The main reason why i dislike SPvP, is because it’s too twitchy. There isn’t enough time to think about counters, cc, or overall stratetgy. It’s too fast-paced.
The other reasons: camera control, movement, overall combat system.
You mean the article here? https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/
This is where all the releases are, and the upcoming release, but the article is still here.
I think skimpy armor damages my suspension of disbelief in the world of Tyria, just like Quaggan Backpacks do. I wish they would take their world a little more serious, and make all armor practical (as in, it actually provides protection to more than just the female naughty bits).
Then again, they also have a weapon that fires unicorns, so I won’t get my hopes up.
Quote of the year. GW2 needs to be more serious. It has all this ridiculous fluff, that it’s very hard to take anything seriously. Silly backpacks, rainbows, cows thrown from catapults, SAB pixels being shot, fun boxes, ec.. The immersion is killed when i see this everywhere. There’s a time and place for this stuff, but to have it during pvp and wvw, or just general pve, make it’s all the more ridiculous.
where did you get that number? where’s the source or link? you can’t just claim something without it. lol.
Google is your friend
http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/08/28/guild-wars-2s-first-birthday-by-the-numbers/
although you are right. he should have put the link in there
Thanks, but the OP should know better to provide a link.
where did you get that number? where’s the source or link? you can’t just claim something without it. lol.
Scarlet is the scapegoat of the community right now. She’s just an easy target for people that hate the living story, or the game in general. She doesn’t really bother me, but that’s because i don’t care about the living story currently.
Don’t give out the secret of Ebonhawke! It’s the greatest place for crafting. All the crafting stations are close to the banks and TP, and there’s no need for using waypoints there.
There would be more coordination, and if Person A taunted first, and was about to die, Person B could taunt it off, or the other Persons could use combos on Person A and heal him.
Except this tactic is already in the game in the form of stuns, knockdowns, knockbacks, and pulls.
Yes, but the mob would still be randomly attacking anyone, instead of focusing on the player who taunted. Those skills aren’t as effective, especially in large zergs in the open-world.
It’s not broken. It’s just the way it was designed. It was an experiment, and in my opinion, it wasn’t executed well.
It was a nice theory, but trinity mmos give more control, and less chaos. Seeing everyone dodge and run every minute, looks ridiculous.
The AI needs to conform with this combat system via a threat mechanic, instead of running around with it’s head cut off. If every class had a taunt skill, there would be more control. Even if that taunt was around 5 secs, with a long cooldown, it would provide stability. There would be more coordination, and if Person A taunted first, and was about to die, Person B could taunt it off, or the other Persons could use combos on Person A and heal him.
The combat isn’t great, and i’m sure A-net knows this, but it’s too late to change the combat. It would require a “NGE”, and we all know what happened to SWG when that happened. They would have to revamp the AI, player skills, dungeons, SPvP, WvW.. etc..
It’s not going to happen.
Sadly, most game developers ignore developing for multiple monitor setups. It’s not just A-net, or the mmo genre, but across all video games. It’s very rare to see something like you suggest. I can never go back to just one single monitor anymore. It’s just more efficient having two these days.
Because each country has different rules for their economic policies. It’s not worth the trouble going through all the legal processes for every country.
It’s impossible to even attempt to measure a server’s population, because of the Guesting feature. Only A-net knows the true numbers, and since there isn’t any subscriptions, one way of measuring the population is by averaging user logins per hour, per day, per week, etc.., but only A-net is able to do that.
I would stop playing. I didn’t like GW1’s combat, but i did like the trinity of other traditional mmos.
It depends if you’re going to do mainly PvE, and if you have a lot of gold (crafting mats are really expensive these days). If you are going to do heart tasks & dynamic events, then you might as well level up armorsmithing, but if not, just use the armor from karma vendors throughout the zones.
Its funny how many people don’t look at game options lol … 1,4,5, can all be fixed in the game option under general and key binds….
No, they cannot. You misread his points. He is not talking about keybinding in point 5.
The sudden planetwide emergence of the Quaggan Empire?
You mean they don’t have one already? All those backpacks and hats they sell…
are we dere yet
Colin meme pics never get old. lol.
Besides, don’t get too excited everyone. LewisB runs a fansite, and he’s not a dev.
