After 8+ months of constructive feedback, on certain issues, we’re just realizing our suggestions are being ignored, for more important things, such as, randomized content via lotto-boxes & temporary content.

SPvP has only gotten 2 maps with no new gametype on the horizon. WvW finally got some goals though, which is a plus.
Dungeons are still chaotic with non-trinity gameplay.
Still no trait templates.
Still no LFG tool.
Dynamic Events aren’t so dynamic.
No new heart tasks. The world hasn’t changed in old zones, even though Living Story was supposed to change it.
Loot is still terrible and non-rewarding.
Crafting hasn’t changed.

Cash shop items are always added though. Where is the new gear at? I’m talking about new sets, not 1-piece gloves from Molten Facility, or backpacks from Holiday Events, etc.

Don’t take my word for it though, just go read the suggestions forum and go back pages, and you will find 90% of them ignored.

Why did the moderators change the title of this thread? It was specifically about the mechanics of the encounter. If the moderators want to do damage control, then they should start their own feedback thread, and sticky it instead. The manipulation of customers is very unprofessional. I would expect this from EA, but i guess Arena-Net wants to join that list too.

hey folks,

our patch notes jumped the gun a bit. Canach instance is NOT the ending of the living story. That will come next week. Stay tuned!

Okay thanks for confirming that Robert! I’ll stop looking for a instance that isn’t there yet :P

Give your web guys a kick up the kitten tho, shouldn’t really take this long to update the patch notes on the main site.

The instance is there, but it’s not the ending of the Southsun Cove’s living story.

Gimmicky quest item needed instead of using our own weapon skills.

I know it’s beating a dead horse, but it’s seriously needed.

Too many waypoints diminish the exploration of the world. By diminishing the amount of waypoints, traveling becomes relevant again. With more traveling, there is more incentive to participate in random Dynamic Events.

Waypoints should be used for relevant locations, such as dungeon entrances, zone entrances/exits, smaller outposts/hubs (trading posts, vendors, crafting stations, etc.).

The solution is to introduce mounts, whether it’s player-owned mounts, or NPC-driven ones. Either one would be fine, as long as it makes Tyria more immersive, because to be honest, it doesn’t feel immersive at all, due to all the instant teleportations everywhere.

The downed-state mechanic sounded good in theory, but it was implemented terribly. It just gives the player an impression that they did something wrong, especially in group encounters, when it’s impossible to avoid 1-shot hits.

A-net should just get rid of it, or find some other way to make it happen less and rare.

I am on High pop server, but the game still feels kinda empty in certain zones. There’s almost everyday someone in Southsun, but as for Orr or some 15-25 lvl zones, they feel kinda dead. Sure, you might see person or two doing an event once in a while, but most of the time you’re just going solo.

My guess is that bunch of people left the game, I know since I had a small guild with 80 people, and nowadays I’m the only person that logs on almost on daily basis.

Where did all the people go? What drove them away, did they quit or is it just me?

WoW’s new patch also came out on tuesday. Rift is going F2P too. People are waiting for the 28th for the 2nd part of Southsun Living Story.

This is what i loved about GW1. They actually had character models that represented various races, with asian and african features on faces during character customization. It’s actually more racist to exclude this from GW2, because by adding different skin tones to european facial features doesn’t represent the reality. This is what WoW and many other MMOs do, they let characters use a black or brown skin-tone that doesn’t match the standard european facial features, and it makes it look like “black face”, the way actors and early filmmakers used to portray them. Bring back diversity! It’s a good thing.

Here’s what a dev posted on this issue.

“I don’t know if we plan on changing the level of the omelette, but I do think that the achievement will stick around, so as soon as you do reach that level and munch on Owain’s omelette, you should be able to get it.
I can’t guarantee that Owain will always be selling omelettes in the future, but she does seem quite passionate about it, so I imagine they’ll be available for a while.”

They probably won’t change it, so just keep it in your bag until you hit 75.

A Title With Little Honor

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

Alright, maybe I’ll look like one of the few ‘whining’ about this. You can also choose to throw some insult at me. Though, I’m really just trying to have a debate about a possible issue; whether or not the Southsun Stalwart title has much less honor than it could’ve had.

Why? Because of how a lot of people used a mesmer portal to get to the islet.

