Fist thing they must listen is : Stop trying to make this game become an E-Sport like MOBA . This is MMORPG . Focus on WvW , contents , storyline , event , …. Those are strengths of their game .

MMOs are dying rapidly. Even WoW is dying. It’s down to 3 million now (in one quarter!). MOBAs and Esports is where the money is currently, but even that is dying now too.

Don’t do a repair. It takes too long. The method I tried below fixed it for me.

Delete GW2’s temporary file so it has to regenerate the file. You’ll only lose your graphics and sound settings but that’s it.

It fixed it for me.

Go here: C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2 and delete the “Local.dat” file.

This worked for me. Thanks. I hope i don’t have the same issue again though.

Not surprising. Another failed experiment by Anet, which will join the graveyard of all the rest such as EotM and Living World. All that time and money wasted by developing them. I feel bad for the devs who created them.

I wasn’t a big fan of the dungeons (due to various bugs, non-trinity, etc), but many people were, and a whole community based on them will be forced to do fractals and raids now, or they will just quit.

Not sure why people are arguing against the OP, it’s a valid complaint, it does not tell you it will automatically take the booster.

A sane person would expect some sort of selection window, the way its works is counter intuitive.

That’s because people are quick to defend Anet. The OP’s complaint is valid. This was a silly move on Anet’s part.

Only 4 new armor sets (per armor type)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

Dont forget gw2 is not like other games .. we always keep getting new stuff !

Sure, sure. In 3 years, we got in game:

  • Illustrious armor (the ascended one)
  • Glorious armor (the PvP one) and its reskin, Glorious Hero
  • Carapace and its reskin, Luminescent
  • Hellfire armor
  • Radiant armor

Meanwhile, the Gem Store got:

  • Aetherblade armor
  • Primeval armor
  • Braham’s armor
  • Phalanx armor
  • Flamewrath armor
  • Zodiac armor
  • Rampart armor
  • And 24 (!!!) outfits

So yeah, we definitely keep getting stuff… In the Gem Store. We got even less armors in-game than in the Gem Store, and that’s considering how ArenaNet said they would focus the Gem Store in outfits, not in armors.

They made that statement after they started doing outfits. You can’t make their statement retroactive and then accuse them of lying.

in GW1 we had in one year more new armors in-game then we have gem store armor skins in GW2, in my eyes they have become extremely lazy.

In GW1, you had only humans to play as which is much different than what we have in GW2. More work is required to create GW2 armor than GW1 armor.

Uhuh.

So the excuse “GW2 is more complex” is the reason why, 3 years after release of the original Guild Wars, we had:

  • More than 160 new maps (in GW2, 3 years later we have 3 new maps)
  • More than 150 new armors completely available in game (in GW2, 3 years later we have 15 new armors in-game)
  • 4 new professions (in GW2, 3 years after release we have zero new professions)
  • More than 70 new skills for each of the core professions, not counting the generic PvE only skills (in GW2, 3 years after release we have a single new profession specific skill for each profession)

And so on, and so on. Despite how, at the time, ArenaNet had half of the staff they have today.

Considering how by then we had ten times more armors – again, ten times -, maybe the lesson here is that, if GW2 is that complex, ArenaNet tried to bite more than they can chew.

I suggest playing Guild Wars 1. That game is almost completely different than GW2.

Indeed.

Gameplay wise they are incredibly similar. But you are right in saying that they are very different: one was a big success, able to fund both constant updates and even a sequel, while the other has been such a failure that it has been forced to go free to play after enduring multiple content droughts and having next to no content added to it.

And one had, in two years, 150+ new armors available in game. The other has had, in three years, 15 armors available in-game. With the massive amount of… 4? Armors incoming.

That’s a lot of buzz in one post. 4 (per armor type), fits 5 races, isn’t made to fit 10 polygons. Drought due to an expansion to give the game (most of) the things it direly needed to keep people happy, a combat system (while buggy at times) that’s better than just about any other standard MMO out there, and so on, but eh, whatever. Buzz words are fun.

Enjoy GW1, bud.

The polygon count is irrelevant since the engine, tools, and techniques today are vastly superior and actually make production quicker than ever.

Wow this guy has no idea what he’s talking about.

I honestly agree with yours and the OPs sentiment, they had three years to work on this after all, and this is just… not enough, nor high quality enough, to justify 5/6ths the price of the original game.

But good gosh have you ever even opened Maya or Zbrush? Do you know why video games are continually getting shorter and smaller with each generation? Because what you said is completely false, the pipeline hasn’t been made easier, its been made nothing but harder. You are correct that most of the improvements to graphics are in the forms of new map types which totally disregard polycount. But all that means is that making those maps is now required work on top of the modeling and sculpturing that was already done in previous generations. The only thing which has really been made slightly easier since the 90s is animation because of improvements in rigging, literally everything else has got nothing but more complicated, more time consuming, and more expensive.

Yes, i use them frequently, although just as a hobby, not as a professional. You are wrong though. Modeling and texturing isn’t hard at all, especially for professionals that GW2 has. These aren’t newbs fresh out of some gaming academy either (i hope).

Animation is also easier now thanks to Motion Capture. Rigging is the most time consuming part. Why do you think they make outfits only now? Because making each each armor piece separately, and then rigging each piece for each race takes longer. They also have to weight-paint the pieces to the models which takes even more time, since they have to make sure they don’t clip through the models.

