I use the press to target>release to cast option. While it doesn’t center on your target, it does wonders in terms of putting the AoE where you want it instead of where your cursor happens to be.

Not really dead. I’ve got another idea. If yo want to trade something in GW2 to a certain player, you can’t. Here is another idea:
1. You send to a player a special mail, in which you attach your item you want to sell. The player can get the attachment, but only if he pays a sum determined by the seller. The transaction could also have a TP fee.

Some might want to sell items just for guildies. If he puts them on TP, other players outside the guild might grab them first.

Yay, now gold sellers can bomb us with trade mail that we have to carefully ensure we appropriately decline!

Anet created the TP as a marketplace INSTEAD of player-to-player trading. I doubt they’d go back on their word and return to a system that is antiquated and rife with scamming.

GW1 had player-to-player trading, and even though it seemed fool-proof, there were plenty of ways that people could get scammed. (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Scam)

The main reason why people want this method of trading is to bypass the listing an selling fees that the trading post has. If Anet made a player-to-player trading system, it would have to uphold the 15% tax anyway or they risk creating a double economy and huge inflation This 15% tax would negate most people wanting to sell through player-to-player anyway, considering how convenient the TP is.

Lastly, if they made a player-to-player trading system they would have to spend a lot more resources maintaining it (and its advertising channels) and increase the amount of moderators dealing with scammers.

And since there isn’t really a good way to determine what 15% of an item for item trade is, they will never put this in the game.

4. It increases the workload of ArenaNet employees who have to deal with #3.

Sword AA is not broken or bugged, it is just, as a max DPS weapon, incredibly poorly designed and directly conflicts with ArenaNet’s stated design goals.

They should nerf Sword damage (it has too much utility for a high damage weapon) and buff Greatsword damage (perhaps at the cost of losing the auto-evade).

Rangers have god-awful focus in their weapon designs, and the few weapons we do have that have a clear purpose aren’t terribly good at it.

If your thousands of hours aren’t spent killing LOTS of enemies, you aren’t maximizing your chances per hour and thus your thousands of hours are really only worth a few hundred or so.

Stackeable conditions and power builds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

The biggest problem with fixing condition damage is that it really requires a complete overhaul of the entire gear/stat system at the ground level.

Condition Damage should never have been a stat. Duration is OK, as are traits that increase damage.
Each player should only be able to apply one “stack” of each condition.
All values (damage per tick, duration, application method, etc.) would all need to be redone to balance.

These changes, while MAJOR, would resolve the condition problem. You’d still gear for Power for DPS, but would trait for conditions if you wanted to play a condition spec. Condition damage should be supplemental to the build, not the build itself.

AFK events/vinewrath

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

If we set the timeout to be 5 minutes, it would really cut down on the number of “harmful” AFKers.

If the map is able to quickly beat all three bosses, we’re talking about 8 minutes or so. If you can down the Vinewrath in 8 minutes, then the AFKers didn’t prevent the active players from completing the task so kicking them wasn’t necessary.

If the map is unable to quickly beat all three bosses, we will be extending the fight for several more minutes as the paths fail and get reattempted a few minutes later (until you win or lose all 15 siege). Because the fight is being extended, the 5 minute timer will start to kick in and purge the AFKers who are clearly harming the map’s ability to successfully complete the event (either because they are scaling things up, or occupying a space that a useful person could be occupying). By getting rid of these AFKers, the map is then able to effectively complete the task (albeit in a longer amount of time).

So yeah, I do think maps like Silverwastes need a more aggressive AFK kick, and I think that 5 minutes or so is a reasonable amount of time.

Of course, you’ll always have the leechers who figured out the auto-run key, but those folks are dedicated to bad behavior and are going to be nearly impossible to keep out.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Raising the level cap breaks the game, especially if it only applies to people who buy the expansion.

It’s nothing more than a dirty trick used to manipulate the players into thinking they are being given more content, when the reality is that they are simply doing the same content over again just to get back to where they were before.

I have absolutely zero respect for game companies that employ this tactic as it is unethical in every respect and insulting to those who have an average or better level of intelligence.

That said, I am incredibly relieved to hear that Guild Wars is treating us with respect and not trying to trick us onto the 1990s hamster wheel model.

If you whisper them instructions (such as “please don’t attack the bubbles, they must be killed when the boss is within the light blue circle, thanks!”) and they proceed to continue the bad behavior you may consider reporting them at that time (although they may not speak your language, so it is still possible that your whisper was not understood).

Zerker problem?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

The “Zerker Problem” is the result of two choices made by ArenaNet:
1. Having Active Defense (dodging).
2. Having all offensive and all defensive stat allocations.

Choice 1 is one that I agree with, as it makes the game more fun.
Choice 2 is the problem. When you make a game that allows a large difference between the best and worst in terms of DPS, the percentage of “unacceptable” builds is also larger. This leads to a playerbase split between those who demand the most efficient runs (and those who blindly think they are following the most efficient runs just because they copy their build) and those who don’t care that much about efficiency and are just playing to have fun. Once those two groups meet up, the terms “elitists” and “scrubs” show up almost instantly.

