Keep in mind, the damage is due to Celestial gear.

The traits are weird though, since there’s only 3 trait lines, and Power isn’t one of them.

I’m not sure what Revenant is supposed to be. The skills are very interesting and quite fun though.

I just have it bound to my thumb button on my mouse, it’s easy. I feel like this is more of an l2p problem than an ANet problem.

Huh? It has nothing to do with learning to play. It’s an inconvenience. It has nothing to do with challenge. It’s about as useful as holding ctrl down to see players/npcs names.

I understand why they do it though, because they actually want people to search for items such as the coins in dry top or silverwastes, but they could actually code those to be ignored by the feature.

They should just add a toggle.

It was a legacy feature from GW1, but it wasn’t needed in GW2, so they should just get rid of it.

Is there a lack of meaningful content?

WvW, dungeons, and dynamic events were supposed to be “endgame”, then it morphed into the living world/story, then into a seasonal tv show, then season 2 achievements became the new endgame “dungeon” content, and WvW also became a PvE environment with EotM.

What in the world made you believe that dungeons, WvW and SPvP were “supposed to be” end game. Not only did Anet not say this before launch, they never even implied it.

From the very beginning, Anet talked about a living breathing world. They said, straight out, the game centered on dynmaic events. They spoke about story. They even said there’s no end game, or the end game begins at level 1.

I would love to see you post some evidence of what was supposed to be end game. Cause from my point of view, the Living Story is far more in in line with what Anet was talking about all along as long term goals than anything you listed.

I never meant officially, but that’s what endgame usually is in an MMO. It consists of dungeons/raids and pvp. It was/is the de-facto content style in almost all mainstream MMOs, including GW2. I’ll admit that it was a poor choice of words on my part, and i shouldn’t have said, “supposed to be”.

Devs, including those in other games, can spin it all they want, and claim endgame starts at lvl 1, or that there isn’t an endgame, but that’s just marketing. The fact is, there always will be some form of endgame, in a progression based leveling game, whether it’s horizontal or vertical.

As i’ve said, "If i could sum up GW2’s purpose, it would be an open-world environment based on events. ".. which agrees with your statement: " Cause from my point of view, the Living Story is far more in in line with what Anet was talking about all along as long term goals". This might have been what Anet expected as endgame, but it’s not what some players want or expect out of “endgame”, hence why this topic keeps constantly appearing over the years. Endgame for them is dungeons and pvp, like it is in other mmos.

GW2 has always lacked focused, because it’s always experimenting with concepts. It’s only ever been consistent with SPvP.

WvW, dungeons, and dynamic events were supposed to be “endgame”, then it morphed into the living world/story, then into a seasonal tv show, then season 2 achievements became the new endgame “dungeon” content, and WvW also became a PvE environment with EotM.

If i could sum up GW2’s purpose, it would be an open-world environment based on events. That’s all it really is.

3 Years for 1 Expansion.....

nexxe.7081

Come on we waited 3 years for 1 expansion this is even higher than the World of Warcraft waiting times lol (its 2 years there) and the funny is that after this elder dragon there are 4 more that means at least 4 more expansions, so the players who are 40+ years old might not even make it till the last expansion if it continues so slow. Will Heart of Thorns be released this year at least?

You must not know WoW very well. It took 3.1 years for BC to come out after Vanilla and to be fair it hasn’t even been 3 years of this game yet, at least not for another 3 months.

Yeah, and look what they added to it. 11 zones full of quests and stories. 2 new races. 4 raids. 6 dungeons. Jewelcrafting. Arenas. 1 PvP map. Additional things like multiple reputations, new armor and weapons, flying introduced, several openworld pvp zones, crafting expanded, etc. This is in addition to the original game, which makes it even larger. Can you honestly say that LS1 & 2, and HoT, delivers as much content? I don’t want to rag on Anet, because they make quality content, but it’s mostly story-based and event-based. If i remember correctly, they disbanded their dungeon team awhile back. That says it all.

