It’s a sad state of affairs when we’re using WoW as a graphics yardstick.

I prefer they spend the resources on something more worth while like a dungeon or some new content… instead of fixing something that 99.9% of people will never notice.

You mean like living story, and more scarlet? Or perhaps, you meant more resources towards quaggan backpacks and other useless vanity items. Go visit the various threads, such as, dungeons, suggestions, etc., and you’ll see things that haven’t been fixed for well over a year.

Character models should be the #1 focus for any MMO. It’s the main controller to the virtual world. It needs to be flawless, and this is why WoW is generally considered to have the best in the industry. I’m not talking about graphically either, but actual physics, movement, rotations, camera-views, jumping, server-client response time, etc. It blows GW2 away in those respects.

You need to improve teamwork in this game.

in trinity stuff, the loss of a crucial party member, the tank or healer could quickly lead to the whole party wiping, where as the Gw2 system allows the group to still perform even after losing a few members and possible recovering from those mishaps.

It’s even worse in GW2. If the party leader leaves, the whole group is disbanded. If 2 people vote him out, the whole group is disbanded. Trinity gameplay is easily solved by giving every class a tank/heal spec. Some MMOs already do this. LFG tools remedy this problem also.

These issues of waiting in the past have already been resolved by many different methods, even before GW2. This excuse no longer holds.

My highlights for 2014:

  • Everquest Next (+Landmark)
  • Accountbound WXP in GW2 (there isn’t much else I look forward to, cause there simply is nothing known yet what is coming next year, except the end of scarlet)
  • Archeage (Hopefully?)
  • Black Desert
  • Phantasy Star Online

Not Wildstar/ESO cause they’re sub-based.

Whats wrong with sub based??? At this point I want sub based thanks to Guildwars 2 and Starwars the Old Republic… Both games started out as F2P model’s but ended up becoming over zealous and greedy. I mean sure World of Warcraft has a cash shop but its extremely small and humble compared to GW2’s and SWTOR’s cash shops.

Wrong. Swtor was sub-based, then it went to f2p because it needed to survive.

Well, both Wildstar and GW2 are under NCSOFT.
If Wildstar happens to get 2/3 of GW2 playerbase I doubt NCSFOT would suffer. any major losses.

Not only that, but GW2 would suffer. I’m pretty sure it already has. NCSoft spends revenue made from GW2’s gem store, on Aion and other games. If GW2 does poorly, they will invest more into their other games, like Wildstar.

I was really starting to get into GW2 again, until i started doing dungeons. It was such a bad experience that i don’t even want to continue anymore. I was even going to buy gems too, but i’ll just wait until another MMO comes out. The Repopulation is looking really nice, and there’s a new video that was just put up. EQ Landmark sounds really interesting too. Unless GW2 fixes their dungeons, then there’s really no point for me to keep playing. WvW & SPvP is alright, but i like doing dungeons too.

Dungeon Frustrations

I don’t do dungeons often (not generally my thing,) but the times that I had, I didn’t have any issues with people. Just steer clear of “experienced only/speed clear” runs, and, if you’re worried about getting kicked, there’s the old standby of starting the group yourself. Hopefully your future experiences will be better.

Except it doesn’t matter if he/she starts the group. It only takes 2 people to kick. What kind of idiocy is that? Who at A-net thought that a minority should have the leverage over the whole group? It boggles the mind. Not only that, but the person who starts the cutscene of the dungeon is the leader, and so if he/she is kicked, or leaves, the rest of the group gets kicked.

It’s funny, because I’ve never really associated the Trinity as ‘teamwork’. I mean, there’s no way to support your team if, say, the Tank or Healer goes down (excluding, say, an in battle res).

As for the teamwork in this game, I personally think it’s more down to encounter design, and less to do with the removal of strict roles.

As for vertical progression rewards, why can’t the reward for good temwork be cosmetic? I mean, if content is able to be done by zerging and with good teamwork, then that’s the fault of the content. Humans are programmed to take the path of least resistance, after all.

Back on point, if they created content that couldn’t be completed without near flawless teamwork(thus acting as the gate), why can’t it be a cosmetic reward?

Actually, there’s more coordinated cooperation in classic trinity gameplay. The tank needs mitigation buffs (shields, resists, etc.), the healers heal & cleanse, dps can CC, etc. There are various other ways everyone supports each other.

This is also In GW2, but it isn’t as effective. There are many reasons why, but i’ll list two. First, everyone gets into downed-state way too fast. Secondly, CC and other Conditions/Boons do not last long (usually 5 seconds or less).

GW2 doesn’t mesh properly as an action-rpg & classic-rpg.

I didn’t get the achievement. I tried to do the meta to unlock CoF, but the respawn rate and difficulty is too hard to do solo, and i ask for help in /map chat, but nobody shows up. The fact that i have to use Guesting to even enter a dungeon is ridiculous. Add to the fact, that i might not even be party leader, and i’ll lose out on loot and the achievement again. It’s not worth the frustration. Screw it. I’ll just play another MMO where the design is more professional and not amateur. If it’s not being fixed after over a year, there’s no point waiting for another year. What a shame for new players, or returning players. Thanks for everyone trying to keep things positive and encouraging.

Skipping enemies

There was one upside to tanking in other MMOs. The group would follow the tank, no matter what, because he/she is usually sets the pace of the dungeon. I never skipped bosses as a tank, and so i would always set the pace of the dungeon run, but i can’t do this in GW2.

There are many threads like this in this forums but I think Anet hasn’t addressed this matter other than saying it’s difficult to fix because of the way they designed it.