Ideally, there would be no gear sets that have only offensive or only defensive stats as this would squish the possible DPS range and increase the number of “acceptable” gear sets which would then make both groups less hostile to each other. Obviously, there would still be the actual “elitists” who only want the meta in their group because they are doing speed runs (which, let’s be honest here, don’t have a problem with scrubs because they aren’t using the LFG tool, they have a whole guild dedicated to excluding non-meta players which keeps them out of the fray) and the actual “scrubs”, but they will have less of an impact.

Unfortunately, it’s probably too late to delete people’s gear and force them into a narrower band of DPS possibilities (remember all that ruckus over the Magic Find removal? and that wasn’t even a helpful stat at all!), so we are stuck with the current toxic environment where the two sides throw stones and hurt everyone in the middle.

1. The evidence was not known to be false, or was incorrectly believed to be true – The presenter of the evidence may be a bit embarrassed, but certainly not humiliated. “Oops, sorry” and move on.

2. The evidence was known to be false and presented intentionally – The presenter deserves no respect from anyone, should be humiliated, and, in my opinion, have their forum access rescinded.

John Smith can’t humiliate someone for an honest mistake. The truth is ALWAYS humiliating to a liar though, so if the OP feels humiliated, then that speaks to his intentions.

The problem is that to a lore-fanatic, there is no such thing as a minor error. When people enjoy something enough to get REALLY into it, even the smallest breach of the universe is seen as a catastrophic end of times type deal.

I’d have to agree that it’s unprofessional. And brings other policies into question. I mean, we’re not allowed to be told in confidence that someone got punished for directly affecting us that we may have reported, but it’s okay to publicly embarrass a player that isn’t affecting any players at all?

Not unprofessional. When someone presents false data in an attempt (intentional or not) to make your business look bad, point out that the data is false is completely professional. In regard to examples like the coin flipping:

Think of it this way: each individual time you flip the coin, it’s still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails. So if you flipped the coin 999 times and got tails 899 times, then on that 1000th flip it is still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails.

Having it land on tails 899/999 times previously has no bearing whatsoever on the 1000th flip. None at all.

Expanding on this^

There is an exact same chance for EVERY combination of results from 1000 tosses to occur. The only reason 999/1 seems less likely is because you are looking for a SPECIFIC result in a sea of possible results. As there are a LOT more SPECIFIC results with a more even mix of heads and tails, the average will tend towards a 50/50 split and less towards the outlier results (1/999 and 999/1). Just be aware that you have the exact same chance of getting an outlier as you do of getting any other combination.

Granted, most people don’t care about the individual combination of toss results and care more about the overall average, which is why outliers are seen as “good” or “bad” luck.

Except Arenanet did not say what release model they were going to use before launch. Yes they never said anything about expansions but they never said anything about Living Story either.

So a better analogy would be: Going to a restaurant that is called “restaurant”. You have no idea what kind of restaurant but still, it’s a restaurant. You go in, order a steak, then they suddenly change the name to Pizza Hut.

That argument stopped working when the game launched. Everyone knows that it is called “Best Burgers Ever” now.

Incorrect analogy. Guild Wars 1 had expansions and this game was advertised as a Guild Wars game. By the time the game launched nobody knew we would be getting Living Story. As far as anyone knew, Guild Wars 2 would have gotten expansions just like Guild Wars 1 got them.

If Arenanet made clear from the very beginning the game would have no traditional expansions, then your argument would have made sense.

The analogy is fine because REALITY trumps YOUR PERCEPTION OF IT.

What you expected is 100% irrelevant when compared to what has happened. You expected expansions, but none have been delivered. This means that your expectations are out of line with reality.

Continuing to expect reality to change itself to match your expectations leads to “cognitive dissonance”, which makes you unhappy despite getting exactly what you paid for. Now, ArenaNet could eventually release an expansion, but until they do you are still just a guy ordering pizza at a burger place and yelling at everyone who tells you to go down the road to Pizza Hut.

Have you actually played other MMORPG’s, or is GW2 your first MMO? if you were able to compare with past experience of expansions in other games, you would see that the content GW2 has offered over two years pales in comparison to even low budget, small dev team anime MMO’s

Expansions consist of a PAID FOR dump of content that players finish in 1 month or less followed by 1 year of NOTHING ADDED.

The GW2 model definitely needs some additional types of new content to really flesh it out, but delivering a stream of content over the ENTIRE year and FOR FREE is 100% superior to an expansion in every single way from a consumer point of view.

old-world expectations? Only “mmo” I’ve played for years is guild wars 1.
All others I tried, played a bit and then stopped.
I also played counter strike for years, same as LoL, and both games didnt have expansions.

You are saying things you don’t know.
What I demand is something frekittenhis game was stagnate for too long.
My demans are really that high huh? Please.

edit. saying fr.esh! is curse word? lol?

You’re getting fresh, free stuff every 2-4 weeks and complaining you are getting a stagnate game… so yeah, your demands are pretty ridiculous.