GW2 isn’t WoW. They give us new content CONSTANTLY! Guess how much of that content has been something that you had to buy… None of it. What’s the issue here? If you just love the game and want to support them, there is some really cool stuff in the gem store with no pay to win-ness to it. I say keep up the good work ANET. Y’all rock.

You’re right. It’s not WoW.

In almost all WoW expansions, you get new dungeons & raids, new pvp maps & modes, new continents & zones, new classes, new races, new crafting professions, new gear, new mounts & pets, new skills & talents, new game mechanics, new quests & stories, new arenas, etc. And this is just the expansions. After that, they constantly update the game throughout the expansion’s lifetime (the exception is WoD so far).

Just read each patch notes from patch 1.0 to patch 2.4, and you’ll realize how much they added in around 3 years: http://wow.gamepedia.com/Category:World_of_Warcraft_patches

And a few months after the expansion WoW lost 3 million people, all the people they’d gained, because that’s more than enough time to get through all the new content.

The wait between content releases in WoW is far far greater than the wait between content releases in Guild Wars 2. And regardless of anything, it doesn’t really matter how much WoW provides if you don’t like the game (which many don’t).

That’s why i mentioned “(the exception is WoD so far)”. We’re talking about a 10 year old game. GW2 isn’t even 3. WoD is the exception because it lost more people in one quarter than anytime in it’s history. Regardless, that doesn’t change the fact that WoW expansions released a significant amount of content between expansions.

Bags...Space....more of it!

Bag space isn’t the core problem. It’s the amount of redundant loot. 90% of it gets salvaged or thrown in the mystic forge. Loot needs to be less, and more meaningful, otherwise it’s just as valuable as grey junk loot, which is what greens and blues have become.

Instead of living story they would be better off adding more dynamic events. Make them more detailed and longer chains.

They actually tried that. I believe they added hundreds of new DE’s shortly after launch, but they never announced it or mentioned it any patch notes. After that we got some holiday events and Southsun Cove, then we started getting living world updates, which became Season 1.

The main problem with GW2 content, is that it was mostly temporary. It wasn’t until Season 2 that stuff started becoming more permanent.

People in this thread try to defend that there was a lot of content, but the content was shallow and very lite. They were mostly glorified dynamic events with achievements. The only substantial content was Fractals, Southsun Cove, 3 PvP maps, Eotm, and TA Aetherpath dungeon. Season 2 was just story updates with Dry Top and Silverwastes added.

I don’t understand this kind of post. MMORPG had MMO in it for a good reason. 3/4 of the content in GW 2 is arlready doable in solo. If you do the same with dungeons, it’s th death of the PvE. Random groups have certains defaults, of course, but it’s the point of an online game, you meet people, some goods, some bads and you deal with it.

There is plenty of awesome solo Rpg, don’t try to kill the essence of a game.

MMO never meant forced grouping, or grouping in general. It’s always meant that the environment is to be shared on a massive scale. There have always been instanced and non-instanced content. Neither is exclusive to “MMO”.

Meta's and exploits are killing this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

First off, the players created the Zerker meta, not A.net…a development doesn’t create a meta, players do by choosing to play only one style. Second, if you’re looking at the number of views for HoT reveal on YouTube, that’s misleading because it doesn’t take into account the number of people that have viewed it on the official site, either the HoT site itself or the main GW2…that 443k is only one segment of the viewing public(and really, 3.5 million copies…have you forgotten China, it was sold there too).

Yes, but it’s the developers’ responsibility to counter unintentional gameplay, with more balanced gameplay that isn’t borderline exploiting.

HoT Announced > Core Game Abandoned ?

I’ve been watching this debate with some interest. Like many of you, I wish there were more content in the game. By the same token, I think those who think 2 week updates and an expansion can be maintained at the same time are fooling themselves.

Players believed their “A team” was working on the expansion for 2 years now, while the other teams were working on the living story. If this was so, the expansion would’ve been in beta already.

By your logic, they weren’t working on an expansion this whole time. So which was it? An expansion being worked on for 2 years, or was it shortly after Season 2 started? We just don’t know. That blows the whole theory apart if you’re correct.