They also have different teams for armor design, rigging, and terraforming/zone modelers (and asset builders), so don’t think it’s only one person doing all this stuff. Believe me, the GW2 modelers, texture artists, and animators, etc (some of them fulfill multiple roles), can pump out quality content in several months or less. They have schedules though, and they have to follow their projects, which is the only restraint they have, otherwise there would be dozens of sets these past 3 years. Outfits were obviously at the top of the priority list though, because they are easier and faster to create, and the more they sell, the more money they make (i don’t blame them for this either).

As i said, the polygon count is irrelevant to the pipeline, because i’m sure Anet has an estimated limit on how many polygons each outfit or armor piece should be for their servers and game “engine”.

Good. There’s a reason I left WoW at Cataclysm.

Pug raids are miserable. They’re either an organizational disaster or they’re pitted against content that’s made easy enough for a pug clear.

The latter of those two options is the worst.

Here’s the moment I decided to quit raiding:

I was entering the Deatwing’s Lair raid with a Raid LFG. We breezed through every boss, downing them without a wipe. I defeated Deathwing by doing almost nothing but tab targetting and following the mob of pugs. When the great and legendary Deatwing died to this group…I realized that there was nothing to be proud of.

Deathwing suddenly felt like a pushover schmuck and there was nothing any challenging hard mode could do to fix his ruined reputation.

Please ArenaNet. Please, please, keep this content challenging and don’t ever build out a group finder. Don’t just cater to casual content and don’t just cater to hardcore content. Provide both and embrace a complex and diverse playerbase!

PUG raids work well in GW2. Teq and Wurm, and Vinewrath aren’t “disasters”.

They also aren’t very challenging.

I should’ve clarified. I meant it works well in organizing. As for “challenging”, it works well in WoW, since there’s different difficulty levels: LFR (easiest), Normal (regular guilds), and Mythic (for highly organized and progression guilds). GW2 is only catering to the latter, neglecting the former groups.

Mhm, and having diffrent tiers of difficult is good for this. But it takes more work and it’s not what GW2 has in mind. Not knowing exactly how much work either option takes but do you think your players who would use LFR would in general want a raid or another open world area or open world boss? What is that demographic’s playtime focused? So is it worth building that easy mode raid that you could complete with the LFR tool? Or is it better to spend those resources elsewhere where they would appreciate them more?

Well, if they don’t know their own demographics, all this raid stuff is irrelevant. GW2 was designed for open-world encounters, dungeons, and events, not instanced raids. Past experience, from other MMOs, says that different tiers of difficulty, is the best route for all playstyles. This shouldn’t even be debated. It’s common sense.

It’s like having an e-sport tournament for hardcore pvp players only, neglecting all the casual pvp’ers who play ranked & unranked games. Should the latter be denied new maps and modes unless they meet the criteria of an e-sport tournament?

Developing only for the hardcore guilds will eventually drive players away like it did in Wildstar.

No group finder

Being a raider myself and sometimes enjoying the ability to group up with other random people, I asked about a group-finder system for raids — whether there is one in HoT or will be in the future. And he explicitly said no — there will not be one at the launch of HoT, and there are no plans to ever put one in. He emphasized that this was intended to be coordinated endgame content, not something a PUG can tackle:

“[For raids,] we focused on players working together on really challenging content. I believe that is part of community building. We cater to a ton to different playstyles. We have content that you don’t have to group for and some that you can do in ad hoc groups. Basically, you can go anywhere you want to join in with other players already.”

People are confusing B2P and F2P models.

B2P gives you access to the servers after purchasing the game.
F2P gives you access to the servers without purchasing the game.

In essence, GW2 is now officially F2P, since it no longer requires a purchase to play.

edit: I should also clarify that any restrictions are irrelevant, and only access to the servers is relevant when discussing each model. GW1, for instance, is still B2P.

Warhorns are usually passive with boons, so that’s why people don’t like them much.

People want a weapon that does actual damage, such as an axe, pistol, or a sword. We don’t know what the actual skills will be, but i seriously doubt it’s going to be anything like these other off-hand weapons. At least with the Mesmer’s shield, it does pretty amazing damage skills, but if this new warhorn is anything like current warhorns, then it’s going to be useless.

Look at what your saying though. You countered your own argument. Shield on most classes is defensive is it not? Very low dps if any. And here we have chronomancer with a spec that will have the shield doing a good chunk of damage.

They took a passive weapon . Made it dps . There’s nothing saying the same can’t be done for the ele and warhorn.

I’m mainly talking about the immersion & visualization of a weapon, not the actual damage numbers or anything.

A shield is different. It’s been used as an offensive weapon in historical battles, but a warhorn is way different. You don’t see warhorns being used in movies or games as an offensive weapon in popular culture or whatever.

It’s just lame and boring like the scepter, but at least the scepter makes sense for an elementalist since it’s more magical. A warhorn is more suited for scouting roles in lore and fantasy in general.

A sword would’ve been better, or a new weapon such as a wand.

Anyway, warhorn just doesn’t make sense for a magical class like elementalist, from an immersion and fantasy setting. That’s what i’m trying to say.

Merging four threads into one. So repeats by the same person don’t (necessarily) indicate forgetfulness, or extra zeal, or spamming.

Good idea! Thanks.
