Not everyone is equally skilled, and the fights should be balanced, and Liadri is nowhere near balanced.

i just saw a video with a lvl 2 warrior beat her.

I’m out of this thread, good luck with your future attempts to liadri.

That’s right. Run away from the debate. As i said, not everyone is equally skilled, but if Anet wants to cater to people who can solo Lupi and kill Liadri as level 2, then they will just see more people leave. You seem to want only a select few enjoy the game, and i’m sure Anet doesn’t think like you do. People like you don’t want balance. As i’ve already explained, it’s the mechanics of the fight that are imbalanced.

Yes, there will be those who are better, but if Anet wants to cater to the minority, they will just leave the majority frustrated, and they will just quit the game.

I started out with 240+ tickets and i’m down to 89 now. I’ve tried different classes and builds, but those don’t really matter, because i just saw a video with a lvl 2 warrior beat her.

It’s the mechanics of the fight that are terribly imbalanced. There is too much awareness that is needed. Dodging, Running, Vigor management, Condition curing, Removing boons from Liadri, avoiding Visions, avoiding AOE, avoiding random Orbs.

Currently, there is more frustration than enjoyment on this fight. And that’s always a bad thing in a video game. It’s bad design.

They need to get rid of either the orbs, or visions, in phase 2, and it would be so much more balanced, and less awareness to worry about.

Leveling an alt is so much more tedious now

No its not. I have a new character thats level 33 now. Only played it for about 3 evenings and used no tomes or boosters. If leveling were any easier it would be pathetic.

He’s not talking about leveling. He’s talking about acquiring traits. It’s amazing how many people don’t understand this.

The downed mechanic is just dumb. I’ve never liked it at all. It was implemented to give a player a “second chance”, but it really just hinders them. In reality, it discourages people, because it makes them feel like they did something wrong, and most fights in gw2 make you go down in 1-shot anyway. It should be removed entirely.

Hence people are starting to resort to other methods such as buy gems to convert to gold.

Arwen, do we know how many people are actually doing that? Is there a site where we can see the gem>gold conversion happening in real time? I’m curious about it. Personally I have a hard time putting money into a game that is letting its customer base down.

It shows the current rate, but not how many people.

Hey, lets give it another shot, they have come closer and closer to perfecting their craft.

i see a bright future and no i am not a fanboy, never been. Either way, i think this game will become better than most of us expect it to become.

I see the opposite. The future looks bleak, especially with newer games coming out, and summer vacation for both kids and adults. The game since launch has strayed far from it’s original manifesto.

We can’t play our way anymore, especially with the new trait system, which severely limits new characters, and forces them to buy traits, or do tasks they don’t want to do.

I’m not even going to get into the “Beserker end-game” discussion either, which isn’t the fault of the playerbase, but Anet’s inaction on fixing it. So much for diversity of roles.

The SPvP revamp was made worse and more confusing. Now players start with their equipped weapons, or with ones in their inventory, with no guidance telling them they can also use vendor weapons (the same as original system but worse). Also, PvE loot in SPvP, to incentivize pve players, is always bad.

Then there’s the imbalance of Gem-Store items vs. In-game items. Just about all new content is pushed, and promoted, through the Gem-Store. The only new gear, or weapons, that have been released, is through Living Story achievements, and they aren’t even full armor sets. (i’m talking about acquiring them in-game, not gem-store-only items) I know they need to make money through the Gem-Store, but they need to do it less aggressive and be more subtle, otherwise the perception of greed, is what people see. Then there’s the RNG-lottery system, enough said.

I hate to say it, but the Living Story ruined GW2. The game had so much potential to expand on new professions, new zones, new races, new skills, etc. Instead, the resources were spent on experimentation.

My post sounds negative, but that’s because it gets frustrating seeing a great game being ruined as time goes on. There’s still hope with Season 2 though, which looks very promising. I just couldn’t agree more with the OP, that’s all.

Still waiting for end game content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There’s plenty of “Endgame” content:
1. Working for legendaries.
2. Making a name for yourself on your server through WvW and PvP (And now the game in general, with Megaservers)
3. Becoming a leader of PvE events or in WvW.
4. Keeping up with Living Story.
5. Making and running a guild.

The question was : where is High level end game rewarding content

There is, but it’s not about progression. The items are just skins from achievements.