In my opinion, they announced HoT way too early, and now all the hype it generated is deflated, and it’s causing the playerbase to get anxious without any content in the interim period.

Not really. The many other bags that drop the same tier of loot can be found in abundance in the level appropriate zones. With the bags it doesn’t matter the level you open them at. 1, or 80, you’ll still get the same tier of materials.

ArenaNet’s just giving people what they want. People complained about the living story, so ArenaNet’s testing an expansion. What if instead of slowly releasing a season over a year, they were to instead hold everything back for a year and release it all at once? The lack of recent updates is standard for an expansion and they’re probably intentionally not bringing back other events so that they can gauge feedback – who complains more. ArenaNet likes doing surveys like this.

Moving forward however, I would expect to see them stick with expansions and feature smaller living stories and the reoccurring events to fill the time in between them. An expansion simply generates more press and the announcement of HoT was a boost in player numbers.

The problem is, we don’t know their future plans, except that there’s an expansion coming with no release date in sight. Whoever is in charge, keeps insisting on keeping everything secret, which is doing more harm than good, from a public relations perspective.

The funny thing is, they hyped HoT like no tomorrow, then never followed up at keeping people interested. You would think they would try to keep remaining players interested until then. It’s like the veterans are being forgotten and discarded, while they keep bringing in new players with their $10 discounts. The latest NCSoft report is bad news.

Yes, but look at the content that was released. New dungeons, raids, pvp maps, tiered gear, quests, etc. All this content kept players busy.

In contrast to GW2.. Fractals, EotM, 3 pvp maps. Season 1 & 2. Dry Top & SW. Now compare these to 3 years of WoW. There’s no comparison. You don’t even have to look at WoW. Just look at other MMOs.

I mean honestly, looking around at other games. they are all regularly releasing something. Be it events or content.. the last time I can remember having an event in gw2 now was Christmas.. the Chinese event was .. just .. no words.. but yea..

Except when working on expansions, where they basically don’t release anything new for a rather long time.

WoW is a great example, going a YEAR without any sort of new content before expansion AND require people to pay monthly for it.

Those of us that prefer the Living Story model warned for this when people demanded expansions. It is simply not feasible to have a small company such as ArenaNet both working on an expansion AND releasing big content patches at the same time.

This is so off-base. It wasn’t until the last content update at the end of MoP that Blizzard started releasing less frequent content updates. Before that though, there were many content updates in-between expansions.

Warcraft 3 was a RTS game and WoW is a MMO. Now I can see the argument that GW wasn’t a true MMO due to it’s hub/instance design ala PSO, at least an MMO the way UO and EQ are. Then you can say GW2 was a true MMO.

That’s a good point. GW2 also strayed too far from GW1 in it’s timeline. It’s around 200 years after GW1, so everything feels radically different. I think this was a huge mistake. The gap is too wide and everything feels disconnected from GW1. WoW was still within the timeframe of Warcraft, so it carried over all it’s lore.

Guys, just give up. They aren’t going to change it. Time and time again, history shows that some of the Anet devs don’t know what humility is, so they double down on their stance and defend it. FoV and First Person View come to mind, until they finally changed it, but once the name is set, they can’t change it. Some of them are just too arrogant and prideful. They always seem to think they know better. I guess some of us are just expecting too much out of GW2. Just learn to accept it for what it is, a really cheesy PVE storyline with dragons. You won’t find meaningful depth, especially when you have silly names like “Dragon Hunter” that seem to be catered towards pre-teens. Maybe that’s their target audience though.

Oh, and more giants, and a non bugged giant spawning event would be nice too.

We are not all dragon hunters. Hunters don’t defend themselves or the land from a threat, which is what we are doing against the dragons. Hunter are on the offensive, the ones that stalk their prey and prepare the traps for it. Hunters don’t fight, they murder.

And not all professions/players share the notion that the only way to fight the dragons is to eliminate them, their minions and the entire Sylvari race.

..because the Pact isn’t actively hunting Modremoth, right? Heart of Thorns is exactly all about that. Didn’t you play Season 2?
