I want to earn the achievement “Been There. Done That.” but I never want to leave the Eternal Battlegrounds because I only like WvW.
I want to earn the achievement “Realm Defender” but I don’t want to do all those supply runs.
I want to earn the achievement “Master Crafter” but the only craft I want to level is cooking.
What should I do?
You have every right to complain, even if those are pretty far fetched complaints, in which I would say, about 90% of this game just isn’t for you. I’ve done the work for my titles and if i don’t want to do an activity to get those points, i don’t, it’s that simple. Just because you’re tired of hearing it doesn’t make it less valid, nor do i even need to use the wording entitled, since that’s a given. Everyone has opinions…
Yet, when someone plays a game that is %90 PvE oriented, in both scope and actually amount of content only to find out that some of the larger achievements require them participate in a PvP environment, they either don’t do them or come here and complain. If there is enough feedback, then it’ll most likely get changed down the road, or at least that’s the hope. If it wasn’t for complaints and disagreements, game forums would be baron.
if meta-achievements were not achievable without the pvp part, things would be different, but they are not. Whether that argument gets old in your eyes is in no way relevant as long as you cannot bring up a convincing argument why PvE players SHOULD have easy access to everything.
Who said anything about easy, i’d say there are more people that can’t finish that puzzle with or without enemies, same with skipping stones or aetherblade… Like i said I do OS in no time, blowing past enemies before they can even get a skill off most of the time. I WvW on occasion as well. But, i can see the point being made that those achievements (pretty sure explorer is about as Meta as it gets) are actually required to at the very least, participate in a PvP environment. So, there is no argument, there are PvE centric achievements that require some aspect of PvP inclusion, there are people complaining about it, doesn’t make them entitled.
It’s really the same issue with world completion, MANY PvE people just don’t want to play PvP and being “forced” to, to earn PvE based achievements rubs them the wrong way. Associating jumping puzzles with PvE content isn’t hardly out of the realm of reality either, considering %90 of them are only found in PvE.
Among today´s Daily: Daily Mists Tower Capturer, Daily Mist Land Claimer, Daily Mist Invasion Defender. In Monthly: WvW Player Kills. Does any PvE player complain about not getting those? Sorry, I cannot help but seeing there is a big chunk of AP to be had for completing a rather bland jp (in itself) and pure PvE players not able to make it because they are unwilling to delve into PvP even on the smallest scale. Which is fine, but that does not entitle them in any way.
Including Dailies for WvW players to achieve is perfectly fine, wanted even. Tying a mostly PvE activity like map completion and the kite achievement is something different. It’s getting old hearing people use entitled as an argument for people that don’t want to do certain activities but are required to if they want to earn those achievements.

For PVE, you mine as well just guest…
You can always block and unblock them as needed…
I do OS in about 10 minutes max, just go in the AM (esp EST) and you won’t have a problem, even on weekends. I’ve run that puzzle with a group of 5 enemies on my b*tt in the AM and no one got harassed.
Watch what you wish for, they may make it so you can’t get to pvp wvw without being in a city…
The only way to do jumping puzzles and make money is portal the harder ones, skipping stones, OS or the aetherblade one. I usually take my guildies through some of the harder ones and end up portaling people, which leads to tips. Skipping Stones during those big events usually nets some pretty nice tip money, way better than you’d get from chests.
I’ve played WvW and there is absolutely no fear involved. The only fear association you can make about it is being laughed at for failing.
I don’t play games to get serious about heated battles over pixels. When i play WvW i go with small groups that cap camps, take out dolyaks and harass fortifications. When it’s starts getting too serious and people are “not following some master plan”, that’s when i bail. I’m all about team play, but i’m not going to get barked at by some jerk with a blue tag.
I don’t have actual benchmarks, but appcontainers help keep processes from borrowing CPU time from each other. Like in the case of a hanging app not killing other apps ability to monopolize the processor cycles while they were active. Plenty of core components can impact anything on top of them that use those services. The structure of the drivers for win8 for talking to the graphics controller could easily impact a games performance. OS is core level stuff, anything it does more efficiently only helps everything running on top of it.

