there. But again, I don’t think you are actually being truthful in your claims as I believe it is much more likely that you simply want your play style to be buffed and are using this ludicrous thread to mask your intentions.

Yeah, and what is wrong with that principal? The idea with titles is that they are a distinction, a declaration of accomplishment. Whether he calls that element ego or some other term is not the issue. It’s a valid concern that people who have worked hard for rare titles don’t wish to later see them handed out for free in error. And semantics aside, we all know it.

For trinkets, I’ve been saving them up for forge attempts to see if you can actually get anything good for them (like the collection items). I have almost no sample size though since they drop very rarely (and I’m not going to sink any gold into buying and forging).

His point is simple … add more ways for people to grind so they can choose the method that suits them. The problem is that it’s not the method that’s the issue because we have MANY methods we can choose to earn rewards. The REAL issue is that there is a gold standard. The unfortunate part of these ‘grind’ threads don’t recognize that this will always be the primary reward in the game.

Gold (or some substitute) will always be the prime currency, but it does not have to be the prime reward. If I was to build an MMO from the ground up I would also add in gold, but I would design it so that the items are the primary reward and gold should be something you earn along the way that lets pay some vendor stuff you might need. But I would not want gold be the primary reward in a MMORPG, or it even being such an important element.

That would turn the game to much into a job. Gold / currency is a great way to trade things but an MMORPG should be much more about the hunt and the challenge of getting the stuff that way.. I guess like if you were to kill an evil dragon and have the dragon head on your wall. That is the hunt and the reward I think it should be about in an MMO. Not getting the same head by buying it with gold you earned by killing rabbits and selling the skin.

Gold being the primary reward system is what makes this game so NON-grindy. Making items the main reward would simply INCREASE the amount of grind since you’d be shoehorned into doing specific content repeatedly in order to get specific items.

Gold as a reward allows you to focus on playing the content you like and eventually being able to acquire almost anything you want.

It is a vastly superior system to the old item reward schemes.

Runes and Sigils

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mtpelion.4562

For this suggestion to work, the following must happen:

1. Crafting Recipes for all Runes/Sigils would need to be introduced.
2. All Crafting Recipes would need to be redone so that the material requirement are many TIMES higher (we’re talking full stacks of refined materials and multiple tens of rare crafting materials).
3. Only Runes/Sigils created after the change would unlock the Rune/Sigil for your account. Runes/Sigils that are available now would still be able to be socketed and used, but would not unlock the Rune/Sigil for your account.
4. Runes/Sigils would unlock for each SLOT (so you will need 6 runes to unlock it for all armor slots and 2 Sigils to unlock it for first and second Sigils).
5. Activating an unlocked Rune/Sigil will REPLACE the existing Rune/Sigil (meaning if you bought an old Rune off the TP and were using it, then used an unlocked Rune over it you would have to buy the Rune again if you wanted to go back to it).

With the way rewards are handled in GW2, if you feel that you are grinding it is because you CHOSE to take the efficient route rather than the fun route to your target.

All routes lead to the same target. I can PvP and buy nearly anything. I can WvW and buy nearly anything. I can PvE and buy nearly anything. I can do dungeons or fractals and buy nearly anything. I can farm Orr or Silverwastes and buy nearly anything. I can do nearly anything and as a result can buy nearly anything.

This means that I can completely avoid doing anything I don’t want to do and still get the same rewards as the guy who does the complete opposite.

That is what is meant by “no grind philosophy”. You can play the type of content that you like and will still get the same rewards as everyone else.

If you are doing content you don’t like simply because it is “faster”, then you are simply cheating yourself out of enjoyment of the game to satisfy your demand for instant gratification.

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

Do you believe that rewards should be a function of time spent or a function of how time is spent?

It should be a reasonable balance of the two. Basically, some activities can be more or less rewarding than others, obviously, but any activity in the game that involves a reasonable amount of challenge and engagement should provide roughly the same amount of reward on average, and no such activities should provide either negligible reward or significantly over the top reward.

Relative to this discussion, the TP should not provide rewards magnitudes higher than the same amount of time invested in any other aspect of the game, nor should any other activity. If, say, Dry Top farming were to offer 50g per hour, I think players could reasonably complain that it was too heavily favored over other activities. That was the problem with the Destiny Loot Cave from a player perspective, that it offered so much loot relative to other activities that it made them seem like a waste of time, even if players did not find the loot cave particularly enjoyable. And that’s the problem the TP causes now, that players feel compelled to spend time working it because of the massive reward potentials, even if they do not find the activity to be a particularly enjoyable experience. It becomes work rather than play.

The TP though is simply two players agreeing to exchanges goods and coins. There is no way that concept can be balanced around other forms of reward structure since every other source of rewards is based only on your decision to do it or not.

That is why time spent on the TP is “rewarded” orders of magnitude above the built in rewards, because it cannot be limited, and players clearly value expediency over gold.

That’s why cloth is more expensive than ore and logs. Because players are more than willing to trade their coins to other players in order to get the cloth faster. Cloth actually represents the kind of “balanced” reward structure that many posters here are asking for. All players, regardless of how they play, are able to acquire it at around the same rate. Cloth (and leather) represent rewards based on TIME SPENT while ore and logs represent rewards based on HOW time is spent.

The TP then acts as the tool by which these two types of rewards are balanced as it allows players to trade one type of reward for another.

I run dungeons with my Necro.

Sure, you aren’t going to get invites to speed runs, but that’s probably for the best. Who wants to hang out with people who belittle you for your character choice anyway?

You cant call pug group speedrun in any terms. And serious runners take necros to parties if not duing record runs. It’s not a top notch class but it’s viable. Plz dont make assumptions about ppl you dont know. It makes you look childish.

No assumptions were made. Speed runners have strict rules about who comes along. If you want to play something else, don’t play with them. Trust me, they won’t play with you.

My point being, they don’t like playing with people who don’t fit their tight criteria. If you don’t fit their criteria, they will not be kind to your attempts to join them. Better for both groups to avoid each other.