From the first paragraph of The Story Journal subheading:
Characters under level 80 will be able to see the available episodes, but will not be able to play them until they reach level 80.

Does this little tidbit bother anyone?

On the positive side, I’m cautiously in favor of the concept of the Story Journal. (Cautiously, because we’ve seen how good concepts can go horribly wrong.) I like the idea of being able to access Story content even if I wasn’t able to play at the time it was new. I don’t even mind the 200 gems much. The company should be able to see a modest profit for their work, IMO. Good content will be unlocked by more people and Anet will be able to see what percentage of players are willing to pay for it.

On the negative side, I haven’t seen one person in this thread mention this giant push to be L80. This game wasn’t supposed to be all about the endgame! What happened to the journey? Why should I bother with another alt, ever? Everything they’re building is for 80s. The new trait system is kitten-burgers for alts and noobs. Now alts and noobs can’t experience the Story? This is NOT a happy thing.

That’s because the story wouldn’t make sense if it’s not progressed though in a linear path. Since the Personal Story ends at 80, with the defeat of Zhaitan, the Living Story starts after that. It’s one compromise that needed to happen, otherwise the story would feel more disconnected than it already is.

Paying for past content?

How does a new player get $60 worth of gold? That’s what I thought. Don’t be facetious.

Where do you even get the numbers from?

You are assuming that:
1: People would buy every single episode.
2: People would buy every single episode on their own.
3: ArenaNet won’t release a package at the end of a season at a reduced price.

The numbers are freely available(calculate them based upon S1 # of chapters and 200 gem cost per chapter).

If you’re a new player, then yes, you’re going to purchase the full season. The only people purchasing individual episodes will be people who missed a couple or people who want the reward from them. ANet will likely release a packaged season, but don’t expect it to be much cheaper(see: their “sales” on gem store items).

So as a new player you’ll have a full expansion pack you could buy just starting the game, or you could play the original game first and use the gold saved to get it free. Either way, there will be an entire season of content available to you at a price.

Also this content will likely be tailored to you or a small group experience. Who pays for that? Who pays for the devs that sit down and rescale all this content so it works for you? Paying for it is perfectly acceptable and cold hard cash is only one of 3 options here.

People that play actively don’t “pay” for it, so I don’t see what you’re getting at. The only people losing here are new players and people who don’t log in every 2 weeks.

shrug

What are they loosing exactly? as is right now they’d simply loose the chance of experiancing the content and there would be nothing they can do about it.

With this they have an option to buy it at least.

They’re not really loosing, they’re actually gaining an option to do something about it!

I hate to correct people’s spelling, but you’ve spelled “losing” wrong multiple times. It’s bothersome. lol.

I like what i’ve read so far, but i’ll have to try it when it goes live to see if it’s good enough.

Charging gems for story content is a terrible idea though. That’s akin to a monthly subscription, but at least in a subscription mmo, you get all the content, instead of having it in piecemeal chunks. Just terrible.

You do realise that the story content is free……only if you missed out on an episode now you have the option to buy it.

Really, you only have to log in once every 2 weeks to get all the stories unlocked for free.

GW2 has no sub,has no expansion you must buy, and you don’t have to buy the LS Episodes either (even if u miss out on some of them its not a must to complete them only if you want to)…so what is ooooh soooooo terrible?

I’m thinking long-term here.

Hypothetical: In 6 months, or a year, someone buys gw2. They finish their personal story, which comes free with the game. Then Season 2 ends. Season 3 starts, but the new player missed out on Season 2.

Does this mean they have pay for each update to Season 2 to catch up to Season 3? Season 1 had around 20 story updates added to it.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/
Flame & Frost, Secret of Southsun, Sky Pirates of Tyria, Bazaar of the Four Winds, Blood & Madness, etc.

That’s 20 × 200, which equals 4000 gems.

That’s very unreasonable for a new player just starting out.
I’m just trying to get clarification here, because we don’t know all the details yet.

Change to trait system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

Welcome to the club. A lot of 80s say it’s fine, until they make an alt themselves.

The old trait system at least let us test out the traits, but now we can’t even do that, since we’re locked out of them. The only way is to go into the Heart of the Mists area.

The new system is too time consuming, and dependent on random events. It also forces players into other zones and pvp.

It’s just bad design, where traits are locked behind personal story completions. A level 50 story mission for a first-tier trait is just ridiculous on so many levels.

