Because warhorns are lame. It doesn’t inspire combat like an off-hand sword or axe would. If i could sum it up, people don’t want a “passive” weapon.

What if it’s offensive? What makes it a dedicated “passive” weapon. There’s no way of knowing if it will be passive or not until they realease more information about it

Well, i’m only speculating, based off the current warhorns in the game. There’s only 2 skills for it, and it’s obvious that the warhorn will be about blowing the horn which is probably a boon skill.

Warhorns are usually passive with boons, so that’s why people don’t like them much.

People want a weapon that does actual damage, such as an axe, pistol, or a sword. We don’t know what the actual skills will be, but i seriously doubt it’s going to be anything like these other off-hand weapons. At least with the Mesmer’s shield, it does pretty amazing damage skills, but if this new warhorn is anything like current warhorns, then it’s going to be useless.

My concern is this : if they create hard roles and the content in HoT requires a certain role for the party to be completed we will go back to square one on the whole “waiting around for 1 person to finally engage in content” problem they sought out to solve in the first place.

Yes and I agree that is not ideal.

But, neither is (IMO) dictatorial, skipping>permastacking>meleeing, DPS-only parties, all in matching clothes…

So if the choice is between waiting in queue for hours or all the fun I’ve been having for the past few years, I’ll take fun.

An automatic dungeon tool would eliminate that problem. It works good with SPvP currently. The wait times are negligible.

Imagine the WoW druid (tank, healer, dd) depending on which tree you spec-ed, now apply that for all the WoW classes. That is GW2’s profession system in a nutshell.
Just that here the players define what they want and need for certain groups.

Not really, because there isn’t Direct Healing for Healers, and there isn’t Controlled Threat mechanics for Tanks.

Here’s how i’ve always interpreted the devs on this issue.

1. They never restricted roles or the trinity.
2. They wanted all roles to be viable to get groups faster, so players wouldn’t have to wait for a Tank or Healer to join.

That’s it. Anyone who has followed GW2 before it’s launch would have known this.

Wrong. It’s only “free” if you pre-purchase.

Even after that blog post I still don’t feel too hot(pun intended) about the expansion pack. Form what we’ve seen and hear so far from anet it doesn’t seem like much content yet it has a 50.00 base price, unless this expansion is up to caliber with expansions like WoW and FF14 then it’s not even worth it tbh. We need Anet to reveal more about the content coming to HoT so I can finally set my mind at ease(or disappointment).

I disagree with this. I think that it doesn’t have to be as much content as a WoW expansion because for the last content free year in WoW, people are paying $15 a month for nothing, and then paying $50 for an expansion that people were done with in a couple of months anyway. This to me is not really a good value.

By contrast, people bought Guild Wars 2 for $60 and got hundreds and hundreds (if not thousands) of hours out of it without paying more.

HoT is the entry gate to the new area. You can wait until more content comes out that feeds off HoT if you like until it becomes worth it, but I’ll be there from the beginning, gaining the new currencies, working on the new legendaries, unlocking my guild hall, leveling my masteries, so when stuff is added, I’m not hopelessly backlogged.

The WoW analogy doesn’t work.

People assume that players are constantly paying $15 a month for a year straight, or longer. Some people only pay for a month or two, then take a break until the next major update or expansion comes out. Is that extra $15 worth it? That’s up to each individual to decide. Do i question people’s judgement when they spend $15+ a month on gems in GW2? No, it’s their money, and if they see value on spending money on gems, it’s their prerogative.

It’s both. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Any Anet employee isn’t going to work for free. It’s just not going to happen, especially since they can go work on other projects that would pay them.

This game desperately needs a public test server. WoW and Swtor have one, and other games as well, but it doesn’t really help in some of them because of the way they are set up.. If set up properly, it can request feedback forms in-game, with specific questions and surveys, gathering data on changes, such as the issues that Jon mentions in his first post. It’s just a suggestion.

And that assumes that players would answer those questions seriously. Free response would open up to random BS inputted in for those who don’t care and that’s a lot of time by people to read those free response. Multiple Choice won’t cover I like most of the change except for this one aspect and there are likely too many permutations of what they like vs not like in a system for them to put every single one.

This is true, but if the surveys were constructed and worded carefully, it could circumvent and filter out a lot of false data. Professional pollsters and data gathering services do this all the time. It’s only a suggestion though, and the game could live without it, but it’s also not a bad idea, especially since other games do this too.

This is like Trion’s Archeage debacle all over again. It’s just leaving players feeling salty, and even those who are fine with the pre-purchase, have to hear about this constantly. It left the community in a wounded state, which is sad.

As a veteran who doesn’t want to pre-purchase, i’m given two choices.

1. Pre-purchase within a time limit, to get a “loyalty” perk.
2. Buy it later, without a “loyalty” perk.

I guess this means their generosity is only temporary, and our loyalty is treated as such.

I shouldn’t be surprised though, because most of their content was temporary anyway, and veterans have always been pushed to the side for new players.

I’ll just feel bad for the new players of today, who will be treated as temporary vets in the future.

There is no ‘unspending’. Only ‘overspending’. The 3 visible lines = what you choose. Dislike a line? go to that marker, open the window and choose the other line you want. Then put traits in there. Keep ‘overwriting’ (by choosing something else over a line you dont like’ until you got what you want.