I did the jumping puzzle; I know a lot of other people did it too. We can of course take pride in that and have that ‘yes, I did it!’ feeling.. but we can’t really use the Southsun Stalwart title to show it. Now, people, don’t say something ridiculous about boasting is bad or whatever. Titles are there to show your accomplishments; but anyone who did everything fairly can’t show any other accomplishment than those who used a portal.
(Edit: I’m also aware that the title is for completing 25 achievements; but I personally feel that it only requires 24 if you use the portals).

What do you guys ‘n girls think of this? Do you think using mesmer portals is cheating, or do you think it’s fair? What do you think Anet could’ve done differently?

I personally believe that the jumping puzzle (if anything) should’ve had a separate achievement and separate title, neither of which counted toward the ‘overall’ Southsun achievement/rewards. Unless there was an ‘ultimate’ achievement for completing all plus the puzzle.. (Edit: To clear up, the issue is not about ‘the jumping puzzle not having an achievement/etc. of its own, but that it can be ’done’ too easy and counts toward a larger achievement).

At very least, putting an object, required for an achievement, (which again is required for a reward and a title), at the end of a hard jumping puzzle, is only going to make people want to find an easier solution.

Edit: Having to include (for some reason that frankly isn’t very obvious to me, but maybe I didn’t make it clear enough) that this is meant as a discussion/debate about whether or not this is okay, and what you think about the issue. Is it an issue? Did you jump or use a portal, and what does it mean to you? (So on. That kind of questions..)

I used a portal. I don’t like jumping puzzles that are more frustrating than fun, and these timed jumps are not fun to me. I tried for over an hour or two. Do you suggest people keep trying even if they have no luck before the event ends?

Thanks for adding to the problem. It’s these reasons why Anet will never get rid of stupid things like RNG chests. Because people keep buying them up.

Go ahead and buy more. Don’t expect anything though. Don’t you love when they lock new content behind RNG (or lottery if you want to call it that)?

Excuse you, but you’re wrong. They add this new content to convince people to purchase it to help pay for the FREE CONTENT. The content that was added to the game in the way of new Dynamic Events, story lines, extended locations, free back-slot items, new mini-games, new WvW items, and more. All these things are free and paid for by the Gem Store items; because without that Gem Store we would not have monthly content updates.

As another to look at it, as an adult, understand that you’re still getting far more for a $1 spent in the Gem store on chests than you are getting in putting that $1 in a slot machine for a single roll with the outcome of 0.

P.S. I know I’m going to get slapped with “but why don’t they just sell the weapons directly on the gem store for a set price? I’d buy them that way.”. So, I’ll explain it as this: Part of being in an MMORPG is becoming a unique individual by way of look, style, and play. If everyone was able to obtain these weapons equally, nobody would look unique and they’d have no rarity to them. (i.e. see how everyone in L.A. is right now either wearing a flower or tentacles on their backs).

It’s an opinion. My opinion. It can’t be wrong. We are all entitled to our own.

And they don’t need to add RNG to the gem store to fund this “new free content” that we are getting. There is many other ways to make money than have someone spin the wheel with their cash and end up wasting it on nothing.

Sorry but I have no sympathy for anyone that believes this is good business practice towards customers. Imagine going into a grocery store to pick up some milk, and after you pay for it, they give you a tomato. And then tell you that whenever you buy something from them, you get a chance that you will get what you want. You wouldn’t go there again. You’d go somewhere else to spend your money. Cause you want what you paid for, not a chance at it. Now that grocery store just lost a customer and future money from that customer cause of those tactics. If they would of just sold them the item without any tricks or shams, that customer would go back to that grocery store and buy stuff again.

And sorry, but I don’t care to be a special snowflake when it comes to buying items I want. I could care less if everyone owns it. I am buying something because I want it and I like it. I’m not going to not buy it cause everyone else has one. It has nothing to do with being a “unique” individual. You buy things cause you like them, not because you want everyone to be jealous of what you have and they don’t have.

Pixels are not a social status symbol. You wear what you want cause you like it. Not because of what everyone else will think.

The problem with your logic is that when somone goes into a store to buy milk, they are expecting to get milk because the product package states that it contains milk. When somone is buying a RNG chest they are paying for the “chance” to get a unique item, expecting anything else just proves that they did not read the description of the item they were buying. If I went to the store to buy milk and the bottle stated “has a chance to contain milk” it would be up to me to make the informed decision to buy it, if it did not contain the milk I hoped for then tough, no ones fault but my own.