A question about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nexxe.7081

I’m not disregarding what you say about Guildwars 2 being a more relaxing experience for an mmo overall but there comes a point when people just want more of a challenge something to work towards like a wall to get over not only alone but with friends and guild mates. The whole game is currently built around casual players but there becomes a point where people want/need more progression. Before anyone says go play <mmo> here if you want a challenge I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t love this game for what it is.

I agree. There should be more challenging open-world content, but for smaller groups, since the bigger groups already have Wurm and Tequatl.

Champ trains are so ridiculous, and they need to be stopped, whether it’s in Queensdale, or in Frostgorge, or anywhere. It’s just a big zerg, running from champ to champ, with no challenge or strategy, at all.

Anet needs to kill them once and for all, and stop encouraging it.

The easiest solution is to just put them on random timers. They could’ve also made them available as guild missions.

Once champ trains are gone, then players will start doing other content again, such as temples, dungeons, etc.

As it is currently, endgame for gw2, is seeing 50+ people running in circles from champ to champ, because it’s currently the fastest way to get loot. This doesn’t happen in other MMOs, and it just feels like amateur game-design.

Quick solution: Random timers & Zone-wide announcement that a champ spawned.

So, if players don’t play the way you like they’re wrong and must be corrected.
Nice.

It’s not about what i like. It’s about bad game design. Is it really intended for the world of Tyria, to see hundreds of people running around in circles, killing the same mobs over and over, in a short amount of time, multiple times a day?

Not only is it ridiculous from a lore and immersion viewpoint, but it’s also ridiculous from a gameplay viewpoint. Instead of having people use Swiftness boons, they might as well just line up the Champs against a wall, and have them spawn continuously. It’s really the same thing. The only difference is the travelling part. At least in EotM though, there are other players that kill you. Not so much in champ trains.

This is exactly why I don’t play Tequatl and Wurm. Sure those fights are interesting and all, but I don’t want to carry leechers, afkers and people who don’t want to listen or cooperate.
There should be an option to instance the whole map for your guild/party.

You mean instanced raids? They were created during the era of everquest mmos, because they worked, and they solved the problems of open-world raids/events, and that design avoided the leechers, griefers, dis-organized groups, etc. GW2 went back to the open-world design model though, but Anet never properly tackled all the negative issues that came with it.

The best way to tell a story is through these 2 contents.

Thus, the ratio of Gems to Gold and Gold to Gems is not indicative of player population.

I disagree. It’s very indicative of the population. Just look at that graph above. Prices were very low, because there were literally millions of players during, and after, launch. Then it continually declined, hence the megaservers (basically a merge).

If there was more people playing, they would definitely be buying gems and selling them for gold, but that’s not what’s happening.

Anyway, i don’t want to steer off-topic into a population argument. The fact is, that not enough players are buying gems, and/or, selling them for gold. This is because of a variety of reasons. The two biggest factors being, that the population dropped off, and the other, is that gold isn’t really needed for anything in game, except for Legendary items. Just look on the Trading Post, and you’ll see every item under the Top Valued Items section, is a Legendary.

Anet needs to make more valuable items worth gold, other than a Legendary item. This would give more incentive for people to convert gems to gold, and bring the ratio down to a more reasonable conversion.

Instead, they just pump out content exclusive to the Gem Store only, which is really limiting their customers, and driving the rest away. People would rather earn their items in-game, instead of with their wallet. I could understand if both Gem Store items, and items earned in-game, were balancing each other out, but that’s not what’s happening.

The items that are earned in-game, are single-piece back slots, or gauntlets, or minis, or tonics, or boosts, or recipes, etc. These things aren’t going to entice players to stick around for the long term. There needs to be full armor sets, like the dungeon sets, added to the game. Sets that don’t require gems. This is where GW2 falls short. A wasted opportunity.

“the other, is that gold isn’t really needed for anything in game, except for Legendary items.”
You must be playing another game. In GW2 everything is based on gold. Most special skins you can’t really work towards to directly (mainly because it are all very rare world drops) but are best obtainable with gold. Same for many mats. It’s of course not strange as that’s the way they like to indeed to sell more gems for gold.

Yes, but look at the ratio of those items when compared to Legendary items.
Top Legendary items: ~2000-3000g
Crafting Materials: ~100g or less
World Drops: Average ~10-30g

Crafting Materials are variable of course, due to Ascended items, but it still doesn’t negate the imbalance.