Don’t get too discouraged though. Not all parties are opened by clueless people/jerks, sometimes you’re just unlucky when it does happen. To minimize the risk, run with people you trust (friends/guild), or if pugging, open the instance yourself.

Thanks for encouragement, but it doesn’t look like this will be fixed. I read another thread, and the content designer addressed this over a year ago.

I would’ve started the dungeon myself, but it was contested (another stupid idea). I didn’t know about the Guesting exploit either, to get around it, until i read another thread.

Overall, this left a really bad experience with me.

nexxe.7081

I started a group for CoF Story Mode, and it was my first time in there. We finally finished, and during the middle of the cut scene, i get kicked out.

It so happens, that the person who enters the dungeon first, or starts the cutscene at the beginning, is the group leader.

So he leaves, and everyone gets kicked out because of it. That is so frustrating and beyond stupid. It’s poor game design. I never experienced this any other MMO.

I don’t even know if i got to loot the chest after the final boss, and i didn’t even get to finish the cutscene.

I feel as if my time was wasted, and i feel very discouraged to even do them again, especially if this is the normal thing with GW2 dungeons.

do you mean to get the meta achievement? for completing 20/20 achievements?

just make sure you keep doing the daily Wintersday achieves. they are under the normal daily but with a special icon indicating that it is tied to Wintersday.

even if you did the JP and all other specific “Wintersday” achievements, you still wouldn’t get the meta without doing Winterdays dailies.
: )) so don’t worry!

I was about to write something like this. It was kind of confusing at first, since i had to sift through all the dailies and find the wintersday one. They should’ve just included it under the Wintersday section. I wonder how many people will never finish the meta because of this.

Also, i don’t believe the Infinite ones count, because i finished one and it didn’t count towards it. It must be through dailies.

nexxe.7081

In my opinion, GW2’s storytelling could’ve been so much better if they had factions, like most traditional MMOs.

Instead, everyone is on the same team.
An open-world, factional conflict, would’ve made us feel more unique, especially if races were locked to certain factions. The stories could’ve been more amazing. There’s WvW and SPvP, of course, but the storytelling in those aspects is pretty much non-existent.

There are many rival factions in GW Lore, but they were never utilized in a way to create tension and drama. The Priory, Vigil, and Order of Whispers. There’s also the White Mantle, Shining Blade, and others from GW1.

Instead, we get the cliche dragon story. Everyone working together, etc… Anyway, it’s too late now, and GW2 will never change to an open-world, factional system.

nexxe.7081

Here’s the problem with the Living Story, summed up.

It’s running parallel with the Personal Story, Dynamic Events, NPC dialogue, and everything else that launched since release.

Everything before the Living Story became irrelevant. They all felt abandoned, until recently. Not only that, but temporary content and fluff items made everything worse.

Things like Super Adventure Box was alright for April’s Fools Day, but then it made a return out of nowhere. It was ridiculous and it does not belong in a Guild Wars universe. Then we have silly things like Quaggan backpacks, which makes GW2 feel like a Rated G cartoon.

I could go on, but there’s no point. Others before me, for over a year, have brought up excellent reasons why Living Story has been terrible for GW2.

- Do you feel as part of the world?
In which way?

- Do you feel the world is evolving around you?
Not at first, but these last couple releases have been more permanent.

- Do you feel that making content temporary is important to achieve the principals of Living World?
It depends on the content really. Dungeons, meta-events, etc.. should be permanent. Others not so much.

The personal story was alright, up to the point of Traehearne. After that, it fell off hard. He’s the weakest hero i’ve ever encountered. I got the vibe of, “let us bring peace and work together, and we can all sing and dance”, blah blah blah. Ugh. Just terrible.

And Logan is second to worst. He’s always whining and crying about everything, and mentions Jennah in every scene.

A-net should just get rid of the Personal Story in an expansion or something.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

in CDI

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

As for progression..
That depends on the philosophical aspect of what GW2 wants to be.

Does it want players to strive for an infinite end , or perhaps, to be content with what they can accomplish (whether it be solo, grouped, or both).

And how can characters display their accomplishments? So far, by titles and vanity gear, but GW2 limits this, because there isn’t any inspection of gear or achievements to compare and contrast with others.

Another progression route could be for the home instance. There isn’t really a home for players to customize though. Imagine placing furniture, plants, etc, inside your home. These could be dropped from dungeons, wvw, bosses, gem-store, achievements, etc.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

nexxe.7081

The two main areas for discussion will be Horizontal and Vertical progression, however please understand that the commentary and ideation we are really looking for regarding vertical is around its accessibility in game.

I’m not sure I understand this bit; could you clarify?

Hi,

To clarify I am looking forward to hearing the communities thoughts on speed of acquisition such as how long crafting time takes? or drop rates in fractals and other areas of the game etc.

I hope this adds some clarity.

Chris

Crafting needs to be revamped. It’s already been over a year since GW2 released. It’s time to revamp it for newer players, or returning players.

Leveling up crafting is too expensive if a new player tries to buy the materials on trading post.

Not only that, it’s too confusing for the new player to figure out discoveries, and where to get crafting materials out in the world, and by the time they do figure it out, they will have already outlevel the crafting equipment and gear.

At the least, we should be able to start there once we get there. I came back to GW2 to experience it again, but jumping puzzles was always one of my least favorite things about it, and my time is better spent on something else, which isn’t as frustrating. A-Net still hasn’t learned how to balance frustration and fun.