That is the only reason I am excited. If Anet said the same thing, I wouldn’t care or believe it. The fact that a player is saying that it’s better than an expansion means so much imo.
I would agree, but he’s not a normal player. He’s an editor at a very popular news site. Many of them hyped GW2 pre-launch, with very few criticisms.

Mounts could actually be useful for many things.
Immersion.
Combat.
Travel.
etc.
A lot of you are saying no, but you offer very little to the discussion as to why they shouldn’t be in GW2. This is why developers hate coming to these forums, because when a minority of people offer constructive ideas, the majority of fanboys shout them down, saying things like, “Go back to WoW!1”.
Just because you didn’t like them in another MMO, doesn’t mean it couldn’t work in GW2. In fact, A-net could probably make them better and different, as they have with a lot of ideas in this game.
In fact, waypoints kill many aspects of an MMO. The instant teleportation was a nice idea, but it kills immersion in the long run. Take WvW for instance. Imagine having a caravan or a vanguard of mounts on your way to battle. Just like the real life battles were, but instead you have unrealistic mobs of people running for “miles” to a fort, instead of marching and camping out.
I could go on, but there isn’t any point, someone will reply to this with, “go bak to wow/mmo!1 GW2 iz da future!”

we can expect more scarlet.. more temp content…
i seriously doubt we’ll hear the last of scarlet after her storyline is over.
If you open the map in gw2, you can see around 4 different regions that cannot be explored. Crystal Desert being one of them. If you watch wooden potatoes on youtube, he explains that it might one day be opened up to players. It’s in one of his videos on the new wvw map, where the new map actually looks like crystal desert, hence the same assets in the map could be foreshadowing a crystal desert update.
Travel in GW2 needs to be reworked.
It really does become a nuisance to always have to switch to movement enhancing skills.
The devs had good intentions with waypoints, but there’s just too many of them and it kills immersion.
It would be more immersive if they just reduced the amount of waypoints and introduced mounts, or even npc flightpaths, especially in WvW. Gameplay balance would be disrupted of course, so that’s also an issue.
Waypoints make sense around dungeons, portals, and major hubs though.
It would totally unbalance thieves if dots revealed their stealth.
Thieves’ stealth doesn’t last long anyway.
If was an unlimited stealth, then i would agree that dots should break it.
The only way to effectively turn your character, is with the right-mouse button, but this can only happen while moving.
ehm… no. I turn my character all the time with only using the mouse.
Left click hold + move the mouse turns camera but not you,
right click hold + move the mouse turns your whole character.
You are wrong. Holding right mouse button down doesn’t turn your character. It never has. There have been countless threads on this subject in the suggestions forum since beta. Holding either left or right mouse button down function the same.
Read the last 2 words in my quote… it only works while moving.
- They all have awkward camera’s that are not smooth, at all !
- character responsiveness is awful.
- reaction times are awful. These are all in GW2 as well. Try turning with A & D, and it’s like moving a truck on ice. Also, try jumping, and you’ll notice that your head hits a ceiling. The physics for GW2 characters needs to be adjusted.
Why are you controlling the camera with A & D?
Because certain gameplay requires it when standing still. For example, jumping puzzles; or being atop a keep in WvW, raining down AoE on players. The only way to effectively turn your character, is with the right-mouse button, but this can only happen while moving. Play any other MMO and try this out for yourself. Just about all of them allow us to turn our characters with right-mouse button. It gives the player more precision.
If GW2 had better camera control, animations that synced properly, better physics, and overall better character movement, then i wouldn’t mind jumping puzzles. They are just frustrating though, due to the aforementioned problems.
Just don’t do them for the daily. I never do.
Dodge.
I went back to WoW for a few days when they were offering free play time and the one thing i missed more then anything was dodging, that and moving while casting.
Also the graphics in GW2 are superior to any other mmo.
Every class can cast something while moving. I don’t know why some of the people here insist on being dishonest when describing other games.
umm im not being dishonest, unless they have changed every single caster in WoW to cast while moving in the last few months what i said is 100% true.
WoW is incredibly outdated these days in every aspect, they are desperately playing catch up, look at there new expansion, they have copied paste things from more modern mmos.