That’s fine, but a newer character that’s sub-80 cannot unlock the other trait lines because they won’t have enough points to unlock them.

This was a pretty bad implementation for lower levels, because they can’t start over. All their points are already spent. That’s what some of you don’t get. It’s fine for older lvl 80s, since they have enough points to re-learn everything.

Keep in mind that purchasing HoT will not only give you the content coming with the expansion, but also all the “free” content coming post-expansion. A-net announced that those who do not purchase HoT will be unable to continue receiving content updates after HoT hits (or at the very least story updates, I can’t remember exactly what).

Really? That’s like saying, that if you don’t buy HoT, no more updates for your acc’, ie your stuffed. Content wise anyway.

This implies they want you ‘commitment’ to the game…..interesting.

I’m pretty sure this means HoT specific content updates. It’s like every other MMO, where they focus on their expansion while the core game and previous expansions die out. It’s a shame really, because GW2 was unique when they actually updated older zones, but they abandoned that concept after season 1.

One thing still has been left out and is being kept secret and that is the amount of maps. Anet I’m a VET but not a blind customer.
I have never since GW 1 bought a game without knowing in advance the amount of maps.
So please Anet would you please stop playing cat and mouse and tell us, stop avoiding the question. No map quantity = no purchase period.

So I could sell you a game with 50 maps and you’d be solid? LOL give me a call dude I’ll gladly offer you 50 maps that are all 4 KB in size and you can fill my wallet with some cash….

This is the dumbest complaint I’ve ever seen…

You’re missing his point entirely. He’s obviously talking about maps filled with content, like they were in GW1 campaigns and the core GW2 game. He’s not blindly going to pay for Verdant Brink only. It’s actually a logical decision. He wants more info, and that’s his right.

I think they will announce that veterans get a character slot for the 50$ game, and new players get the base game. That would make a LOT of people pretty happy. I think Anet is slow, but I do think they will make this better.

Either that, or they’re throwing us a bone on traits because they won’t give us anything on HoT.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

The comparisons are invalid.

  • In a P2P game, you are paying to access their servers, not for content updates or anything else.
  • In GW2’s B2P model, we are not required to pay for accessing their servers.

The core game was paid for by the initial purchase of the core game, and any other updates afterwards was offered by Anet.

HoT’s value should be judged solely on it’s content, and nothing else.

I don’t understand people, that think free updates before HoT, is a justification for the HoT price tag. Is it any wonder why gamers are the most jaded? That’s because they let companies swindle & hustle them. It’s actually quite comical.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

The only thing the Ultimate Edition offers is a discount on gems. That’s it.

No physical items, and nothing new compared to the Deluxe Edition. Only a fool would buy it over the Deluxe version.

Wow, this is plain wrong.

What about people who were going to buy gems anyway. They get those gems at a discount. A 50% discount.

So if you going to buy the $75 version and you get $50 worth of gems for the $100 version, you’re getting the $75 versions for $50 with a character slot, and everything else. I’m going to buy gems, might as well get the now.

And this just proves my point. The Ultimate edition only offers a $25 discount for gems. That is the only difference compared to the Deluxe version.

What is so ultimate about a $25 discount anyway? Other things should have been included besides that.

The sad part is, that there’s now 2 paywalls that segregate players, and Anet said they didn’t want to do this. Just more broken promises.

The 1st paywall is Season 2 being locked behind gems.
The 2nd is the expansion now.

And don’t give me that tired old argument about joining someone else that has season 2 unlocked already, or the other one about converting gold to gems to buy them. It’s still blocking access and segregating players.

A Detailed Comparison for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

Hey OP, I have a question for you. With all the great comparison work you’ve done, and all the comparing, how come you left out dynamic events which the game is centered around. For example Guild Wars Prophecies had 209 quests.

If you add up all the quests in all four Guild Wars 1 products, you’ll find it was less than the number of dynamic events than Guild Wars 2 launched with.

You also left out species and starter areas. Seems to me I can play five races in this game, but only play 1 race throughout all of Guild Wars 2.

This is an expansion comparison. Not an original game comparison. When we spend the 45eur hot costs, we are not getting 5 new races to play, nor a ton of dynamic events

No, we’re not. However, we are getting events, and we don’t know how many and we’ve have to compare that to the original game, since events replace quests. They content. We don’t have enough information to compare at this point, and so the comparison is premature.

One might argue then that the pre-purchase is premature, but then no one is forcing anyone to buy it. Why make a comparison when we don’t have the information we need to compare yet?

It’s pretty safe to say there won’t be a lot of events in Verdant Brink. From what i played in beta, even Orr had twice as many.

“Why make a comparison when we don’t have the information we need to compare yet?”

The other argument could be, “Why prepurchase if we don’t have all of the information yet?”.

It’s like the marketing team didn’t put any thought into the packages.

A glider skin
Gems

These are all fine, but the deluxe and ultimate packages are still the same. You only get a discount on gems for the ultimate. There isn’t even a physical box or physical items, and they want to charge the same price as the original (i meant for standard version). It’s laughable really.

And then on the other side with the standard, you don’t get anything. It’s like a slap in the face to all those who just wanted a cheaper standard version.

They couldn’t at least included a character slot or a mini? Really? It’s like one big joke. This is why there’s outrage. They wanted to fleece people into getting a deluxe version instead.