And you still support this? Why? They could be making more meaningful items without RNG. They could be selling multiple items to make up for the RNG factor. RNG is just greed, plain and simple. Offering assured content keeps more customers happy. This is why milk products (and other products) guarantee that they you should be getting what you want. It only makes sense.

What other products offer random items with a purchase? Lottery and gambling. Greed.

I will never support gems/gold/money on any RNG items, ever. They need to try to keep my time invested in their product, which i’m fine with, but when they ask for currency for a drop rate, then it’s going too far, cosmetic or not. It’s bad enough they want us to use our time with their product.

Mid level zones are less populated, which is to be expected, but this A-Net’s fault to a degree. Why focus on a living story & a new zone, when they could’ve been adding new dynamic events or meta-events to existing ones.

I’m not asking for them to go up. I’m stating that the economy is worthless because of this. It’s not always about making a profit, but trying to balance the economic state of the game. What’s the point of having all these items in the game if they are useless? That’s what i’m trying to get at.

If only players would sell them to a vendor and earn a few copper more, thus destroying them.

Or if players stop crafting so many, which they do to level their crafting past that range.

Or if players stop leveling so quickly because they don’t stop and update their armor and weapons as much since they will be superseded soon enough and at low levels unless you are twinking a new character with the bankroll of an old, in which case you simply buy higher grade stuff to begin with.

There are lots of reasons. And other threads that talk about it.

The GW2 economy, for low quality items, is broken because of this.
There is too much supply of items that nobody wants, so everyone floods the trading post with them, selling them for vendor price.
i.e. low-level quality greens and blues.

There isn’t demand for these items, because they are inferior to crafting, dungeon, & karma gear.

There are several solutions to this problem.
-Make these items worthwhile, by putting some kind of special stats on them; for example: XP and/or Karma stat increases, or, some other bonus stat to help with leveling.
-Make these items drop less by half or more than what it is currently. This will help new players and people making alts, by giving them a chance at making money, when they sell these on the trading post.
-Just scrap these items and make them white quality instead.

Here’s the way i see it. The team that worked on the Molten Alliance dungeon could have added new end-game Dynamic Events, and then the old ones like Jormag & Shatterer could be phased out with a story, telling us they have died, etc.

These events could last several months until the next Living Story. Instead, we get a new dungeon for a couple weeks, while still keeping the old end-game dragon events.

Why would you only want from that list to be the only way to changes the world it sounds like that what YOU want added in and not the community. They have added in new mob types new skins new events new dungeons new zones new boss fights new consumable items new story new main line heroes so ya the world is changing but your doing your best to turn a blind eye to it.

I wrote “etc.” at the bottom of the list. Stop turning a blind eye to that.
Yes, they added more content, such as new skins, karka, fractals.. but that’s besides the point. They could be adding more, making it permanent, otherwise the world feels like it’s never progressing. As it is now, the living story took way too long with no real benefit to the state of permanence of the existing world. I read that the refugees will be going to southsun cove, so that’s a plus, but it’s still taking resources away from the current content that could be getting upgraded or added to the game.

We’re trying something very unique and different with Gw2, and a lot of it plays back on the original ideas and concepts we had for the game all these years we’re trying to build towards and accomplish. It’s important to us to continue to try new things, looking at ways of evolving and innovating what a live game can be. In many cases, we’re learning right along with you guys how all of this is going to work for a live game, and constantly adjusting as we see the outcomes and find ways to innovate on what a true online world experience can be.

Living World is above all, the attempt to really give the sense the world is constantly changing and evolving. That there is events and content that change the world in the short term (like our current events) and events that can occur or change for the long term, which is what we’re slowly building towards in the future with Living World content.

Living world absolutely does not mean nothing but content that comes in and leaves again a few weeks later, and though so far that’s primarily what you’ve seen, it’s not all we will do in the future. The intent is living world provides us with a story and narrative experience, sort of like your favorite TV show, to constantly update and change the world and provide unique and exciting rewards on a regular basis.

We might have events that occur and came back again with a few modifications in the future. We may have events that occur and then find new homes permanently down the road. We may have bosses from a storyline that continue on forever as guild bounty hunts when a story completes. Living world also allows us the opportunity to upgrade and make parts of our existing game better permanently, a living world narrative could allow us to rebuild and change an existing zone or dungeon, or could destroy one entirely.