Devata, can you please share your source regarding guild halls? Appreciated!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Raids-and-housing-coming-to-GW2/first
But now reading it again they say it was a bad translation so I have to withdraw that statement. First they said the translation error was that it was about guild-halls and not about player-housing. Not it seems that they did not confirm anything about that.
Thats a shame and GW2 really needs housing and guild-houses because some big rivals that will release there game within a year have it and many people want it.
There was a twitch interview talking about guild halls and housing being further down the road, but that they were working on them (guild halls) and making the home instance useful (i.e. the quartz node). I can almost remember them saying sometime next year about the halls… I could be wrong about that one though.
To all PvErs, this should get you into WvW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=tX6-gZw2tog#at=34

17 seconds into the video and now I don’t even want to install TeamSpeak because of this.
Why i use Mumble now
Allow me to be the first to say that yes, I play games for instant and continuous gratification. I’m actually not being sarcastic. That’s why I play games — gratification. If it’s not gratifying I don’t do it. I have better ways to spend my free time than doing
things that I don’t enjoy. That’s not to say that I need to get everything instantly, but I want to enjoy the process of getting it. I don’t want tedious and boring roadblocks put before me. I don’t want to farm 1000 skelks in order to get 25 powerful blood to forge 1 charged drop of blood essence per day. (which is the worst of both worlds)
I can’t say i disagree with you, but there is a balance to getting the stuff you want quickly and easily, versus some tedium toward the goal. One of the biggest issues facing the game is that there is too much tedium which would lead one to believe that slapping a time gate on top of it would make it worse. So, they really need to create a system where a player isn’t farming 1000 skelk to get one drop of “super-charged-vampire blood of insta kill”. I’m hoping with the reward system they’ve outlined, it’ll make the time gate feel much less obtrusive.
I’m pretty excited.. the only thing that I’m disappointed in is:
NO TENGU.
boooo.. Also.. the Precursor acquisition sounds more like grindy crafting than scavenger/legendary adventure. kinda lame.
Agreed on the no tengu announcement, but i bet there will be a storyline about them sooner than later.
I do think however the crafting aspect will require a great deal of scavenging/hunting for the needed mats (and maybe even recipe) to create one.
I’m not a fan of time gated stuff. There are plenty of ways to make things more rare, certain areas/events drop certain things. Event chains that need to be completed to gain access to certain items, rare recipes, rare salvages. But with the global marketplace and thousands of people doing things and selling things it’s a lot harder to create rarity without some sort of time gating mechanic or crazy RNG algorithms.
A good course of action would be to be able to buy someone a transfer. You could pool guild gold and transfer buddies over. It be nice if you could buy a transfer ticket instead of the gems too. People are already doing that now in guilds anyway, mine as well just tie it all together.
I think the materials to create them are time gated (like quartz is now), not the actual outcome. The time gated aspect is an attempt to make crafting more profitable and the items more rare, meaning the items to craft won’t be account bound (tier 7 materials). So, you could just craft the mat and sell it off or buy all you need from the TP and craft it all in a day. It’s the same way ascended stuff is now, it takes time to acquire the pieces.
Well I can’t see the Tier1->Tier5 materials being any use getting from 400->500 anyway.
From the blog…
“Once you reach 500, a new tier of crafting materials will be available to you; this new tier of materials will be made by combining lower tier materials. "
I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that current MF gear users will just apply it to their account wide bonus and only a one time deal. Current achievement bonuses are really small. So i’d think that would be the direction they’d go with current gear.
I’ve already surpassed the 1k skill point mark. I have 2 toons sitting on close to 200 each and another in around 50. I’ve spent a lot of those SPs.. It does take a good month to get 200 if you really just go all out for them. I’m sure it would suck if that’s all you need however. Pretty good advice i’d say, holding out on spending those points. Regardless, I’m still making the Anomaly for my mesmer
Complaining about quartz conversions being limited to once a day is like complaining about Precursors being rare.
“Entitled” people are entitled to their opinions, I know I know.
One has little to do with the other. I can toss thousands of rare or exotics in the forge and get as many precursors as possible…
This not to mention everything after the crystal is account bound, so it wouldn’t even impact the market.
I wish what you said made some sense, but in this case it really is pretty far off.
If the goal was to make this stat more rare, sure, but it’s open to everyone without much expense beyond a time commitment.
Ok ok, I’ll amend my post with the following:
Complaining about quartz conversions being limited to once a day is like complaining about Daily achievements being limited to once a day.
I actually think the limit on achievement chests to once a day might have been a technical limitation, possibly combined with “what are we going to put in the 5k chest” questions. While i personally am not complaining to either, i’m still curious about the logic behind it.