Then why would people exchange the Gems they bought for Gold when the items they seek are in the Gem Store?

That’s my whole point. People are converting gold to gems, because only the valuable items are in the gem store, and cannot be obtained any other way, unless with real money.

Not enough people are buying gems to convert to gold, because gold isn’t as valuable as gems, and that’s why the conversion rate is so high. That’s why Anet keeps releasing updates begging players to buy gems and trade it in for gold.

TL;DR: Gold is pretty much useless. Gems are far more valuable. Imbalance ensues.

-No monthly fee
-No way to 100% purchase items that increase stats and makes you win (P2W).
-Not a must to use gem system to have top items or exclusive items. (can change gold for gems)

Boys this is a business, and IMO a noble one . . .

Why you get mad if the company tries to profit? . . . they have REAL alternatives to never use your credit card.

Nobody’s really getting mad. People are just upset that most released content is on the Gem Store only. Just look at today’s update. There are 5+ items for the Gem Store, but nothing available to be acquired in game, which could be earned. Everything is centered on the Gem Store in this update.

Those alternatives aren’t viable either. They aren’t factoring in the use of people’s time, which is more valuable than money. The amount of time it will take to convert gold to gems would be weeks to months for the average person, and i’m only talking about for around 1000 gems. So it’s either people’s time or their money, and most people have chosen to spend their time on other games or real life things. How do i know this? Because the gold-to-gem conversion keeps going up, which means less people are buying gems, and selling them for gold, because there’s less people playing overall.

If it was truly viable, they would allow the sale of certain items from the Gem Store to be sold on the Trading Post. That would actually incentivize more people to buy Gem Store items, and they can choose which items to sell for gold.

“The point of this post is to ask Anet to put in the staples of a successful MMO with longevity. GW2 should be competitive with other MMOs as well as newer ones coming out.”

The whole game would have to be redesigned for that to happen. The appeal of GW2, was to be different from other MMOs. It was the same philosophy GW1 had too.

Some ideas were good, but some were bad. There was a reason more traditional MMOs had some mechanics in place (such as; trinity, travel, instanced raids, etc.), because they worked and solved the problems of open-world encounters.

As for point 7. This will never happen. We will get more cute and fluffy gem-store things, such as, quaggan backpacks, tonics, and sunglasses. GW2 will never be a serious game. There are no factions or rivalries for players to participate in, against each other. The only thing is WvW, but it’s just server-related and not tied to anything from GW1 lore (i think). Everyone is supposed to be working together and hold hands in GW2.

There’s less players though, which means less people converting gems to gold. This is why the conversion rate is so high. Instead of fixing the ratio to be in balance with the population, Anet is being complacent with this, since it forces players to buy gems. The days of converting gold to gems is long gone now, unless you’re willing to spend hundreds of gold for an average of 1000 gems.

Anet should use a f2p/b2p subscription model similar to swtor. They can make revenue with gem store items, but they won’t have to rely on strictly the gem store due to a strong dedicated base of players paying $15 a month. Subscribers should get discounts at the gem store and other perks. With Anet securing a consistent flow of income they should be able to afford the additions and modifications to GW2 that we have been asking for.

I specifically left SWTOR because their changed subscription system made the F2P people second class citizens who couldn’t play the game. I would still be playing it had they correctly implemented the F2P model like GW2 did.

Not really. At least in Swtor, as a f2p player, you could buy just about anything on their cash shop, but only if other players list them on the auction house. The only limitation is the gold cap, which is 350k i think.

It’s also so much easier to make “gold” in swtor. It’s not this way in GW2, because of all the restrictions on diminishing returns.

"buy gold with gems" appearing too so much?

The Gem Exchange system was balanced during the early launch days and months, but over a year later, the ratio has become extremely imbalanced. There are less players now, so now the gap keeps increasing. A-net never did resolve this, and i don’t think they ever will. It’s even harder to make gold, especially with diminishing returns.

Currently, it’s 50g for 507 gems. That’s just insanely imbalanced.

Not just me, but the majority of people too. We actually wanted to enjoy GW2, but the designers listened to the minority, and made the game less enjoyable for everyone else. The game went from overflows to merged servers, and your logic is to keep supporting bad decisions by giving them more money! Brilliant.

The majority based on what survey?
Not even the majority of the forums agree with you, and the forums is very far from even close to a majority of the actual player base.