Our goal is to get to a point where on a regular basis, the world around you is not only changing in the short term through our normal event system, it’s changing and evolving permanently through our living world releases as well. What you’ve seen so far is primarily some tests and warmup stuff while we in the background organize the company to support this exciting future for our game, the future for living world is filled with endless possibilities.

Enjoy the ride!

I don’t get the feeling that the world is changing, instead i get stagnation of the current world. If you really wanted persistence, of an evolving world, then you wouldn’t waste time on temporary instances/dungeons, and instead, you should develop:

newer dragon bosses
newer dynamic events
newer heart tasks
newer mobs to fight
newer crafting professions
newer skills
newer races
newer guild activities
etc.

A feeling of, character & world progression, is needed.

Flame & Frost was fun. Flame & Frost was just too long, and it spanned over several months, while Southsun Cove has stagnated and feels abandoned.

Just leave the temporary content to special events & holidays, which can be re-used over the years, but to completely develop a whole storyline, characters, dungeons, etc., only to remove it, is just a waste of resources and time, and it gives off that feeling that more important content (the list above) is being ignored.

Why remove another dungeon?

This is a great temporary dungeon. If this were to be made permanent, it’ll be waaaay too easy.

Many current dungeons are easier than this one. Difficulty-wise it falls somewhere in the middle.

They are only easier because you’ve done them multiple times already. Try doing this dungeon 5x a day (for all 5 char slots) for the next few days, then tell me how bored you are of the now-cute-then-cheesy box dodge thingy.

Practice makes perfect. Do really expect them to release a dungeon every hour, or every day for you? because you find it too easy because you’ve done it repeatedly? I hope you answer no.

What was A-Net thinking? I mean seriously. Why waste time on this dungeon? I can understand making holiday events temporary, but i’m just baffled that they couldn’t add some kind of storyline to keep it permanent.

After defeating the dungeon, they could’ve added something like:
“The molten alliance has defeated, but their operations continue underground.”

I could understand if they were pumping out dungeons and content every month, but this has spanned for several months, and it’s development time is too slow to justify an ever-changing world.

…the ability to turn someone via perma buff into a tank or healer…would add serious depth without requiring a complete redesign…

Making a perma tank or perma healer doesn’t sound like adding depth. Sounds like making a character 1-dimensional.

Why do we insist on forcing the trinity on GW2? It was a part of a very popular MMORPG. But it doesn’t need to be a part of every MMORPG. Halo has sticky grenades and they are really fun….not every FPS needs em.

This game is making a go at a non-trinity combat style. It may need tweaking, but let’s not just be lazy and fall back on something that, in my opinion, is a tired mechanism that creates boring dungeon play. Let’s think of ways to promote the combat style that already exists but with less emphasis on the zerg.

The current design is sub-par. Trying out different styles like GW2 has is good, but sometimes you have to recognize that it’s not always best and needs to be tweaked to a better design philosophy.

I agree! The visual cues of enemies are hard to see, especially when there’s a zerg of people spamming all their skills.

I would also like to see the way cooldowns function. As it is now, if you hit a skill without a target, it’s a wasted cooldown. This is very bad. It should only trigger the cooldown during combat.

I was just thinking about this, and you know, I hardly ever run a dungeon WITH a warrior. Almost never. Oh, ocassionally here and there, but they’re the real exception to the rule. And then I thought about it….

Why not make dungeon groups and exclude warriors from them. Just post something on gw2lfg.com that looks like this.

Want to run SE Path 1…warriors need not apply!

First it would be funny to see how they like it, particularly if lots of people start doing it, but more, it would give everyone else a chance to get in their dungeon runs, without kowtowing to the efficiency slaves.

I think it’s a good move.

What about us new warriors that just want to have fun and experience the dungeon for the first time? Will you shun us because of the majority of players who use them for speed runs?

The failed aspect of F&F, must read.

The problem with Living Story? It spans way too long. All content can be finished in one day, then we need to wait 1 month for more? Sounds ridiculous.. By the time the next installment of Flame & Frost came, i was already disinterested in the story. I prefer large patch updates instead of these smaller ones that will have 1 month intervals..

Dont you dare!

It’s bad enough GW2 fails to keep me interested, but stuff like this will just make me stop playing forever. Tired of this Gem Shop RNG stuff.