But the crystal itself is not. Thus driving up it’s price
I think of this as a test on rarity.
I think i have about 4 stacks of crystals… How is that rare? Do you mean after the area is gone?
I think the economy post is more spot on. I don’t think it is anything about being lazy.
I’m not extolling anything about lazy design, but how is it economic? I can gather tons of crystals to sell in a day (till the area is gone). The rest however (from what i understand) is account bound. Since you can’t sell account bound stuff, how exactly would that effect the economy?

Without being able to buy as many minis as before, just that area of achievement could possibly take years. Faction points and the like actually take less time, but you’re not going to get it in a month. I’d guess it would take a year or more.
I’d like to know why they chose this as well. I’m not going to be logging in just to charge one crystal, that’s for sure.
I’ve always felt that artificially long time gated content is bad, sure things should take time to achieve, but a month of charging one crystal at a time is silly. Why not charge one at each communing (place of power) node a day? Once the Sanctum is gone, we will all be limited in how many crystals we can get in a day anyway.
Remove map completion from WvWvW.
I entered WvWvW a little while ago with some guildee’s and actually had a bit of fun. Since then I have returned to try map completion. The frustration I have endured trying to do this has ensured that i will never return to WvW once map completion is done.
I think instead of trying to get PVE’ers into WvW by way of world completion, it actually causes more of this ^. Now with badges dropping from the achievement chests, this is really the only reason to venture in there, which is completely frustrating for many PvE only people.
As far as zerg busting, maybe they should have an opposite of outnumbered. When you are in a zerg of say 20 or more, your damage output gets reduced. There really needs to be something more in WvW to decrease the benefit of a mass of players.
Or ignore the DR that kicks in after 30 minutes, killing one guy over and over isn’t going to yield anything. More than likely with the roaming mobs you’d be dead after 30 minutes anyway without a bot macro.
We can draw squiggly lines all day about this stuff, but it’s really a QoL issue not an exploiting one.
Adding auto-loot has changed that a bit. Got 5 bodies/bags to loot, either press the loot button once with auto-loot or press it 5 times without it… These things are quality of life things, not advantageous ones. It be nice if they added to the right click menu an open all. Also, there are plenty of games where auto-loot means if somethings drops for you i goes straight into your inventory.
I use a double click macro to open bags. There’s no way i’m opening 2k bags double clicking 4k times, same thing with tossing crap into the forge (still one click for one action). There’s no advantage to it beyond not exacerbating carpal tunnel syndrome and i would make it repeating, however it seems borderline against the rules… There are also plenty of handi-cap needs for things like this and most of (if not all) is built into the system software.
As far as auto-looting goes, i see no benefit to any player that has a looping macro that hits an auto-loot button. There’s a ton of other things that make sense to be against the rules for macros, but looting or opening stuff, yeah that shouldn’t even be thought about, even in the most vague way.
Many of the crystals can be ported to with a mesmer, i ended up doing about 15-20 of them with guildies last night. Pretty sure you have 3.5 weeks to finish it.
WvW reminds me of medieval battles where you just toss bodies at a fight and hope for the best. There is very little strategy when you are simply out numbered by troop zerg. What little possible strategies that do exist are really only there for the select few. I don’t mind doing it for a change of pace, but I typical shy away from the madness and run small groups.
Once you unlock a recipe, i agree, it should be unlocked on your account. There are plenty of money sinks in the game…
I think they are saying they unlocked it already on the wrong toon.
I wonder how long it would actually take a UI designer to make the roster something useful.
It is able to be completed without seeing the missing pattern?
It is possible if you check the wiki and try all possible patterns there, or if you randomly try patterns, but that can take ages.
It’ll be nice if putting a tear in a correct stone would make the stone glow.
This is the best fix for this bug really. It’s been bugged since release. Seems like a pretty simple fix and could also go along with the fact that it is a puzzle….
When the experienced fun runs out do to repetition, you start chasing goals. When those goals are limited to cosmetic items, which are really tied to drops (and/or earnings). Reward becomes a central focus. I think they’ve improved, but they really do have a ways to go.
This is from a year ago, still seems about right…

Radar range is 63 meters across. You could easily use a personal waypoint to gauge speed to cross the radar.
Nice find! May I add for increased accuracy that 2500 inches are 63.5 meters.
I’m now totally intrigued at gauging speed and distances… Best thing to do would be capture traveling between two points and get it accurately through a photo finish. Might give it a go tonight.