Yes, you are. While you can’t cast everything while moving, you can cast some things and you certainly aren’t rooted in one place for a duration of the fight.
It’s more like evolving rather than desperately playing catch up, while GW2 devolved by introducing an obvious, flat out gigantic grind with the introduction of ascended gear.
Warlock 2.5 sec rooted Shadow Bolt fillers and 3 sec rooted Chaos Bolts ftl.
I went back and watched our Heroic kill of Deathwing and it was just awful, sitting there, rocking back and forth casting shadowbolt fillers. Ugh, never again.
Cataclysm ended over a year ago. You obviously don’t even play any more, like most of the others here, and therefore have no idea what you’re talking about.
I will say this, however. Roleplaying a zergling and spamming 1 doesn’t sound like much fun.
You act as if WoW has radically changed or something. It’s combat is still the same. Stop trying to defend it as if it’s combat is similar to GW2, because it’s not.
You cannot move while casting spells. Period. The only exception is if you have certain talents or glyphs. I play WoW everyday, so stop trying to make excuses.

OP is describing WoW over 6 years ago. WoW today, is so much different. You don’t have to grind at all, or use any strategy, unless you do Heroic Raids.
Other than that, you can pretty much zerg the content, like you can in GW2.
I’ll agree with the OP though, on the points of the ridiculous means of obtaining ascended gear, but i wouldn’t call it grinding.
It’s just terrible game design, to use gold and crafting combined, to obtain it.
I’ll never understand why A-net just doesn’t put this stuff on bosses, throughout all dungeons, or even world bosses. Do they even have loot tables or itemization?
They would have to scrap the Personal Story entirely, which wouldn’t bother me if they did. In fact, it would make the game even better. Replace it with Living Story instead. They are actually better anyway. If they wanted to keep the Personal Story though, they would have to use Phasing, like WoW does, and separate players until they finished the Personal Story. That would be a bad idea though, and it’s one of the worst things to ever happen in WoW, and the MMO genre.
I would be very surprised if they didn’t come out with an expansion. Could you imagine how many boxes they would sell if they came out with another, “Nightfall”, or “Factions”?
People rarely talk in most sPvP.
The maps are so small and compact that there’s rarely time for any banter or calling out of incomings like there is for stuff like Arathi Basin in WoW. =/
You’re right. The maps are too small. I try calling out incoming, but someone is usually trying to kill me before i can.
It’s the opposite in WvW though. There is a lot of chat there.
It just felt forced on us. Trahearne, the character, wasn’t so bad, but he was made the leader in the story, and that’s where the problem began. He should’ve just been a side character for several stories, then vanished into the background. Why would nominating a scholar of Orr, be an epic tale? It’s not. Not only that, but his voice and tone, and overall weakness, makes it feel as if he doesn’t want to be there. It just kills the mood.
The major problem though, was that there are 2 stories running parallel alongside each other.
Personal Story & Dungeon Stories.
They try to weave themselves together, but it doesn’t work. All we ever get is mail from Destiny’s Edge, telling us they are checking on our progress. How lame. I actually wanted to participate with them, but that only happens during dungeons.
In my opinion, the Personal Story should’ve involved Destiny’s Edge throughout the game, but it stops even before level 20.
I would actually play GW1 if it had jumping and an open-world, and if it wasn’t so linear. Those are the major downsides for me.
There wasn’t anything really special, sitting with 4 other players, talking about what you had for lunch, or how depressed one’s life is..
The reason people socialized? Because poor game design forced them to literally wait 12+ hours for a mob to spawn. I’m glad those days are over with. If people want to socialize that much, there is always Second Life.
I really wish A-net would move the extra dailies that are needed, under the appropriate section in the Achievement panel. Having to sift through all the dailies in the Daily section is ridiculous.
Because A-net gave us Living Story, which was supposed to change the old zones, but it wasn’t very effective. Some will argue the changes in Kessex Hills, but those changes are running parallell with all the old events and storylines. I really wish Living Story could work, but it isn’t.
It’s a very huge task to try and evolve old events, and zones, and A-net learned the hard way. It’s just not feasible.