Just because people disagree with you doesn’t make them a minority.

You don’t need a survey. Merging populations with Megaservers is all you need to know that the population dropped off drastically. If it was stable, no mergers would be needed. If it was growing, they would add new servers.

The majority left, because they didn’t like GW2 and how it was being developed over the last year.

Wrong! Throwing money at something that’s not enjoyable isn’t improving it. It just supports more bad decision making by Anet. Only a handful of people left will support them, while the rest leave the game. How is that helping GW2? It’s not.

Not enjoyable for you.
And I am rather sure that you don’t actually spend any money on it, so I don’t really see why you are so upset when people that actually DOES enjoy the game and the content spend money on it, in order to improve it.

The game-play is improved when more resources are spent on improving it. Those resources are dependent on money.

lordkrall is the biggest fanboy ever. You defend Anet for everything! Come on man, be realistic. Everything they do isn’t perfect. Stop defending them from every criticism. Fanboys make games worse, because then the developers don’t think anything is wrong and they won’t improve the game.

Game Updates: Traits

I didn’t realize how awful this new one is until i hit level 30 last night.

I thought all the old traits would be unlocked, and that the new Adept ones, were the only ones that needed to be unlocked.

I was severely mistaken. ALL the traits are locked. I never felt so discouraged to level in any MMO until now.

There’s 30 traits in the first tier.
There’s 20 traits in the second tier.
There’s 15 traits in the third tier.

I can no longer try each trait, while leveling, unless i unlock 30 traits, just in the first tier. It’s bad enough we have to wait until level 30, but some of these traits are locked behind a level 50 personal story quest. That’s insane!

My major problem with this system?
It forces me to stop my personal leveling experience

I’m not able to level how i want to.
If i want all the traits, i’m forced to do pvp, personal story, dungeons, map completions, etc.

The only alternative is to waste 38+ gold and hundreds of skill points.
This is just unacceptable. I can only imagine the new player hit with these restrictions at level 30.

If you’re level 80 or had your traits unlocked already, please make an alt to 30 and see for yourself, and look at this new system as a new player without gold and skill points.

I’ll just level to 35 for the cultural armor, and stop leveling anymore alts, until the old system is brought back, or they fundamentally change the way we acquire traits.

It would’ve been fine for the new Adept traits, but not all of them. That’s where this new system went wrong.

This new system is terrible!

It’s going to turn off a lot of new players. I’m not even new and it discourages me from leveling an alt.

Certain traits should’ve been locked, but not all of them! Having to gather all of them is too overwhelming.

Yes, we can buy them, but as someone said earlier, it totals up to 40+ gold and skill points. This is so ridiculous.

Will PVP armor be brought back to the game?

I hope so too. I was disappointed that they were removed. The Tribal set is probably the rarest set in game right now, since no pieces are available anymore. It was only obtainable in pvp.

This is the only way to avoid them from whispers.
We need an option to let friends and guild members whisper please.

Would be better to have a few options from
1 – Complete hide – hide from everyone and everything
2 – everyone but friends list and guild
3 – everyone but guild.

This would basically eliminate random gold spam. Anet needs to do this!

I’d rather see different styles. We always get steampunk or victorian. The victorian style is really cheesy too. It’s downright embarassing. In fact, there needs to be more variety across all gear.

Living World Season 2 starts July 1st

It is funny how all those other games somehow manage to keep people playing for 6 months without adding anything, but as soon as GW2 have a gap of a month or two the game is doomed.

Those other mmos have years of content though. GW2 doesn’t, since living story was temporary content for over a year. The only things that were truly added as new, permanent content, was Southsun, Fractals, and EotM.

About the announcement. Why so vague?

in Living World

It was just an announcement and that’s all. There’s nothing announced to get excited about. Who thought this was a good idea? The title says, “Get Ready”. What for? This is the worst announcement in GW2’s history, possibly in MMO history.

edit: ok, the hint is the portal, but it still doesn’t make up for the terrible PR strategy to get people excited and interested.

The best thing to do, is to give us an option, to block whispers, and only friends and guilds are allowed to whisper.

Living Story killed this game. They wasted all those resources on temporary content and gem store items, when they could’ve used it for permanent updates and full armor sets, which could’ve been obtainable in game. Instead we got one-piece glove, back, and helm skins. Such a waste.