Northern Shiverpeaks does it at 5pm server time every night. Just follow the commander tag. They usually start with grenth from Meddlers Waypoint in cursed shore.
I very satisfied with the 3 day window. I also know if i miss it, that’s what happens. There might be a good chance you can still get the headpiece skin at the end of the event too, we simply don’t know. Speaking of GW of old, it really be nice to have a wardrobe or a “skin NPC” that kept this stuff for you. Just saying.
I actually think they are starting to go in the right direction. The RNG boxes are even much better now, and i was a big proponent against them. I did get the jorbreaker version of the wings as a drop today, so that at least tells me they are trying. Dungeons are still a mess, but i know that’s going to take time. WvW is definitely more rewarding. I hope they focus on crafting soon however, since it’s really pretty blah.
And, no, our game accounts aren’t the same as GM accounts; we don’t get special items or anything like that.

That’s not on the live servers.
Yeah, it’s 25% out of 4 cores (8 with Hyper Threading). Memory being spiked isn’t my concern either. I have 8GB RAM (lowest for Retina), and that’s plenty for most things – it’s not like I play this a lot here on this laptop for it to be caching that much data into memory anyway.
But yeah, 100% CPU usage (on any core) for a launcher screen is WAY too much.
And yeah, I realize this whole thing is beta…but still a bug nonetheless – so I don’t expect too much attention given to it; but good to still report it.
This happens on the PC as well and it has since beta 1. There was a discussion somewhere about it rendering kicking in on the launcher.
How about just letting us buy the skins for gems? What good would having yet another currency do but maybe add more confusion? Just get rid of them or let us buy em outright.
The problem is:
If they put the skins for Normal Gems, people will just convert gold and buy them, instead of gambling on RNG.
This would make ArenaNet lose way to much money.
If you put them for Red Gems people would be forced to buy them for Cash.
They would still be able to buy the skins from Gold or Normal Gems, but would be 2x more expensive.Like 4000 normal gems, 2000 Red gems.
This makes ArenaNet more profitable, while making us more happy.
You can still always play on RNG.
It doesn’t make them more profitable because Arenanet doesn’t care about whether you buy your gems with money or gold, they just want gems sold.
Arenanet does not supply gems for the exchange, each and every gem sold trough there means that someone purchased the gems with real money and exchanged it for gold on the exchange. Arenanet doesn’t care whether the gems you bought the gems you’re using with gold or real money, either way someone at one point paid real money for them. There are no gems in circulation in the game that weren’t paid with real money in the first place.
Which is why the price fluctuates, because it depends on how many gems are being offered for sale at any given time Vs. how many are being bought.
This is pretty much the deal. There was a supply of gems and gold in the exchange at launch, but what percentage of that is left in there is probably fairly low.
If people in game can afford to buy gems with gold, someone will undoubtedly buy gems with cash and convert back. It’s money for them either way. Regardless we don’t know the numbers, but i can say that the RNG boxes aren’t selling even close to as well as they did through the first round via gold to gem conversion data. If the sales continue to be poor, i think we will probably see outright purchasing of skins or some other way to distribute these “rare” skins. Coffers do seems to be dropping weapon tickets though, which is a step in the right direction, now that they are tradable.
How about just letting us buy the skins for gems? What good would having yet another currency do but maybe add more confusion? Just get rid of them or let us buy em outright.
IRL If you make even minimum wage is more cost effective to convert gems to gold from real money. There really isn’t any other option than that or CoF/CoE and trading post camping.
I.E You make 7.50 an hour. Let’s say you have 2 hours of disposable income from each day of work. That’s $15 before tax, or 800 gems. Convert to gold, and you make about 6 gold an hour from “farming”.
And that’s why this game’s farming/material system is really, really, REALLY broken.
This… Not much else you can say.