But with this very statement of yours, the future for GW2 just got a lot brighter
Cheers, Mr. Whiteside. I guess I’ll be digging up the pages of notes which have been accumulated in the past months to get more active, because now is the time again where I get the feeling that things can get done, finally.Don’t get your hopes too high man, this is just a catch so people don’t leave the forums. They didn’t need this CDI if they would have replied to the suggestions people have made over the time in the suggestion forum
Everything that has been suggested in here in these CDI threads can be found hundreds of times in Suggestions but they invented this CDI when people lost hope that they ever read any suggestions. It is just a move they made to keep people calm down and not spread some bad marketing about the game. It is just a psychological manipulation of the vocal community because the others are not interested in the future of the game: they play or quit playing depending on likes and dislikes but don’t forge their opinion on hopes
CDI is actually more productive. It’s consolidated into one thread, instead of having literally hundreds of pages of thread to sift through.
Good post and i agree with some of it, but the real problem with GW2, is the hybrid combat system. It tries to combine Action-Combat with tradtional MMO combat, which doesn’t mesh well.
GW2’s e-sport failed on so many levels, that i don’t know where to begin.
If i had to start somewhere, it would be the interface.
I’m looking at this from the perspective of a new player.
Accessing SPvP is confusing.
Joining a team is confusing.
Leaving a game is confusing.
Ranks, Traits, Gear, Weapons.. all confusing.
GW2 seriously needs tooltips for all this.
GW2’s SPvP tries to fuse a First-Person Shooter browser with an MMO. This is very bad. It needs to replace Play Now with Random, to make it more clear. The whole browser needs a revamp though.
The combat would be next. GW2’s combat doesn’t work well with PvP, because it’s combat is based on the Fantasy genre. Skills are wasted if you use them while out of range. This is bad, due to the long coolodowns. There isn’t any target-of-target, so it’s combat is random and unpredictable, and not skillful.
I could go on, but there really is no point. SPvP will never radically change the way it should, since it’s devs have a different vision as to how it should be. It would take a total revamp of the combat system, which will never happen.
Champ trains in Queensdale made Tequatl irrelevant. Why coordinate for a long fight, when you can just follow a zerg for better loot?
More Scarlet updates!
Four of them to be exact
I wonder how long each one of them will be. A month or two each? ..sigh.
@Soa Cirri. Good post. A lot of people feel the same way, and many have quit because of the points you made.
I disagree with you on the dungeons part though. Groups are really easy and fast to form. As i was leveling, i would advertise for new players and it would literally fill up in less than a minute. The reason you see groups advertised for, “experienced 80s only”, is because they have a harder time getting people, but it’s the opposite for other groups. They form much quicker.
Wow, seriously? OP was infracted for that? Did the mod edit his post or something, because it doesn’t look like he wrote anything bad. Can’t even criticize gw2 without an infraction? That’s what it looks like.
Agreed. I’ve stopped running dungeons because of most of the points you made.
GW1 was far superior with grouping, as are most MMOs. GW2 needs to really step up and fix these issues. It should be top priority, since grouping and dungeons are some of the major features of the game.
NPCs should have unique armor sets. It makes it more immersive. Could you imagine if everyone could acquire the same armor as the major NPCs in this game? It would look ridiculous.
The most plausible theory so far is that Anet didn’t have enough time to polish everything and armor was far down their check list.
You might be right, but it still doesn’t negate the fact that it’s more immersive, when certain major NPCs, have unique armor. Royals, Knights, etc., had their armor customized. They were recognized and distinguished for their rank. Other MMOs do this, and it gives their major storyline characters more depth. Since most people use WoW, i’ll use that example. Just look at Sylvanas. She’s a unique NPC model, with unique armor. Imagine if she was wearing a tier 12 set, or whatever tier it is now. She would just look like every raider with that set.
(edited by nexxe.7081)

I agree, that it gets ridiculous having to spend so many gems, especially for people that want to change their look frequently. As much as people hate WoW, they have an in-game barbershop which is really nice, even though it’s very limited, and GW’s customization is much more advanced.
A-net should have one in-game for free, but with a limited set of features that are able to be changed. If someone wants a total makeover, then they could buy the one from the TP. I think it would be a nice balance between.
The current indicator needs to be changed. The one in beta was much more visible and clear. They should’ve kept it.
